CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Once again I'm glad there are no snakes in NZ. Spent lots of time stomping around clearing long grass so we could look under the rocks. Eventually spotted it.Thanks Bear_Left and happy caching
Parked up and trudged through waist high vines and grass to look under numerous rocks to no avail. Thought what a shame not to find and headed back to the cachemobile. Knocked my shin on something hard..yet another rock hiding in the undergrowth and had a look and yay! a find! Worth the trip out tftc Bear Left. have a fave
We're currently travelling New Zealand in search of adventures. We're exploring the South Island.
13 March 2023 - Cache Number 2925
Needed this cache to fill a spot on our hidden month grid. Took a bit of searching through the foliage, but that was to be expected considering it hadn't been found in over a year! The cache is in remarkably good condition. TFTC

The hole area was so deserted that it felt like everyone else had disappeared without a trace!! They left the cache intact TFTC!!
Very cute cache
Thanks for bringing me here. No time for a visit to the hanging rock but will be back another day.
Mission today apart from getting home is too find some older caches for my months placed grid. 14 hrs. Really enjoyed

Nice wee place. And the rock wall next to the cache is hanging a bit too!
Found after interrogating several big rocks.
And on our way out back to Pleasant Point, we also checked out the real deal - The Hanging rock itself.
Kia ora! Paldies!

#18239. It's been a looooonngggg time since I found a Bear_Left cache, and it was good to find another today. We signed the replacement log (which is in good shape) and took away the manky original one (will see if we can dry it out properly). TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day one of a 4 day trip down south to Oamaru, a consolation holiday for us, as in a COVID-19 free world, we would currently be in Seattle .
I was really excited to seen that our planned route took us past an unfound Bear_Left cache, so this was on out "must find" list. Cache was quickly found - loved the picnic basket - and we signed the replacement log. Thought the previous log from Feb was a bit harsh, I thought this was well worth a drive. TFTC.

Gross, the cache is wet and dirty. The log was signed with difficulty. I found it but not sure if it was worth the drive out here.
This was our target cache for today as it was a date we had not yet claimed on our calendar. Arrived and GPS was pointing 40m+ through a fence. We decided it wasn't that far away so hunted where we thought it would be. Took a while to decipher the hint as well but everything finally came together - GPS came down to a reasonable distance, I worked out what the hint meant and not long after Andy found the cache. Both logs books were wet and slimy. It would be no use adding yet more paper to get wet so I grabbed a pill bottle from the car and added a new log book inside a plastic bag to it. This was then dropped into the cache container. Should keep reasonably dry now we hope. tftc
Found it, unfortunately the log book is soaking even though a relatively new book.it seemed a dry place too.
Beautiful afternoon for a country geo drive thanks for bringing us here

Picnic is somewhat soggy.
By the bridge is some original Maori rock art. Above modern graffiti is a bat. Worth a wander.

Have always been intrigued by the story of the Picnic at Hanging Rock. We had already had our picnic but enjoyed the visit to the NZ version. Sorry to report the container is sodden in its little basket. We managed to log in but the logbook is very wet.
Out and about on the bike, finding random caches. A few camping in the camping grounds, and there is water in the river, a great spot to be. Soon had cache in hand after a bit of scrambling. TFTC!
took a bit of rooting around, but got it eventually.....TFTC
Hanging Rock was the site of family picnics, swimming and fishing many years ago.

TFTC! Left swag, took swag.
Will come back in summertime for a picnic over the road.

Nice quick find while out on a Sunday drive and a spot of caching along the way. Interesting rock formations. TFTC.
I have been in New Zealand alone 25 years ago for climbing here in this valley with some friends.
This time i visited down under again with my wife.
We also visited our daughters which were here for 7 months for work and travel.
On our way north, we took a rest at the hanging rocks and found the box in his hidden place.
Thank you very much for this cache and many greetings from Germany.

Haha. Very nice. Took a bit but found eventually. Had the locals in the paddock wondering what I was up to. Tftc.
Hope it counts to find the cache without the help of the GPS (failed to load on to GPS) but knew there was a cache at "HangingRock", so used logic. Didn't take too long either!
Nice hide and the cows watched me as I searched and retrieved the cache is that counted as being muggled ?? TFTC
After going down one road and having to turn back due to a downed tree I finally made it here!
Decided on a day away from the house today and headed inland for some geocaching.
This was number 3 for the day.

heading to "some where, from over there"i stumbled upon this cache just the way i like to when driving in the country... chosen by the randomization of my route... was a bit nervous for all the hay fever grass nicely guarding gz, but managed to sneak in with out to much upset and no sneezing to find a box that seems to have appeared from another time... how odd...
To find this cache was today's goal - I particularly wanted it to fill a statistical hole (NZ months placed) but I was also intrigued to visit Hanging Rock.
I set out after Kiwi Nomad's Ashburton event and have roamed around S Canty is an almost random fashion - caching isn't really about finding the quickest/ most direct route, is it!
Interesting geology and a lovely spot.
Thanks, Bear Left - loved the container. Definitely a favourite from me.

