Logs
15 November 2024 12:22 dalerious and I were here on another mission today. We were in the area test driving a car we were looking at buying. We were not due at South Morang till 1pm so I opened the map to see what was around to keep us occupied and I saw this cache which, when I visited it the first time, was not there. So today was the day to make amends.Thank you muzza for replacing the cache which hopefully means it will stay active for us grateful finders for many years to come.
Today my husband and I made a quick trip to South Morang Post Office for him to tend to some urgent business.Afterwards there was time for me to do some geocaching, so I chose a short walk in Middle Gorge Park to search for this cache. Last time we were walking in this area we saw a tiger snake on the path so I have been reluctant to come here alone. We had a very enjoyable walk in the bush and didn't see any reptiles or mammals. Close to GZ my husband stayed on the path and I wandered into the bush until I eventually located the cache, in a spot that I had checked once or twice.Thank you Muzza for this cache, and keeping it alive. I read some of the earlier logs and noted that 'maccamob' found this cache one week after it was hidden, nearly 20 years ago.
A steep walk to GZ, luckily making the quick find. Thanks for the cache Muzza, a nice walk on this sunny Sunday
dalerious and I made our way to Melbourne and this is the first cache on our list.Made our way to gz and saw where we needed to be. Made sure by checking the hint and made a thorough search of the stump, bit unfortunately we did not come across the black tube.We dug around in the stump and looked around in the fallen log.I apologise if it is there and we missed it Muzza. Thanks for bringing us here anyway .
Not found, but did find signs it may have been disturbed. Ie a small action figure just where the cache should have been. Could the river have got that high and flooded it? Owner maintenance perhaps? Paul and Brenda.
Lucky find using the clue, but slippery and steep off the track on damp grass. I left my pen behind so included a picture of the log: David
Cache container was not damaged, but was wet, and the log has been removed. I have now replaced it with a 100 ml plastic test tube, with a log of write in the wet paper.

Hi there Muzza,
It looks like this cache might need some attention, as one or more seekers have indicated there is some sort of issue. The recent logs may contain more details about what sort of issues are evident.
The cache has been [**temporarily disabled**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=235), so as to remove it from search listings and discourage people from visiting this location, until the issues/s can be addressed.
**You do need to respond in some way within 14 days,** so others know you are on top of it, as well as indicating exactly what is happening with this placement - please don't let a lack of communication scuttle this listing.
#What you need to do:-#
You have a number of choices so pick the one that applies from this handy list:-
- **Check On The Cache** - once checked, place an Owner Maintenance log and then enable the cache.
- **Place A Write Note Log** - indicating a date when you expect it will be restored.
- **Adopt Out or Archive** - depending on whether you want it kept or for it to disappear.
Full details for each of the above choices can be found at [**GEOCACHE MAINTENANCE**]( https://wiki.groundspeak.com/display/GEO/Victoria) on the Regional Policies page.
You might wonder what happens if you don't pick one of the above. Well, when the cache is next checked by a Reviewer, if the issue has not been addressed, or there is no acknowledgment as requested above, it will be assumed the cache has been abandoned.
It would be far better if you decide, so please do something before then. Please don't send an email but instead follow the information/advice posted above.

Found this cache after a bit of bush bashing down the embankment. Got to GZ and found the container open inside and the log beyond signable. Closed it back up but it was soaking wet and needs a new log. Otherwise great hike down here, TFTC
Looking at my Ozma grid & this cache was a certain need to find. It took a bit to find, but very happy to uncover & claim. These dates are falling like dominoes.
Whittlesea Mega trip Day 1.
Today I am heading to Whittlesea for the Mega grabbing some caches along. I pick up 6 today.

The Green Geckos and Muggle65 join me again today for lots of laughter and caching.
I found 23 today.
Sorry for the generic log
Thanks Brislions

Way too hard to get down, trees covering the way and a wasp nest nearby. Please relocate to an easier location than the current one. Thanks
First find and in such a beautiful spot. The pen had run out so I will return with a new one over the weekend. TFTC
Well second time out here being so close to home found the area and got stung by a wasp on leg so left without retrieving climbed back up hill hobbled back to parking and got stuck in horrific traffic from a crash near by sorry sad day we won’t be back to do this one. My leg hurts bad
I was out caching with Echidna44. This cache was a green dot amongst a sea of yellow, and needed to be found. We checked out the path to the cache, and deemed it to be do-able. At GZ there was a nest of wasps buzzing around, so I was very careful not to annoy them. The cache was retrieved, but the log was sopping and unable to be signed, so we took photos instead.
Out with BoabTree, we were caching in and around the Hawkstowe Park area.
Our first objective was to find a safe place to park, then onward to GZ.
BEWARE a wasp nest at GZ.
Once there the cache was found, but the log was sodden, so a photo was taken as proof. Thanks muzza.

