Found while doing the banks peninsula track. We were approached by locals see theroamingreliever entry tftc
We had tried to come down here once before a few years back. This time we were completing the Banks Peninsula Track over two days. We made it to GZ only to have a woman come over to us. She asked what we were up to. With my diplomatic ways she said she had done caching herself and we asked to continue. She may have been the land owner but was more concerned about the penguin boxes. She also said that if her husband was to come over he has no idea what caching was. So no need to go near them the boxes to find cache and it was a lengthy search. The track is amazing and is up there with some of the best parts of walking all of the Te Araroa Trail that I completed. Well worth it and a different type of tramping due to it being private. While leaving one of the local farmers approached us. He said that it was on private land and wanted it removed. I said we would make that so and have it achieved. We gave him the location of the cache and he was going to remove it.
As per the log before and to the request of the land owner this cache needs to be achieved.
A beaut day for a cruise around Banks Peninsula collecting memories and caches. Last for the day, the rain started to come down when we got to the Summit Road. A nice walk through the farm, kept a wary eye on the bull in one of the paddocks. Shoes and socks off to get to the cache today. Thanks for the hide.
What an awesome walk around the peninsula from Akaroa.......thanks for the cache, back to akaroa tomorrow
Went down to park car but a sign was up saying beach access not available. At the kiosk it said it was due to a storm and a footbridge being washed out. Will have to come back and do the Hinewai walks sometime and go for it then. Sign also said they were working on the bridge.
Ran out of light to keep looking, and the nettles got us.
Very muddy and deep river to cross. Must be a summer time cache
make sure you have lots of time.

Zowaar! Doing the Banks Peninsula Track and great there is a cache on the way! My most southerly cache up to now (and will stay so for a long long time...) Found it after about 10 mins searching, still in perfect condition. Thanks for the cache! Simone

With the opportunity to get away for a day and a half, I decided on a caching expedition to Akaroa and the surounding hills. This was find 22 of 39 and the first walk of the day. My first time to this bay, although my oldest daughter has been many times - her school friend's family owns the farm! A pleasant walk/jog down to the beach. The cache was soon in hand. TFTC.
Great place and nice track in and out. Found as part of a caching streak through the area. Nice walk and followed the markers in the more open areas. Manged to cross the creek without getting wet. Not a sole around, very nice. Took a little to find the cache and then completed the signing duties and repalced

Great location, after a pleasant walk. The beach was lovely today. Thanks for bringing me here.
TFTC. Loved this cache. A nice stroll through bush along the stream and then out to a fantastic beach. REALLY SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT TOGS AND TOWEL. Peaceful and beautiful. A favorite vote from me. 1166.
A great walk to this cache. On way back surprised to see bull in paddock we'd walked through !! Took us a while to locate cache but managed in the end. Thanks
This was a great walk through farm land down to the beach. After a scrabble and went feet through the stream we searched the hill for about 10 minutes, receiving numerous stinging nettle scars on interesting parts of our bodies. GPYes final got the find. Nervously avoided eye contact with what looked like a bull in the same paddock as the track... thanks for the trip!
Not sure why this is a puzzle cache, but it's a very very pleasant walk, and a lovely destination. Much to our delight there was a seal lazing on the grass at the beach - didn't seem fussed about us at all. Saw an eel in the stream on the walk back. We met the manager of the reserve as we parked the car - it's just so wonderful that this area is being preserved, conserved and shared with the public. Thanks so much for bringing us here. Greetings from Australia.
Thanks to those who maintain the Reserve and especially to the property owners who are comfortable with allowing access across their farm. Lets hope that no mongrels mess that up! Mrs K was enamoured with the walnut grove. TFTC TNLN
After we arrived our destination here in pensinula. We go to the farthest from home not on a island. And the short walk to the cache was very nice. TFTC
Mr Kiwi-Explorer suggested I'd come here, so I can't possibly say anything bad, can I? road was just fine, and I had to laugh at the love someone here has for making signs. Not long before I got to the Walnut Grove and had a grateful munch topped off by a juicy pear I liberated from the tree moments earlier. If I had the cooker with me, I would also have collected a feed of field mushrooms that are flushing right now. Easy find in a great spot. Then a slooow walk back. Just don't feel like rushing now. Thank you for showing me this place.
It was a fantastic walk on the BP track and I met 10 brilliant Kiwis there. on our last afternoon together we decided to go out for a hunt - it was the first one for most of them. Greetings to you, my Kiwi friends and many thanks for the great time.
We left a GC there.

