A quick find as it was uncovered. Tried to conceal it a little better. Always said I'd visit this place but it took a cache to get me there! Thanks TNLNSL

01-Mar-09
The Swaggies suggested we stop here for lunch. Not such a good idea as there was a reception on right near GZ but we managed to find a spare table nearby and loaded up from the smorgasboard. (I wish). I did put the hard word on the caterers as they walked by but they ignored me. Sad
No trouble finding the cache though.
Many thanks

9th find of the day and 1718th total find at 15:09.

Well the family are all doing their thing for New Year, so we're on our way to visit friends and to share a few good wines.

A very odd place for a cache. Hopefully the gardener won't bin this when he trims the grass around the tree.

There is plenty of log paper (for a while at least.)

Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks kiwideb for the cache.

~12:10 The whole family loved this cache and spent a considerable time exploring the grounds and playing on the train. I was fascinated by the torch room where the batteries were recharged. We also watched the movie in the visitors center - while there we signed the visitors log "Thanks For the Cache" - thanks again Kiwideb.

20-Dec-08
Found at 4pm on a nice sunny afternoon after a bit of Christmas shopping.
The cache has been uncovered again (those pesky lawnmowers!) so I covered it up with lots of stuff so the casual muggle doesn't find the cache.
It is nice to see some of our mining history preserved even though it may not have been the most environmentally friendly way to mine.
TNLN Thanks for the cache, Kiwideb.

29-Nov-08
Found @1140 Hrs nice spot. Nice easy find due to it being exposed for all to i think the gardner must have uncoverd if whilst trimming the grass around the tree it might be a good idea to find a new hiddy spot & the log book is very full.

Found this cache at 4:45pm whilst at Phillip Island for a vintage car rally. Had a bit of spare time so decided to do some caching.. This is a very interesting old mining village. We were unable to check it out fully as it closes at 5pm. Nice simple hide.

This took longer to find than it should have. The co-ordinates are spot on but at first I decided to look elsewhere. TFTC

Oh wow. What a wrong turn! Garmin on N95 was playing up, and we quickly found ourselves near Cape Paterson. Saw a couple in a station wagon moving, and they asked where we were headed, so Mrs. Smart-A55 says "Pakenham". What a classic look we got "ohhhhh, you're going the wrong way..."
Thanks for that!
We had no idea of the "typical kiwideb" hide was, so we spent a few minute, but realized we should have trusted the GZ we zeroed in the first place.
Thanks for the Cache!

24-Mar-08
Nice easy find... We had never been to this place before. It's very authentic. No-one was here on this Easter Monday.

10-Mar-08
This was my 2nd cache for the day and a lovely quiet one too! Local knowledge brought Blatherskite and myself right to the car park and I had a very quick find, with a magpie or 3 and the gardener nearby.
Nice hot day and it was easy to dry out soggy contents of container, including the sachets of Silica Gel.

The log book is in need of a repacement.

The 2nd find of the day after the nearby Historic Car Races.
This was a easy find in a lovely quiet location. Only a magpie or 3 and a garderner were present on a hot and windy day. Found cache container with soggy contents. Dried it and cleaned it out.
Left a mini torch and took the shark.

Log book requires replacing.

This cache was not found where I expected it to be but the coords kept telling me to look there so I did. I had no cache notes with me and was surpised by the maintenance entries in the logbook. Nice to see they respect the cache too. thanks kiwideb.

05-Jan-08
After the self guided tour we found GZ but as it was closing time the ranger returned as he was waiting to close the gates! When the mine site is upgraded for tourist operations in a few years is will be worth another visit. The coolest spot to escape the 37 deg heat was the air-conditioned theatrette for the 15 minute video.

05-Dec-07
I had read previous logs so had a pretty good idea where this one was. So it proved to be as the coords took me pretty close and the rest was logical. Interestingly, maintenance workers had found, logged, and replaced the cache about an hour before me! I fancy that the slashers will reveal this one regularly despite it being properly re-hidden.

Found @ 12:15. No muggles around today. Found while down doing preparation work as a volunteer on the Great Vic Bike Ride. Cache was quite wet inside. Dried it out the best I could. TNLNSL TFTC.

18-Oct-07
Found on my trip from the ACT to visit the folks living nearby.

Been here before, when the place was open...lets hope the State will let it open again, the mine tour was great.

No muggles, meant an easy find, although some weed spray seems to have made its way into the cache log... still usable though.

Thought it was going to be difficult as I approached GZ, due to the appearance that a structure had been removed, but with a bit of persistance the cache was found

15-Apr-07
Found at 11am after an initial hiccup. When 80 metres from the cache the batteries went flat. No 'AA's" at the gift shop so we had a bit of a look around for the cache anyway. Lots of hiding spots when you are guessing. So a trip back to the nearby local hardware store was required. A big shop and finding the batteries was harder than finding the cache. Rearmed the machine and found the cache with no problems. We had been within a metre without the batteries. TNLN. Thanks for the cache.

