Day three - Geo Toroa DunedinFinally the sun has decided to show its faceWith Queensland buddies, Snickersallan, chamad and Wollaston, BenM70, gcovernSigned log as QLD+1Thanks for creating and placing for our enjoyment
Our third and final day of the Mega caching with geofriends from Aus before we go our separate ways. Group consisted of Bluewattle, chamad, Wollaston, Willis007, kolour, Ardom, Gcoven, BenM70, and Snickersallan. Logs were signed as QLD+1.A big thank you to all the cache owners who placed this great amount of caches for our enjoyment and the benefit of the whole geocaching community.Apologies for the generic logs, as I rarely log them whilst travelling around the countryside and tend to do them once back at home.
Done to a T (Otago)Dunedin MEGA Monday and day 3 of some great caching with QLD caching buddies! More great caches to be found while exploring the beautiful Dunedin. Signing our logs QLD + 1 to save room, we were pleased to see most of the caches had been recently maintained and enjoyed a great variety of hides and types.A massive thank you to all of the COs for the preparation, placement and maintenance of these caches. TFTC KiwiChris# 10683CheersWillis007
Out and about with Willis007 and other members of the group QLD+1 finding solved puzzles and multis plus other targeted caches. We decided to walk up to the oldie at the top, picking up a few traditionals on the way. Logbook signed and replaced as found. Tftc

#21129 - 4:23:00 PM; Day three of the GeoToroa Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and our better halves. After a couple of nights in Queenstown, today we are headed across to Dunedin for the Mega weekend. On arrival, we met up with some other "Aussies on Walkabout" (McLookers, feathertop, Pheltern and Wombatwandering) to collect the four local caches published in 2000, along with some others we passed, before wrapping up the day at the Meet and Greet Event. Logs were signed/stamped "Aussies on Walkabout" or "AoW" on behalf of our group and then returned as found. After reaching the summit of Flagstaff Hill and signing the log for a challenge a bit further on, we stopped off for this one as we made the return journey. TFTC KiwiChris
An almost instant find with Gazania Rigens as the container could be seen plainly from the path.Re-hidden in the same place, but I found a suitable stone to put in front of it to preserve its modesty from the leering or condemnatory gaze of muggle passers by ??TFTC
As part of our Aussies on Walkabout wander atop Flagstaff Hill.Found with Mclookers, Phetlern, wanderingwombat, LuckyL10n and Sol de Lune. Up in the flax and untracked scrub. All good.Cheers
Found today with feathertop, Sol de lune and LuckyL10n. Log signed Aussies on Walkabout or AoW.Thanks KiwiChris.Greetings from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia
Arrived in town from Queenstown and met up with the group of McLookers, Phetlern, feathertop, LuckyL10n and Wombatwandering and headed off for the 4 old Dunedin caches. This one was grabbed as we up the hill and heading back from the nearby challenge. Many thanks for the cache KiwiChris...cache all good.
Found the cache as we headed back from the challenge cache. Im not a fan of flax either. Log signed Aussies on Walkabout. Found with Mclookers, feathtop, Sol de lune, LuckyL10n and Phetlern. Thanks for the oldie.
A quick find here as the cache was almost out in the open. We used to have two large New Zealand flax bushes in our front garden in Scotland. Planted by the previous owners. After today's caching adventures on Flagstaff hill I am glad we decided to get rid of the flax. It may not be as bad as gorse or nettles, but I don't think we'll ever be friends. TFTC!
Cache 1704 In Dunedin working on the Further Faster Otago Mountain Dog Challenge I have 3 peaks to attack while Im here, Flagstaff, Swampy and Mt Cargill. So of course Im going to Geocache while Im at it hehehe who would skip that opportunity So Chase ( My Geo pup ) and I arrived early in Dunedin this morning and Flagstaff was our first peak. We started the climb in the dark and was greeted with the most amazing sunrise the colours were incredible. This was a nice quick find in good condition T4TC
Out and about on day 8 of my South Island Tour and day 2 of "Wellingtonions Gone South: Dunedin Edition" with NZ_B, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri. The target of this day was mainly Flagstaff Hill, Mt Cargill and some other caches around the area. All logs signed as MINT. TFTC
A group of friends have traveled together to Dunedin to collectively target a whole bunch of caches, primarily because of their value in terms of Jasmer Grid filling, or for certain Challenge Caches that we have elected to try to achieve.M.M.I.N.T.T are Mr-Mcgoo, matagouri, Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, taybee nz and TwigNZ. Some logs were signed this way, some were signed as M.I.N.T for expediency, and some (mainly Challenge Caches) were signed with individual names. Our 'big' target for today would be a walk up to Flagstaff to get the old cache there as well as GC31PYY. We knew it would not necessarily be an easy day for a mixed ability group such as ourselves, but we were all keen to do it and worked together to help everyone through it.Having now done those, we were on our way back to the car. This was effectively a quick dart up a side track and a quick find by me at GZ. No issues to report here, and the team name was soon entered into the log before the whole lot was replaced as found.Thank you for placing this cache for all to find.
(# 8308) The Wellington crew are on another mission. Included are Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, TwigNZ, Matagouri and TaybeeNZ. As usual quite a bit of hilarity. Day 2 was more local. Nice day for a walk up Flagstaff. Signed as MINT.Thanks KiwiChris for bringing me here.
A visit to Dunedin by Wellington geocachers NZ_B, Itchyfeet2020, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Taybee NZ, and myself. Signing as Team MINT, targeting old caches, Wherigos, and whatever else we can find.A perfect day to be up Flagstaff Hill. Made this find with no problems at GZ. All good inside the container. Tftc!
Day 2 of our Dunedin Adventure. Six welly cachers have arrived with lots of plans and caches to find. Watch out Dunedin. Quick diversion from the track we were on to find here. All logs signed as MINT.
A quick find on the way back from the Old School Challenge. I looked at the photo spheres on Google Maps and saw this walkway in winter -i.e. snow. Im glad Im not walking then. Enjoying the bird noise as we walk.Day 2 of The Wellingtonians are in Dunedin tour with TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri, as well as TaybeeNZ who decided to have a few days of his South Island tour with us. We are targeting specific caches -oldies, wherigos (thanks to the Seagnoids new caches on the Wainuiomata Hill road in Lower Hutt), a certain jet and hopefully a certain bird. Of course, there will be days of laughter, no doubt at my expense During our time here, all found caches were signed as MINT, regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 5 of us hadn't found it previously, or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache KiwiChris.
Enough time for a noice wander over Flagstaff and with the whimsical hint the clear 400ml clear sistema was in hand to sign the replacement logslip once the blue was spotted just a few metres 'north' of the zero. I made a note of some keener co'ods for my records. No swag swapped and returned the RITR logslip to the bag. Coming from the deep South, anywhere up here is northwards so I had no trouble digesting the hint. Definitely one of those moments of 'Dude, throw your GPSr away' and look down. *Labyrinth **15pt** trad, 3rd bonus gem **50pt** **295pt*** Thanks for placing a cache here KC.