After falling in love with geocaching very recently i decided it was time to buy some proper hiking shoes, this was my first little test of them and they are wonderful.... now onto the cache, the area is a hidden away beauty as soon as you get far enough into the track all the sound of the traffic stops and you left with the sounds of the river and birds.
A word of warning to anyone attempting this cache next, it seems that a family of wasps also really enjoyed the the hiding location and has turned it into their home, i was able to retrieve the cache with no damage to myself or without disturbing them but if you are anaphylactic maybe give this one a miss for now

Being 'allowed' to go now 25km allowed us to have a bit of a hike around Plenty Gorge with some mates. River was up a fair bit and was a good day. Nice easy find and thanks for the cache.

Steep descent but not overly dangerous. Clearly a good hiding spot judging by its age. Took ten cents and left Captain America.
Back to complete the caches on this amazing gorge. I hadn't realised just how big, lovely and rugged it was. I enjoyed following the trails and locating this one. How many odd socks do you have?
As it was morning it was quite cool. Dodging those trail bikes was a bit scary at times. They come on so fast.
Once finished at the gorge I drove around to the 'Middle Gorgeous Views' and was taken by those cave holes there. It was a popular walking track and passed a few people too.
Bees/ wasps at GZ made me move along quickly. I didn't wait to see what variety they were.
Thanks for the fun muzza

The views are spectacular.
I wasn't prepared for the last 30 meters, in that my shoes were not the best for this kind of terrain.

Geomutt was totally bored with the local park and was pleading to go somewhere a bit different - but not too far away!! Hmm, we've always meant to come to this neck of the woods so thanks to muzza for the perfect excuse on a beautiful autumn day to wander just that little bit further and explore this gorgeous area!
Hats off to Muzza - I found about ten of his hides and they've consistently been scenic and entertaining. I'd never been to this spot before today and it is scenic, stunningly scenic even once you mentally filter out the high voltage power lines. Ah the serenity! Anyway it was a good walk down to GZ and the hiding place stood as THE place to hide a cache, so all up it was a good afternoon. Thanks Muzza
*Found on the 16 Feb 2020 @ 12:43 pm.*
*Cache find # 10727.*
I headed out today with biggles1024 to find a few caches.
Today was mainly about a Wherigo cache, COTY nominated caches and members of the first 500 Victorian caches with a couple of others thrown in for good measure.
Another old muzza cache, 2 weeks in a row but as we were close by how could we say no.
A nice little stroll along the trail and then down we went to find GZ, once there I was looking but not seeing but then finally, there it was sitting right there in front of me.
The log was signed and we made our way back up and out to the car.
**Thanks to muzza for placing this cache.**

Find #4365
Traditional Find #2734**
I setout with SteMicMitSar to complete a recently published Wherigo as well as find other caches of interest, in particular those that have been nominated for the 2019 COTY Awards and also caches published during or before 2005. Another great old cache. A short walk and a quick find.
**Thank-you to Muzza for placing this geocache**

Thanks to Ron.haha, I now know that the fires were at least 2 km.s from the cache, and that the area around GZ is now back open.
I have been told that this area has been affected by fire and is currently closed.
I will go and check once the area is open again, whenever that occurs.
If anyone finds out when it re-opens, please let me know.

Whew! That heat makes it hard.
A nice area to visit after letting the brown snake slither past us. Had this oldie on the list so great to grab this after days climbing with Pacman, Anikano and Tritonz.
Thanks Muzza!

Missed this cache on our first trip to plenty gorge. This was the last pesky one left over on the map. Area now cleared out! Tftc. Great day out in the sun with Pac-Man Tritonz and Jacko83
Heading back to town after a big day of epic caching with great mates we managed to pick up a few more caches that didn't require TTC gear.
We had an enjoyable walk to gz , taking in the various views and not to mention a slithery stick.
Thanks muzza for the oldie.

Thanks muzza for the oldie.
We somehow missed this one when caching out the entire Plenty area earlier this year.
But how could we leave this oldie GC6 unfound?
After some tree climbing today we took the little walk to GZ. Just as I started down the path a brown snake slithered past towards the road. We held back, found ways around, and then the snake unexpectedly darted back across the path towards the thicker bush.
So on we went, with mid-20 temps feeling more like 40s.
An easy find at GZ which is what you want when you're starting to feel tired.
While taking in the views I couldn't but help thinking of Dale's words in *The Castle*:
"Dad, he reckons powerlines are a reminder of man's ability to generate electricity."
Thanks Muzza.

