Found it! We had arrived. The gate to the path was before us. Intrepid (MTB) warriors warned against the Path, as imminent death may await those who proceed. Despite their warnings our imperative drove us forward. Passing through the gate, I could see the path less trodden, whilst overgrown and almost hidden, it was the safest. At intervals the path was crisscrossed with misleading and false trails where black riders could quickly appear and vanquish the quest. Moving as quickly as the terrain allowed, I crossed these trails, to submerged myself back into the undergrowth away from the reach of black riders. Slowly but surely I passed through and reached my goal. I regained my breath and set to searching for my prize. It took only a few moments and it was in my hand. I could see that time and the elements had not treated treasure well. Equipped with the means to refurbish the stash, I proceeded to make the substitution. In the distance I heard the noise I had been dreading. Black riders approaching from afar. I hid quietly out of sight as they came and passed by, only a few metres from where I waited with bated breath. They receded into the distance and I completed the substitution. I had succeededAnd replaced the cache. This was a great adventure. Hopefully the cache will last a while. I had forgotten the extra stash of moisture desiccant sachets so just left what I had. So with my goal achieved, it was just a matter to returning to the car, straight down and avoiding being run over by mountain bikers. I made it successfully, even with a couple of somersaults in the soft undergrowth. Yay! TFTC SL and cache replaced.

This was a bit of an epic. I prefer to do long walks in to my caches so tend to look up the more remote ones, this formed part of a long day and it was a bit bigger than i had planned. Weather was proper grim, cold, wet and the track very slippery. Good thing was no mountain bikers flying down the trail. Found the GZ and in i went with a quick find. Unfortunately the cache was in a seriously bad condition. Lid of the box is cracked so box was half full of water and everything inside, including log book, were trashed, soaked, muddy and in rusty water. I didnt bring any spares with me so tipped out the water and removed all the rubbish from inside, leaving just the wet log in there. So it will need a complete replacement i am afraid. (See photos). And then my trek out was also an epic, using the 4x4 track which had turned into a river, whilst also picking the leaches out of my nose, lip and mouth!! Only little ones! I enjoyed the challenge of getting to the cache and back in the awful conditions. [@Nutcache](http://coord.info/PRJ8QQ) Thanks for taking me there!

With my wife off on a long run and then working, I had the morning to myself and what better way to spend it then geocaching. But not just any geocaching adventure, but a FTF Hounding trip, followed by seeking some other Victourer caches and anything else that caught my eye.

Signed this one at 10.45 am, after rushing up the hill from the parking coordinates. I need to get some practice in before heading up Mt Doom (Mt Juliet) next weekend.

Thanks for the cache Cache Guardians and Nutcache.

this lord of the rings series is proving to be a favourite
no doubt it helps i’m a fair fan of the novels and films (though no hobbit trilogy please, we’ve standards here)
but each cache is placed in such an noteworthy locale that’s so reminiscent of the fantasy locations i visualised when i toiled for six months through the books (and yes, i really enjoyed the books but it was still a toil at times: you can only stomach so much of frodo and sam sludging through marshes for chapter on chapter)

so whenever i’m up warburton-way i try to find a few more of these precious treasures
like the others, this one ticked all my boxes: good location, nice little hike, made me think i was passing through the white mountains as a vagabond king of gondor
good stuff

I found it by the big tree the cache was full of water the seal is missing I couldn't write on the pad cos it was saturated. nice spot a bit fearful of my life with the mountain bikes. thank you. best regards Victor

*7/4/18, Found @ 12:18 pm, Find # 7789.*

It was a great day to head out and find a few caches so I met up with biggles1024 on we headed off with a number of caches as our targets.
This one was targeted for its unloved status so we entered the doorway to the path of the dead and made the steady uphill climb to GZ, it was slow going in sections but the journey was conquered, Mark was able to find the cache and sign the log for both of us while I was distracted with a phone call.

**Thanks to Nutcache for placing this cache and to Cache Guardians for looking after it.**

**Find #2957**
**Traditional Cache Find #2026**

I headed out early today with SteMicMitSar to target some unloved caches and a couple of Letter box Hybrids. Only seven days shy of a year of Unlove, this cache was one of today's targets. It was a hard slog up hill but thankfully, the ground leveled out somewhat over the last couple of hundred metres. I found this one while Steve was on a phone call. Today just wasn't my day. I left two sheets of waterproof paper as a temporary log.

