One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!!
Wow, how cool! Archived for over 10 years and still live and kicking Big Grin TFTC!!

On a short holiday, destressing and roadtripping up to Gisborne via a heap of caches.

Beautiful waterfall, truly a hidden gem that we'd have passed otherwise. Saw a couple of goats precariously balanced on the other side of the river which we only noticed when one moved. TFTC

School holidays, must be time for a road trip to Gisborne. And of course a cache or two.
Pity this is archived, well worth the visit and a break in the trip.

If you are into doing archived caches, try the Whereigo "walk in the park (gisborne)" GC5WWTM. There is no cache but it does give you a walk about the park. And maybe someone could put in a container.

All safe and well here. I would call this a cascade rather than a waterfall but let's not split hairs. Great views though the end of the pathway is now closed. TFTC

Cache is all in good order and the hint and GPS led us to the cache. This is an absolute must stop- the water is stunning and makes amazing patterns with all the different rock formations. We were lucky enough to be here to see a vertical rainbow, a first for us. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing night location Smile

Enjoyed our walk to the falls, and pleased to claim this bonus cache as well.

My second disabled cache!
Came up here to visit the caves. Man, there are heaps here!! My favourite was one of the smallest - start with a 20m drop into a hole, then along an really tiny stream, down a few more drops. It had huge - 20m high, to the ceiling, columns, like the power generator plants on Mars (Total Recall). Okay, enough about caving.

Nice to see some of the old caches are being maintained, even if they break groundspeak's rules (the 162m minimum intercache distance). This must have been here before the viewing platform was built.

We have logged a Disabled cache before [http://coord.info/GCVYQ4] but this is the first Archived cache we have been able to log Big Grin It has a great view of what's happening geologically in this river system too.

Thanks Taybee for replacing this cache on your recent visit - I would've been "gutted" to have found this one missing.

Choose this one to be my 400th cache (and ignored a few caches as I drove past them on the way here) - wonderful location, though we didn't carry on tho visit the falls due to an already exciting day and time was "getting on". Hope to visit the falls another day. We did, however, go down to the river (using the path mentioned in the description) and collected some water for the radiator from the rapids.

Found the cache on our 2nd ascent, with a bit of thought about the hints.

This was found on my second day in the Gisborne area. What a great secret place this is. Loved the legend.

Cheers for the cache.

Found reference to this cache from another one so came for a look at the page as wondered what was all about, and notice that it is in the same spot (almost) as a cache we did and got FTF lol - so have been here anyway. Was thinking we were going to have to come back.

bought the "home away from home' 7WED51 to Gisborne for 5 nights.. fantastic weather and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. we took the "scenic" route south on our way home and quickly found this cache...What a fantastic place to stop...this is what makes geocaching so much fun... bringing us to these places that we wouldn't otherwise know exist... shame it's archived.. although being a "secret" cache made it much more of a "must do"... thanks.. Smile

Thanks for keeping this one available to be logged, we finally got here, we missed out last time cause we didnt have the coords for this cache and requested they be displayed on the nearby cache, thank you for doing that, we had no idea this place existed, there was definately a lot of water coming over the falls today, jumping off or kayaking off these falls today would be almost certain death!! It was one of those give you goosebumps thinking about it moments, very impressive.

took a couple of pics but they dont do it justice!!

Came across some intriguing references to this secret cache on another cache page, so made the decision to drive the loop from Gentle Annie Summit Lookout travelling south past this cache, then through Wairoa and back to Gisborne. Made the short walk to GZ, found the cache without difficulty, then on to the waterfall lookout. It certainly is a spectacular sight. Thanks for showing us - we are very pleased we made the decision to come here.

What better way to celebrate our 600th cache than to do one that doesn't exist!!! It was a quick walk in the rain - the falls were a spectacular display today, and this was before the majority of the torrential rain. Would be great to see this one up and running officially - although the lure of a non-existant cache was part of the attraction! Thanks for the non-cache cache!

Why has this been archived? Deserves a wider audience.

Noted that there was another cache that was further down the road, but it was achieved but still available to be logged. Mrs Yeetrees reckons that she was last here over 30 years ago staying with family members who use to look after a stock station further down the road, she said that the falls today are only a small part off what it was capable off, Mrs Yeetrees used to jump off these fall which are a thing that is definitely NOT recommended, oh well still a great spot for a cache, TFTC TNLNSL (1582)

AAAAHHH we were just in the area today doing Gifted Enchantment and missed out on attempting this one, as per usual we did some research after we got home and found out about "the secret cache", are you allowed to post the coords of this cache on the gifted enchanted cache page so it wont happen to the next cacher?

cheers, will just have to come back and stay overnight next time.

Found this cache with a friend. It is very nice place and the log was still in good condition.
I am living in Gisborne and would be very happy to look after the cache as well as the other close by called Gifted enchantment GCMJDK. It is a pity indeed not to have them active because they are in very neat places. SL TN left 10cents NZ coin

Thanks to nzcoozer for telling us about this cache. Read the story as suggested and liked the legend. Surprised to find no other logs in the cache.

Thanks to YuGeo4 for pointing this cache out to me, and of course thanks to Beauty and the Beast for setting it up.
A nice stop on the way to Gisborne.
Cache was well hidden. Log sheet was nice and dry.
A good view of the falls.
Thanks.

HELLO EVERYONE. THE CACHE IS STILL THERE, SO FEEL FREE TO ATTEMPT TO LOCATE IT (YOU CAN STILL LOG IT).

WE'RE LOOKING FOR A LOCAL WHO'S KEEN TO "MAINTAIN" THE CACHE - AS WE DON'T LIVE THERE, AND NEW RULES OF GEOCACHING PREVENT US FROM UN-ARCHIVING IT.

01-Oct-07
Made a new cache and YuGeo4 offered to replace it. In place now, ready for more action.

Easy find after our third rescue mission on behalf of Beauty & the Beast today. Cache has been hidden in small hole flush with ground, at base of strainer post at track summit, on the way to the falls lookout platform. Note this strainer has wire stays and not a wooden one. Cache has been covered with leaf litter.

Been to these falls a few times before. Quite an awesome sight today, well worth the visit. Thanks for another excuse to revisit them B&B – Cheers YuGeo4.

T(Photos)L(Cache)SL, Thanks for the views.

Hi everyone,
Sadly, we are archiving this cache until we are back in the area. All we can say is "we tried!" As it is a place well worth visiting, we'd love to get it up and running again, it just hasn't worked out this time.
Happy Geocaching,
Beauty & The Beast

Next person, please try the strain pole at the highest point of the walk. We might need to look at replanting this one.

Hunting with TechnoKitten... climbed this beautiful location.. found the strainer.. found the hole.. found all sorts but not the cache..
Never mind... It was a great place to stop the bike although I did swelter in the leathers climbing and hunting..!!!
Will try again next time around the coast..

Yet another amazing spot visited thanks to geocaching
We hunted but only found an empty hole in the ground to the immediate left of the strainer..... lots of dead marines lying about so guess this one has been nailed by a drunken muggle