This being the first Kiwideb cache that Joe Possum had done the hint that this was a traditional Kiwideb location wasn't of much use. But a straight forward find any way.

Took giraffe and left a bear.

Thanks to Kiwideb for the cache and intro to the mining history.

I was a bit worried when I got to GZ and spotted the missing table, hoping the cache hadn't been attached to it. But all was well and found quickly. TNLNSL, cheers.

What a great location - I didn't know about the State Coal Mine before this, so was very pleasantly surprised. After finding the cache, I had a quick tour around the place, but would like to return and do a tour of the mine itself sometime.

I must admit that I have done several Kiwideb caches and I have never before found a kiwideb cache in this type of location. What's with the "in a traditional Kiwideb location.." crap? Smile
I was with Hell+Back and she had the GPS (me being too slack) and she was sure that this wasn't GZ. "The only place if this is right would be here, and that's unlikely" said Hell+Back as she stepped on the cache.
We sheepishly filled in the log and scarpered.
Didn't visit the center as they have not opened the mine back up yet.
Thanks, Robmc.

26-Feb-06
Found by The Swaggies after visiting friends @ 15:00 hrs. Always a pleasant stopover here. Not many people about today. GPS went haywire whilst approaching GZ so decided to sit on the grass for a break. Turned around and there it was. Cache was a little visible and the mower had cut very close to the site. Suggest it should be dug a little deeper.

TNLN

Thanks to kiwideb.

A nice find in one of those spots you wouldn't know about if it wasn't for geocaching. Pity the U/G tours are still on hold!

Brave (but effective) hide!

Found at 13:45 on what I can only call a day of taking the long way to Waratah bay and home again. Like Edmill this was a welcome cache after the coal miners daughter.
Thanks Deb for bining me to this spot.

18-Aug-05
Well after 'the coal miners daughter' this was a total breeze. Was very much exposed so replaced wiith a little cover. TNLN. After the cache had a wander around the museum and the area, its rather interesting; pity the tours aren't running.

28-Jul-05
Tenth of 16 Bass Coast caches for the day. As I approached the area I noticed a couple of likely kiwideb hiding places, but the GPSr pointed me to a less likely place. I checked it out, and found the cache there at 1415. It was partially exposed, but safe and sound. I covered it better before I left. The log book looks like it has been wet at some time, but it's completely dry now. I didn't' have anything small enough, so I made no exchange. Coordinates were spot on. [^] Thanks to kiwideb for the cache, and a big thanks to Chookies for replacing the cache.

03-Jul-05
I had looked for this one on the day after our last AWG walk but the GZ gave me horrible déjà vu of "A Diamond in the Ruff". 15-20 minutes of searching on 13 June in some likely, but incorrect, spots was enough and I moved on. Alsume found this one later that day and advised me as to its location, which was a lot more accurately located than the aforementioned cache (I did tell them where "A Diamond in the Ruff" was after all, which saved them the several hours of heartache I suffered Wink).

With the cousins in tow and the vital info in hand, we walked straight to the cache and were logging it at 15:45.

TNLN, although The Matriarch and mischievous monkey TBs dropped in for a quick look.

Thanks for the trip here kiwideb, one at which the "local" cousins hadn't even been to.

(Special thanks too to Alsume for the location info.)

Found at 12.50pm.
An interesting historical site, we spent 2 hrs looking around.
We then had a picnic lunch and found the cache nearby.
We cannot imagine what life was like underground for the miners.

Thanks

Found at 3:30pm. Made our way to GZ where we scratched our heads for a while, checking the various options for a hide. Re-reading the other logs closely had the well-hidden cache in hand shortly after.

The cache was found easily by the youngest member of the Coffee Clan.

Had a look but rain was starting so it wasn't long. I have a bit of a bad fealing however. Will speak to Deb.

24-Apr-05
We arrived with just enough time for a simple cache (as this one is) before the Mine gates close. At GZ there were a few possibilities but the GPSr didn't seem able to tell us which way to go. When it finally settled down there was only one possible location but we couldn't find the cache there. We searched everywhere else and then returned to the first spot. Finally, after close examination, we found it at 4:00pm. We still don't know why we had so much trouble!! Thanks Kiwideb for the "simple" cache. We took a donkey and left a giraffe.

Just a note to let all know this cache is back on line. Per Chookies it is all ok now. Thanks to the chookies.

05-Mar-05
Back again after visiting Inverloch for a couple of days. The cache container was severely cracked with part of the lid missing. We have replaced the cache container with a brand new one (identical type). The log book was still useable & recordable, so have left it in-situ. We also placed a pen in the cache as it did not have one!
The cache is still there, & now well, so there is no need for this cache to be archived!
Please return cache snugly to avoid future damage.

03-Mar-05
Found by the rooster. Container was cracked severely (probably a certain motorized gardening impliment to blame). Contents wrapped in plastic but dampened.
TNLN Thanks Kiwideb

After having a very succesful trip over to Phillip Island we headed to Wontaggi for a BBQ lunch in town.

