WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 47 - Katanning Day. The morning was spent having a break while the car was getting serviced, and unlike in Canberra, cleaned. When I collected it after lunch not only was there nothing wrong, it was shiny again. Having been in Katanning this trip already, I have done all the close into town caches, so I did a few a bit further away. A lovely wetlands walk and a cemetery. Then another reserve near a sadly mostly empty dam. I was back at the van in time to do todays logging today. Off to Bunbury tomorrow. After doing the final Lab stage here, I headed off for a walk around the boardwalk and wetlands. The second tag took a bit of finding and I found the cache before finding the tag at the final area. All in a great time and there were no mozzies today, but it is pretty cold. Thanks for the cache Phil & Sigrid Justrackin47660.1 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2009 Australia Wombat Gold 2 A#164**Albida**
Well that was a great little walk until the final, then the mozzies caught us out! We found the cache no problem here today. TFTC
Enjoyed the walk until we found it and had to retrieve the cache quickly, hally4 had to very quickly write in the log while I was busily trying to get rid of all the billions of mosquitoes we replaced the cache quickly and ran to the car!! Havent run since 2017 when we completed the Berlin Marathon so as you can imagine there was a fair amount of huffing and puffing We loved this find but recommend to anyone doing it to listen to the instructions and apply insect repellent before embarking on this little adventure On another note CONGRATULATIONS to hally4 for reaching 1700 caches! Woohoo
2nd time here a better result this time great multi enjoyed the challenge lucky we had mozzy repellent for overly friendly insects
Pulled up to do the lab cache and chuckled at the state of the boardwalk, deciding promptly we would not be walking on that.
Then checked for geocaches and jumped at the chance to do a multi. Made it to wp1 avoiding the boardwalk, and inputting wp2. Ah stuff it... onto the bridge we go. Wp2 was found after widening our search a little, the glasses in the tree and eye level hint might have thrown us a bit, wp3 was easy as we now knew exactly what to look for. The boardwalk looked worse than ever but felt surprisingly stable.
Wp4 was input and after a short search we reread the description, and made an easy find with the new information. Loved this multi, will give it a fp and we dropped a tb to continue its journey. Tftc

Out and about again, nice early start and didn’t want to get out of the warm bed. Covered a lot of km as haven’t been to some areas ever, and some not in a very long time. Cleaned up a fair few today after getting back not long before the Caching event.
Found a variety of hides and in different areas which made for a nice day. Generally quick finds today
Thanks to all the CO’s for the hides I found.

Swiss geocachers on a journey through Western Australia.
Today we went from Katanning to Gnowangerup. First we looked for caches in Katanning before we went to the multi at the Police Pool Nature Reseve. There we liked the multi through the landscape very much. Further along the Great Southern Highway we also found all the caches targeted. So we reached Gnowangerup via the Horsepower Highway. Here, too, there were still finds. Many thanks to the owners for setting the caches.

Followed the path into GZ, swatted away plenty of mozzies and found the cache after looking in the obvious spot.

Spending a couple of nights at Lake Norring for BYO Marshmallows 6 ([GC9ZMC3](https://coord.info/GC9ZMC3)). Hit the road with AlliedOz, Cirrus_WA, Geotrakka, Kyzabra, rokadz, SirFancy & The Fitzys in three cars picking up a few labs and whatever else we fancied in the area. Signed the logs as M6C (Marshmallows 6 Crew).
Lots of eyes took a while to find this one, rokadz was the one to actually lay first hands on it.
Phil & Sigrid Justrackin I found your cache at 9:28am, this was the 9th of 45 finds for me today and brings my total find count to 7625. The cache was in good order and I replaced it as found.