Hint confused me a bit because there no track coming from the South, really, it's eother N, W or E. So it should be more "if approaching from West" IMO.
Couldn't find it on the way to Flagstaff because of this mosreading the hint, but on the way back, made the find quickly. Another fairly old cache.
Kia ora! Paldies!

Jude_E and I stayed in Dunedin tonight. Today's plan was to complete the magnificent airplane art in the mornings. Mission A complete. After that we have a few on walks to find. Our walk started on the Jim Freeman track.
We decided to take a different way back so I am writing my log on the 1 km walk back. Thanks for hiding this cache KiwiChris I appreciate it.

Decided to do a hike today. Started off in Leith valley, headed up to Flagstaff then Swampi Transmitter and finally Jubilee hut in the Silver peaks. All up took us 8 hours. Had time to collect 7 caches but sadly had to walk pass many because of time. Also 1 DNF. Spectacular views once you get height up. Thankfully a quick stop and find here. Cache and log all fine. Thanks for the smiley
Arrived at GZ with a couple of previous finders and wasn’t having much luck. Started cursing flax bushes when a muggle was approaching. No wait, it’s the CO! After further searching the CO declared it was missing. A replacement cache was located in our kit and was duly signed and placed back where it should have been. Talk about good timing. On a side note I managed to get hit on my eye by part of the firmer part of the bush and had blurry vision afterwards. A visit to an optometrist later revealed a scratch on my eye. Should be ok in a couple of days but yet another injury to add to my caching career which is different to the usual scratches of which I got plenty today! Thanks for the cache and thanks for being on hand to replace it today!!
Planned to loop back on the track here but closed due to possum trapping. Bummer.
Re enabled because of the move to Level 2. Remember to observe all precautions, wash your hands clean the container before and after finding (or use gloves), take your own pen and probably best not to swap swag or take TBs unless you can do so safely.
Given that we are now at Level 4, I am removing temptation by disabling all my caches. Any logs WILL be deleted.
A lovely day which would should not be wasted. Messaged Eve07 to see if she was feeling up for a walk and after a debate in the car we decided to avenge my attempt of the bull ring flagstaff and swampy road round walk. 5 years ago I attempted it and at T for 2 area I fell down a hole and well doctors said that I would have been better off breaking it, 2 years it took to recover from that. I swore I wouldn't come back on own and Eve07 agreed.
We had a bit of a laugh but the lack of shade up here and lack of wind made it very hot hiking up these hills. Luckily we found along the bullock track some flax bushes tall enough to rest under out of the sun. By late afternoon near the pineapple track we could hear some noise, like a boombox .... but wait its the Six60 concert at the Stadium.