Last of 10 finds around Akaroa today. Didn't manage to clear them all so we will be back. This was a pleasant walk which felt isolated until we came across quite a few campers near the beach. Lovely quiet spot to spend the summer holidays. Cache located no prob without gummies thanks to a log across the stream.
On my trip to New Zealand, found this nice cache on our Banks Peninsula Track, together with Kiekejan. TFTC.
We're on a trip around the world and for 7 weeks in NZ. Did the BP track, walked for four days in this beautiful corner of the world. Found this cache on the last day. We loved it here very very much! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Cache dry and intact. The driftwood family seems to have invited every cousin in the ocean for a visit. Thanks for bringing me here.
A really nice walk through the woods, but was not impressed with the final cache location as I got eaten by bugs. I had my big fall of the day and I landed next to a pile of dung. Streetwalker retrieved the cache. tftc
#1055 (6/10 on a Banks Peninsula day trip). A long drive down, and then a decent walk to GZ. Enjoyed the walk, but not the bank of drift wod that had to be crossed to get to GZ. Not sure where the "log" mentioned in the cache description is. Given this is an "unknown" type of cache I had thought I needed to apply a 30m offset when I got to GZ, but when I got there realised this is really a traditional cache. Great area. TFTC.
Lovely walk down the the bay, but was not impressed by the huge pile of driftwood guarding the way to cache, made access difficult.
TFTC.

An isloated and very beautiful spot. We enjoyed the walk down to the beach, it's great that private land owners allow such access. TFTC. +/- coin
Nice drive down, then a nice Flat walk to the beach, once the muggles moved on the cache was soon in hand.
Many Thanks Bitsprayer

As advised by cycling manager of Hinewai Reserve ( and cache owners there) came down to look at this bay. Log seemed to be missing and stinging nettles were a hazard. Slow find but enjoyable walk. Found mushrooms but took nil from cache
I caused Sevren to missed to the correct turn-off. It was a long way down the road and the walk was enjoyable. I saw a seal and It looked like it was posing for the camers when I got some photos of it
This was another of those roads I would rather have not travelled but managed to get down the road. Nice walk to the beach and the cache was grabbed while the beach going muggles were concentrating on the seal.
I appreciate the work and goodwill making access to this beach possible, and the cache owner for bringing me there.

Thank you for the georgeous walk down to the beach. We needed 20 Minutes searching to find the cache because we had a problem translating "log" . It was well hidden and is in good condition.

Well.. I burnt a lot of time finding this cache, I went to stony bay by mistake and I also took the wrong turn and went to the next major bay inlet to the north east.. I burnt a lot of time going down each ridge by mistake. But.. I found some of the most excellent places I have come across in some time in doing so I am quite glad in the same breath.. I highly recommend you take a day and explore this part of NZ.. truly lovely driving down into these bays and along the ridge-lines.
When I finally got to the cache it was getting real dark real quick so was in a real hurry to sign the log. I walked back under torch light finding my way back along the path.
I just loved this spot, so peaceful, so beautiful.
I had to cross the river to get to the cache so you need to do some rock jumping or get wet feet. You could walk all the way down on the NE side of the river, but the land owner wants you to follow the path which will take you to level with the cache but you'll be on the SW side of the river, hence needing to cross.
Don't use Google Earth for your background info on this area, it shows up roads which have been surveyed but are not actually there.

