I have certainly enjoyed discovering these parkland and the history of the area. TFTC
Such a great area to explore and a rich history in the area. Did the short walk worked out the coordinates and located the cache safe and sound and in great order. Stamped my name in the log and made the lovely walk back through this reserve to my vehicle. Ah the serenity. TFTC
dalerious and I were in Melbourne on the eve of our marriage and we enjoyed putting together some caches of vintage just like us.This was one such cache, and we couldn't help but imagine the sound and smell of a Steam Train winding it's way atop this high perch.A straight forward multicache led us to a cache found in good condition. Thank you muzza.
We enjoyed the history lesson attached to the cache and after figuring out what a cutoff staunchion looked like, catnap777 and I were off like a shot making our way along the embankment until we had the numbers that gave us the cache which was found in good condition.TFTC muzza. P.s. This ripper old cache was found on the last day before cat' and I wed. We are now husband and wife.
Great little wander on a crisp afternoon. Somehow I missed counted but managed to re-project and find the cache TFTC and adventure.
#100 25/04/2024 @3:56pmMilestone 100 for me! A great little walk past some interesting railway history.TFTC
Traveling and geocaching. With the clear hint and the precise coordinates, the information was easily gathered and the cache was quickly found. TFTC! Greetings from China.FP for my first physical cache in the Southern Hemisphere!1 TB in.
Combining this cache with the AdLab and retracing the old tracks. Quick find at GZ.
This is one of the first multis have attempted on my own and I was so pleased to have had success!! I spent a few minutes looking in the wrong spot first though! TFTC
I collected the required information for this multi sometime ago but there was too many muggles at the final GZ to conduct a inconspicuous search for the cache. Fast forward to today, I had the area to myself. A very quick find was had.
I'm surprised there is remnants of the line remaining after all these years.

31,998. Found with minniek during our Great Victorian County Hunt this long weekend. Our aim is to finish off Victoria - minniek needing 14 and myself 7.
We left Canberra after work on Friday and stayed overnight at a familiar free camp at Oxley Reserve. By lunchtime we hit Melbourne proper and next on the list was 'Darebin'. This was a very convenient cache to use as our back up cache for the County with the added bonus of it's age. Quick find once at GZ. Stamped the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next cache on our list.
Thanks muzza !!

Headed away this long weekend with fitzy_1965 for the Great Victorian County hunt. Our mission is to finish off Victoria.
We drove to Oxley Reserve and stayed there Friday night so that we could get an early start. LOL How we managed to sleep in, I do not know but off we set to end up in Sale for the night.
Today we managed to tick off 7 of the 14 counties I needed.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. And thanks to all the COs who continue to help us reach our goals.

Needing a multi for the day, we targetted this one. Combined with an AdLab and a trad, we made our way along, until reaching gz, where I retrieved the TB coin to take to this morning's event.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, Muzza

On our way to the Welcome the newbies event and we thought we should locate a few caches on the way. With a new adventure lab in the area, we combined a multi, trads and the lab together in one.
We followed the path and collected the information needed. Then after a waypoint of two we arrived at GZ and OzHockeyChick made the find.
Thanks Muzza for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

So the debate was on, grab this multi or flee for the adventure lab FTF??? Grabbed this one, time will tell about the FTF. Admin duties done and
#2233 - 1.50pm
I'm rarely out this way, but a FTF drew me here today. I had a little time to kill afterwards, and since I had the Geo-Pup with me, I looked for something interesting nearby that involved a little walk.
This cache happens to be one of Victoria's first 500, and I'm keen to see as many of these old cache as I can. And the multi element was perfect for my four legged companion.
We arrived at the listed coordinates and read through the cache description. I noted the history and plotted the landmarks that were mentioned to get a better idea of the old rail line and station. Fortunately, we didn't have to visit all those points.
A straightforward stroll ensued which added a new word to my vocabulary - staunchion. It's a little long for Scrabble, but I'm sure it will appear in some of my future logs, lol.
After reaching the end of the counting zone and having calculated GZ, our first muggle appeared. Having a cute furball with me certainly provides the perfect smokescreen! I let her guide me aboit until the muggle was gone and then I commenced the search. I must confess this simple hide eluded me for a while. I discovered it in the third and final candidate hide option.
The cache was in perfect condition. And as I was signing in, with the cache open and visible on the ground, the second muggle encounter happened. (There were only a few muggles in the area, but their timing was exquisite!) I pretended the cache was a treats box for the Geo-Pup and tried to do some training. But the Geo-Pup was too interested in the muggle and the muggle-pup for obedience lessons. The muggles shared a friendly smile with me (as dog owners often do) and when they had disappeared around the corner, the cache was quickly returned to its hide.
Thanks so much, Muzza. Geo-Pup and I enjoyed this little saunter. I got to claim a first 500 cache, learn some local history and discover a new word. What more could I want?!

