Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on. SA caching foray. Staying in Portland for a few days to grab some of the local hides. Spending the arvo getting some outlying caches. 600 + mts to gz - did the numbers twice to make sure we go it right. Awesome views from gz. Thanks for the hide
We are travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying in Portland for a few days, wandering around the area enjoying the amazing sights this area has to offer. TFTC. LNCU.
The area was open again today so we checked the cache to find it missing. It has now been replaced a bit further from the Look Out and the cache page has been adjusted to suit.Happy Hunting.
We cam by to check this one out and found the area completely closed off to visitors because of the fire dangers. We will be back here in a week or so and hopefully the barriers will be down and we can do the maintenance run.
Really enjoyed the walk and view. Found where I thought would be the obvious hiding spot but unfortunately no luck for me in finding the cache. I had a decent look in the near by area too. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the cache may have been taken or moved from its original location.
Found this one while out road tripping to have lunch with friends camping here.
Quick stop by the sawpit for a look and to do the maths, then back to pick up all the camp kids for the walk to GZ. Fair walk there with 8 kids ranging from 11 to 2.
While we were walking their parents decided it would be funny to play a trick on me by hiding the cache. They then had to try and get to Whalers Lookout before us by driving and riding. Luckily, in the end, we all made it there at the same time, so they couldn't do it.
After a short search, the cache was found exactly where it was supposed to be.
I ended up riding a bike most of the way back to camp while everyone else went back in the cars. Hard slog that was.

After contacting co yesterday to confirm we had correct co-ords went back today and looked under around and everywhere there was a log but this one had us stumped
Staying at the beautiful nearby campground. Had to come and find this one. Thanks
Mrs trouble teamed up with her mum Mrs 80 degrees to work out the end location of this cache. The kids enjoyed seeing part of history of how logs were cut and moved around.
We really enjoyed the final location of this cache.
Ps. I appreciated the ability to drive to this cache rather than having to walk it.

This was the second of the 2 multis we came for this afternoon. Found the necessary info and then the correct track where we drove to the final location and made the find. Checked out the nearby view then took a different track home. TFTC
Visiting family for Christmas and exploring the region a bit. After two beach caches we decided to head for the shade. We chose this location on a whim and it was an excellent little outing. At the starting location we quickly gathered promising coords. Love a simple multi! Then came the debate: to walk or to drive. We lazily opted for driving and were glad we did when we discovered the shared tracks. That's combining everybody's hobbies.
Thanks heaps Team Crackers for the fun! Everything is well at GZ - almost exactly 18 years since it's publication! Good job!

On our way to Portland for an event and catchup with good friends, we travelled via Dunkeld, Port Fairy and Narrawong to find a few more caches that we hadn't had time to stop for in previous travels.
We had met up with scramping and hevwalker at the previous multi so we joined forces to tackle this one together. We had never been to this beautiful campsite before - and it was fairly busy today. But certainly one to keep in mind for any future camping adventures. We soon located the wooden work feature we needed in order to calculate our next step. Our respective fingers and toes all agreed on the numbers and we soon had a destination to head towards. Ah there's a track that should take us there. But wait, the blue gps dot isn't following the track on the map, but looks to be going in the general direction. With scramping and hevwalker following us, we were hoping we weren't leading them into the never never, never to be seen again. Before long, however, our blue dot and our target realigned and we found ourselves at a most spectacular location, that all made sense now with the title and the purpose of this multi. A definite favourite point from us. Thank you Team Crackers for keeping this terrific golden oldie multi going.

In Portland for a Community Celebration event this evening with scramping.
Of course with some other caching to be done before.
Having joined forces with chooknchunk at a previous cache we followed them to this great little camping area. A return spot with the van I think. We looked at the wooden logs and mode of transport there and got the answers for the questions to come up with the final location.
Following chooknchunk in the vehicle in front of us we came up to the top of the hill with a "wow" to follow as the location has amazing views. The was even a big mob of huge kangaroos on the nearby hillside. The sculpture on the skyline is pretty spectacular too.
After finding & signing the cache we said "seeya later" to chooknchunk and headed off in another direction.
Thanks for bringing us to both these fantastic locations Team Crackers