* 20+ years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20+ years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* All the 20s and now 21 as well!

Joined Grapea and co to find Ben Rudds II Hermit and 50% Favourited Challenge Caches and we passed this one on the way. Quick find on a stunning October Saturday - following a very cold and wet week. Tftc
All good. Fire was confined more to the slopes to the North East.
All good to go.
All good to go.
Not sure about the status of the cache until I can check it out, but it is probably toast, judging by the map of the affected area. Hope to get up there soon to check it out.
Stopped off her for a quick search to get this one snagged and tagged. Cheers. Now onto ' The Rambler'.
Its Saturday 27 April and our last morning in Dunedin. Its the Rambler Series and the Virtual in the harbour, in our sights today. Then its homeward bound with the team stopping near Christchurch for the night to snag some Lab Caches.
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Heading to the Ramblers Challenge. Stopped here along the way.
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

We are on our summer holiday driving around the South Island with no real idea of where we will end up each day. We are often drawn to an area that has the potential to give us a few geocaching smilies and somewhere we have not spent time exploring before. In some cases we are revisiting placed that we have been before but liked so much we are going there again.
While in Dunedin we were mostly searching for the old caches that fill a gap on our date placed grid and some Challenge caches that fill a gap on our D/T grid.
We were walking a loop to try to find two target caches for today, and this one happened to be in between them both.
Once we were in the correct area the cache was quickly spotted, we signed the log and returned it as it was found.
Thanks for placing the cache and thank you for the smiley

Gosh I can't believe it was almost four years since I attempted this last.. wow!! Anyway, decided on Flagstaff as a cool Christmas Day walk with mum, what a stunning day. Grabbed the geocache on the way up, quick find this time! Thanks! Merry Christmas!
A very wet foggy day up here with no view at all. Up here to complete the old school challenge and get our 3000th cache with KJR and couldn't waik past this one. Nice and easy find . TFTC

#6030. Had a workshop in Dunedin on Thursday and Friday and decided to stay on to do some geocaching over the weekend. So have hired a rental car. Today I am mostly going to walk the tracks up around Flagstaff Peak. Heading back to the car now but a few caches off to the side have diverted me. So hot up here today in the glorious sunshine. My legs were starting to slow down by this stage after 6 hours of walking, hill climbing and scrub bashing off track. Plus the water bottle had run out a while back and I only a few squares of chocolate for lunch. Well I had a DNF at this cache last time. Today I approached from the north and the GPS suggested I should stop and look there. I did and saw the cache within 10 seconds. Last time I spent ages hunting all around the intersection. Its a funny game. Signed the log book and replaced the cache where found. Thanks for the cache KiwiChris. Dropped off another TB here.
Finally I've found this one! No wonder because I hadn't previously looked in this spot because I expected it to be in other spots. Good to get rid of this one off my map. Thanks
Another dunnas road trip caching up with kjr. On a mission along the pineapple track nice quick find tftc
Lovely day for a walk on the Pineapple Track with BCD. I have never been up here before. A right Dunners stunner with just a little bit of a cool breeze. Nice quick find. TFTC
Took the Davies track to get up here while wearing shorts. Not my best idea. TFTC
Me, CJCurry and Hevic climbed up Flagstaff today and it was rough. And was also Ramble #2 for the Rambler's Reward!
Nice Quick find, tftc!
Nice Quick find, tftc!
A trip up the Pineapple track over Flagstaff has been on the cards for a while now, so Hevic, safetykat, and I made our way up and over today. Geocaching really is a sport - make a mistake or get a DNF, you get frustrated and end up making more mistakes and making more DNFs. So it was with some relief that after some "tilting" on my part, we found this one - though not in the spot(s) we initially thought - and I started getting my mind back on track as well as my body. Cheers!
I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Already back in Norway I realized that I would love Dunedin, looking at the different hiking-challenges in the area and all the old caches. Unfortunately I am getting close to the end of my travels, so I don't have as much time as I hoped for. I was originally planning to have 2 full days here, but quickly realized that it wasn't enough. I managed to squeeze in 2 more days, skipping some other plans I had, which I don't regret. I had an amazing time in Dunedin, doing lots of hiking and the weather was good all the time. Dunedin truly is a geocachers paradise.
Today was my 2nd day in Dunedin. I started slow by visiting the old caches in The Botanical Garden and Signal Hill. Then I did a circuit at Flagstaff Hill, before I finished off with a beautiful and easy walk around Sutton Salt Lake.