An unexpected trip almost to Melbourne as dalerious wanted Ausmer caches.
So we loaded up Harry Saturday morning, drove and cached until we pitched the tent on the side of a road Saturday night[|)][xx(][|)], slept[^] and then cached Sunday until it was time to head back to Shepparton.
20 caches were found, including the 3 oldies [^] that dalerious particularly wanted to find
Awesome area , we had a lovely wander into GZ and smiled at the views all the way there and back [^]

Found with locus cache @10:00am.
This weekend was all about chasing Jasmer caches. Well for me it was anyway as locus cache's calendar looks a lot healthier than mine. By the time we headed for home however, I had filled 6 more slots including 3 from 2001 among the 20 caches we found without a single DNF. [^]
This was our very first cache for the weekend that we travelled over 135km to get to. With views and scenery like this to kick us off, we knew we were in for a ripper weekend.
Cache and contents found in good condition in the obvious spot. [8)]
TFTC muzza. I now have Oct'04 scratched off my Jasmer dance card.

Found this one in the pouring rain and of course I had to get to it by the most difficult means possible. Cache found in good order and surprisingly dry! The trip back up the hill was much easier. Pretty spot. Tftc
I eventually found this cache under the large fallen tree. I have replaced it in the stump as per the hint. I had a nice walk on this cold clear winters morning. Lovely bush setting. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.
Ilukaperi and I were on our now regular Sunday caching run, this time our sites were set on Plenty Gorge, because there are plenty of geocaches, plenty of hikes and plenty of GORGEous views (there was also PLENTY of fun, laughter, dad jokes and resounding groans).
Always nice to get a muzza cache.
Quite a nice walk in which Ilukaperi and I really enjoyed. A bit of off track stuff, but not much, just enough to ensure that the hide is muggle proof.
And I actually made the find too, which I secretly REALLY enjoy.
On the way back we met an old guy coming out of the bushes who was mumbling something about weed. He asked us how far the track went and we told him. He went off mumbling still.
All adds to the adventure.

Nice little place. A bit dry at the moment so will have to come back when we've had some rain to enjoy the flowing water. TFTC
With simianking and what a beautiful view. I keep on saying this but I never realised how many beautiful places are right near your backyard. Thanks for bringing me here.

This was my target cache for the day. It was going to tick 2 boxes, 1. Fill a "found by calendar date" and 2. A "Hidden by Month". This was my first time here and I was glad I came for the nice short walk and enjoyed the scenery. For a cache that's almost 14 Years old and has only 1 favorite point, well I'm giving it it's 2nd Favorite point. These old caches are usually in great places and this one is no exception.
Thanks Muzza

Found after searching around ground zero and reading the hint. Fortunately the climb back up wasn't as bad as expected. Great views. TFTC.
Yep the last 30m or so is a doozy, Sir Edmund Hillary would be proud. Now for the climb out.... I'm glad I got this one before I'm a year older in two days. SLTN Left my tag. TFTC
This gorge is a significant geological site. Coming along Gorge road to the lookout and car park you go through a basalt cutting. However if you continue east on Gorge Road you go through a sandstone cutting the other side of the river. The soil types also change from a black cracking clay to a yellow clay.
The river marks the boundary of the western lava flow a million years ago. The rock on the eastern side is much older Silurian sandstone (~ 400 million years). it is this sandstone on the Eastern side of the river you can see from the cache.

Nice little spot, had to dig a little as some bark had fallen over the cache
This cache and area took me back to my childhood, when we were kids we would ride our bikes up from Reservoir to fish in the river just 10 metres from the cache. Thanks Muzza I loved going back to the area it was a great cache to get.

This one is easier than the other cache nearby. Good thing too, dark clouds are rolling in! Bring/leave a pencil, the pen here is dead. Happy hunting.
I am taking a week off to go on a caching holiday. My plans for the second day was to find all the caches within Mt Dissapointment bushland. Though I had a late start after finding a D5T5 and thus didn't finish until after dark.
During the trip I saw quite a few wallibies, a couple of horses, a head on car crash (no one was hurt at least), I heard a few deer honking, and other than caches I found a hiking pole and a fellow cacher's personal log stamp.
After leaving the area I had to find some more caches on the way South in order to reach the 270 finds in a day milestone which I just managed!
After all that my car needs a good wash!
Thanks for all the caches!

