Continuing on my South Australian adventure. I stopped by this cache. I parked the geomobile and took a pleasant stroll to GZ. There, I searched in likely places without luck. then I spotted a likely spot I hadn't checked. Making my way there, I stopped to have a look at something that wasn't quite sitting right. You guessed it, the cache was there. Smile I added my name tot he log, returned everything as found, then continued on my way. TFTC

Coming back with PPE and Crash 2079 after our delayed visited to Millicent.
Many a trip to Millicent had been planned, locked out or down. More recently a plan was hatched for 4 of us to attend but enroute our number dropped to 3 which meant so re shuffling and re prioritising.
We (PPE and Crash 2079) held our own event, Grumpy Over Millicent or better known in our vocabulary as GOM amongst other TLA’s of the same acronym. It was great to meet some of the locals.
Many an adventure was had with TOTTs of various types. The weather left a bit to be desired with fleeting bursts of sun but mostly wind, over cast and plenty of rain but we still managed to hoist poles and ladders and climb trees.
We realised we were heading into a new LGA for some so a better DT was picked a s a short hike up the rocks to take in the district views.
We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.

GOMs do Millicent - Day 4

After our plans to attend the Mega were cancelled by COVID, the stars finally aligned and saw **bella at waggy**, **Purplepeopleater** and myself jetting off early on Friday morning. With such a variety of targets on our list, we needed to bring an assortment of TOTTs via oversize baggage.

Last day in SA before heading for home this evening. Looking to pick off the last of the targets as well as some new LGAs on the way back to Adelaide.

Always on the lookout for T3 caches to nudge my way closer to qualifying for a nasty ACT challenge. These often result in bringing me to interesting areas and this was no different. Didn't hang around too long after signing the log, but worth the stop.

Heading down to Naracoorte for the weekend and, of course, I had to find a few caches along the way. It was mainly caches that had been placed since my last trip down this highway including one or two that had been missed on previous trips.
This was a cache that I was determined to find on my trip to Naracoorte, whether it was on the way there or on the way back. Thankfully I was making some pretty good time in heading down, so I was able to make some time for this cache. I parked in the appropriate spot and began my walk to gz, taking my time to enjoy the surrounding scenery. I had to work my way around a few dead and fallen trees in the process but eventually I was getting close. Having stopped to take a couple of photos, I finally found myself in the area of the cache, and I began my search. There were plenty of potential hiding spots for this cache, but I soon spotted something that stuck out and I soon had the cache in hand. I signed the log, replaced the cache and began my walk back to the car. I took my time in walking back, savouring the view as I went. This was an enjoyable cache to find, for its location, age and just all-round experience. Definitely worth the favourite point.
All caches were found in good condition.

We traveled to Millicent for the Geoventure 2020 Mega. In 2021. We took the house on wheels and camped at the elite area north of the oval. We arrive d on Thursday and left on Monday. We met up with lots of old friends and met new ones. We spent the first day caching with Liz and Bruce, Just A Trifle, and Wollaston. The main targets of the first day were the fish series of tree pole caches. Everyone had a go at retrieval and replacement. The second day we went after the crayfish and a few other special choices. The third day was about specific targets. A great time was had by all.
Another fun excursion to find a dot on the map Smile

First cache of the morning and out to stretch the Legs, easy enough despite it looked a lot more up. Good cords led to a quick find here and all in good order. Love the name of this cache and nice rural views.

Trip log:
When it comes to our trips for GreyHams and myself, opportunity seems to play a big part in the timings.. be it an event, sales on airfares or car hire, in this case it was my visiting SA and being there that worked so well for this one!

So it was a drive up to Adelaide to collect GreyHams from the airport and then a trip that would see us ending up in Mount Gambier in the South east of SA, close to my family holidaying nearby and conveniently located that GreyHams could fly home to his. Perfect when a plan just comes together!!!

The primary target of the trip was counties, about 21 in total and we had almost the complete opposite need of counties from each other. Of course we also targeted other caches of importance, oldies dominated the state but there was DT, virtuals, webcams, Ausmer and types. If your cache made our list it had a quality we were wanting, or as GH says, we were waiting for a ferry or a plane!

What a variation in the places we visited, from Adelaide's suburbs out into the hills, the ferry across to Kangaroo Island for the night and the many coastal regions through Victor Harbour and Goolwa. Through Murray Bridge and out into Mallee Country to Lameroo before turning and finding a great bed and meal at the Keith Hotel. Continuing South into the very bottom of the SE of SA before returning north slightly to make the plane, in time and that arrived! So much wild life through the areas and locations of interest, it was great!

