Sadly logging this as a dnf. I love my side quest of lonely caches, and it had been 447days since this was last found - and itll be a few more Couldnt find it a coordinates, despite it being a large enough cache (previous pics). Extended the search out but the place is really overgrown with quite a few blackberry bushes and thistles. Spent about 20mins looking. Good luck to next hunter and Ill pop this on my watchlist.
Hunted high and low for a while. Read some previous comments and thought we were in the correct area. Too many blackberries and very overgrown. With miniAG.
Searched and searched but could find it . Terrain is quite rough in there and full of blackberry thorns so watch out
Nice spot to camp for the night, was a bit waterlogged, thank you to the person that added the triple bagged dry notepad. TFTC!
Nice quick find, beware the blackberry. Closing in on our next milestone. Tftc.
Found with our grandsons on a glorious Saturday morning at Lake Tutira. Great fun, thanks very much for the placement.
A nice quick find here. Removed the water from the container and logged our find on some waterproof paper, double bagged it and left it in the cache. Thanks for the cache placement.
Making our way from Gisborne to Napier. We stopped at the lake for lunch and then drove up to the end for a short walk to make this find. Good to find an old cache. A bit damp inside. The Kowhai tree is stunning in full bloom.

Walked right past this one. A bit of a scramble to get into GZ but once through the undergrowth there was a nice green open area. Cache was easily spotted. The bucket was full of water, as was the logbook despite being triple bagged. Was still able to write on it. Lots of kowhai in the vicinity, which explained the many tui chasing each other through the trees. TFTC
26 October 2020 14:04 damp but signable, dried things out as best I could. Tftc. Brambles may be a problem in the future, but fine for now.
The plan was to travel from Wellington up to Lake Waikaremoana for the long weekend, and then do the Great Walk (half way) around the lake. Sadly only half of that plan came true, but along the way I grabbed a few select caches and this was one of them.
Camping for the night nearby it was a short walk to this one. No problem finding the cache, and as others have commented the container was half full of water. Emptied everything out and was able to dry the book enough to sign the log. TFTC.

On a lovely sunny winter's day we enjoyed the walk around Lake Tutira. The cache was hidden well, but we managed to find it. Thanks for leading us here.
Off on a 5 day mission from Northland to the East Coast with the main target being the last two CANZ caches that I had not yet found. The opportunity to grab some $25 airfares to Napier was just too good to miss, even though it was winter and the days might be short and the weather might be dodgy.
Day one though was a real mission, with early morning fog for the drive to Auckland, untold time navigating the long Akl parking lots, delayed flights before we took off and then again in the air before we could land causing a missed connection for the rental cache mobile pick up. To top it off, the weather was cold and wet, but I still managed four caches in the dark.
Day three dawned a bit better with no rain and the promise of some sunshine later in the day for our trip northward from Napier up to Gisborne. Stopped at the lake to look for a few. Unfortunately, due to all the recent rain, the trails to this cache were very muddy and wet. Managed to get to within 15 metres away, but decided to flag the attempt as I didn't want to be driving the rest of the day in wet and dirty shoes and clothes. Thx anyway.

This was a good one. Flax had overgrown so we had to push through to find it. Beaut spot
#6496. Decided to have a short holiday on the east coast to enjoy the warm summer weather. The girls have joined me on the road trip. Stayed the night in Waipukurau. Now heading north to Gisborne and stopped here at Lake Tutira to take in the scenery and pick up several caches. Parked nearby and wandered down the path. Its a bit overgrown. Then the GPS suggested the cache was in the thicket near the lake. Found a route through the flax but it opened up again and the cache was nice and obvious. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks Zukin & Lany for the cache.
Parked near the entrance to the track and wandered on in. No problems in locating it, thanks
parked the mhome near and after a shower of rain set off for the doc cache. the rain set in before we got there so abandoned the walk . rain eased as we got back so went the other way to get this one since I was wet anyway. good co ords lead me quickly through the wet and drippy flax . pleased for a simple find. saw brown trout cruising the edges of the lake. tftc.
Yes! Finally I could tick the DNF-flag from this oine.. when I was here the first time in 2013 with 2 friends, it was raining and as far a I remember it had been for a while.. I remember climbing the fence, but I think we searched an area too close to the car.. wet grass to our knees and wet flax over our heads was not a motivational factor...
Today the weather was nice and the ground was fairly dry and the nice, big box was fast find
Found at 17:04 - #8534 - on a 5 week trip in New Zealand