Found on the way to a Christmas Celebrations event in Portland with hevwalker. We had met up with chookandchunk at a previous muti and thought we would continue onto this one together. fter quickly working out the final we headed off to have a huge 'WOW' moment as we reached the open space of GZ. What a view!!!!
We stayed here the night, awesome campground, koalas and friendly crimson rosellas. Loved the bike trails and the view. TFTC
This cache was somewhat out of the way but we know that these CO's always places caches in places that are worth a visit. We were correct. Wow. What a fantastic view. Wow. What a fantastic sculpture. Wow. What a fantastic area to camp. Wow. Wow. Wow. We took the long way into the camp area and accidentally came out a different way which was so much shorter. Always the way when caching. This is one that we have ear-marked to come back to with some time to have a look around. Thank you for everything that this cache offers. A definite favourite.
I think this might be one of my favourite caches. I loved the location. I loved the sculpture against the green grass, the cerulean ocean and the turquoise sky. Stunning. The camp ground was huge, quiet, shady and easy access. The only thing needed was a cache to show people that this is here and here it is. Thank you for this great cache. A definite favourite for me.
We had camped overnight at the Sawpit campground. We were sitting around eating a late breakfast and we checked to see if there were any caches in the area, as we thought it would be a great place for a cache.
Sure enough there was a cache, and a pretty old one at that. We made our way over to the area to find the data we needed to ascertain GZ.
Once the coordinates were calculated it was off with the three geodogs, Gypsy Girl, Teeny Treek and Mini Michi through the beautiful bush.
When we arrived at GZ we were treated to a magnificent view. The geodogs also were very interested in the three mobs of kangaroos that we could see lazing around not far from where we were.
We made a quick find of the cache and it is in excellent condition. Thank you for this cache Team Crackers

Mrs Riddell has been in Portland for the week and managed to get the figures for this cache, very late on a freezing night when she first drove into town.
Needless to say she wasn’t going for a night walk that late, so left the retrieval until today.
A favourite point given here for the locations history and beauty. A great little walk too.
She also managed to tun into a couple who we met at street orienteering many years ago.
Turns out they geocache too. (Rod and Jan)
So that was nice company.

I found this cache on a caching adventure out west by myself. Testing out the new van to see how it goes as a camper.
Today I would start at Sawpit Free campground, where I camped last night and drive home via Warrnambool.
This cache wasn’t on my list of caches to do on this trip as I don’t usually plan where I’m going to camp until I kinda work out where I’m going to be (well at least that true when I’m by myself). And it was only because I was messaging RobMc as I was sitting at camp enjoying a beer that he mentioned there was a nice multi at that campsite.
I had a look on the live map and I couldn’t see it anywhere. Looked all over the area and nope, no multi on the map.
Was only when I messaged RobMc back and asked him where the multi started that he said it started in the campground I was in.
Huh?
Then I zoomed in. And further in. And then I saw it. Starts 8 meters away from where I’d pulled up camp and my little blue dot on the map had been obscuring the icon.
But I was tired and so I wondered over to work out the final, but decided to leave the walk for another day.
But you can drive to it, implored RobMc.
Shhhh, it’s beer drinking time.
Next morning, up bright and early and packed up camp to drive to the final. Except there’s a gate saying walkers only.
Bloody RobMc, I thought to myself to begin the very nice 600m walk to the final location, which was also where I found the road that you obviously can use to drive to.
Doh.
Anyhow, what’s done was done and the cache was found in excellent condition and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk back to the van.
A lovely way to start the morning and a FAV point from me.

Found on short visit from Adelaide to the Portland area for a few days of caching and camping. This was on my target list of caches of interest.
The required information was soon collected and final coordinates calculated. Then it was a quick find at GZ just a short distance away.
Thanks Team Crackers for the cache.

I've been saving this one for a souvenir day and pretty lucky I did. Not too many weirdos at the campground, last time I drove through they all stared at me and I felt like there was a serial killer convention.
Info gathered and then a drive along the good track to GZ which is just spectacular and then a drive along the crap track back to the road, terrified I would have to tell Mr Morris I'd scratched the new car.

A long awaited road trip, originally planned for the Millicent Mega weekend. However due to possible SA border issues, we’re only doing the Vic sections. Joined by Papi4506 & Geoturtle37, RoamingHowie and I are finally on the road to adventure!
Day 4: Portland to Hamilton.
After packing up camp I strolled over to learn all about the sawmill. Gathered coords and headed off to gz to take in the view, take some photos and find the cache.

Continuing our regional Victoria road trip on our way to Portland we were distracted by some multicaches. How could we resist a Wooden Works Multi? This was such an unexpected location. We were a little tempted to camp nearby but it was fairly busy and we were keen to finally arrive at Portland.
We feel very grateful to be exploring regional Victoria and enjoying some relaxing caching time.
Thank you for your cache and adding to our road trip memories. This one deserves a favourite point.

Since we were camped 6m from the start of this.. we invited some nearby campers over who we'd heard discussing the sawpit and introduced them to geocaching. They loved the education side of things and how this cache answered all their questions.
Final answer was inputed and we left the short walk for daylight. Nice easy find and a spectacular view. Tftc

Covid-19 restrictions are now lifted and Geocaching is allowed so it is back on line.
Due to the new Covid 19 restrictions Geo Caching is not a reason to be out so we are disabling our caches untill safe to enable again.

