Still have not found the cache but while walking round the Park today took the opportunity to see if WP2 was OK. The key case has lost its side rail and the lid won't stay on so I placed it down low, immediately below where it was a long time ago on the darker, shadier side of the structure. This is a very good area for a cache so it would be great to have WP1 back in use.
Given the cache details stated WP1 was no longer there, didn't bother looking for it. WP2 was not up high, but down low. The case is damaged. Put it back up high in a way where hopefully it will stay there, and the lid will stay on. WP3 had muggles around it, and we figured that without WP1 there was little value in the info at WP2 and WP3. Decoded the cache clue, and found it easily. Very waterlogged; did not try to sign the log book. On the way out, found WP3 as muggles had moved on; very ingenious.
11.50am. We came to the park for a picnic lunch so decided to see if the cache was still there. Found the second and third way points and then following the final hint went straight to it. There was a little water in the cache but otherwise OK. Dried it out over lunch before replacing. No swaps. Thank you David & Noeline
Didn't realise it was archived. No wonder I couldn't find waypoint 1! Waypoint 2 was at the bottom rather than the top and waypoint 3 was an absolute beauty. Read the final clue and applied the "cache setter transition algorithm" to deduce the final resting place - and there it was!
During my stay in Christchurch this was without doubt the most memorable cache that we hunted/found. It will be a real shame if this cache is not re-instated.
Do you want me to see if I can do a replacement?
It's a pity with the timing - There were several cachers from Auckland visiting in the last few weeks.

Had a lovely picnic tea at Mona Vale with Linleye & Claw of the Forest. Would not have found the final cache without the help of Linleye as the clue at waypoint 1 has been very recently removed during a new paint job. Had lots of fun, great cache. Took keyring left sparkly pen.
Painters: natural enemy of the hidden waypoint.
We'll arrange a replacement very soon.

A quite easy find, though we're lucky to have read up on the cache and had a calculator with us. The waypoints were easy to find, as was the cache itself. The prize though is the walk through these beautiful gardens. We took many photos for memories of the afternoon. Thanks to Ian for a really great multi, in the heart of Riccarton.
Where do we start with this one?! Found 2 of the waypoints very easily, however the other left us scratching our heads awhile. In the end we resorted to the clue to find it. But wait there is more.. We then had a few issues sorting out the final co-ords until Brent had a brainwave and yet again came to the rescue. Luckily one of us had the brains with them today. TNLN Cheers!
This one has given me so much grief. They say 2 heads are better than one. Certainly the case when I caught up with Black Panther and compared notes. There is an almost identical hiding place at the other end, strangely much easier to access in the snow. Today being fine and sunny had no trouble finding the correct place. Made a swop.
A good place for a Saturday morning walk. Hardly anyone about so didn't take long to get the WP's. Cache is there, but TNLN. Thanks
Could not find cache today. Suspecting it had been muggled contacted Bear_Left who confirmed I had identified the location correctly. The cache maybe replaced shortly. Enjoyed the hunt.
Clever hides. Walked here form Heritage Hotel.

We really enjoyed this one - love how the waypoints fit the location . . .
Struggled a bit with WP2 co-ords and had to resort to the hint (after trying not to look like we were looking for something - muggles everywhere)
TNLN. Cheers bears - CPAZ.

FTF after new final cache in place. This was a really fun multi with very good ideas on pushing the sport to it's limits. Thanks for the cache TNLNSL
Did some maintainence on one of the waypoints but no joy on final cache. Pity, loved this cache, the multi's very well hidden.
Well it's about time I found this one i done all the leg work one year ago, in fact I replace the device at Wp2 for you then cause it was broken. but ran out of time to find the box were runing late an had to be else were.. still a great spot, bust place today.
Many Thanks Bitsprayer

Wow, now I understand what is so special about Bear caches! Amazing effort and skill going into those hiding places. Just a note - the second waypoint was difficult to reach (and I'm average height - 1.66cm!), and even more difficult to replace. Glad no muggles heard the noise as I dropped it twice! TNLN
Another great effort by the Bears. I actually found the waypoints many months ago and have been back a few times since, but for various reasons (forgot GPS batteries, forgot clues, crap weather...) didn't actually look for the cache until today, and of course I'd been about 3 feet away from it several times without even looking!