A quick find thanks to the good hint. Tftc
Ramble #3. Started hiking from the Bullring up to Flagstaff and halfway over to the Swampy Summit and back. Took me about 3-4 hours.

Had to wait for a few muggles to pass before getting this one. Lovely day up here today!
Travelled to Dunedin so Miss Jacksonz could receive her Queen's Guide award from the Governor General. Thought it'd be nice to pick up the Rambler's Reward while we were here, but it was hosing down yesterday. Weather not too flash today, but a bit of time between the Otago Early Settlers Museum closing at 5, and meeting our nieces for dinner at 7, so headed out here to do it as a run. On our way back we grabbed this one as well. Took longer than it should have as we had our directions reversed, but easily found when we realised the mistake. TFTC.
Thanks for the hint. Good to find it after a did not find. A lovely afternoon to walk up the pineapple track.
We had to head South from Nelson on short notice. There were a number of caches earmarked for a variety of reasons. High favorite count, date of placement, earth caches, d/t rating, challenges and unfinished business from a previous Canterbury raid all featured prominently. We did some too just because they were there. After navigating the detour traffic before, over and after the Lewis Pass we started caching. This was one of our finds around Dunedin. Our main target was the "Ramblers Award" cache but how can you ignore anything on the way? The cache is well hidden and was found by Holymu where I checked just before. I hate it when that happens. After signing the log we took in the views before completing the loop walk and finding some more caches on the way. Thank you KiwiChris
We had an unexpected trip to Otago, naturally there was going to be some geocaching involved but with limited time we had to be selective about which caches we would target. Flagstaff Hill was our main focus.
This cache was found on our loop walk from the Bullring carpark, it took a bit more seraching for than anticipated but was found in the end.
Thank you KiwiChris.

Dipping down now, into a great spot for a sit, drink...and a cache! Container in good condition, and found quickly...cheers
Third time lucky, and glad to have finally done "Done to a T". The first time we were here, a cacher who had already logged it came along the track and tried to help us- and even he couldn't find it! And yet, like most, when you finally spot it, it isn't that difficult. Did this as part of a little circuit up the Davies track and down the Pineapple, fun walk on a grey and damp Dunedin summer day.
Pretty keen to find this one after a DNF here last month, I'd been up here again on New Year's day, but didn't search for the cache as some muggles hanging around near GZ didn't seem in any hurry to move on. Came up here today via the Davies track (getting to know that track well now as my fourth ascent of it in the last few weeks) and found the cache after a good hunt around. It was at ground level, which seemed at odds with the description ... not sure where it was supposed to be, so I replaced it as found.
SL. TN. Dropped in a path tag. Thanks for the cache and for bringing me up here a few times KiwiChris

Doing part of the Pineapple track with Ruby the staffy. Arrived here and had a good look around, but not good enough obviously.
Thanks anyway KiwiChris. I will be back
Thanks anyway KiwiChris. I will be back
After a string of DNFs, I finally wagged off other jobs, cycled to the bottom of the Davies Track (quickest way to GZ) and stormed up. Found cache exactly where it ought to be, but obviously too well hidden, given the walk involved getting there. I will give a more explicit hint.
Wow this was a tricky one. Spent a good 15 mins searching all around in every place I could think of (tops of tussocks, inside the pipe, in and around the wooden markers etc.) Nothing. Had to flag it away in the end. Clearly not the only one who has come unstuck here.
Ummmmmmmmmmm nope. Guess it's there but by the looks of previous logs it is tricksie one. I'll have to come back another time.
I spent absolutely ages looking for this cache today. In the end I ran out of ideas and possibilities. I'm sure it's still there but just evaded me today.
Yeah this should have been easy. I had been so convinced this was somewhere else I lost the ability to step back and think a about it. Accepted an extra hint when it was offered and 'bingo.' As I say, it should have been easy. Ah well....
A long time ago I found remnants of the trashed cache. The real thing still eludes me! Bit of horse and broom popping up
Nearly forgot to log this cache. With some assistance it was found. Thanks team. TFTC
Found it once with a group of high school students on a PE excursion doing a "Geocaching" activity.
The morning group couldn't find it but the more persevering afternoon group found it no worries
It was a great introduction to Geocaching for 24x 15 & 16 year olds. TFTC

Finally found it, after at least 3 attempts. Great find with Sensei Misspod tftc
After many attempts finally happy to get this one GPS is out dropped a travel bug TFTC and the many trips up this track it has encouraged
If I wasn't with a friend who has already logged this one I might have been there for quite a while. It is well and truely tucked away.
