Day 2 of our epic Auckland to Napier and return caravanning road trip during the school holidays. Staying the night at the campsite and attempting this cache on the way. Hint is the first word but nothing else. Took a while to find it - had to be careful. Cache was full of mud, but cleaned it out, dried, signed and returned to a similar position. With miniAG. TFTC
Nice spot a few people camped here fir the Easter holidays nice spot cache wet but otherwise good
I have no idea what the hint referred to.
It took me quite a while to find the container- i can see why you wouldn't want kids doing this one.
Thanks for putting it here for us to find

Cool camping spot. Quite a few making the most of it. Dot came up with the hint and made the find. Tftc
Another cache for my nieces before the go home today.
Log slightly wet. Recommend to bring a pen as the pencil that is with the cache isnt very good

Tftc. The kids loved the mud!! What a great spot. We will definitely be back in to stay here
Stopped here on the way to Gisborne this afternoon. A short walk to the interesting old bridge and a quick find thanks to good accurate coordinates and the explicit hint. Signed log, TFTC.
A nice quick find today. Great parking and no one else around.
Christmas holiday road trip to Auckland. Day seven, from Gisborne to Whakatane.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Heading to the Mount Monster after a fun Surf Life Saving training camp in Gisborne. Keen to pick up a couple of caches while travelling through the gorge and this by chance happened to be one.
Great place to stop for a short break. Would recommend this to other cachers passing along this road. TFTC

Busy spot with the lawn mower men doing the grass but just out of view. interesting bridge.
This one has eluded me on a previous occasion but I stopped here with my snail shell for a cuppa and and a cache.
I found the cache first then had the cuppa before continuing on to Gisborne.
Replaced the full log with a new empty log.
Cheers for the cache.

We are stopping for a few caches as we drive to Gisborne from Opotiki where we spent last night. This looks like a nice spot for camping. We walked along the track to GZ and soon realised where the cache would be. One of us carefully retrieved it and signed the log. TFTC
Took me a while to get on line after finding this one. It's a nice drive through the Waioeka Gorge and this is a great spot to stop. Think like DoC is a good way to find this although on this occasion it was quite easy as the container was out in the open. Log is a bit damp but useable.
A quick stop here and a walk to GZ, Viv spied the cache before the hint, so hid back more covered.

Thanks for this sneaky one!

Last day of a 3 day roadtrip with jgirl1880. Tricky find. With the rain setting in again we were just about to give up when jgirl1880 spotted a flash of orange. Log quickly signed then back to the car for shelter
Nice find. Nearly gave up as couldnt find anything to do with the clue. Just as I was leaving something caught my eye and there it was log signed.
Out with Red Roaming as we continue to explore New Zealand on our holidays here. loving this spectacular country. Logs signed with our full names or DD & RR to save space. The weather to day is lovely and sunny but a bit of a breeze.this took us an age to spot but eventually got there. TFTC
Cache found and retrieved, but this wasn't a quick one! Having walked up to this magnificent old bridge and wandered around DD soon spotted something which wasn't quite like the hint...., and then we saw what we wanted! Seconds later I had retrieved this tucked away cache to our great relief! Thank you for bringing us to see this wonderful bridge! Many thanks
Travelling around the world with Dartmoor Deliverer celebrating her taking early retirement!
NB Dont forget our Devon UK Mega 2017 GC6JZNY this August in the beautiful East Devon area of our county. UK Megas are over one week full of events and geocaching - a wonderful way to enjoy our county!

Shahuhugrub found it, figured out hint at same time as spotting something a bit suspicious, TFTC cool place
Found this with EJinNZ. Took us ages! Finally money son figured out the hint. Just had to find it! Camping the night here. What a lovely spot. TFTC.
After a great Christmas lunch, the thought of heading off to grab a few caches sounded like the perfect idea. Went past here a few weeks ago, but had run out of time to grab the caches on the Opotiki side of this gorge, so the plan was to finished it off today.
Thought this one could be a issue as a few muggles were camping/swimming here, but GZ turned out to be far enough away from them, for the muggles to be a issue. Started the search, and then had to wait for a muggle family to pass before continuing on the search, so used that time to check out the structure. Once we had GZ to ourselves again, the numbers were located and the cache was found soon after. Thanks for the hide.