Make sure you note how to get back to the track. This native planting done by volunteers is thriving .... but on the edges of this bush so is the long grass and blackberry and it could get swampy after wet weather. It would be very easy to get lost here. I reckon it should be a 2.5 difficulty for terrain at least. The cache itself is surviving OK. Tftc Zukin and Lany.
One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!!
Nice stroll to gz. Seems to be a popular area with a few campers present, enjoying the lovely day. TFTC!!

Caching with Sidewaze as we make our way around East Cape to Tauranga and then back to the South Island via Palmerston North and ferry across Cook Strait. Nice walk to GZ. TFTC
A nice walk in here. We stopped on the way, read about the devastation cyclone Bola caused and observed what had happened to the hillsides. Walked into the conservation area and found the cache. Thanks for bringing us here.
Did this one this morning after spending the night at this lovely campground. Scared all the sheep away on my way to GZ. No need for a lot of flax bashing, there is pretty much a trail all the way in. Quickly found, all in good order. TFTC
A little detour from our planned route and this was in hand. A peaceful place. TFTC
11:03:00 AM. Parked and made a bit of a bush bash through the wet flax to GZ. Found cache and log signed. Beautiful area in here and a few campers about. A shame we didn't have a fishing rod with us. Thanks Zukin & Lany for the cache.
Found with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!
Holidaying for a couple of weeks in NZ to do a bit of sight seeing and catch up with family. We have been from Auckland to Tauranga to Hicks Bay, the East Cape and Tolaga Bay and are now heading to Napier! I had planned all along to pull in here and reminisce for a bit as growing up we used to come here camping most years, splash about in the lake, float across on li-los, and do all the silly things kids do. It has changed a lot but still has the serene vibe I remember.
We made our way over and through the flax to the cache. All is good, it is clean and dry. Thanks for this cache, Zukin & Lany.

#9253. A nice wander in Tutira today. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

i found this ages ago with my dad ( nickhbnz ) but only got mu new account. tftc
After our huff and puff on Pera's Track it was nice to be down at the lake shore. Nice to see an old cache still active.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Heading back to Auckland and picking up caches along the way.
A few options at GZ - but we eventually found it.

Squirrel Nutcase and myself are on a road trip to the Gisborne area chasing caches with a higher D rating for our licence challenge. We visited area 3 months ago and hopefully we will have better success this time and collect anything else on the way. Day 1 was to get there first and day 2 back to Rotorua via Wairoa Napier way.
3.50pm - Didn't realise that this lake was so big. Drove around past several campers plus a crashed car on road. Easy stroll down track with a slight detour to find cache. Location a little different to hint. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... After five months of grief, it's time for another serious attack on our current caching license. We're heading east to target seven high difficulty caches, and anything else that catches our attention...
We were immediately surprised by the size of Lake Tutira. There were lots of campers enjoying the lakeside amenities, though we saw no one on the water... We made our way into ground zone from the end of the road. After a bit of thought, it was decided that the cache was not on the outer extremity and we needed to make our way into the thick vegetation. Gap found an entry point, then came up with this fairly large container... TFTC.

We'd returned for another night at Lake Tutira on our way home after getting as far as Whakatane on our latest holiday. We had failed to find this cache when we visited last August, but having read the recent logs decided it was time to have another attempt at finding its replacement. This time I came armed with a stout walking pole to fend off all the blackberry.
Once again we just found a thicket of blackberry at GZ and cast our search net wider. In the end I DID find the new cache container, a few metres away, although its location doesn't match the hint: perhaps things have died since the cache was originally hidden and other things have grown...blackberry for one. In fact there isn't anything in the vicinity that actually maches the hint, but there ARE lots of trees, lots of flax in various places and lots of blackberry. Glad we found the cache this time though.
Then on the walk back to Barnaby we were greeted with a quite stunning sunset over the almost mirror-still lake that kept us outside an extra 10 minutes with our cameras. A magical moment. TFTC

On my way towards Napier I came along Lake Tutira and decided spontaneously to pick up some Caches around, because I had time and the area is really nice. After I'd found the drive through Cache at the Arboretum I parked my car at the southern lakeside at went out for a Little stroll. The weather was nice and I really enjoyed the walk and the caches.
It wasn't easy to find the right Access, but after a while I was successfull.
Thanks a lot for the Cache.