We were waiting for a warm sunny day to spend among the splendours of Mona Vale. All we have had for ages is cold southerly or easterly winds, so we gathered the usual suspects together and got on with it. It was fantastic - so much work has gone into this (brain and brawn). How clever you are. TFTC. Left Julian the Hairdresser TB and a jandal keyring and a dolphin. Took the blindfold and warhammer figure. Linleye.
Couldn't find the first waypoint. Not sure if it had been muggled or it was my own bafoonery. I loved the other waypoints. Very original. I did use the clues to look around for the final cache, but no luck there. I'll be back in town in a few weeks so if you find that everything is fine, I'll try again. Thanks for showing me a great garden I didn't know was there.
Great workout for the mind and body - loved the waypoints. Had to go home to get calculator to figure out final co-ordinates. When I went back to get final cache bumped into KiwiKat, so we did it together. Thanks
After correcting a minor error by the Brains Trust, found this one along with kiwisean this morning. Thanks for the assistance and nice to meet another geocacher.

BRILLIANT clue hiding places and enjoyed working out the final co-ords, but think the cache has been muggled. Thanks for the fun, anyway, B_L
Thanks Kiwilegend for replacing the missing WP, as soon as I noticed that Karewa was available again I scurried along with the family and plenty of food for the ducks. WPs were great, even managed to find 1 and 3 without using the clues! Would of never found 2 though. Cheers Bear_Left. +candle +mordor's minion.
Kiwilegend, you're a... well... legend!
On discovering a missing waypoint, he immediately offered to help replace it (and this was a seriously manufactured object, too) and did so with something that's _better_ than the original!
In fact, even if you've already done this cache, go for a walk in the gardens to check it out!

The waypoint has been replaced. And this time the disguise is even more devious!
After the waypoints, the final cache was pleasantly easy to find - and coords were spot on - when I approached from the right direction. This one definitely deserves its 'recommended' rating on http://www.geocaching.com.au/

Waypoint 3 is missing.
It was the only one we found last time we were here for a summer shakespeare performance. The numbers disappeared from the PDA with GPXSonar's field notes file, so we had to come back for that one too. The others and the magnet are all well and good.
If you let me know the numbers, I am quite happy to make up a replacement. Perhaps a bit of the same material would be a bit less muggle-attractive than the plastic or whatever it was before...

What more could one ask - to be out cache hunting on a beautiful Autumn afternoon. And in such a wonderful location, with the slanting sun lighting up the gold, red and yellow colours everywhere.
I was duly impressed with the cunning Bear's hiding places - they were not too hard to find, but the ingenuity was very educational - gives me loads of new ideas!! Each waypoint and the final cache took only a few minutes to locate - so I ended up sitting for a while to absorb the ambience. No swaps.
An added piece of "history": - I was the drainage engineer who designed the two weir structures you can see in this reserve. The old mill race was stagnant, and flood waters once streamed across the lawns and right through the property to the east. So we opened it up, and now it takes all the floodwater, provides "ladders" for the fish, and also provides water for the ornamental stream through the neighbouring school grounds.
Its a place with many memories for me.

We thorougly enjoyed this ingenious cache. It was a gorgeous Christchurch late autumn day which made the hunting even more fun.
We congratulate you on the cleverness of this cache - many thanks.

Thanks for this one Bears, nice wander around the homestead before having a bit of difficulty with the final cache.. We were looking in the right area, just completely missed the cache location. (I'd read the cache description wrong and was looking for a 5 litre container.. oops.) Almost gave up before a final look had us kicking ourselves, heh.