Today the geocaching mission for TaurusSix and I was to try and obtain the FTF that we noticed came out in Katanning yesterday. We kept an eye on the post last evening and when we still noted it had not been found first thing this morning we decided to undertake the just over two hour drive to get to gz. The drive itself was very pleasant just after sunrise. Not that there was much of a sunrise because it is quite an overcast and showery day. Pleasantly cool too which is nice for geocaching. Once in Katanning and achieving the first to find we set about to find many of the other caches in the Katanning area.
This is our fourth cache of the day and what an interesting cache it was. Firstly we parked up in the wrong spot and entered the boardwalk via a little bush bash. The Boardwalk itself has seen better days but nonetheless is definitely fascinating . We obtained all clues and information before heading to final coordinated to collect the cache. There were certainly many over friendly ants to be weary of while doing the circuit. TFTC and bring us to an area that we would never have otherwise come to. TFTC

Found it. TFTC Phil & Sigrid Justrackin. Great walk round this area gathering the waypoints. Got the final and eventually found it. Replaced as found. I knew about this place called Police Pools when I lived in Katanning as a tax deduction. Never had the pleasure to come here, possibly because the money our family had was very little. But as kids did in those days, we made the best of what we had.
A rather pleasant walk this morning through the wetlands.
Thanks for the cache Phil & Sigrid Justrackin.

Heads off after lunch for this one, which was a bit silly given that it was a pretty warm day. Spent a bit of time looking for WP2. W decided it was missing but continued on the walk using our geocaching sense to locate WP3. Surprisingly found this pretty easily but had trouble again at WP 4 until we re-read and worked backwards. In the end we found the cache. Owner may like to check way points. Cache container is in good condition. Although bit warm today, this spot would make a lovely place to visit on cooler days. TFTC
Logging this as a find after making contact with the cache owners. Thanks Phil & Sigrid Justrackin.
All was going well till the last (4th) waypoint. From that point on it got super confusing. With the description containing changes/alterations and some people in the logs giving alternative GPS co-ords we didn't know which w asy was up. All we knew was that the 4th waypoint/cache wasn't where is was supposed to be (we especially didn't like the fact we were tromping aimlessly in snake country)..We walked the 24mts SE and found remnants of a container, but is it/was it the cache? Who knows. Such a shame; we were so enjoying this place, up until things got complicated!
An early morning wake up to make it to Albany for a 9am start with Richlink Mcfonz. Barnzry12 told me about his plans the night B4 and soon we were on our way. A great day out and a few hundred KM’s added to the car.

Today I made my way down from near Narembeen to Katanning, visiting some old haunts and reliving some memories from when I used to live and work in this area 30 years ago!
I also took the opportunity to pick up a couple of caches in each of the LGAs I passed through.
I enjoyed this multi, my final cache for the day, completed in the peace and quiet of the late afternoon. All but the last of the well constructed waypoint tags were discovered reasonably easily. I never did find the last one though, but that didn’t matter anyway with the changes that had been made.
Thanks Phil & Sigrid Justrackin for the cache.

Thanks for this great multi! Really enjoyed this one and the surroundings were amazing! Have a favourite!
Headed down south for 3 days with Barnzy12. The weather wasnt the best, im not sure how may times we got drenched with rain. Found most of the caches that we went down there to find were found without issues with a few that took a bit of searching.
We met up with richlink and did the grove park series and also found the samuel de kock cache with them. Im very glad there was 5 of us doing the grove park caches as we struggled to find some of those caches. It was really hard in some spots to fight your way through the vegetation with the rain coming down and then we had to search for a preform tube somewhere on the ground. Number 3 must have taken at least 45 minutes to find. We were very happy once we had completed that series of caches.
We definately enjoyed finding all the roymerc caches and its lucky i have lots of fav points to hand out as they were very worthy of them. All in all a good weekend of caching and a big thanks to all the CO,S for placing these caches for us and everyone else to find.

Found this on a three day expedition to Albany and surrounds in convoy with the ooh yeh team. Managed to team up with Richlink aswell for a number of caches around these parts that they hadn’t done.
A great long weekend and thanks to the locals for their caches. I look forward to finding more at the upcoming WAGB event in Albany.

Have replaced Cache container and logbook and checked all the coordinates.
Maybe the last tag could be out by 000.001 minutes on lat and lon's but all GPS's take a while to settle?
There has been only been a couple not found logs so I believe all is good.
The comment about the cache site being overgrown is incorrect!

Nope, couldn't find it. Couldn't find the back stump, or any of the tags. Spend too long looking.
We are so pleased to add our name to this log because we thought that it sounded a bit confusing. We need not have worried I saw the container from 35m away. I wonder when these boardwalks were built and if they ever got much use. TFTC Sigrid Justrackin
Touring the Great Southern using Geocachiing as our guide.
We headed out today from Kojonup and did a massive loop of some 420km. We saw some great historic locations, old schools, old halls, so much information shared with us today through Geocaching. We often say WA doesnt have the history of other States but boy you did us proud today.
Mr F found wpt 4 to be approx 15mt out to where the gps led him. so try reducing wpt4 sth by .005 and reducing the east by .015 then heading as per the CO instructions 20mt SE. Cache in good order.