This ended up being trickier than it should be because we missed one of the staunchions...so we found it super tricky until we did a recount and got the right coords. Much easier after that.
Harvey said he loved the little race car that was in the box, and we've left some extra treasures as it only had the one.

Thanks for the information about the area. I love the parks but really wish the rail lines still existed.
Found it after following the clues from the starting position. Fun for the kids once they figured out what a cutoff staunchion was.
Great spot that we have previously never visited in our 5km lockdown zone! This little multi delighted us. Interesting history, picturesque walk, and a lot of fun for our little GeoKids counting the staunchions. TFTC.
This being my 600th multi I could wax loquacious about beginnings and endings of: caching, train lines, community facilities. I could also reference the duality of the concept of beginnings and endings and how some of the most important ideas in our society involve a binary concept but I won't. Sometimes a cache is just a cache with a bit of an interesting backstory, sought out for it's age and because the seeker is slowly filling his multi calendar.
Thanks for keeping this one going, M. I'm sure you're aware that it's one of the Vic 500.

Somehow or other I made this harder than I should have but the clue helped me locate what I wanted. Nice to have another multi changed to a smiing face.
Thanks muzza

Dark clouds were gathering when I started my walk to the GZ, but it remained dry till after I'd walked to the final coords and signed the log.
Thanks for the cache muzza.

That was fun. I had been here a few weeks ago for the nearby lab cache but on that occasion not had time to come across and do the multi. Today I was early for a tennis match at Macleod tennis club and so to warm up I took a walk across to Harry Pottage reserve to complete this multi. How interesting this was to see where the old railway line and station used to be. I just had time to finish this before heading back across to play tennis. Thanks muzza for placing and maintaining this cache.
Electric scooters in the car with AL's thr target for Spiffy- and I plus a few other caches en route. And we milked every last drop of power out of the scooters with both flashing red when we finished.
Took a while to get to the correct spot for counting but all worked well after that.
Thanks to muzza for the placement and fun.

Today we headed out to do a few Adventure Lab caches on the scooters and while we were there we would also look for whatever else we came across. It was a great afternoon out and about because the light rain stopped just when we started before lunch. We got a little too far from where we parked and I ended up having to manually push the scooter the last 1.5km back to the car because I didn't realise how much downhill riding we had done and misjudged the returning distance and had my first red battery light situation. I survived though so everything was ok.
We came in from the wrong end of this one but didn't matter the counting was still the same. Pretty bumpy path our poor little small wheeled scooters but we got there.
Thanks muzza for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

I was in the area and I checked the map to see what caches were around when I noticed this multi cache and not Only was it a multi but a Muzza, end of the line multi.
Well I just had to stop and give it it a go as I do find caches like this very interesting.
I headed off along the trail, spotting what I was needing to spot and then worked out where GZ would be.
I headed over and quickly spotted the cache and added My stamp to the nice new logbook.
**Thanks to Muzza for placing this cache.**

Unfortunately a DNF for us yesterday (Sorry, I’m a day late). Pretty sure we were in the right spot and double checked our counting on the way back to the car.
Maybe our eyes weren’t working properly.

