So sad all that heavy foliage then the internet dropped out next time

Wow. Fallen trees, barely any path, prickly weeds, razor grass, spider webs, scrambling over bark and branch debris, this one has it all. Lucky it was a nice day out! Like those before me, got to GZ and saw it was indeed impressive, just to discover after lots of digging around I was at the wrong impressive!

Log is slightly damp but writing works, I won't forget this one any time soon. Don't do this in shorts unless you like lots of scrapes! TNLNSL TFTC CC

Thanks nutcache. I came in from the south a fair bit of bush bashing. I walked out to the north which was must much easier, a lot less bushes to bash. Found the gigantic tree. wow. signed the cache . thank you and regards from Victor

It was going to be cracking weather in Victoria today so we decided to head out bush and enjoy some caching in the sun.

Another epic journey to this one and plenty of scratches and rashes to boot, as well as one insect bite in the group. The path is over grown and covered in fallen trees. We arrived close to GZ only to discover - yep we need to go up there, but which one. The coords were a little off but it’s more likely the gps was out due to the heavy tree cover. Finally found the cache and signed the log before another bush bashing adventure back to the car.

Thanks Cache Guardians for the cache.

A gorgeous day for a road trip, exploring with Mrs Papi4506 & RoamingHowie.
Road? What road? lol
We found something that loosely resembled an old track, which has now been overgrown with all sorts of nature. And so we began what could only be described as an under, over, around, through... you know in the movies where they are breaking into somewhere that has red laser beams criss-crossing in all directions? That.
Arriving at the closest point, it was now time to scramble up the rather loose soil wall to something that resembled the hint. After a few minutes of searching, we read some logs and soon realised we were at the wrong one. There is another "just over there".
A few minutes of bush-bashing later, we made it through, and circled in both directions, until I spotted the cache in it's well-hidden hidey place. I reached in and down through all the fallen bark and twigs, and finally our names were in the book.
We returned to the geo-Gertie-mobile where we assessed all our cuts, scratches and insect bites, before moving to the next.
Note: If GT begins wearing hikers, it will be because of this cache.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, Cache Guardians

This one definitely had me re-thinking my safety footwear. Not sure if it was a plant or insect but boy oh boy did I get some serious itches on my feet that lasted for days.
It is with thanks to OHC and RH that this one was found. It certainly is a road to nowhere. Thanks for placing this cache. I do enjoy trying to find the old ones.

10-Jan-21
It is with huge thanks to OHC and RH that this cache is logged. Road to nowhere it might have been when the cache was placed but now there is not even a road. Leeches weren't the worst that GT had to put up with. She received a number of stings/bites, those safety boots of hers weren't very safe today.
Thanks for the cache and maintaining it for so long.

Out with ilukaperi for our first caching trip in about 8 weeks. A really nice day out, blue skies, not too hot, not too cold.

We navigated along the old road and then up the bank. A previous finder had warned me that the co-ords might be a little off, but we found the cache regardless. That is one MASSIVE tree, very impressive!

17-May-20
Our first caching day since March, day1976 and I got out and got some unlove around Powelltown.
A bit of an adventure to get to! Second giant tree, we had to bush bash our way in and spotted it after a bit of wandering around.

**Find #2965**
**Traditional Cache Find #2034**

I headed out early today with the intention of finding some unloved caches and performing some maintenance. This isn't so much a road to nowhere but rather, no road. [B)] I headed up the track getting tangled in a great many black berry vines along the way. It didn't take long and I found myself near GZ so I put my GPS in my pocket and scrambled up the slope and started to search. I scratched around like a Lyre bird with a stick. I circled the tree three times and came up empty handed. Sad I resorted to reading previous logs. A five year old log gave me a hint. I looked around a spotted a second candidate. I bush bashed my way to it, started to search around the base and then, as I rounded a corner, spotted the cache. It was only partially hidden under bark and leaves. I was very relieved to have found this one. A nice number of unloved days too.

When my wife says "Do you want to go camping this weekend?", my answer is as immediate as it is predictable: "YES!".

