The cache was still there – but decidedly hors de combat! (See pics)
It wasn’t the flood that did for it – it was the clean-up afterwards.
It seemed unwise to replace it here or too nearby, so I’ve decided to archive it and re-birth it nearby as a traditional.
That way there is no confusion about whether previous finders can log a find again – go for it!

Thanks for the report.
Land of droughts and flooding rains, eh!
This cache must have been hidden in the driest looking spot of any we've placed!
Will replace as soon as I can.

Had a good look around the area, but it looks like the latest torrential rains might have washed it away. All of the ground looked like water had been flowing strongly over it, as all the vegetation was pushed to one side. Had a good look around the likely hiding spot, even for quite a way aways (including downstream), but to no avail.
Thank you for enlightening us as to why it was named this - I have always found it very frustrating when you are given the name of a place because it obviously has an unusual story or meaning behind it, but then they don't bother giving you anything further - TFTC
Worked out final GZ and drove to within 10m. Gingerly walked across in thongs and signed log. Hot and windy today surprise ,surprise
Found on our trip up to/ back from Whyalla.

Good opportunity to stretch the legs on a long hot journey from Lincoln to Pirie.
There was a webby cocoon looking thing under the cache, with something leggy moving about underneath. So moved cache left a little, still same coords.
Took turtle earings & chinese money coin.
Left earplugs & dinosaur.

Easy find once the coordinates were worked out. Thanks for the cache. No little surprises sleeping with the cache. Tuccamore
I found part one on the way to EP Field Days four days ago, now part two on the way home. As I am logging this later I have forgotten what when in and out of the cache. Thanks for providing a diversion on my journey Bunya.
Last time I passed here I didn't have the cache notes. No such problem this time & I soon found myself parked within 10m of GZ and a baby brown snake that was curled up next to it
Fortunately iy didn't like all the noise I was making and took off quickly so that I could grabb the geocoin out of the cache and sign the log. But it did get the adrenalin pumping for a second there!
Cheers, TFTH

As I'd found water in the cache on my last visit I decided to replace the box.
Swapped geocoins.
Swapped geocoins.
Found the cache at 6pm. Gee! I am enjoyed work out the coordinate and nice easy multi, no swap expects calling card. Drop: Parent of SAM Geocoin. Thank you for organise the cache and hunt.
Logging in my Denmark geocoin before its long trip home.
It'll probably be a bit greener and less flat once it gets there!

An easy find really…
“Long Sleep†??? Doesn’t that mean “dead?
I Remember someone saying once that it might have been named from the number of accidents on this stretch… going to sleep because it’s a boring road (or almost home and relaxing) and going to sleep whilst driving = a very long sleep…

Thanks for the challenge!

Found cache had some water in it - not sure why as it seemed to be well sealed.
Log book was OK in its glad bag.
Dried out swaps. I'll upgrade container on next visit.

First of three caches today (other caches being: MCP, Truckz). Found 20/02/06 (20th February) @ 12:15pm by Paul (Team Stargazer). No time for sleep for me as I'm on my way back to Adelaide after spending the weekend in Whyalla. Didn't realise it was a multi at first and spent a little while searching waypoint 1 ... maybe I was still asleep! [|)]
Easy find in the end - once I woke up!
Took: Jeep
Left: Yellow speedboat
Cheers Bunya

After getting the coords wrong last visit cache was easy to find with the correct ones this time. Rain and stormy clouds were fast approaching so a quick exchange before proceeding to Whyalla for a shopping spree.

If memory serves me correctly it looks like the sign has had a face lift in the last 12 months!
We needed a quick power-nap at the end of the Port Bonython Road coz I was a bit drowsy but then with renewed vigour it was a hop, skip and a jump to the cache.

A nice break on the way home. Glad it's not too hot yet. Swapped keyrings and took Geocoin.

Damn - had downloaded the GC but not the cluesheet. Thrashed around like an untrained seal in knee-high weeds at the base of the sign. Coincidentally I did notice the brick structure across the other side of the road with the distance on it -and I can even remember it - not that its much help to me now I am back home! As a newbie to this caper this was a good intro to a multi cache, and the wisdom of ensuring one has the clues to hand. I'll get it next time.
I remember my Dad telling me the story of a local(PT.Lincoln) identity falling asleep and how the area got its name. That would be back in the 50's. Anyway, one of a few easy finds this trip. Even working out the coords wasn't too hard.
Nice stop off on the way down the Eyre peninsula. Wibble 2 tried to guess the final location while Wibble 1 did the calculations - he wasn't too far off! TNLNSL.