Camped next to the display made it easy to find co ordinates once tent was set up. A small drive with the kids as we saw a snake crossing the track but a quick find when at destination. No whales sighted today.
Stayed at the campground of GZ overnight and decided to drive out to the final this morning. The car didn’t make it the whole way but we walked the final bit for a great view at GZ. TFTC

I had a great time riding my mountain bike along the track and accidentally 4wd ing into the camp through the back roads. What a great spot. Thanks for explaining the history.

A very enjoyable cache. I was camping at the Sawpit Campground here, so after I had eaten my dinner, I set about finding this one.
I do like night caches, and I like doing regular caches at night.
The final coords were easily calculated and showed up where I was expecting, so I headed off on foot. It was a nice night for it, a few clouds flying by, but moonless and with lots of stars out. Roos and wallabies out too.
At the viewpoint there were the lights of Portland etc., very good view. I found it a little difficult to find the cache, not so much because it was at night, but mainly because I didn't look in the right spot, just a bunch of other spots...
I then returned for sunrise the next morning, and sat watching the wildlife, the roos and horses and birds, for quite a while.
Both times of day are highly recommended for finding this cache.

We decided that we would have our lunch here, so we sat on a log and did the calculations while we ate. This done and as the gate was open and the road looked good we decided to ride the trike in. We have walked and walked while in Portland and our little legs are pretty tired.
The day was a little cloudy but the view was grand. The calculated co-ords were good and we soon found the nice sized container which is in good condition. SL TFTC

After the Portland event, I joined up with The Tritonz and McLookers for a trek to Mt.Eccles to find a few caches, this one was on the list.
We arrived at the posted coordinates which was a very popular and busy area today, we collected the required info and then headed off to the final GZ where we were able to make a quick find.

On my way to Portland for today's event. I left Warrnambool early so that I had time to pick up some caches on the way. As I pulled into the Sawpit Picnic grounds, the place was like a small town with caravans, tents & people everywhere. Obviously a popular spot for a long weekend. I gathered the necessary information, rechecked my numbers and headed to GZ. At GZ, I managed to make a quick find. Container in good condition. Thanks Team Crackers for the cache & a glimpse of what life was life back then.
Another interesting multi and a stunning spot for a final. Thanks TC, really enjoyed this one. Found with SteMicMitSar today.
Suscoe was down in this area for our annual dose of music at the PFFF,
we look forward to this weekend all year long.
So with an early arrival we headed to the Portland area for some caching time.
It was a beaut day and we had a great time.
Suscoe made our way in here, never knew about this spot.
Did the counting a few times and then headed on a magical mystery tour to GZ.
And it was too!!!!!!!!!!
Met a couple and their baby from Germany and had a pleasant chat with them for a while and pointed out a few spots to visit on their travels.

TFTC. We are camped at the sawpit for a few days before attending the event in Portland on Saturday. Before coming here we had ascertained that there were a few caches intended forest. Did mit dream that this one was only 70 metres from where we parked . After setting up took a walk to the pit and did the necessary arithmetic. Thdn a walk through the forest to GZ. Interesting history.
Quick walk to GZ whilst staying overnight.

Knowing we were heading down to Portland today we printed off some multi sheets in preparation for a day of multiple fun. We always seem to muck up multis and today was no exception. With our counting correct we forgot to do a minus which put us a very unlikely spot. Rereading our notes we found our mistake and then got a better location. With the tracks opened it was a quick drive to GZ where we fully appreciated the views.
Thanks Team Crackers for another nice multi.

Day 10 of our geoholiday in Victoria now we are slowly making our way back to Adelaide grabbing caches along the way, After camping in the free camp here i fired up the GPS to see what caches are on our way and spot there is one less than 50 metres, what a bonus : ) its a multi hmmmm do we want to do a multi or just collect trads ?? i am really glad we chose to do this multi as it was a fantastic one with very interesting information with it, so pleased to see they rebuilt this after the fires, if it wasn't for this multi we would have driven straight out of this campsite without even spotting it, great starting point and great finish location, were even scored a pathtag, the only one on our holiday : ) Thanks for the cache and definitely worth a fave point.