This time, I went camping alone. I grabbed all the camping equipment, and made for the hills. As I was arriving later than I'd hoped, I only picked up one cache on the way ([GC1PBRZ](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1PBRZ_winches-relics-from-the-past)).

Once I arrived at Starling Gap campground, I started with the essentials of life: fire, food and shelter. Having set the camp up, I tucked into some tucker (spaghetti on toast is a nice easy camping meal), and then decided to go for a walk.

Unfortunately, by this time it was about 9pm and it was starting to get dark. Fortunately, however, I knew the Boy Scouts' motto *Be Prepared*, and had brought a head torch and batteries.

I headed off up the road about 15 minutes before nightfall. Fortunately, there was enough light to see the *Road to Nowhere* from the track, so I didn't have to bush-bash. I've recently started using Geosphere (partly for the offline features), and decided now would be a great time to add some extra waypoints like the Campground and key points along the trail so I'd be able to find my way back in the dark.

I arrived at GZ as it was finally getting properly dark, and had my work set out for me! I spent about 5 minutes looking around where I thought it might be, before I remembered what a previous log had mentioned: leeches!

Checking myself over, I discovered that 4 of the suckers (pun completely intended!) had indeed found me. I grabbed out my little vial of salt (once again, *Be Prepared* ) and removed them with ease. Luckily for me, I'd found them before they had a chance to anti-coagulate me, and had no lasting effects.

So, back to the search. I tried some more likely spots, but soon discovered that being in the middle of the bush, on your own, at night, and (so the saying goes) *using million-dollar satellites to find a Tupperware container in the bush*, wasn't as much fun as I thought.

After about half an hour of fruitless searching, I decided to call it quits for the night. I followed my waypoints back to the campground and decided a hot chocolate and a book would be a great way to finish the night.

Whilst I didn't find the cache (yet), I did have a great adventure. Thanks for the cache Nutcache - I'll definitely be back again! Smile

#426 - #2 of #6 caches that I attempted today for the unloved.

After gathering the required information to National Treasure at the Plane Sailing cache, I proceeded to the start The Gap cache.

I thought I would tackle this one before I did the multi so I left the car there and walked up the track.

Up I went until oh look at that, it's pointing up there.

A climb, a bush bash (I'm getting pretty good at bashing bushes), and the cache was soon in hand.

Thanks again Nutcache, I am starting to think I will never find an easy ending to one of your caches.

Yesterday's unloved: about 44 months
Today's unloved: about 9 months so far.
(Will sort out exact dates later with GSAK).

Found @16:19 #3258
Today found myself back in a familiar region this time exploring further east then before, hunting the caches which don't see many visitors. On the run today with me was Ahomburg who's car is better suited for these types of roads. The weather overall was pleasant but overcast for most of the day and cooler then last weekend.

After first looking around the closest obvious target decided to trust the GPRs more and this lead to another. Once there it was a quick find. Thanks for bringing me out here today.

Date: 26 October 2013
Time: 4:20pm
Find # 3317
Streak: 87 days

Another perfect caching day today, so headed out again to a familiar place for some unfinished business from last weekend with my caching mate SedgwickDave. Our main target was a cache called "Plane Sailing", while picking up as many of the other caches around the area while we were at it.

We parked the car nearby and headed up the walking track to within 20 metres of GZ when we worked out where it was going to be hidden, but we were wrong, looked around a bit, then spotted another candidate to fit the hint and there it was, a couple of minutes later we were at GZ and our reward was in hand. It took a bit of monkey business to get back to the track and onto the next one.

Thanks to Nutcache for the cache. TNLN

Found at the end of an 18 km bushwalk from Starlings Gap. Pretty neat walking but you need to have a map, digital or otherwise, if trying to navigate the logging roads...

We first searched around the wrong tree but fortunately did not give up and found the right spot!

3up, my son, and myself were in the area officiating in the ARC rally which finished early because of the rain. Finishing early could have been a bad thing, UNLESS YOU'RE A GEOCACHER! We took the short walk up the hill, and made the detour to find the well hiden cache. Thanks for the hide.