Great location for cacheing as I get tired of going to playgrounds looking for containers.fav from me.
TFTC! Great hiding place. But the pen inside may need a replacement as it is very low on ink. Other than that, it was great!
I kinda worked up the hidden place but let the kids to go for a while looking just to have a bit of time to enjoy the views!!!! #loveit
Team Omam from the Netherlands has only one aunt left. And as she will have her 100th birthday early February, we decided to join the birthday party. But …., she lives in Sydney Australia! An excellent opportunity for us to explore this continent once again and find Geocaches along the way. We will do a 3.5 weeks trip! At places where we will stay for a few days (Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Darwin), we will organize Meet and Greet events. We will try to find mainly caches with high favorite points, caches from 2000 and 2001, earth caches, webcam caches, virtuals and letter box hybrids.
A wonderful little park that I would never have found on my own and a great day to visit it. TFTC.
Out for a mini caching run this morning in the South Morang area, anywhere in the north to avoid the rain that was bucketing down in the Vermont area.
A peaceful valley, you would hardly know the main road runs by just up the hill. Quick find. Cache in good order.
Thanks for placing this cache Muzza

Beautiful spot, TFTC.
Kids were tired and grumpy after the walk, so left them on the track while I wandered the last few metres to the cache.

Found at 1:06 PM with sunhalo. Came down to Melbourne for work and to attend the Grand Final between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn Hawks. Despite the disappointing result yesterday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, there is always caching to keep spirits up. I had short listed a number of caches in the greater Melbourne area to help me get closer to completing my Difficulty & Terrain and Jasmer challenges, as well as some Old School geocaches. Sunhalo decided to join me to take advantage of the warm but windy weather and explore some other parts of the State. We drove north from the city towards Reedy Creek to attempt Melbourne's 1st geocache and add another Old School cache to my finds. From there it was on to Middle Gorgeous Views to fill a hole in my Jasmer challenge grid. We parked the car at the car park and made our way along the designated tracks. As we were walking down the hill, a snake slithered across the track about 5 metres in front of us, which stopped us dead in our tracks, until it had disappeared into the bush on the other side. Once at Ground Zero, it was an quick find and we soon had the Cache In Hand. We Signed the Log and Took Nothing, Left Nothing. Next off we continued back towards Melbourne to pick up Adelaide Mountain, Around the Bend, Unexpected and Bounce on the creek. Thanks For The Cache muzza and for keeping this old one alive for as long as you have!
Finding someone camping at the nearby cache , I wandered down to this, few slips on way down to gz, TFTC
More scrambling down and up the slope with Funsize Manor on his first day of caching. Definitely bush bashing involved in this one. TFTC
I prepared myself today for a nice easy walk up to the train station in south morang but hubby had a diffrent plan and took me to plenty middle gorge! lucky i had my hiking boots in the back of the car a lovely walk on the path..took us awhile to figure out where to get of the track but small walking paths created by others gave it a bit away. We used the hints which were very helpful. Hubby spotted it first this time while i was to focussed on possible snakes around...still hate them! Took a token...left a token...lovely cach but could use a bit tlc. Thanks for the cache!
Enjoyed the walk to this one and had the whole area and great views to myself. The path around the park could do with a bit of work but that has nothing to do with the co. The park is a fantastic place to visit (this was my first time here) and does has great views not just along the river but also of the suurounding areas. Thanks muzza for the cache and for bringing me here.
After struggling through shoulder high wet grass, prickles and falling into a wombat hole on the way to the other cache here, I decided that climbing to higher ground might be a good idea. I could hardly believe my eyes when at the top of the climb I found a path! Not sure how accurate the coordinates or my phone was under the tree cover, but after a short bit of looking around the cache-hide was not too hard to spot (even if it was positioned a little differently to expected). On the way back I followed the path and realized that I should actually have parked at the top park, so still had a bit of a walk back town to the river level car park. TFTC and a reason to visit this nice spot not far from suburbia.
Found it on a nice gentle walk with a bit of a struggle to get to GZ where my GPSr was a bit,out but the hint helped.
Thanks for bringing me there.

Found this afternoon, this one had been on the radar for a little while and today finally made the attempt, took the track into this hide, certainly is a gorgeous spot and thought it was such a great spot left behind our brand new pathtag, first set free in the wild for the next finder to enjoy.
Another one we've been meaning to get for a while. A nice trek down to it.

Nice walk on an overcast day. Easy find but rather steep and slippery walk down to GZ. Nice area to walk in!! These 2 done now.
Started looking in the wrong spot at first then looked up a bit and found the cache, TFTC
Nice walk not far off the track. Probably not great to do in summer (fire risk). TFTC