A touching piece of history. Mrs Ebenezer worked on a National Archives Gallipoli Centenary project 5 years ago, which involved digitising the service records of First Convoy WW1 returned servicemen, many of whom would have been transported to Mont Park along this very rail line in parlous states of health & distress. Every file told a heart-wrenching story, and most of them are freely available to view on the National Archives website. Alas, we came up empty-handed cache-wise, despite being absolutely certain we were looking in the right spot. TFTC muzza, and the historical reminder.
This one got the better of me today. Thanks for the hunt & getting me out of the house muzza
This one has been on the list for a long time but I always thought it would need a bit of time, which is true. Really enjoyed the history here and following the old railway, incredible to think that was once here. Once the coordinates were solved, a very satisfying close location popped up, which was a nice feeling as sometimes even the simplest of maths seems to give me problems with these things! Nicely done and a favourite point from us.
A pleasant walk with ozlsn, counting stanchions led to the correct coordinates and no trouble! Cache was very visible, so tucked it in a bit further. Left a swappable. TFTC!
This multi was a bit tricky until I worked out what "staunchions" meant! From then on it was full steam ahead! TFTC
Found the clue for this cache last week when I was riding through, but was heading downhill and needed to keep going as I was running late. Came back passed GZ tonight and made the quick find and dropped off a TB. Great history of the local area. Thanks.
Latrobe has a good network of bush land tracks surrounding it, which is a credit to the planners of the day. Old railway lines make for good walking, and this was no exception on a sunny morning. Noted the clues to puzzlemania 5 and will try to crack this one shortly. Thanks Muzza for the cache
I worked out what I was meant to be looking for, counted, looked for the cache and found it. This is a lovely bushy area.
We've eyed off this multi for some time now, for both its historical interest and the clues to Puzzlemania5. We came here a couple of Christmases ago, on our way to relatives, but it was pouring rain and we were late so we didn't even attempt it.
This Christmas things were different. We had already visited the rellies for an early Christmas and thought a nice multi to walk off lunch was the way to go, before we headed west back home.
Who would have known this old railway was here. This is exactly why we love caching.
A nice little walk, calculations done and cache soon in hand. All in good condition.
TFTC and the history muzza. And Merry Christmas to you too.

Drove MIL to a party in Eltham with the deal I get to go caching while she is there. Rain has held off too: double win
Chasing the oldies tonight and a pleasant walk with crickets chirping for this one. Bit of suburban nature walk - thanks Muzza!

I wasn't sure I'd be able to find this one as I had no idea what a stanchion was. But I was in the area today and the initial waypoint wasn't too far out of the way of the circuit I'd planned, so I stopped by. Luckily, it soon became clear what I was looking for and I very soon had the cache in hand. It was find some clues for a puzzle I attempted a long time ago but put aside. Time to take another look! TFTC Muzza.
Another excellent and well constructed multi in a interesting place. Thanks for bringing me here, Muzza - always worth doing yours.
A peaceful walk at the end of the week.
Only one or two muggles in the area this afternoon.
A couple of skinks darting for cover in the grass.
Counted the cut off staunchions to find **X**
Cache found quite easily as it was a little exposed.
Signed and replaced, tucked under a bit more.
Went to leave and remembered I hadn't got a clue.
Thanks for the history lesson and the cache muzza.

Fun find! Just count up the number of staunchions then add them into the formula then chuck them in the co-ordinates and you’re pretty much there. It’s in a kind of obvious spot if you don’t over think it.
After counting the statuchans and going for a stroll around as gps wasn't working properly we back tracked said hello to a roo and found the goods thankyou
After organising some things in the morning I was looking for a Multi near Heidelberg. This one seemed to be easy so I just gave it a try.

As part of my more luck find, the one from the shipping lane, I had to do this one. So off with Ninja Tortoise I went via velocipedie. Very interesting bit of history and a quick find. TFTC
I've been orienteering through this reserve several times, but didn't realise a disused rail line passes through it. ICW and I counted the necessary items, worked out GZ and quickly found the cache. Tftc.
Nice find in my old stamping ground. Learned a lot about the paddocks we used to play in as boys.. TNLN. TFTC
This was a great one for our little posse (Aito, aged 7, and Amon, aged 4). We found the first staunchion near the roundabout and then the trail wasn't too hard to locate. It was great to find the "ghost train" signage and then counting the staunchions was fun. The actual cache was in a good spot. Thanks!
A lunchtime walk was in order after I had been muggled out of a find elsewhere locally. I have myself enjoyed the train history notes and definitely enjoyed the fun of the find here today other than the present left on my show by some local dog walker. It is true that it is an off-the-beaten-track walk here, however that does not absolve you of the responsibility to remove any barkers eggs laid by your ambulatory pooch.
Was some good fun had though so thank you. I think I need to get some more clues!!!