Find # 1591 @ 15:25
Found with squalid after the Rally of Victoria ended early due to the rain. Nice walk and hide.
Thanks Nutcache!

Nice little walk/run, it is getting very competitive to be the one who finds the cache.
At least it is giving everyone a laugh, s was very amused when mum fell on her backside.

Took my younger family and cousin camping up at the Starlings Gap camp site. So in the morning I introduced him to geocaching. It took us a while to find the location because my GPS kept saying we were there. Luckily I had read the encripted notes before leaving so we made our way to GZ. My cousing is now a new cacher.

I also remember coming up to starlings gap before this road was put in... and then not long after the road was there. The camp site hasn't changed much but the roads and walking tracks have.

Didn't have a chance to find any more caches either as we got stuck on some pretty hairy 4x4 tracks and I managed to blow my clutch.
Untill then is was a great weekend.

Found @ 1200 after a short brisk walk from the nearby picnic spot. I was in the area as I was running a navigational event for my 4wd club and we were using the nearby picnic area as a lunch stop for the competitors. Showed a fellow club member the joys of geocaching and I'm sure he will be hooked and finding his own shortly.

Took a walk from our camping spot to get this one on Federal Election Day morning.A beautiful spot as the sun was driving the mist up through the trees. Took this one a bit too casually at first but soon corrected for an easy find. Took a fly and left some hair spirals. Thanks to Nutcache.

24-Oct-07
Easy find when I chose correctly. One has to think that this road was a rather big mistake!? Surprised thanks for the cache Nutcache.

Its strange to think of how much this 'Short Cut' woudl have costed... and why it was done??? Hmmmmmm

Great cache which i managede to log at about 6:45am this morning... up with the sun so though why not go caching!

It was a nice walk up to within 4 metres of gz then on this damp morning it became very slippery but we managed found the cache left hair tie and took small car.
Thanks for the cache

16-Oct-05
We parked the car and headed off towards GZ, being overconfident we ended up taking the shorter steeper route to the cache. The cache was found easily and we made our swaps
Took Egg Cup
Left packet of colour changing pens
We took the longer but gentler route back to the car. It was great to see some majestic eucalypts that have stood against the ravages of man & nature.
Thanks Nutcache for showing us this strange piece of road

Our second find. Still learning how to use the GPS. Discovered a road with almost the same name as the one we were looking for but it lead us away from the target. Found cache after a short search. Left a travel bug that was retrieved earlier in the day.

10-Apr-05
It was time to christen the new GeoOutback on a real road. And Starling Gap is one of our favourite places from when it was just a forest clearing to the current well appointed picnic area. We admired the skill of the shooters who had managed to hit the roof of the picnic shelter with several shotgun blasts at close range. Real skill! We wandered up the "road to nowhere" in search of the cache. The road builders also showed their skill. They have carved a freeway standard road and cut off about two bends in the road. Unfortunately the new road is rather steep and would probably save very little time even if it did connect. If anyone is curious, it was started about July 2001 and, from the photos taken then, no further work has been done since. Have a look at Forest Photos. The whole thing looks like another government money-wasting project.

With a small amount of agility, the cache was quickly located at 4:35pm. It was now raining quite a bit so we retired to the picnic shelter to write the log. At this point we really appreciated the bullet holes in the shelter roof since by now it was raining hard!! We took a box of crayons and left a packet of beer labels plus some desiccant to keep the logbook dry. When the rain stopped, we went for a short walk along the old timber tramway track and picked up quite a few leeches along the way (as did the GeoDogs). Then we returned the cache to its hiding place. Thanks NutCache for bringing us back here. We now have authentic dirt on the new car.

10-Dec-04
Found by Mary & David at 1120. Looks like some vehicles are still trying to use the old road. Found with no problems. Took travel manicure set, left 4-piece tweezer set and a karma card. We were just about to drive off when a ute pulled up with two guys from the team doing road works further east. They advised that the road was dug up, so we returned to Warburton the way we'd come. Our thanks again to Nutcache.

