Site has been destroyed by fire.

I have archived this cache, but fear not, a new cache is available at GCA in the same locality: http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga0722

Road still closed - but fire out, dog walking locals and teenagers jumping off the rope into the river. Some of the burnt out trees will have to be removed near the road then i think it will reopen. The cache was only perhaps a metre or less from where the firefighters stopped the blaze - if it had been on the other side of the road it would have definitely survived. Forgot to take my gloves so i didn't really get into the remaining cutting grass at the tree base - hit around with a stick. GPS was all over the shop and nothing found resembling a melted cache so don't give up on this one yet.

Rippunzel has advised that the cache may have been effected by a recent fire in the area

I will investigate it and re-enable the cache if all is well

Found the area pretty easily but took a while to find the cache. In the end we did a bit of bush bashing in the direction the GPS was telling us and there it was. This is a pretty nice spot in here, we've camped a couple of ks down the road some time back. Took a glass and left a keyring. Dropped off the All American geocoin. Nice cache, thanks for this.

Found this one after a bit of a hunt. I emerged from the jungle after signing the log to find my legs had been torn up quite well, and some leeches had hopped aboard! The dangers of caching in shorts [B)]

Mrs Steve thought I was nuts for wearing shorts in Tasmania in Winter, even before the fight with the thorns and sword grass tore up my legs and ruined my promising modelling career [:o)]

In any case, we found the cache (no swaps today) and then spent a magical hour watching 5 or 6 platypii frolicing in the near by river.

Thanks for showing us another part of your great state!

Cache terrain updated and so are the notes.

The cache is about 2m in from the clearing (yes, dak...there is a clearing just up the road a bit.. I do know what a clearing is!!).. I have altered the hint and the notes to reflect this

This was to be the twelfth find for the day, but it was not to be. I have a few reservations about this cache: first, a clearing is 'an open space in a forest', not a space that is filled to the gunwales with sword grass and trees; second, Tasmanians seem to have a strange idea about what difficulty one is; and third, terrain one? I'd like to see you get a wheel chair in there.

Anyhow, quibbles aside, I searched all around the area where my GPSr pointed me. When I failed to find it I decrypted the hint. It seemed that I was looking in the right area, so I looked again. No cigar! I decided that the hint could also be interpreted at a location nearby, but a search there failed to uncover the goods. My GPSr still insisted that the original GZ was correct, and I didn't have access to DigitDick's alternative coordinates. Then I sliced my finger on the accursed sword grass, and started bleeding like a pig. I gave it away as a bad joke at that point after about 20 minutes of searching. The rain didn't help--I was as wet as a shag from wading through the "clearing". I can't imagine that this one has been muggled, but it is too well hidden for my meagre talents.

It's still where I left it.

On a side note saw *5* platypus in the nearby ponds.
Absolutley amazing!! (We were there around 3:30pm)

Dropped off Digger TB

Nice spot. Best to come closer to dusk/dawn to see the Fatty Puss!

We looked everywhere.... but my eTrex GPS seems to be playing up badly, I am losing faith in it. Found little square clearing, lots of cutting grass, many trees,... tried the alternate waypoint (from DigitDick's log), but ended up with no find Sad

Well, we thought, how nice to visit an area we ahven't been to beofre - just a pity that we couldn't locate the cache!!! Think that we found the clearing - and gazed upon a sea of cutting grass. Fed the local mozzies and leeches before finally calling it a day! Unfortunately, unlike others, we didn't fall over it on the wayback to the car!!

TFTC Craigrat. Interesting choice of hiding spot. Platypus and quail spotted. Oh and a few muggles - watch the 9 am tour bus. Platypus quite unperturbed by someone testing his new remote controlled boat! T candle L something

This one took a heap of searching as satellite accuracy was very bad!
We were on the road to giving up and on walking back to the car, stumbled over it!

Great spot to come and play. This one was easy to find not sure though if waypoint is accuracy, as I found it on the way to GZ.

Passing Philosopher's Stone through.

