?? Heading up from the other caches south of here, There is a trail sort of, to here thru the long grass, we took that to get to here.
?? Initially we had no luck, until we broadened our search. There was this pile of rubbish... no that's not rubbish.... it's the archived cache! Glad we found this golden oldie, but the contents were almost mush, as rusty said if we had time and took the log book home, we could have rescued it by drying it out. The container was more or less in a dozen pieces. So some paper was added and Aiden signed us in and rusty took a foto. We left it there as best as we could and moved on!

A plan was made with Gorby and tramyard to travel down from Auckland to Turangi for a celebration event at Stump Bay on the 27th before heading up to camp at Huntly and attending a celebration event on the 28th. In total, we traveled 740km over the two days.
We had a number of hours to kill before the event at 1pm, so we decided to target the caches around Lake Puketirini after breakfast. We underestimated how long this walk would take, as it took us over 3hours finding all the caches in the area.
Rustynz noted that this archived cache was mentioned on another cache and had been found after being archived, so we decided to give it a go as we would be passing by anyway. Started searching behind the wrong flax but quickly moved on and spied the plastic bag, which was holding the cache. Surprised to find it after 4 years. The logbook was soaking wet, but I added some waterproof paper for the next finders.

With mention of this cache, and with me loving to find old caches when I can, we decided to come over for a look, and see if we could find the cache
Well we did! gorby spotted it, and whilst the contents appeared dry, the log book was not. Sadly whilst a name could be scratched on the paper, it really needs to be sat in the sun to completely dry out. Loved finding this one, thanks for creating this adventure.

I am out and about on this blustery Spring day enjoying a drive in the country and collecting some hides while I am at it. I became aware that this cache was still present and findable the other day. I was looking at another hide by the CO, subsequently adopted by radionut, when I decided to check out the profile of the original hider. There I noticed two other hides, both long archived. But, what's this one had been found most recently? Well, I made a note to check this one out myself, if I happened to be passing by. Today, I parked up and took the railway track to GZ. Found in the second spot I checked. Obviously the container is no good, but the log book is in fine condition. Cheers for the cache placement!
Had a friend come over With his Tea
And told as how he has just been out to Lake Waahi and found an Archived cache from 2008
So away we go { Next morning}.We wandered along railway line to GZ
And Bingo,Log Book still in good condition, dry, and still in its bag.Just the Lunch box broken.
Sign and ticked it away again

Find number 4182. I have been looking at old archived caches and wondering if the containers were still in place. I was in the area and had the opportunity to check on it. I wandered along the railway line to GZ. Once there I made my way into the bushes. The first flax produced nothing but as I approached the next I spotted it. The container was out in the open and the lid was broken. The plastic lunch box is no longer blue as it has faded with age. It is also very brittle. There was still some swag with it. The log book was still in it's plastic bag. It was perfectly dry. even though it had not been found for 3842 days. Signed and sealed it up again. Then I placed the box in a white plastic bag and tucked it under the flax. So great to see that it is still there.
As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Perhaps the owner needs to decide whether they wish to adopt this out this or archive it??
Stopped here on the way south in the Rocket ship.. the hold full of gear for the bach and XC captive in the passenger seat.... kidnapped to paint a wall at the bach.
Enjoyed the short walk to GZ, seems to be a popular fishing and dumping spot for the locals, loved the overgrowth on the old car. Got trapped by fur in the bushes and despite being entangled for several minutes managed to get the scent of the cache before XC
Lunchboxes with this type of lid seem to work really well to keep the contents in good condition as they keep water out yet do not sweat. Nice hide thanks

Driving south on a maintenance visit to Turangi with Technokitten in the Rocket. Stopped here for a quick find.. I think it was a little more that a 1/1 but TK soon located it.. Cache seemed to be in good condition and not in need of maintenance. TK signed the log and we left calling cards.

Slow trip to Auckland nabbing a few caches along the way. Took Ping pong ball. Left Koala. TFTC
Found in rain. Shoes wet. Cache dry!
Railway tracks look like they're still being used. Keep away, no need to go anywhere near the tracks!

