I am, like a few others, on the watch out for archived caches that are still in place. I'd noticed this one had been found 'recently' so made it part of my trip today. Parked the bike nearby and crawled under the wire fence to make an easy find. I turned the container upside down and left it like that to prevent any more water ingress. T F T C ssarc
A long overdue trip over the hill with a bike was the aim for today and my intention was to make the most of a forecast sunny day, time on my hands to get out and about, and a plot to grab my remaining unfound caches on the Western side of Rabbit Island, as well as a 'few' others. All up was a successful day but started with a few too many DNFs; poor searching, poor GPS response, cache not there. All good and retained my Geocaching licence and some great scenery and caches today too. I was aiming to be at the Mapua end of Rabbit Island by low-tide to make a find there and as it was my timing was impeccable and I completed my loop in good time arriving back at the 'outside the gates' parked car just on 1729 (1 minute before Winter 'closing'). A great day and good to be back over this way again

A few months ago we were introduced to the statistic about the top loggers of archived caches. Since then we have spent quite a lot of time researching possible caches to find and then even more time out in the field looking for them.
This morning we needed a break from the smoke that had engulfed our home from the nearby fires so we headed for a wee walk. Just as well we went when we did as there was a fire on Rabbit Island this afternoon and the area was evacuated.
The area around GZ has had some gardening work happen recently and the hint item definitely did not have the cache at the base so we widened the search just a little and found the cache.
The lid had disintegrated after all the years out in the weather but the log book, even though it was wet was still useable.
Thanks for the cache and thanks for the smiley

Found with grandchildren after picnic today. Lots of blackberry growing fast around the area. Cache and log book very wet. TNLN TFTC
Nice walk along the track on a stunning day. Location had us stumped for a bit, but trusted the GPS and all was good. No sign of travel bug. TFTC from N. Ireland
Recommended by fellow geocacher, we are going today to Rough Island. We took our bikes for a ride, together with our doggies Xafier & Xento.
With a bit of a walk around, could do it without to many pricky thingies

Great to hear some history of this beautiful spot. YO's found GZ by standing back and looking for the clue.
*Note: Logbook wet but there was a logstrip enclosed.

A nice hike. My GPS showed the whole area underwater, so was glad to find out it was not. Horse event going on, so some stealth was required.
Good hiding spot, easily found (once the fence dealt with). Log wet, needs replacing, and no TB present either. TFTC!

Relaxing walk up the track and a quick hop and skip to the cache which was found nice and easy. As mentioned by previous cachers the log is a tad damp and would benefit from some drying out. TFTC
We did a full round on Rough Island, it's a very nice location for a short 2 hour walk.
out: Gno Spreads His Wings...for a trip to a more casino like spot
@Owner: Please note, the thick paper logbook is fully wet and needs to be replaced.

Found this today on a sunday cache mission on rabbit island. Cache was soon located. Really enjoyed walking to get this one. Thanks for the cache
Autorouting on our GPS wanted us to take a shortcut across the estuary, but we decided that having 4WD would not float us across and went via the road bridge.

On my trip around the world I first visited the States, travelled from there to Australia and continued my trip in New Zealand.
Terra Fox joined me and we made a four-week-tour in NZ driving from north to the south and back again.
Geocaching can take you to spots you would never visit and so I used my trip to find some caches in every state and country.
Thank you for this cache and greetings from Germany

Quick easy find on a beautiful summers day with one junior member . As reported before log is completely soaked . Thanks for the great story that goes with the cache.
Walked to within 20m of GZ and realised it was on the other side of the fence. Unfortunately a Muggle standing nearby meant we could not just head straight in from there. Backtracked a bit and found another approach on the other side. Heading for GZ again and spotted the hint item so made straight for it, then realised it was the wrong one. Had to walk very carefully over the top of lots of young blackberry to finally reach the cache. Much quicker on the way out as the muggle had moved on. Thanks.

found with the whanau ... cache is sodden and realluy needs some attention ... t4tc
Took us awhile as a face full of spider web hindered the first search attempt!
A long time since I have been in this area. Will check again when the tides out to see where the channel is may still be OK for fishing.

Finally had more time to pick up a couple of more caches for this month . Just love the look of the area and what a shame the ol batch isnt still around! Loved the cache and the area its in will have to come back with the boat and explore the shoreline.
Thanks for the cache.

Lovely spot, will come back again with camera when the light is better - TFTC
Catching up with logs for caches I found with Sidewaze before I got my own account. TFTC
What a brilliant spot for a bach. Must have been idyllic here before this became such a popular recreation area. Partook of a picnic while we soaked in the view and watched the birdlife, but the tranquility was spoilt by an inconsiderate dog-owner letting its mut shake itself all over us and our food. - - - Hmm. Suppose it is a dog exercise area.
Finally got to do this one, our last one on Rabbit Island until any new ones come out. Good spot on a lovely early summer day. Everything was soaking wet, so have dried it all out, replaced bags etc, and re-hidden with a bit more rain cover. Log book is fine though, so no need to check it any time soon. Must have been a great place to have a bach. TFTC.
Thanks for sharing this lovely spot with us on our weekend away with our "gnome away from home" weekend.

Nice easy find after the frustration of not finding Rough Justice. Left Piglet TB.
What a cool spot for a place to stay ... although it would have been too cool today with a wicked southerly wind to chill to the bone ! TFTC
Easy find. The nearby horses and their riders nearby created no problems. TNLNSL TFTC
Great place. The kids enjoyed the write up about the history of the family bach TFTC
what a wonderful area for a bach i can imagine the bach being there overloking the channell TFTC
What a great place for a bach - there must be some great stories to tell about all the family adventures here. TFTC (381)
Last one for the morning on Rough Island. Would have been a great spot for a bach. TFTC, Biggles.
Had to walk a way to get to general area. Then just went round the foliage until I spotted the "cachers tracks". Sure enough there she goes. Thanks.

The roads on Rabbit Island were a bit of a maze for non-locals, but in the end we found a way to get to this cache with a bit of driving and a bit of walking. The cache was wet.

A nice drive, walk and an easy find. Just wnt straight to it after reading the clue.
Out this way by mistake while doing the TES final. Found this one with Marchwoods. Left here and got back on track for the TES.
While getting lost on TES7 with the Kiwi-Explorers, just had to do a quick cache to stay positive.

Would have been a nice place for family holidays in days gone by. Had a nice morning at Rabbit Island. TNLN.
Nice location, although some lovely bugs thought so too ... had taken up a home in the cache as we discovered when we put it on our carseat to look inside! A few minutes later, cache & car were again bug free and we could enjoy the cache contents.

We were starting to waiver a bit, so skipped two nearby multis and decided on a few more easy ones. No problems here, apart from a blackberry attack.

BaldEd, in jandals, had to step pretty gingerly to get to this cache through the prickles. The cache was wet but soon dried in the sun. TNLN.
Hubby and oldest found this killing time while 3yr old snoozed and mum cycled back to Richmond. Believe they didn't have too much bother apart from GPS maps still not loaded so they had flounder round like all those without maps.
Swaps recorded at cache log book.