**Thank-you to Cache Guardians for placing this geocache**

Third find if the day. That was quite a walk up, although little miss and master gourmet did a pretty good job of it. Mrs gourmet tried to head to flat ground a bit early so we had to back track a bit. Thanks for a really great walk!

Took: crepe bandage (which we might need for the walk down) and sticky frog

Left: small Chinese bowl and a compass/mini carabiner.

A bit of a trek to this one, but a fairly straightforward search at the end. These hills are pretty damn nifty. Thanks Nutcache!

25-Mar-16
Cache still here. Have no idea how we got here but if we head down hill should find the road and hopefully our car. Walked up from mt bride road following animal tracks!
Thanks.

23-Jan-16
Tftc, fair hike from the road, I advise taking the walking trail

22-May-15
Bonny Black and I trekked up and back from this cache via several tracks. The drop offs and ramp jumps provided for downhill Mtb riders are insane. Luckily for us it's was a quiet day except for a stumble or two. Thanks again Nutcache.

Faulksi and I made our way slowly to the cache along trails that have been modified for the mountain bike fraternity. Thankfully there were no bikers today, I would not like to get in the way of one of them on their journey to the bottom. When we arrived at GZ it didn't take too long to identify the tree we were looking for. Another good cache thanks Nutcache

Firstly let me state that my fitness level is well below average.
I stopped 3 or 4 times during the 40 minutes that it took me to scramble the 666 metres from the car to GZ. (Although at the angle of ascent I dare say I travelled almost 2kms all up.)
Perhaps I should have taken the distance as an omen, but, undeterred, I soldiered on.
Probably chose the hardest trail up the hill and I was drenched with sweat by the time I reached the top.
After catching my breath, the cache was soon in hand and all is well here. Smile
Yet another {unloved} cache to my tally with 270 days since the last find.
I thought I heard some mountain bikes descending on another trail as I was coming up.
I took a slightly different line on my return and followed fresh wheel marks.
At one point, as I cut a corner I slipped and ended up sitting in the wet scrub.
Soon after I heard the bikes coming down again and I moved aside before they reached me.
The first rider rounded the bend and continued down the hill, his mate was a short distance behind and I'm not sure if I spooked him or he simply took the wrong line through the corner but he ended up standing next to his bike. Wink
One hour and twenty five minutes round trip. One leech. 9 months unloved. What a fantastic experience.
Thank you for placing this series of caches nutcache. A favourite for sure!

Out grabbing a few caches in the bush this afternoon and this one was found after a long slog to the gz. It has been a while since this particular cache has been found and the log and contents are all fine, tftc Nutcache and for the walk.

I had left Warburton with the objective of finding the new cache at La La Falls. Having missed the turn off, I found myself continuing along the Old Warburton Road. Knowing that there were more of the Lord of The Rings series along here, I thought "no harm, I will get another LR cache instead". No harm? The first one along the way is this one, Path of the Dead and for a while there I thought I might become one of them...

I turned off onto Mount Bride Road and went as far as Edwardstown Road. Here it was out of the car and off Up the track...and I do mean Up! Steep? It rivals walking up The Wall at the old Templestowe Hill Climb (see cache GCZ814 "To Climb a Hill") but much, much longer. The first 500 metres or so took about 15 minutes of heart-pounding hard slog. With much effort I made it to where the track flattens out and it then becomes an easy stroll into the cache.

After signing the log it was time to carefully make my way back down to the car. I am glad I did it when the track was dry. If it was wet, I think it would be impassible. Thanks Nutcahe for this one. A tough one to finish the day on but enjoyable for the challenge met.

Out for a day caching. The main aim to try and capture Matrimonial Bliss, but on the way, to attempt a couple of Nutcache's hides. Mum's Subaru was emitting a funny noise when turning corners and I figured there might be a CV joint on the way out. What better thing to do than to take it down a few dirt tracks around Warburton! Only one leach for the day and an enjoyable time out in the bush.

The walk in for this one was pretty easy except for the mud! Managed to stay upright for the entire time, thanks more to luck than skill. The cache was found pretty easily but there was a bit of water in it. All the swaps are ok, the log was signable but the pen was useless. Replaced the pen and took the old one away for a proper disposal.

Couldn't imagine there would be a cemetery around here, I wouldn't want to log a corpse and a coffin up this hill!