Looks like a great place to go camping a bit precarious retrieving this but all good. Great day caching with frewilys
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... After five months of grief, it's time for another serious attack on our current caching license. We're heading east to target seven high difficulty caches, and anything else that catches our attention...
It was raining heavily when we arrived. Surprisingly, the wet weather didn't deter the campers from pitching their tents... I didn't understand the significance of this location until I read the cache description. On first appearance, this looked like a fairly modern bridge. It is now interesting to consider its age and historical significance. We took a while to find the cache here. Got it eventually... TFTC.

Took a spare waterproof log with me and replaced the old one which was a bit damp and fairly full. TFTC
Log sheets have room, some cachers could use back of a long log sheet that's been in there for a while. We dried them in the sun, then positioned rocks by the container and walked away happy we had stopped there! Wish we could camp! Richie the Dog is a good geocacher!
What a nice area, we really enjoyed it, it was great to o the short walk towards the cache, bread some fresh air and take a look at the views.
Thanks for the cache.
Greetings from Portugal.
#9948, Found it with DroidCachebox!
We visited this cache during our trip through out New Zealand!
With our rental car, we explored the north island for 12 days.
NZ is a beautiful country and we really enjoyed our time here.
We hope to return one day and explore a little bit more!
Day 5 - Gisborne to Rotorua
The day started in Gisborne, where we explored a little bit of the city and looked for some caches. After that we visited many places along the route to Rotorua, mainly along road trough the Waioeka gorge and in the coast.
Thanks for the cache.

Our last cache of the day, we stayed overnight at the nearby campsite. We had to search long before we found the cache. We had not read the info in the listing otherwise we would have changed the log as questioned, sorry.

Thanks so much for bringing us here, a really interesting spot, even if we hadn't found the cache. We were about to leave when the spot revealed itself to Steed. Cache all good with room on the log. Just finished signing when it started raining -yet again!
A plan was hatched for a lonely cache adventure and a cluster of cachers soon signed up. After a 4am start we met up with the others and after a brief planning session and caffine top up, we were on our way. We clocked up a few miles and the 4WDs were a handy TOTT to enable easier access to some of the caches (probably why they are so lonely) and both looked well travelled at the end of the day.
Always a pleasure finding an old NZ cache especially when a bit of local history is shared, thanks for this one TFTC.

THis weekend just back from the OZ Mega 2015 I was once out and about caching with friends. This time it was ROSMAR, 11HPG11, & again Alpenmilch80 who was along for the test driving of her new beastie and trying to get a hang of some back country roads.
Drove in here following a bit of cross country work and saw the old bridge, hard to comprehend the difference this old piece of engineering made to the area all those years ago
So again thank you for the FUN of the hunt

Out and about today with 11hpg11, rosmar and Cats&Dragons to find some lonely geochaches (distance & last found) in the area. I was very keen to join when I caught word of the plans to give my new car an off-roading practice run. The end result was a very dirty car and a happy owner. Had an awesome time out with the crew.
No bridge was harmed during the location of the geocache... TFTC

Another mission, a new area this time. The plan was to do some off-roading and 4x4 caches, plus a few others in the area. Cats&dragons and I set off on Friday night and had an amazing light show of sheet lightning and heavy rain. Our spirits were not dampened though and we made the long slog to Opotiki. We worked out our plan of attack for the next morning and found a few great looking caches to check out. We were meeting up with Rosmar and Alpenmilch80 in the morning before heading to some wild country.
Second Howe-truss of the day. Nice to see the bit of restoration work going on with it at the moment. Managed to get in and sign the log without too many problems

A good hide, while I was looking elsewhere, Wazza9 had in hand, signed log, showed a couple from Denmark the game. Visiting from Australia. TFTC
Visiting from UK. Hired a sleeper car and travelling round the north island seeing the sights, visiting a few friends over here and hopefully picking up a few caches. Been up north and seen some wonderful sights, done some walking and learnt some information about the country and it's inhabitants. Came back to our friend in Auckland. Went to the Bunker Folk club at Devonport Monday night, excellent. Setting off for Gisborn to see more friends and visiting places recommended by our friend. Stayed at Matata last night now on final stretch to Gisborne.
Had a picnic here but workmen are working on the bridge and its taped off. Available soon I hope.