Couldn't find fourth tag but 20m SE of bridge is overgrown and too hard to get to anyway
Out and about on a two day road trip through parts of the Great Southern with grandma allinaday. We visited many interesting spots and saw lots of interesting things. We also found many great caches, so TFTC and the fun we had searching for them. We enjoyed the board walk and it was a nice spot to play around for a while in the late afternoon.
Enjoyed our walk along the boardwalk to the various waypoints along the way. Very dry at this time of the year and a bit smelly too. We could not find waypoint 4 but by adding the 20 metres from the bridge soon found the well hidden cache container. Container lid is cracked, so not entirely waterproof anymore. TFTC and for bringing us to this interesting place.
Finally. We have had our exercise for the day and the mosses trying to carry us away if we stopped for too long. Thanks for our outing
pug002 found it 3/4/2016 on our trip geocaching TFTC Phil & Sigrid Jusstrackin. Great no muggles around boy why would there be we got eaten alive by mozzies. Should have been out of there in no time but geohubby didn't listen to me when I said co-ords are20 mtres from the 4th tag. But we got there and gave the mozzies a feed
Day three of our Australia Day Geocaching Long Long-Weekend saw us traveling from Katanning through Woodanilling to Wagin, Dumbleyung and back to Katanning again caching along the way... naturally.
This cache has been on our to do list for such a long time and at last we can tick it off, thanks for the cache Phil & Sigrid Justrackin, we had no problems here.

Staying in Katanning for the weekend and saw that there was lots of caches here. Had a great variety but some DNFs due to bad co-ords but besides that it was a good day.
Such a great walk and adventure around the lake, and a better break from all the micros in town.

Down in the Great Southern area for another caching foray. Our intentions had been to head over to Esperance and Cape Le Grande, but stars just weren't properly aligned, and the weather was looking pretty dismal too, so shelved that plan for the time being. Oh well, still lots of great caching to be done without venturing quite so far from home base. Headed northwards today, with Katanning on the radar, along with others along the way, including this one. After a bit of "to and fro"ing, I eventually earned my smiley. Interesting location going on the information boards nearby. Thanks Phil & Sigrid Justrackin
Went geo caching with Peeted today. Mrs Peeted found this one... not where the gps told us though.....Great area. TFTC
Found this cache with Happyjacks55. Had no trouble locating the clues but had difficulty locating the cache based on the information given. We looked 20 metres SE of the location given by the last tag, but upon reviewing the info perhaps the cache location is 20 metres SE from the actual tag. That's about where we found it anyway.
All in all the find made it worthwhile and a fun cache to find in what would be a great location at the right time of year. Gets a favourite from us.

We enjoyed the walk and all 4 stages were found easily. We spent over an hour to find the final cache but no joy. The last instructions did not work for us and we searched up to + and - 15 meters of the latest instructions as well as the information from the hint but no luck. Wonder if it is still there. Some clearer instructions would do the cache good as it is a nice boardwalk although a bit too wet today probably.
We enjoyed the walk and had no trouble locating the pags and the final cache - although for us it was about 15m out. TFTC
Beautiful place with lots of frogs and birds. The cache was slightly away from where it should have been, but found it eventually.
Come back since 24/11/2007. Loves this area - enjoyed myself and finally found the container approx 10 mts away... with Kindigo. No swap. Signed the log. Thanks Phil & Sigrid Justrackin.
5.15pm. Hubby was quick to give up on this one but the geokiddies persevered and we were soon on the right track. Nice location. T: wristband L: maze puzzle TFTC
Nice walk through the wetlands. Most WP out by about 6 metres but the last one was out by about 9 metres, but we still found it. Thanks to stus*crew for clearing all the cobwebs for us. SL TNLN TFTC
this one had us covered in cobwebs and a bit worn out by the end as it was a bit warm today
Nat & I found the first three WP's easily enough (no. 2 had us searching for a bit). WP 4 was more of a challenge, as others have said. Had to leave after trying to find WP4 for a while: It was getting late and I was hungry.
Went back this evening with Mojo and found WP4 (in the dark - GPS out by a few metres). GZ was also a little tricky to find in the dark....(out by about the same amount as WP4) but we got there in the end.
Great spot for a cache... if you don't mind being eaten alive by mozzies.
After all that, forgot to take something to swap!