A nice, sunny autumn walk around Mona Vale, another place we have never been. The waypoints were very cleverly disguised. After finding all the waypoints we sat with the mobile phone and tried to do the sums, but gave up when they put us 300 metres away, so used the hint and found the cache first pop. Left Zelda the evil-fighting TB (there are no evil caches in Christchurch), took the donkey card game.
This was great fun as most of the Bear_Left caches are. Got there in the end and luckily not many visitors to the garden, so it was easy to be sneaky. No swaps. [8d]
A theatre group was having a dress rehearsal on the lawn here today. We got slightly distracted and ended up watching the rehearsal for quarter of an hour.
My word you bears lay good caches! I couldn't stop laughing at WP1 - right there in front of everyone's eyes! WP2 proved very ellusive, GPS was ~50m off, probably due to tree cover - hint didn't even help as we couldn't find anything to match the description. Called Swanny on the mobile phone in the end and he directed us to the location! Part of the reason we had so much trouble finding WP2 was because the theatre group were rehearsing very near that area, and we didn't want to disturb them. As for WP3 - that's just tricky. Tricky tricky tricky! Many thanks - really enjoyed this cache

My addition and long division is, well rather rusty, ranging from bad to appauling. It got much better when I realised that my phone has a calculator feature - had BigNick forgotten? Only needed clue for first part and that's because it was dark . Dried out the cache a bit in the sun before putting it away (no complaints about the weather thats for sure). Thanks BL, for a great cache.
Really enjoyed this one. Especially the clever waypoints. Beautiful gardens as well. Thought I had logged this by cellphone but see that I didn't. Took TB Ducky (he will fly to Sweden soon) and dropped of a carabiner.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Ok so I am a bit slow on the uptake when I read the hints. Found it just where it should be after the Duh! moment while riding the bus yesterday. Weather today was much nicer and had a very enjoyable time. The ducks were a bit disappointed when the container did not contain any thing for them to eat. I tried dropping Troy's tiger but without removing about a quarter of him, he was just not going to fit the container. I guess he'll just have to go back to North America again and hopefully make it this way again.
Well after the TB I have didn't fit in Bob's place I decided to walk over and try this one. The three waypoints were easy enough to find and very cleverly hidden. The magnet seems to be missing from the utility box however. It may just be my "yank" math, but the result I get does not place the cache within the park. Oh well it was a nice warm rain (and I have not had the opportunity to walk in the rain for six months) and good exercise. If I make it back to ChCh in the future I'll try it again.
It was a nice warm evening for a walk - so off we went. Another great cache from Bear_left.

Even though it has been a while since we did a Bear_Left cache we much have done enough to recognize the style so this was actually quite straight forward to find (we can say that now without fear of any retaliation) and we loved the clue locations. The only major problem for me was actually doing the division without a calculator (yes we did this with a printout of the cache page rather than on the PPC) but thankfully Bernadette remembered her maths well enough to figure out the final hiding place (and I snuck to get the cache while she kept a lookout). I can't remember if we added a marble to this one, but we didn't remove anything. Thanks Bears for great wee cache.
Cheers Nick and Bernadette

Found this with finder_smurf at 11:10pm! It was great fun running around Mona Vale with torches. We used the corrected coordinates and they took us right to the spot. Muggles weren't an issue at this time of day and we found the cache easily. This was our first real night cache and it was great fun - must make a point of doing more. Thanks BL, yet another really innovative cache.

Hah! Sprung! Did any of the finders since 23OCT04 notice that the final coords were _10km_ off? None of them mentioned it...
The coords are fixed now, and the clue's a leeetle less of a giveaway, so you might now need to have some idea of what the waypoints were pointing to!
I've apologised to those cachers who've posted DNFs or emailed me, and I also apologise to those who just went away puzzled.
A little maintenance on Waypoint 3 was also done.