Unfortunately, I lost this TB in a Bag-Stuck-Out-The-Car-Door accident on the way back to Latrobe.

Please keep an eye out on your travels to and from this cache along the road.

Found after a long search. The GPS was next to useless, thrashed around in the reeds for a long time looking for the right trees to match the right reeds to match the container.

Eventually came up quids, not long before quitters luck was going to set in.

No swaps today! Cache was in good nick.

Thanks

Righto....

Talk about taking our time getting around to this one. It's not like we haven't thought about it before. Sure, we knew the area, because we'd driven down here more than once to have a go at the cache, only to realise that we didn't have the notes, or the waypoing in the GPS or something...
Well, we were prepared today, and found the cache easily. Amazing huh? ... No, not really! Wink

Took - Keyring.
Left - Something really kewl... I think.... I hope (man, was I even really there?). Wink

Third find for the afternoon. Poor sat. geometry giving us a wide search area, but we got there in the end!

Took paratrooper complete with parachute
Left keyring thermometer

Another good one . ..

Thanks

This one turned out to be a bit of an epic. The GPS lost it’s reception on the drive in so we went about 500 m too far. Never mind, a nice walk back to GZ. Past the ponds where the rumour has it there are platypus (not seen any in two visits but) and we started looking. Looked everywhere (we thought), even tried some other clearings, but on the way out the old man has one last look and BINGO!! Success. Hindsight is wonderful but the clue really does help.

Took pen
Left mini multi coloured pen

Thanks Craigrat, a wonderful place.

Well,
after a corker of a ferry ride, we made it to Tassie Mania.
Sadly we didn't find the good bar on the ship for new years, but we found a great little forest to rest our weary heads. After a long nap LAchlan and I found the cache without too much difficulty. we dropped of Taz and picked up the lizard. which happily stuck its tongue out at every passing motorist. this was the first day of our two weeks in Tasmania. Very restful.

Found this cache when I was still a member of Beakers Bunch.
Thankyou

Found at 0935.
Took a fair bit of searching to find this one... and even then, it was a bit of an accident. I didn't manage to see any platypus but then again I didn't look. We had too many caches to collect, and only a few days to do it in.
TNLNSL
Thanks Craigrat.

About time I logged this find. Yes, a lot of geotrampling around the reported zero-zone, but the cache is not exactly at the zero-zone, so it's all good... I too saw this cache from Sheffield, and attacked it from the wrong side of the river! I got to within 350 metres, but there's a river in the way, - but it was a lovely area anyway. TNLNSL - I think. Too long ago. Thanks!

Finally found this one with the help of Jantas.

I swear it was not there the two other times I have searched!
Left pearl bracelet took snoopy.
Thanks for taking us us to this great spot. There was even a wedding going on there on a very nice day.

Found after a little search around the area. Obviously others had searched before us by the look of the flattened tufts of grass. We were totally amazed at the content/amount of rubbish that people have dumped a few metres east of cache hiding place. However, a great hidey-hole in an area that we have never been before. We left some novelty sunglasses and took my special pressie that Snuva left for me. Thanks Snuva, I love it! ..... and thanks CraigRat for the cut on my shin ... oooops, sorry, I mean't thank you for the fun! ... Smile:)

I found it, I felt like kicking the box around the bush and yelling and screeming. Its taken 4 goes, I have dragged so many people out there. The grass flattened?, well that was me, as I said it took 4 goes and many people. I was looking at the two trees, its just a pitty there is so many trees together. I feel a lot better now that I have found it. You may need to change the Difficulty to around 7 stars, took the glasses, left sticks of RAM to be used a as key rings. The kids love the glasses.

Must need new glasses or something. I have had two goes at finding this one with no luck.
Spent forty minutes in those bushes glad I carry a pair rigger gloves those things can cut you very easily.
Any more hints..........please!