Had to love the Santas through the Adelaide hills, seems that stuffing a Santa suit is an art form all of its own, and entertained us for a long time! Kayaking to an island on Kangaroo Island was fun and although the donut from Port Elliot bakery had to pass with masses already queueing... the chunky steak pie from Willunga Bakery might not have been as good as a pepper pie later but it was still damn good! Its the little things sometimes!!!

Many thanks for your cache that led us about on a varied and very enjoyable trip!

31-Dec-20
Easier walk than it looked

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This trip came together due in the best way! Aquilus1 was over in SE SA visiting family, yet had a bunch of counties unfound between Adelaide CBD and Victor Harbour, I was missing all the counties south & east of Strathalbyn. What could be better than flying over from Canberra and being picked up at ADL airport and knocking of ALL the counties all the way to Mt Gambier, where I flew out. Last minute Covid shenanigans in Sydney & Melbourne threatened to derail it, but all good.

Of course our trips are more than just counties....we have a range of targets: Oldies, webcams/virtuals, larges with challenges and D/T thrown in for fun. If you are reading this log, then this cache had some quality we were hunting (or we were waiting for ferries or planes!)

We saw such a change in countryside, from Adelaide Hills, to Kangaroo Island, up to Borrika and then down to 'the Mount'....and the Santas! I can see areas where christmas lights arent the done thing, its stuffing your own Santa and posing them in the front garden, saw some very funny examples, we were chuckling for an hour I swear.

South Australia has such a wealth of very old caches, its wonderful. We grabbed lots of oldies and are now just a single find off our Ausmer challenges (just need to get to Melbourne or Brisbane for the last).

Found at 11:10 AM GAFF1.
On our way to Millicent after staying the night just out of Tailem Bend - stopped here for a rest and trekked up to the rocks. Spotted the likely hiding spot, but didn't think it was large enough for a "regular" container so moved on to other areas - but eventually had to come back.
The views are a bit constricted as I am sure that over the years trees have grown quite a bit.
Thanks -Beaker-
Feedback: The size of the cache is not a "Regular" as shown on the cache page. It is a 400 ml Sistema which is more commonly described as a "Small"

Having recently found the Ausmer Challenge cache we have been actively seeking out caches hidden in months that we are currently missing for our Australian Jasmer. This cache was one of them and so of course we simply had to take the divert south off our main route to come and search for it. We parked up and walked directly towards Ground Zero where the cache was found after just a brief rummage around. We signed the log book, replaced as found, and then continued on up to the top to enjoy the view while at the same time being almost swept off our feet in the strong blustery wind. Thanks so much for the cache and greetings from Zimbabwe

Our final day down at Mount Gambier for the weekend, and so after some morning sinkhole scuba diving, I headed back to Adelaide via the 31 days geocache series and detouring past Kalangadoo and Naracoorte. The old commute takes a bit more time when you’re geocaching along the way.

This was a cool little hike, and I’m glad this geocache allowed me to stop here just as there was fading light before the sun got lower and set.

Made the hike and jogged to GZ. Had to look at a few spots before the cache showed itself. No TB in this cache, but I see from the physical log that it was taken two days ago haha. At least it was noted even if it hadn’t been updated online.

It sounds like that these are also known as Christmas rocks? Some history of this sight / rocks would have been nice, cheers.

On my way home after working at Mt Gambier for the week which was a lovely change of scenery & everything was still so green.

Found with FUF009.

Interesting stone formation. A shame there isn't any information boards about it and only a lightly formed track.

Based in Meningie last night we were heading home the long way.
This weekend's mission was to get to 10,000 finds.
Initially the plans were to do the ROTF series, but a combination of not realizing that I was so close to 10,000, plus not wanting it to be a boring power trail cache for my big number AND the trail was on such a bad road with awfully incorrect hints and coords, so we abandoned the original plan at about 3pm and concentrated on just seeing the sights and finding what was along the way. It was much more fun.

The end of the weekend had me at 10,010 finds and quite pleased with the rest of my weekend.
I had found 5 types of geocache (trad, multi, mystery, letterbox and Earthcache) and seen some amazing wildlife and scenery. Basically the ideal caching trip.

Find # 6691

Found with sharkiefan

Headed over the border into South Australia for a June Long Weekend caching trip to Meningie. To hit the ROTF trail (but we abandoned that after only 96 finds on it) Oh and to help sharkiefan make it to the big 10,000th smiley.
Today we were heading off back home via the back roads and to go via Mundulla as there is a nice cluster of caches to grab here.

It was a bit of a hunt for the track before a scramble over the rocks. Cache was found quite quickly as coords were spot on and cache was in a logical place.