As mentioned by others, the container is on its last legs amd needs to be replaced before the wet weather sets in.
Found on an over cast Australia day while trying out my new paperless caching system. This was my second attempt. I dont know why I didnt see it the first time
This another spot I keep meaning to visit and havent. So thanks for getting me out to it. Once the first tag was found all went well until tag 4. It took a bit of finding as the co-ordinates appear to be off a little. Fortunately the only "visitor" while looking for tag 4 was a small lizard!! TNLN SL TFTH. The container is looking a little brittle and may need replacing before the rains come.
Nice spot I didn't know about. Found some of the co-ord a bit out so I used the error I had with the waypoints to locate the GZ. All good. TFTC
We had to walk through some very long grass to get to the different waypoints however did not see anything slithering through so that was good. The coords at the bridge we thought were about 10m out so were glad for the hint also the coords for the cache we thought were about 10m out, however we found it which was the main thing. TNLN. Thanks Phil & Sigrid Justrackin
Found it the day after Cruznoz had a go. Looking at where you had been walking you werent too far rfom the cache. Nice area apart from the mozzies.

I found the 4 tags ok, but GZ just would not put it's hand up. The grass in the area is very long and may be the reson for my failure
Thank you Phil and Sigrid. Had a ball doing this multi. The invasive weeds are well over knee height making for wet walking, but not with wellies. Lots of birds so early in the morning. The last waypoint nearly had me stumped. The local maitenance crew cleaning out the bins were cleverly hidden behind trees as the search was continued. Gave me time to think about the history of the place. Once found the cache itself was easy as there were not many places to hide such a sized container, though the weeds made a great screen!!!! Thanks for bringing me to this lovely spot just on the edge of town. TFTC
The last of our caches on the way home from a lovely few days in York. A well thought out multi and takes you to a beautiful wetlands that has obviously had a lot of work go into it. Enjoyed the wander around the wetlands and found all the WP’s easily apart from WP2. GPS was out by quite a few metres at this one.
Oh... it is a multi. Will take better notes next time before we leave home. Didn't notice any tags but we weren't looking for them either.

I pulled the spray jacket out of the backpack, dusted off the moths, and headed off through the wetlands. An interesting walk through a great location, and I made a fairly easy GAFF 1 find at 11:15 AM.
My find No 1181 and 25th of 81 for the trip, LCC, TNLNSL, dropped my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC in for a visit before grabbing it back again.

1315hrs - Loved this sweet and very clever multi round the nature reserve. Really appreciated teh work that has gone into it and I hope it gets more visits soon. The final tag and box were a few metres out according to my Etrex, but the hide was a 'Classic English' hide and I spotted it straight away. Many Thanks.
Found all 4 tags with relative ease, but could not find cache.
There were some likely spots, but no luck. Will have to watch this one to see if some one else finds it! Then we'll go back for another go!
Great spot for a cache, with interesting history.

This was our 3rd for the afternoon so we were a little late in the day and only got half way through before we decided it was too dark and would come back the next day. On our return we headed for our last point and carried on. We had so much fun doing this one, the little tags were a challenge in themselves.

This wasn't a planned find on this trip, as I tend to avoid multis on road trips, but as my hunt for Piesse Dam was thwarted I went for this one instead.
Once I released one can get off the walkways it was a nice easy walk and find followed by lunch.
TNLNSL. Cache is good condition. Thanks for the hunt.

The Katanning Bushrangers have only just found out about the geocaching hunts. As we are out at twonkwillingup often with putting up bird boxes, we thought we would have a go at the hunt that you have made. The bushrangers loved finding all the waypoints and finding the logbook at the end. We will be trying your other caches soon and then we might try to make our own. Thanks for the hunt.

Just a quick re-visit to drop off "The Bell" Travel Bug did this at 9pm tonight must be like the first night of winter it's like 8°C outside, it's still March and it's incredibly cool!... Hmm hopefully somebody will keep this little fella traveling around the country for a while rather than return straight back to the city....