Found with Beau_rl Very Happy. It was a difficult walk up, but even worse on the way back because I slipped on loose leaf litter and landed on my butt... twice! I'll be sore tomorrow! TFTC

Bah that was a climb! Now to head back down :"( almost as hard as little moria! Really enjoying these caches, saving me money at the gym Very Happy found with Beckett, tftc

Parked NW of cache and huffed and puffed to the top (I dare anyone to do all of this Lotr series in one day!). Found with the iPhone fine, with aid of clue and appropriate GZ. Path of the dead - put me on a mountain bike to head down the jumps of the bike track and yep - you've summed it up nicely. Tftc

1.22PM

This was a very long cache for me. I Parked the car on Mount Bride Road near Cemetary Track where it was a 2.2Km Trip as the bird flies to the cache. The first thing I came across was a group of half a dozen motorbikes burning down the track. I then took a side track and ended up on the wrong path and had to do some bush bashing towards the cache. I ended up on a nice little track which as I would later discover turned out to be a Mountain Bike Track. Around the time I found the cache, I heard a noise and there were maybe 10 guys on mountain bikes making their way down the track. I hid out of sight until they passed and then made my way back up the hill then down again to my car.

I cant believe I am the first person to log this find since Hi Pressure, December 6th 2009!!

Thanks to Nutcache for the cache!

Is this cache still active??? Nothing since 2009???

Found at 0915, After another steep climb except for the last 250 metres.
Would have been good if they had shown the 420 metres of the path in the movie.
This was a perfect setting for the movie with a bit of CGI.
Got to GZ and signed the log book but when I was about to leave I ran into the dead warriors.
So when I told them that Nutcache had sent me here, they said any friend of Nutcache was permitted to pass.
How lucky was I to get out.

4th find of the day and 2001st total find at 12:53.

We tried to take the short-cut from 'Shelob's Lair, but were thwarted by the really deteriorated track conditions caused by the recent rains. The track here is really slippery and boggy. If we were travelling in the company of another 4WD we would have pressed on - but discretion won out in the end.

When we reached the access point we had a few thoughts that are possibly unprintable. Nevertheless we pressed on, and yes it is a very hard, uphill climb - but we expected that.

The cache was eventually found after battling gravity, fallen trees, wet undergrowth and leeches!! Wow, what an experience.

Took: Nothing
Left: Screwdriver
Dropped: Diabetes TB
Thanks Nutcache for the cache.

Took the dog for a walk up this hill. Fair sort of a climb but I made it and found the cache ok when I got to the top.
This was my first cache for the afternoon.

Thankyou KL

20-Dec-08
Approached this from 2 different ways due to having to take 3yo up a hill. On second try, got within a couple hundred meters of fairly flat walking, but got distracted by the "track."
Decided a descent down the hill might be fun. Got high-centered over a lump, so the winch got her first use. Well worth it! Definitely gonna be going luggy-er tyres as soon as possible for areas like this! Was good fun, and spent more time not finding a cache than ever before!
Thanks for bringing us here. We shall be back.

I didn't have full name of this cache in my GPS so all i could see was "Pathof12" so naturally assumed it meant to say 'Path of Least Resistance.' Being a rebel i decided to go against this and climb up from the main road and boy was it hard! I was wearing shorts (big mistake but you have to learn somehow!) and now i have 'Geocaching Tattos" all over my leg! Anyways a great spot and well worth the blood and sweat! TFTC TNLN

What a hill!! This one really gave the legs a work out. I reckon the chance of muggles getting this one is very slim!! Our way down took longer than expected as Luck Dog decided to take herself on a solo walk through the bush in persuit of some bunny rabbits!

Paths of the Dead was an apt name for the way we felt by the time we got to the top. Must have been an exciting drive up or down this track. I can see why it is closed.
Thanks for the clue at the top, it made life a lot easier (as the GPS wasn't).
Thanks, Robmc.

06-Nov-06
Sure got some excercise on this one. Reminded me of some tracks I used to ride my motorbike up near Beechworth. It was a challenge then and this was a challenge now.
Did enjoy it though. Didn't bump into Alansee though.
Thanks.

Found at 2.55pm GAFF1. We drove around looking for a suitable and short access to this cache and found that the start of the Cemetery Track off Mount Bride Road was open. So we proceeded along the Cemetery Track until we got within 260m of GZ and according to our DNRE map there was supposed to be a (no name) track that went straight to the cache. We got out and started walking through the bush at S37° 46.632, E145° 41.061 and within 50 metres we found the remnants of the old track. Just as well as it was quite thick scrub that we were pushing our way through until we found a reletively clear path. Got to GZ and found the cache in good condition. Thanks Nutcache - we really appreciate these bush caches where we have to use some initiative to find a route. Took: Great Desert Tracks CD, Left: Tube of contact cement.