Cool tracks! But watch out for that eerie half-bured car if you go by the grassy route.
Rala and Hopeful #2 went on a caving trip to Waitomo.
Stopped here right between the rain showers and walked the pleasant way towards GZ - until we found an old car sitting next to the walkway, overgrown with grass. What an eerie sight...
Finding the cache was a bit annoying in the beginning (so many 'synk' bushes, so where to start>), retrieving then cache required a bit of faith (some cobwebs were guarding it - shiver!).

PS: Hm, is this terrain 1? We thought, this wouldn't be suitable for wheelchairs...

Bit of a boggy wet walk alongside the lake but no problem to find this one once at GZ.

Nasty noisy bikes racing around us far too fast so we took to the rails for safety. A quick find and even quicker retreat, was pleased to see the car was still there and OK. Really nice sunset.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Walked along beside the railway, easy to identify hint object. Very few people around.

Not too hard to find when there's nobody around. The first time I came here was with LRPnz and there were some dodgy looking characters in the carpark, so we gave it a miss. Last time I was here the place was teeming with muggles, as there was a jetski competition on the lake. Today there was only a woman sitting in her car reading a book. TNLNSL, thanks.

12.25pm. Jet ski races on the lake today, but they were more interested in themselves than what we were doing.
The cache had some water in it, we cleaned it out, and added some silica gel to the log book bag.
Removed very wet hacky sack so it didn't make rest of the loot sodden as well.

LRPnz and I came by here one other time when we were travelling down to Hamilton, but didn't have any luck then because a few suspicious looking youths were loitering, so we didn't feel safe leaving the car in the car park. Today I arrived to find huge crowds of people as there was some sort of jet-ski competition happening on the lake.
Well I am pleased to report I went the right way and thanks to reading St Ouens log also went straight to the cache. I did not hang about as a chill wind with light rain was blowing off the lake.
Oh! It appears that the railway line is back in use.

Found after a quick jog down the rail line. Definitly look like these lines are in regular use judging by the shiny silver tops. Got to the cache just as the weather was turning for the worst.

Great spot and an easy find. We got the right road. Glad we had gummies today and enjoyed the walk. TFTC
13:09 Did a wee walk by a wee lake with EJ & Boss.
Got on the right track to find no cache at GZ. Had been weed sprayed? Used Blue's Clue & a bit of a search to find cache at 37° 34.042' E 175° 07.988' averaged +/- 3.5m. Is correct place according to clue but coords slightly out. The dead plant at GZ was toetoe.
Luckily the rain had stopped for the duration. Boss appreciated the walk. We got blown back in the freezing cold and a rain squall. Thinking about it later, we may have forgotten to sign the log. Blame it on the frozen extremities...

We actually had a kayak on the roof-racks but it was too windy to use. The wind-surfers were having a ball though...

A lovely early evening walk. But is that a plague of locusts in the early stages in the grass - they seem to be everywhere! Spotted the abandoned car just peering out of the overgrowth on the way back out. An easy cache, love the cutsie container. In - toy car & buttefly bracelet. Out - crystal bird. T4TC.

12.10pm. YAPIDNA. What a pleasant location and just off the beaten track !! Confirmed the railway is used. Plenty of flax bushes to choose from. Gathered up a small bag of coal along the track on our return - will help keep the home fires burning.

Nice little stopover for a breather enroute to Auckland. Had the same trouble as JaYwALk with our initial choice of foliage, but then found it easily.

Nice easy find near a lake we didn't know existed.
NOTE: That railway is NOT disused, an engine towing 32 coal carriages chugging past us pretty much laid that to rest, you may wish to alter the listing so people don't become too complacent.

It was the first geocache of my girlfriend. She enjoyed to find it. And now, she wants to offer a GPS to his father! Not a very nice spot under clouds and rain… but a good break on the road to south.
Spent a little bit too long before realising we were looking in the wrong spot (need to work on my NZ fauna!)......but eventually found it.

Is the railway line disused? The rails still look shiny.
Wandered alongside the railway line until the GPS showed ground zero. A quick ferret in the undergrowth and presto!
After finding the cache, I found the 'easy' track route below the railway. Spent a while examining the remains of the partially dismantled car in the bushes. I used to own one like that...