Whakatane trip, the mission was 48 geocaches in 24 hours. It was epic, we got 49. This was Number 3 find. Log was damp. a bit of off road driving, Dragon didn't have enough faith in Gems driving skill, she was a farm girl after all, she'll be right.
Early trip out of town so stopped to collect this around 7 am, beautiful area in the quiet of the morning. TFTC.
After a two day trip around East Cape and a full on weekend convention in Gisborne we are on our way home to Rotorua through the gorge. Lots of caches to pick up on the way.
In a previous life Mr S has camped here so he knew exactly where to go. DOC though, have cordoned off access and built a Bailey Bridge over the top of the old truss bridge. Don't know why. There is yellow tape and big STOP sign but the cache is still accessible because Mrs S spotted the hint and Mr S did the retrieving.
The ground around GZ has a few holes so care is needed.
Thanks Beauty & The Beast. Another smilie on our way home.

So glad we stopped and found it.. I went over this bridge in 1955. So it was good to see the OLD. Road. . pity you can't walk over it. Are they working on this. Or why have they stopped I wondered?
Thanks
Thanks
Found on our trip around the East Coast. Finding geocaches along the way was a bonus. TFTC
Quick easy find. The last camp site on our annual road trip around the East Cape. Printed out two logs only to find there are already new logs in the cache... Ended up using them on another one anyway. The bridge is still closed so for those who want to do the walks up to the huts etc you have 3 options. 1) Park at the campsite and walk through the river under the bridge and up the other side. 2) Make a dash across the bridge between cars 3) Park down the gravel road on the opposite side of the river to the campsite.

Most Christmas holidays involve a road trip of some description and this year is no exception. Today we were driving between Whakatane and Gisborne, and grabbing as many caches along the route as we could. Started off on the wrong level for this one, but once we had worked that out and Mr P made his way up there, the cache was eventually found after a lengthy search. TFTC!

As noted in previous logs the bridge is barricaded up for construction work. However, Mrs ToT quickly figured where the cache would be and we soon had it in hand. TFTC!!!
We stopped in here today on a very wet day. After initially approaching from the wrong altitude I adjusted myself, and soon had the cache in hand.
There was plenty of space in the log sheet which was in good and dry condition.
Thanks for the cache!

Hello! The cache is not on the bridge itself. The bridge has been barricaded for quite a while with a handful of finds and DNFs since. Maybe upping the difficulty is in order?.... If the next cacher can't find it, would you please log a DNF too, so that we have a better idea whether it's there or not? We don't usually archive caches with single DNF, so it's a team effort - please log your DNFs
The bridge is barricaded off and placarded as Closed. Looked for, but failed to sight the hint object. Maybe the owner should now reconsider this cache as the situation has obviously changed since the cache was placed.
Great spot for a Cache! Quick easy find on the way to Gizzy, a great place to stay for a night or two.

Didn't find this one. The bridge is now closed - too dangerous. Needs checking.
Awesome place for a stop and awesome place for a cache. Didn't print out a log book, but heaps of room for more. I gotta come back and camp here, maybe walk to the hut. One day...
Tired from driving I just pulled over here. This is a great place to spend a night or five.
Cache condition: dry and plenty of space in the logbook.
So long and thanks for all the cache! - 16:27 - koem

Lots of danger here, but that didn't seem to deter a car load of lads from climbing the barrier and walking the bridge. Found the orange and then the cache. No danger of falling here, assuming you have long arms. TFTC

Few people camping near here, and plenty of visitors stopping to use abilities, all on their way through to Gisborne for Rythm n Vines. Quick find, neat structure....wish I could go over it! Thanks.
Finding the orange numbers is certainly the key. Then cache fairly easy to find. Sorry forgot about printing a new log page out but there were plenty of spaces on the existing log to write in. Lots of campers turned up just as we got back to our car. TFTC.
Took a wee while to find this one, but once we found the orange numbers we were away!
Found thanks to the clue. The log book must have been replaced as there is plenty of room on it. TFTC and the history lesson
We found this while visiting friends in NZ. Beautiful place to visit and geocache. TFTC
Saved this one up for a special leap year/ 29th Feb cache find! Nice and quiet on weekdays - enjoyed the hunt! TFTC!
Interested in bridges, great engineering ideas here. Great spot takes you away from the road in this case. 4th for the day through the gorge TFTC