06-Oct-06
Walked in from below as I wanted the exercise and certainly got it! Cache was easily found thanks to the good clue but I was surprised to see that I was the first visitor in over a year! T sticker, L screws. Thanks Nutcache for the cache and the exercise!

14-Aug-05
Managed to park within 250m of the cache thereby eliminating a bit of walking. The trade-off however is that there is no track! Found cache without difficulty. No exchange made. Thanks Nutcache.

05-Aug-05
OK Nutcache, you got me back for Scottish Hillside. This one is a doozie. 670m seems like 670km, but I eventually made it, then got lost in the trackless bush. Took magnetic key locker, left roll of duct tape and a danish coin. Had to rely on the GPS to bush-bash back to the track. I bet geocachers are the only ones that use this track now! Oh - and I don't recommend this one after heavy rain. I slipped dozens of times on the way down!

23-May-05
Spent a fair bit of time trying to get close to this one. Not sure we got to it the best way ended going bush. Left USA quarter and took coin. Thanks nutcache.

24-Apr-05
Found a 12.50pm
Enjoyed the walk in to this cache.
Good to get the legs working
The Dead King soon revealed its secret
We took the TB and left a CD
Good one NC

Found by Mary & David at 1400. That was steep - when Nutcache says terrain 3½, that's what you get. Saw an echidna beside the track on the way up. As predicted, the dark lord attacked the satellites as we neared GZ, so we had to wander a bit, Found the cache in the fourth place we stopped at. Took key ring, left a coaster, a karma card, and (appropriately) TB 'The Left Hand of Death', which wants to be seen around caches in graveyards and cemeteries.

07-Nov-04
well this one got the heart beating, slipt and slided my way, that last 250 was most enjoyable. thanks phill.
took scissors and left fluro starters. we will have to get our mate phill U to come along caching.

23-Oct-04
Found 12:15, what a walk [B)] when we arrived we figured out who's car we had seen at the bottom of the track a fortnight ago; Rabbitto's!

Took Whoopee cushion and left Australian key tag, thanks Nutcache.

09-Oct-04
Found at 5:15pm. The sixth cache of nine on our Tour of Warburton. After just completing Little Moira and Sheobs Lair, we were really starting to feel stuffed. We didn't help ourselves on this one by completely walking down the wrong track for 500m each way before spotting the real path cleverly hidden, but right next to the car. "H" made the trip only 100m then waited for our return. This was a tough ask but finally found and logged. We were really looking forward to your mentioned 250m mark on the ascent.

Thanks Nutcache from D, S & H B-A. Took a squishy frog, left a Chilean 100peso.

04-Sep-04
Found at 11:25am with Muzza, GreatScott, and Kiwideb. Like they said in their logs it was a decsent climb to the top -OK now all of those muscles are stretched... It would have been good to have a dirt bike like some other guys we saw. Anyway the exercise was welcome. Swapped a j-hook stick pin out for a small bandage.

04-Sep-04
What a killer of a hill this was for me. Gosh I am so unfit. While the boys (Muzza, Alansan and GreatScott) forged ahead I plodded along behind them. Huffin and a puffin. Thank goodness we have walkie talkies. At least I had contact with them. Finally made it to the top and promptly found the cache at 1200.
Thanks for the walk, I'm sure I needed itWink.

04-Sep-04
We walked up the full distance for this one, breathing in the pure mountain air as we huffed and puffed our way to the top. Finding the cache was not a problem and Alan-san, Scott and myself soon had the cache logged, and re-hidden in time for Kiwideb to join us.

I took a snake and left a frog. Thanks, Nutcache, for the cache and for some well needed exercise.

08-Aug-04
Took the 200 meter entry looking very carfuly were I was steping as I didn't want to join the dead. Found easly. Looks like someone has done a "drive by" not long ago - not sure how they got in or if they should have been there.

Took Cockroach
Left RFDS sticker

On leaving in the car I saw a muggle in a front yard at the nearby town, so I stoped and asked if they knew were the cemetery was. They told me roughly were it was and that there is nothing there to see and a road is now over part of it. My map has a track and a creek named cemetery.

Thanks Nutcache