I finally decided to ignore the campers and picnic-ers who have twice before foiled my attempts, and found the cache. Thanks for the history lesson and a new favourite place for a run
After some searching & sightseeing we finally found the road we were meant to take (had we read the description properly it could've been quicker haha) great find for the day, thanks
It was an early Saturday morning, we had left home from Mount Gambier, SA & was on our caching adventure weekend away. We are heading to Codrington Gardens in Codrington, Victoria where we will stay the night in a double decker train carriage surrounded with beautiful gardens and many animals to see including alpacas that come to your door step. We are heading there to collect keys and drop our clothes ect off, then we are going to head into Warrnambool, Victoria for shopping & geocaching. Pulled up to GZ, answered the questions then geokiddies needed the toilet so off we go. Geomum placed co-ords into phone and said to Geodad.. "I think we got it wrong, I don't think it would be that far away". So back to the GZ starting point to re do the questions in a few different ways it could be taken. Placed the couple of co-ords which all leaded that way so off we went to the first waypoint we had first worked out. There was a road that led us around. We pulled up, jumped out for a quick look, looked at hint but still had no idea until geoson2 said "found it". I looked at geodad whom said "I'm too good, told you it was right".. haha few laughs had. What a beautiful camping ground, would never know it was here without geocaching. TFTC

A great cache to finish off my Australia Day run with
At lunch time the campground was busy with the sounds of people packing up camp and heading off, back to wherever they came from.
(Except for the Grey Gomads of course !!)
So it is finally here
The end of the silly season !! [:o]
Peace and tranquility can return to the seasides and bush until Easter [^]
The first stop at the saw pit was far from quiet [:o]
But I soon had the answers I sought and headed off into the quiet of the bushland on foot
The walk to GZ is a good 'un and is actually a loop, so you don't have to retrace your steps [^]
There was plenty to look at along the stroll and it was good to see how much the bushland has regenerated since the fires
My short stroll soon delivered some great views too
No whales to be seen today !!
A few small boats were buzzing around the bay though
TFTC, history and exercise
Fave point time !!

Took the long way between Hamilton and Portland via mt clay. Went to the sawpit. So different from when I was a kid, understandable due to the fires. The log and pit were both bigger. I use to horse ride with my aunty and the trails are now drivable. the second point was what I though it might be.

The company I work for has an annual shutdown between Christmas and New Year. I had decided to use this time to head out on a couple of caching road trips in order for me to qualify for two challenges... Victorian LGA Polygon Challenge and Victoria Country Road Atlas Challenge. After a successful northern trip with my housemate Obi-Cal, I headed south west solo this time for a bit more adventure.
I recently purchased a book that listed many free campsites around Australia and am slowly working my way through it. this was the best one for me today and after I had set up, i checked the cache map and what do you know, the start of a multi just 70 metres away. So I decided before making dinner another cache was in order. The counting on this one confused my small brain, but eventually I worked out a plausible location. Despite the gates being open, it was a nice night for a walk so off I went, arriving at GZ in pretty quick time. Cache located and is in A1 condition.
Thanks to Team Crackers for placing this cache.

Great to see that this area has been repaired after the fires in April. Trees are all reshooting too.
Pretty sure we had correct coordinates but sadly couldn't find the cache. Good luck to it other fellow cachers
Camped at saw point last night and a great camp spot it was too. Wandered over before tea and got the required info and then headed off to get this cache. Gz had us on private land and a search of the nearby scrub produced nothing. Walked back to camp and checked the listing and realised our mistake. Minus 1 dummy!!!!
Returned this morning for a quick find at the obvious place. Think we should have read some previous logs or at least the cache description.
At gz decided the aborigines must have had better eyesight than we've got! Thanks for the cache and the double trip to this one didn't hurt us.

Although the original saw pit was destroyed by the fires the shire has made a copy and the cache is reary to go again.
Superpop, our cache caretaker has informed us that the council have reopened the whole area and have replaced the article at wpt1 so we will be able to replace this cache by the end of the week.
A good friend visited here yesterday and said the area is now open for camping but that there is still some clean up work to be done.
We have been in touch with the shire to see if they have a time line for the replacement of the main part of the multi, no reply as yet.
The clean up is going well and as soon as this is completed we will get this one up and running hopefully in the near future, either as the multi or change it to a Trad, .

This is our first chance to visit this area after the fires on our way home from the Oz Mega.
As the area is still closed to the public and we believe that the cache has been destroyed we will temporarily disable this one until the area is declared safe and we can repalce the container.
The picnic area survived the fires quite well as did the information sign but the structure at wpt 1 was totally destroyed as well, hopefully the council will see fit to replace it with another.

Cache has been destroyed by wildfire.
Final Location of the cache has been destroyed by wildfire
Log cart used to determine final location of cache has been destroyed by wildfire.
Sawpit Picnic Area (Starting location of cache) has been heavily damaged by wildfire
Sawpit and surrounding tracks have been closed to visitors pending hazardous tree assessment and rehabilitation.
This cache needs archiving however that was rejected as there was no maintenance request.
This should remedy that issue.

Went to check the cache after the Mt Clay fire of the first of April.
Pretty sure the cache has been destroyed by the wildfire.
The last location I knew it to be was not in a good way at all.
The area that the multicache was in has been temporarily closed to the public for safety concerns.