Great story linked to the cache.
Only took a few seconds to write the GZ down and put it into the GPSr, and just as quick to find it.

Didn't have much chance without cache notes, was just after dark and cold, so didn't hang around long.
Enjoyed the maths and the multi.
Thanks

The ten million vehicles must have wondered what was going on seeing all the crazy people walking around looking down as they sped past on their way round to Pt Agutta. Thankfully no one stopped. Left the dog we took at Happy Dive Face to guard the cache and took an ant with us. Thanks for an interesting time. (It wasn't too easy getting back across the road to our cars either!)
Found by lambchops without a GPS, how easy is that
Took Nothing and Left a Kangaroo
We had to be careful crossing the road as there were millions of cars and trucks going to Port Agutta.
Thanks Bunya for another nice cache.

Last cache of the day on a long drive back from Coffin Bay to Adelaide. By the time I had the GPs out and had done the calculations (wrongly as it happens, as I was in so much of a rush I didn't read it carefully enough)Lambchops had it in hand, without using a GPS! TNLN. Thanks Bunya.
Last cache for the day on our Coffin Bay Easter weekend trip.
I read out details and Ms ParrotHead did the calculations.
Short walk latter I had the cache in hand.

I have three Long Sleep Plain stories.
1975. This was the first location that I had a rock come through a windscreen. One second it was clear glass the next it was a heap of diced glass. This happened about 100m north of the cache.
1977. Returning to Porter Guster one evening a roo hopped out in front of us and got well an truly cleaned up. This was around the cache location. In fact I think the roo was probably hiding behind the little concrete block. Broke the windscreen that time too.
1981. Heading north on I pulled out to pass a truck towing a Highways Dept caravan. As I pulled along side the van, the left side wheel come off the van and headed into the bush. That is an entire 22" tyre, rim, hub and brake set. If it had been the right side wheel I would have been history. This time I was about 500m north of the cache location on a motorcycle.
Actually my father always told us the bullocky story when we asked about the name.
Very neat cache. I had me tricked for a while until I looked a little more carefully. Thanks for the memories.

2nd last for the day before heading out to Fitzgerald Bay to meet the other Coffin Bay caching group who had left Adelaide later and were looking for somewhere to camp before heading on next morning. Easily calculated and easily found. Could have driven to it though Took a caterpillar and left a frog. Thanks Bunya.
Cleared things up with diesel69.

I spent 15 minutes searching for a container near the sign before giving up, guess thats what happens when your searching for a multi that should really be classified as a puzzle cache with no cache notes at hand. Will try to take notes next time.
When checking the cache, noted log book had a find not logged on geo.com: 6/12/04 Xena & Damon
Grabbed TB Goin’ Back to School as it’s been left here for a while and school started a couple of days ago!

Thought I’d drop TB Back to School of here. Don’t we all Long Sleep at school sometimes Mr Astro.
Driven past here at least 1000 times. Now I’ll smile at this one . I’ll remember not to fall asleep here.
Took clamps, left whistle.
Thanks for the story (and cache) Bunya
Clear skies
TeamAstro.
Found by Team Piggy. Had to wait for a big Train to putt on by ! But then an easy find.
Thanks Bunya.
Thanks Bunya.
Another geocaravan friendly cache - we like. Found no problem. Windy out here on the plains today. Took TB and left set of clamps. Thanks Bunya.
Lucky!!!
I too was in Whyalla the same time as Langy but I had arrived there on Wednesday night.
I had the cache box all ready to go too!!! And was going to place a cache at that very sign!
And.......DAMN!!!
Was going to cache our way back to Adelaide but unfortunately a wheel bearing failed in Emmas Geo-Vitara and needed fixing delaying our departure by 3 1/2 hours and meaning we had to B-Line it to Adelaide to get my son home to his mum..

Nooooooooooooo! I just got home from Whyalla - now I will have to wait until next year - why didn't I use my mobile to check for new caches before I left this morning ... why? Why? WHY?
TB Cockroach ready to set out for Eulo (southern Qld) to pay homage to Destructo, champion racing cockroach.