After a couple of enjoyable, though warm days in Gisborne, we are heading south to Napier and have a list of caches to find en route.
Good to find an older cache on our trip - which probably explains the low terrain rating. Geocachers were built tougher back in the good old days! We were expecting the track to take us straight there, so had to back track to find a way to GZ. Left a TB. TFTC.

#12035. We had a bit of trouble working out how to get from the track to GZ, but we got there after a bit of trial and error. TFTC.
Ninalila and I have few days off to visit Whakatane, Opotiki, Gisborne and Napier.
During those days we enjoyed a lot of different calm and beautiful places, views and landscapes.
At the same time we enjoyed our time with geocaching to find good spots so we can discover things we don't usualy see when you travel at touristic places
We logged with our team name : Lekiprokos
Thank to all owners for the caches and the discoveries.

Thanks for the cache. I found it on 27/02/16 at 3:48 PM. Quick find at the end of the geotrail.
We found this cache during our drive between Napier and Gisborne.
The lake is beautiful place and it was very enjoyable to visit.
Thanks for the cache.
Greetings from Portugal.
#9927, Found it with DroidCachebox!
We visited this cache during our trip through out New Zealand!
With our rental car, we explored the north island for 12 days.
NZ is a beautiful country and we really enjoyed our time here.
We hope to return one day and explore a little bit more!
Day 4 - Napier to Gisborne
The day started in Napier, where we explored a little bit of the city and looked for some caches. After that we visited many places along the route to Gisborne, like the Te Ana falls or the Mahia peninsula, and many more.
Thanks for the cache.

A lovely tranquil place to stay. Here's hoping the lake can be restored to a healthy state. Certainly a well hidden cache but didn't take too long to find. Tftc
This cache has not been visited since november. We found the right trail to the cachecoordinates and after some good searching we found the cache. The area is rather overgrown

This didn't take us long to find. The kids had brought their togs along so we're keen to get back to the lake to find a suitable spot and mum was looking forward to her coffee. Tftc.
Found this on the 26th October but didn't have reception to log it. Took us quite a while to find the right tree! We also weren't sure if we were meant to head off track or not as everything had grown back over! TFTC
Great find on a beautiful day. We planned a weeping mapu tree next here for our daughter when she was born 5 years ago and it was always nice to come visit this area. Cache is in great condition, dry and safe. Tftc
Left cache in position we found it (before we replaced container) which as stated in previous log, is 7m from the blackberry bush that the co-ords take you to. It is as the hint states, at the base of a tree surrounded by flax bush so widen your search a bit and you will find. Please make sure it is returned how you found it with all bags inside closed properly to avoid water damage.
Found this one today and learnt the history behind it. The cache has been placed about 7m away from the big blackberry bush that the co-ords take you to.
Replaced to container today with MorganEd and added a new log book which is double bagged. New swag placed in cache which has also been bagged to help avoid it getting wet.

Searched everywhere, or so we thought, within 20 metres of where the Garmin told me GZ was. So much blackberry, so many trees, so much flax, so frustrating. How can anyone find this one easy? In the end we gave up and carried on our walk to the old Pa site.
Number 99 find bit scratchy but not as much as I thought it would be. Cache contents are soaking wet. Needs new container
Great place for a cache. Had swans greeting us as we got out of the car. GPS bounced around but was quick find thanks to the hint. TFTC
A beautiful morning to be exploring this lovely area. No problems finding our way to GZ & not a spot of rubbish to be seen - well done to the CITO crew who were here recently.
Left a pet rock - a kiwi. TFTC Zukin & Lany

Nice easy find, we missed the blackberry and ended up walking straight up to the cache. As previously mentioned, everything was soaking wet. New container required.
Didn't take us too long to find the hardest part was climbing through all the blackberry thorns. Container had water in bottom and everything is wet apart from the new temp log which is dry. TFTC
Having read recent logs, I thought this was going to be quite a challenge. However, I seem to have been lucky to find the easiest route and made a quick find without being badly scratched.