An oldy and a goody!! Loved the container. Glad it wasn't under the hanging part, it was full of water. Thanks.
What a great place for a picnic. Yorkshire P, RogoBaby and I had bought some locally made yoghurt from Geraldine which was delicious. On the way to GZ we stopped to look at an historic lime kiln and picked some blackberries. At Hanging Rock we walked over the bridge for a great view of the hanging rock itself. We particularly liked the cache container. Beautiful area. After finding the cache we went on to look at the local Maori cave drawings. We were all fascinated by the Taniwha.
Thanks for the wonderful cache.

We got this one on the way out to the field to survey rock art with a friend. Great little place. Shame about all the graffiti. Nice container. TFTC!
Good to find one of the older caches in such a good condition Bear_Left certainly left some traces in New Zealand! TFTC
Glad we found it just to see the Fabulous Cache. We had a Picnic Lunch, over the Road,as it was a nice warm day,at 20 degrees not too bad for May.We have always said we must come in there and see the Rock,so thanks for bringing us here at long last.TFTC
An enjoyable drive through unexplored countryside after heavy rain. Loved the cache. TFTC
I am down this way for work, documenting some of the rock art sites, so it was good to get this cache. Shame about the damage to the nearby site, luckily most of the other sites in the area are well hidden. Thanks for this one.
It didn't really need it but a maintenance visit was a good chance to swing by and reminisce...
Added a new logbook for when the current one fills up and marvelled at the good condition of the elderly container!

This has got to win the award for most original and imaginative cache container that I have seen by a country mile. Top marks “Bear Left” TFTC
We had our picnic there and lived to tell the tale! Love the cache container - so appropriate!
Wasn't sure what I was going to find here. Went over the side thinking, honey container? Nice cache. I had expected it to be in the picnic area and of course there was someone parked up there, but lo, the co-ords pointed elsewhere, out of the muggles view TNLN TFTC SL
TFTC. A great story and a surprising hide made this a favourite for me. It has lasted well for a cache placed in 2004.
I had wanted the opportunity to seek this one out for quite a while. Today I got to ground zero and what a great container!. I had read of the actual event that this cache alludes to and the high cliffs in ths area as well as the area name makes this so appropriate.
Thanks

last year we drove all through here with the caravan on and GPS off. This time, some revisits, c/van off (near main rd) and gps on.
Way cool camo. A quick easy driveby find. Thanks for making us stop in the late mornings sunshine. To cool for school.
Not quite as impressive as the rock in the movie of the same name and the hunt was not so urgent now as then but I was happy to find the prize. Took a bit of wandering back and forth but finally got the GPS to read 0. TFTC
VERY cool container and hide. Touring south canterbury looking at rocks and picnicing (of course). TFTC SL (+ small plastic tiki)
Out on the back roads of Canterbury today with Les_Chercheurs enjoy the great views and having loads of fun caching .
TFTH Happy Cachin!!!

Took a trip from Canada to New Zealand to visit my brother and nephew over Christmas. Did some caching and was taken to some pretty amazing places. Thanks for the cache!
Found on a cold drizzly day, what a great container for the cache, picked up a TB, enjoyed finding this with Oliver52. TFTC
Cold, wet but excellant find, got a TB, had a few laughs with annette bray while doin this one
Dropped in 2 TB that we brought back from Rarotonga but haven't got the tracking numbers, opps.
[Yay! we beat…] Yogi... [to it, so we must be…] smaaarter than the average bear! [What a fantastic cache container. Never seen anything like this before. Our travel bug simply had to sit in it for a photo shoot! It was getting late and after hiding the cache, it was time to…] exit stage left! [Thanks Bear_Left for the picnic!
Cool cache container! PB found a broken cellphone here that still just turned on. We took the Gingerbread man GC. Seemed appropriate for near to Christmas. Interesting to read about the bats on the info panel in the rest area across the road. Annie would like to see them, but I guess we would have to be here at dark time. Perhaps another trip. TFTC
Found with YuGeo4, was really surprised when YuGeo4 came up with the cache, pity I had already eaten my fill, may come back for a picnic, TFTC TNLNSL (1417)

Hmm, we could have done with a feed at this point, just spent the day climbing at Hanging Rock and are exhausted.
Cheers.