06-Dec-04
Last one from a pretty good short day of caching with 5 done in 4 hours, and no not founds. YAY! I took the shorter of the short options, but then the GPS led me astray and I ended up searching the wrong place with heaps of hidey holes, but then checked it again and it was point the other way. Then it was straight to the cache. A great way to finish the day. Cheers.

21-Nov-04
Found at 4.15pm in the company of BB2. We missed this cache during the Winches & Waterfalls event as we followed a bum lead down the Ada Tree walking track which took us miles out of our way. So as we were in the vicinity today, we stopped and located it without too much of a problem this time. TN/LN
Thanks Nutcache

Found at 3:15pm by Muzza, followed by myself and Kiwideb. This was an interesting find - seeing that a climb up a slipery area was required first I let Muzza go ahead, then when he call "found it", I made my way up. When Kiwideb came along she tried in 2F+2HD (2 feet + 2 hand drive), but couldn't make it. Seeing this Muzza and I grabbed a long branch and extended it down as a hand rail, she made it easily enough after that. The cache was very easy to spot and I swapped a spoon and stick pin out for a hippo egg cup in. The spoon proved very useful, as we used it to flick off what seemed like hundreds of leaches in later caches. Thanks Nutcache.

06-Nov-04
This was a nice easy one to get to except when I had to climb the bank. Kept sliding down Big Grin. Muzza had found the cache before I could even get up the bank. With the help of a branch and the guys I was able to get there. With a little help from your friends hey?Smile
Cache was found at 0315 swapped a fly for an ant.
Its very wet, my 4th cache of 6 for the day.

06-Nov-04
After a lot of rain in the last few days, the whole area was drenched, making the last part of the approach a little difficult. Alan-san and I made it, but Kiwideb required a little help. Again, I was the one lucky enough to find it, followed by Alan-san and Kiwideb. (It helps to be able to get to GZ first). A nice easy find.

I took an octopus and left a pair of mini utility knives. Thanks, Nutcache, for the cache and for the expedition into the wilderness.

found at 1945, looks like ile be driving home in the dark. we were going to do matrimonial bliss but ended up here in stead wanted to show the kids starlings gap. this road caused quite an uproar when they put it in, they should have finished it and used it it cuts about 8 corners off. oh well great place for a cache.drove back in the fog and poring rain, was allways on the lookout for walking rocks, brahams road is famous for them. thanks.

Found without any trouble - (it wasn't covered over terrribly well). Took skipping rope, left manicure set.
Thanks!

Found after a good search of were I suspect the posted coordinants are and then moveing on to a similar nearby place. Did it go back in the right place? Not sure.

As for the road - they were building that over 2 years ago when I was there - not sure when it will open. I asked over the CB why they were building it and they said it was "something to do on a sunday afternoon"Surprised.

Thanks Nutcache

Found by the ELTHAM Mob as part of the Winches & Waterfalls 4WD Event cache.

The kids chose the higher road on the high road, pitty it ended about half way along and we then had to get them down the embankment !? It would be interesting to learn a bit more about this, as they certainly went to a bit of effort in the construction.

I am still laughing at some of the geocachers that attempted this one. I can't mention any names, they know who they are. TNLN Thanks Nutcache

15-Aug-04
We have no idea who actually found the cache as it was surrounded by people by the time we got there. Brendan took a frog and we proceeded to fill the cache and watch the other children take what they wanted. I don't know what we ended up putting into it in the end.
An interesting "highway" in the middle of nowhere.

Fount at 14.25 in the company of Geofreak and Pyrenees Kid. Interesting piece of seemingly useless engineering and we speculated as to reasons why. Found at 2:30pm. Our fifth cache on the wonderful Winches & Waterfalls 4WD Event. After some lunch and chat with the other cachers, it was time to tackle this cache, but the high road or the low road? From our group, two went up, two went down and it didn't matter anyway as we met in the middle.

hmm, upper road, lower road. I started walking down the lower road to find i made a mistake, so istead of walking all the way back i tried going thru the bush to get up to the other road, hmm too slow by 2 mins, the other team found it.. An easy hding spot.. I wonder why they built this raod aand then suddenly abandoned it?? TNLN