Mrs Energizer found on team energizers way home from our west tamar day caching trip, excellent spot for a relaxing walk after a long day of caching.

similar experience to the one you had at plattacat craigrat, we couldn't find one of the local inhabitants either Sad but we had a ball trying Smile (maybe it was the noise the junior energizers were making that scared em off)

would you believe I lived about 3kms from here as a Kid & I think we only ever came here once back then, has been a long time since I've been here, I'd forgotten how beautiful it is.

took taz pez dispenser, left monkey & a monster.
thanks heaps craigrat this stop broke up our days drive very nicely Smile

The Aloysius Clan took the new cachemobile ( http://digger.dubwug.org/Kombi ) out for a picnic here today. Lovely sunny day, lovely spot. Have camped here in the past and its a great spot for a BBQ. Has changed a bit since my last visit, the fatty puss walk wasnt there last time.

Digger Aloysius Actually jumped in for a swim in the river but it was a bit chilly for Mr and Mrs Aloysius.

Found cache after a bit of a search GPS was jumping around heaps due to the canopy of the nearby gum trees.

Signed Log, Left Snoopy and an Army Man, took torch.

Cheers Craig very enjoyable day out.

We first attempted this on just before dark on day one of our 'escape from Hobart Show Day' northern cache trip. Our first approach didn't get us there in the end, and one of Snuva's slaves tripped spectacularly (haven't had a scabby knee like that since I was in school), but we were serenaded by cows. We then approached from the correct direction only to be foiled in the end by darkness. Rather than break out the flashlights, we decided to just camp nearby and attempt again in the morning.

In the soft light of morning (well, mid-morning - we are on holiday!) we found it. Snuva was so excited she escaped from her entourage for a celebratory swim - oops. Took a nail set and swapped in a monster, some band-aides, and a little something for Mrs Waterwells.

BTW - the gates are locked here between sunset and sunrise.

Didn't find it but I was only there 5 minutes and GPS jumping around a bit (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Anyway till next time.

I was a bit concerned at the number of no-finds, so I dropped in on the cache today to check it. It is still nestled in its hiding place and still at the posetd co-ordinates.

Happy Hunting!!

06-Oct-04
Went looking yesterday but no luck.
My gps did a bit of moving around making it hard to pin down. I wondered if I was actually in the wrong place next to the river at a popular fishing spot judging by the rubbish left around and the variuos fire places used.
I approached from the Raiton road side via a plantation.
Perhaps I was on the wrong side of the river!
Will try again in a couple of weeks hopefully someone will locate it in the meantime

Ok, A friend and I went, both with GPS's in hand, waypoints entered, we looked and looked, no luck. Not giving up wife and kids went next time, we looked and looked, found things that the clue talked about, had a good lock on sats, still no luck. Should I ask if its still there or should I go and have another look? All that aside its a nice place.

Horus and I finally made it to the D'Anvers Chocolate factory for a rather belated birthday lunch for me. After eating more than was necessary I felt that my conscience would be feel better if we tackled a geocache for some exercise.

We found the general area for this one with no problems, parked the car and set off for a walk. This is a lovely spot only spoilt while we were there by the people across the river 'hooning around' on 4 wheel motorbikes and baths (don't ask!). The GPS was less than cooperative and we found it hard to get a lock on the cache position and the readings fluctuated wildly. Mind you the batteries were very low and this probably had a lot to do with things. However we found the cache with the aid of the hint and some general "..if we were hiding this where would we put it?" type thoughts.

I took the micro yoyo keyring and left a "Vetmedin" pen from one of the drug companies I deal with. For those of you that are wondering I'm a vet.

After replacing the cache we sat and waited for some wildlife to appear but apart from a flock of raucous cockatoos and the hoons across the river none was to be seen.

This is a lovely spot and one we'll bring the geokids to next time.

Well Bastvet beat me to it and said just about everything I was going to write - so that's it, we enjoyed our visit, it is indeed a wonderful spot - not bad for an old quarry! Took the gc.com compass keyring and placed a scented candle. Nice one CraigRat - thanks for taking us somewhere were didn't know existed!