Well this was a bit of a treat .... Apart from the large barky dog at the corner of the estate we walked past, which gave us a little bit of a start, lol. We found the first WP and started counting. I got about half way before I thought to check where we were, but we were going in the right direction, so all good. We reached WP2 and a quick calculation took us to the right place and an "I found it" was soon heard. I like learning things like this - where train tracks used to go or perhaps where buildings used to be. I also like trains - I REALLY like trains. It's a true fact that I can name by a mere glimpse over 50 "Really Useful Engines" and not even three fairytale princesses- just part of my effort in passing the train bug "down the line" so to speak.
I certainly learned something here. I spent the earliest years of my life hopelessly underinformed about what was in that substantial treed area I glimpsed when daily riding by on the train. Turns out there's train stuff in there. And trains are cool. But I'm only learning about this decades after I moved out of the area. I was, it seems, a most incurious youth. The counting exercise was fairly straightforward and the cache was found with relative ease. Must be one of very few multis where I got away with just figuring out the numbers in my head. Thanks once more Muzza! I'm impressed that one can stumble upon your caches more or less anywhere in the metropolitan area!
"Jeckleberry and tedd" wanted to get away from her essay writing for a hour or two today so my job was to research a few caches for us to do together. This was a short multi close to home, so fitted the criteria.
We had an enjoyable walk along the path carefully counting as we talked. In the clearing we calculated the co-ords for GZ and headed there. I had come prepared with a new lid for the cache and jeckleberry provided a ziplock bag to keep the contents extra dry.
Thanks muzza for showing us some more of our local area and it's history.

In desperate need of escape from the monotony of study and essay writing, I put a call out to geocaching friends to see if anyone could rescue me for an hour or two from my own self-imposed insanity. Thankfully Cathlud heeded the call. Broken free of the shackles we ended up in this glorious reserve, counting poles and observing the land formation. It was just the place I needed to be.
Cathlud did some much needed maintenance on the cache, whilst I dreamt of extending our hour of caching into an all day escape. Sadly it wasn't to be (though I still didn't add much to the essay).
TFTC and bringing us to this lovely reserve.

We are very lucky to have so many lovely nature reserves in out suburbs. This one is wonderful. Didn't see another soul today though. Great to learn a little of the history of Macleod. Found easily after the short walk. Cache container has a hole in its lid and is cracking up somewhat, so may need replacing on the near future. Contents still dry today though. Thanks for this lovely cache Muzza. A fave from me.
After a morning of completing chores I thought that I would spend a few hours grabbing some caches. I am still hoping to complete enough multis in January to qualify for the Multi Monthly Challenge cache.

Nice area, never been here despite living not that far away, geomutt very happy too! Found the cache easily enough, nah plastic spider never had me fooled, oh well okay, maybe just for a second
In Melbourne again today to pick up some specific caches, making this one our first port of call. I guess that's the wrong terminology as this is about trains not ships! Found the necessary number of stanchions to get us to GZ where we found the cache tucked nicely away keeping out of the weather as is just as well as the lid has a hole. (Sorry no replacements on us today)
Thanks muzza for another interesting location and cache.

Not sure we counted correctly but found it with coordinates. Loved finding out some history about the local area. Thanks!
Beaut bit of history here. TFTC. I also left the cache upside down as the lid is cracked.
Stopped by tonight to grab this multi, I have driven past here many times and now I find out the history of this train line, thanks for putting this cache here.
Reaching wp1, I started counting and reached the end, I already had the 5 possible gzs plugged and I thought I had counted correctly by nothing there , so I moved to the next number and quickly found it, the lid is cracked, so I turned cache upside down o stop any rain getting in. Thanks for the walk

Found without any difficulty. I know this trail but never realised it originally was a railway line. Thanks for such an interesting site.
MasterIschi and Arthur and Dent went on another epic cache run. We collected 17 of 20 caches including a multi caches during our 20 km journey. We want to thank all cache owners: we had a great time out here.