After a fantastic walk through the gardens, stopping to smell the flowers and witness photo sessions of numerous Japanese weddings, finding all the waypoints without the use of hints, and as always, marvelling at The Bears ingenuity, found that the maths didn't add up and couldn't get a set of coordinates which put us in the area.
Resorting to the hint, still did not help. Will try again after some further thought at home.

It's baaack! But in a different place, so if you've already found the waypoints, you'll need to revisit the fernery.
Back to crawling around in the bushes, looking for a remote, but environmentally sensitive, spot for GZ!

Ditto what Dalmore said...what a great chase in typical Bear fashion! Pity about the cache...at least we found the log book. Was the pink balloon from the cache. I didn't think the condom wrapper was!!!

Counting this as a find, even thopugh the cache has been burgled and all that renmains is the log-book in slightly damp form. Travelled with Trinitty - she will drop the book of for Bear_L..
As expected, clever hiding places in full view - typical B_L creativity!
The cache itself probably got found by some thrashing in the leaves as evidenced by the lifestyle wrppaers around the site. Didn't think the nights had been that warm.
left a buuterfly with the book if there is a next incarnation of the cache.
Thanks for the chase, Bears.

Second visit to finally find the cache. We needed a little help from the Bear_Left family to get the final answer (very new to this so didn't understand the final co-ords).
Georgia found the cache, her first true find.
The log book was quite damp, the cache may need to be dried out for a while.
Nice spot for a family walk, took some photos of the kids.

YAY!!! Finally found this one after having a bit of a blonde moment. Thanks to Bear_Left for his help.
This was my final cache whilst on hols in NZ.
I dragged "she who must be obeyed" and the "lovebus" (motor home) to a few caches whilst travelling around the South Island.
Actually to her credit she is not too shabby at finding waypoints and also caches.

Nice one, Bears! What a lovely place to wander around while caching, and an excellent hunt. Got first WP no probs; WP2 was pointing to residence so that one required a careful glance at a clue. Naughty little Garmin . WP3 was cool. Then got the co-ords...then went back to all WPs to re-check numbers before the D'OH moment. Smallest GSV_NFA team member found the final cache. Now that was fun - thanks Bear_Left. Just the one cache done this visit, Aloha will have to wait until next time, dammit.

It took two visits today to fill in the log. 1st visit enabled me to do the calc but when I went to visit the cache a workman was pruning trees and raking leaves < 1m from GZ. 2nd visit occurred later in the afternoon when I deviated a little from a cycling trip nearby. Just managed to fill in the log and replace the cache before two workers returned to resume raking. Phew! No exchange. Cheers.
Well done, Agent Eddie! I think this explains why we went to such lengths to disguise the waypoints. One of the reasons we liked Mona Vale so much was the immaculate groundskeeping, but that also makes putting a box under a bush a very temporary affair!
I think I may have spoke too soon. I looked up every column around waypoint 2's GZ and failed to find.
Sorry, Eddie, the coords were set with an EPE of 2m, and my GPSr today had an error of 5.5m with an EPE of 12m. Pray to the satellite gods and be reassured that the waypoint's not on private property.
Thanks red for taking over the beta testing role. At least now I know that the Bear has got it right before I step out the door.
Sorry Ed, I get the beta-testing prize this time I have been making great strides recently in getting rid of orange boxes and question marks from my nearest unfound caches. Why I had just cleared my nemesis yesterday when I return to find two more. Arrgg! So I set out in the gathering gloom last night and managed to get one of the three waypoints, but the others were not doable in the near darkness. I returned before work this morning and easily found the other two in the brighter light. Struck a little hitch and emailed PBL, a correction was made and so I attempted it again just before lunch (great having a cache so close to work!). Found it easily this time, and just as I was packing up PBL turned up, and we had quite a chat. I left nothing, but took the first finders prize - I couldn't say no with PBL standing over me! He wanted more free space left in the cache. Fun cache, and certainly up to the Bear Standard of multi-tricks! Cheers Bears. Gav. [234/FTF]