After lunch we headed out to this cache but were unable to locate any sign of it. Sad

Still, the younger members of the team had fun rolling down the hill.

Thanks anyway Kiwideb

Cache has gone to caching heaven so will take it off line. Thanks to those that have found it and I will check it out in 2 weeks.

29-Dec-04
Wow.....just found some very old cache notes, and we never logged some finds from our xmas break. We fought our way through the flies guarding the cache and found it quickly. Didn't swap anything, but bagged it up as the lid was broken.

26-Dec-04
Half a mine! This is also becoming half a cache. We will try and put it in a clip lock bag when we return in the next few days, but it is exposed to the elements and there is a colony of slaters in residence. The log book has most of the pages stuck together. We walked upto this one after checking just one other spot, so we were pleased that the muggles who were having a picnic just a few metres away didn’t get a chance to wonder what we were doing. tn/ln Thanks kiwideb. Ps where is the 4th cache in the series?

14-Dec-04
I was hoping this cache would last till I come down in January. Will be here to replace on January the 23rd. Sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks for the comments.

4.35PM With team rabbitto. When we drove in my first words were, hmm what time does this place close. It was 4.32PM and the gates were open so we went in for a snoop. The Ranger was out and was ready to close the gate, After talking to the lady she knew all about the cache and where it was, so D from team rabbitto and I hopped out for the find while the other drove out because she was shutting the gate. The GPSr was heading us both into an open area, but we searched in some nearby bushes. We all had to watch out step because some sick cows have been pooping in the bushes. After a while we had no luck, so we follwed the Gps again which headed in the right direction. I spotted the hiding spot quickly and soon had cahce in hand. The cache is quite wet and has part of the lid borken off. Seems to have been hit by a mower, lucky it wasn't sucked up. We had no bags with us, so I was forced to put the cache back as is. Just hope it doesn't rain or get too wet. No swaps for today, Thanks from M.B and S.M

11-Dec-04
Found at 4:35pm. Our fourth stop on our tour of the Phillip Island / Wonthaggi area in company with xfking and S.M. A bit of a comedy of events for us on this one. Firstly we arrived just on closing and the ranger was just in to check the area and close the gate. She came over to talk to us and we tried to buy some time by admitting we were geocaching. She knew all about the cache and its location and allowed us to stay to search but S still had to drive the car out the gate to wait for us there. Xfking and I began the search and had to be careful as a herd of cows had also recently frequented the area and all really needed more fibre in their diet Wink.

We originally searched the wrong area as the nearest point to GZ had been recently mown and there was not much space to hide in there. As it turned out, it was indeed there with just enough hiding space left for it. On the down side, we believe that has had another run in with a mower since the finder noticed the cracked lid a while back as there is now a full 10% of the lid completely missing and there is no protection for the contents. As the car was now way back out the gate we had no access to bags to put the entire cache into. We toyed with removing it to return to you but ended up leaving it there and hopefully will last till repaired.

Thanks Kiwideb from D & S B-A. Took Nothing Left Nothing.

30-Nov-04
Interesting place but we couldn't stay long to fully investigate it. The logbook and contents were a little damp due to the broken lid but still quite serviceable. TNLN. Thanks. Greg and Bev

Found quite easily, took alien, left toy soldier.
Thanks

17-Oct-04
Found 12:00, spotted this one very quickly as the grass in which it had been hiding had been recently mown. The cache is a little worse for it’s close encounter with the mower, but still essentially intact (just a chip out of the lid, so it is no longer water tight Sad )

Took octopus and left alien, thanks KiwiDeb.

11-Sep-04
Found at 3:15 pm after a lovely lunch in Wonthaggi. We've been here before and done the tour, very interesting stuff. Searched for awhile in the wrong place, were about to give up when I just had one last look 'over there'. Took piggy, left horsey Smile Freezing our butts off on the way to our next cache Smile Thanks Kiwideb!

17-Jul-04
Found in the company of Alan-san, while Kiwideb was off elsewhere. Alan-san actually found it, while I was searching in a nearby area. I took a Goose and left a Hermit Crab.

Thanks, Kiwideb, for the cache and taking us down there.

17-Jul-04
I found this one at 12:15pm, just ahead of Muzza - it also great that Kiwideb came along to join us moments later. Swapped a basketball out for a dog. Thanks Kiwideb! (The friend with all the friends in all the right places)

Found by Mary & David at 1140. Very civilised surroundings. Particularly appreciated the native plantings. Happy to see the rain had stopped, but everyone else was still indoors. Took soldier, left octopus. Our thanks to Kiwideb.

Our first find for the day, after deciding this morning that a day's caching was a better option than going to work and getting the boss's okay, off we went.
We haven't been here before but had time restraint's and more caches to find so didn't visit the attraction. It will be a good place to return to though.
A nice easy find with no-one around
Took Aeroplane
Left Bouncy Ball
Thanks Kiwideb for an enjoyable start to our day off