A reasonably quick find on my walk home from the railway station (as it is now). I've had this on my list for a while as my family often goes for walks past here.

Needed this one for the last clues for Puzzlemania #5. Another interesting foray in the dark and I'm getting better at dodging the nighttime creatures in search of caches. My epic Ebay collection trip brought me back near here and I was on the trail of the missing rail line. I thought the clues might be hard to count in the dark but it was all pretty obvious thanks to a clear explanation and after a little while searching I had the cache in hand. I picked up the required clues and signed the log before re-stashing it. Thanks for the cache muzza.
OK, so now to use Tarbit's cryptic crossword knowledge to open the mystic zips.

I was in the area just cleaning up a few trads and multis and I made this one my last find for the afternoon. Managed to find all the required bits needed and worked out the final wp and soon had the cache logged. Thanks muzza for the bit of history of the line and the cache, it is amazing how many things you come across and discover when geocaching.

On my way to find some GA moveable and dropped in on the way past. I walked up the line collecting the required info and after a quick couple of sums soon had the cache in hand at gz.
Thanks muzza for the cache and the info. It's amazing sometimes what used to be around.

My first multi! I grew up in the area and have walked around here a few times before but never knew this old train line existed (the "Ghost Trains" info board is a relatively recent addition, in other words, it wasn't there two-and-a-half years ago!). TFTC and the history.
Worked out the coordinates a while back. The longer grass in summer deterred the initial search. Back today to finally collect this one. Thanks for the history. TFTC
After competing in a nearby golf tournament, it was a good opportunity to grab a few nearby caches in an area that I had not visited before.
A nice walk to collect the required numbers and then it was off to GZ. A great spot and a great hint assisted in this one. Saw a blue tongue lizard near the cache. I was always told if you have lizards, then you won't see a snake. I hope this is the case as it is quite grassy here. Had a chat with a local muggle who was walking her dog so had to make up a story about what I was doing. Always fun caching.
This gave me the last clue so it is now off to do puzzlemania
Thanks for the cache muzza and for showing me this nice area.

Enjoyed the walk along the old track and got the necessary numbers along the way.
A quick calc and a nice walk to an easy find at GZ.
Thanks again Muzza for the history and the cache

444CF ~ I have been over here from the United Kingdom to help out my sister and family with a house move and decorating new house, so why not a bit of caching too! [Due to internet failure after 28th August while there I am now entering up my finds back in UK ~ 12/09/13]
I had hoped to go caching on the 1st but after chasing caches for the whole of August, I had to tune down due to needing to get work out the way, so after a few days of none, I managed to get out for half an hour, so after much thought, I decided to go get this and work it out while pushing my 16 week old nephew in his pram.
The path to get the clues has a fallen tree along it at the moment, so had to lift pram over it, got to the end point and worked out the final GZ. Soon had cache in hand and signed and went back to the house to pick up the paint brush.
TFTC.

Today I went out after two Multis, this being the first one. I wasn't sure where the best place to park was so I ended up in Dunstan Street. From there I had to find my to the old railway line via the fenced paths through the nature reserve. Not the most efficient way of getting to the start point but I did in the end.
It was a sunny morning so it was a pleasant stroll along the embankment counting lumps of steel. With answer obtained, it was off to GZ once the co-ords were calculated. I found the cache without too much drama and signed the log.
Thanks Muzza for the cache. I have grabbed the clues to Puzzlemania #5 and will have to give it a try...one day.

Found this sunny afternoon at 1500 after making my way down from a nearby cache to the start of the old rail line, counted the cut off stauchions, once I googled what a stauchion was. Worked out the WP coordinates and made my way to the well hidden cache. sl tnln, tftc.