On the Peninsula to visit Mummy J for the Mother's Day weekend. Took the opportunity of some great weather to pick up a couple of caches before going for a harbour cruise. This was a nice, easy walk. There were plenty of cows and fantails to be seen. The beach had at least a dozen fantails flitting around. Cache was quickly found. TNLN, TFTC.
Nice wee walk out to the cache and a pretty little beach. Suspect it gets pretty exciting with a decent southerly swell being funnelled up the bay.
Never been so far out on the penisula before, thanks for the visit.

This was a lovely little walk - took us 19 mins at a brisk pace (for us!) Cache found quite quickly as PB seems to be developing quite a knack for spotting cache hiding spots while Annie is always on the wrong side of the tree or looking under the wrong rock! TFTC

That seems quite a long walk. We got there near dusk, so it was also a very quick walk. Luckily Liz found it quite quickly, and after a quick admire of the beach, we returned to the car. TNLN, Thanks.
Quite an easy find, after walking down the Lisburn Track from the carpark on Brocheries Rd. A sea-lion was guarding the area but hastened off to the sea as I approached. TNLN
Longer walk than expected but a nice one. Came here years ago while walking the track. TNLN
Was doing the Banks Peninsula Track so had to find this cache. Found after a while. TNLN
Found with the help of JimR who with myself and another friend were walking the Banks Peninsula walking track.Might have introduced another potential geocacher to the game and the information you can get from a GPS receiver tramping particularly with mapping features interested him.

We have regular holidays at Le Bons Bay not far away but this was our first time to Long Bay. A great trip. I look forward to coming back to wander around the valley and Hinewai Reserve.
Track to the Beach was great even with a baby stroller (had to portage a little at the start though).
Took Jandal Keyring
Left 100 Korean Won.
Cheers

This one really is a cracker. A short (15-20 min) and pretty walk through bush and farmland, and you come out on a lovely beach. A great example of a geocache leading you to a place you would not otherwise have visited. Thanks.
Found the cache no trouble, and left TB Fathers Day Crocodile as I am sure he would love a swim here. Hopefully next finder has a camera to record what a lovely spot it is.
We did the right thing after the cache, and had a nice refreshing dip. Very secluded - someone else had the cheek to position themselves on the beach around 800m from us - talk about crowded
Cheers

Took a little while to find as Stephen had to make an "inspection" of the cliff face as a cover for looking for the cache due to the muggles on the beach. Got stung a couple of times but no real harm. The coordinates put us close to a log but the cache is not exactly at 9:00. It was a lovely day to be at the beach but our togs (swimming trunks) where in Akaroa. TNLN.
Cheers Tazzie&Lizzie for making me finally visit Long bay. Co-ords took me straight to the cache plus a brush with some nasty nettle. Never mind. Loved the quiet bay. LNTN.
What a beautiful spot on a beautiful day. Thank you for finally providing us with a good reason for seeing part of Hinewai Reserve, plus we met Hugh Wilson (Reserve Manager) on our way in, as well.
AND...this is officially our 100th cache find!! WooHoo!!

Late afternoon at the Otanerito beach - cold breeze after the sun had set. But the trusty GPS homed straight in on the cache - clearly the coords are now the actual cache coords, and you don't need the hint about sitting on a log. Easy find in an obvious place - but one had to carefully avoid the ongaonga. No swaps - actually there seemed to be almost nothing there to swap anyway. Cheers from Grandalf.
As my wife and I descended the hill we were puzzled at the scrubby nature of the valley. We thought that the farmer must have fallen on hard times and couldn’t afford the upkeep of the farm. All was revealed when we reached the valley bottom - most of the valley is now a reserve and the land is being left to naturally regenerate back to it’s original state. The walk to the beach was very pleasant but GZ was to be merely a boot mark in the sand! Pity that cords were not given to the cache for the offset clue is pretty vague and leaves one with quite a large area to grid search. In my 15 minutes of scrambling around I soon became aware that the area is infested with onga onga (stinging tree nettle). This is nasty stuff. In fact, the entrance to the hidey-hole where the cache is, is “protected†by one of these plants! It is fortunate that there also is an abundance of the antidote relief for the onga onga sting growing close by to all the onga onga plants that I saw. That plant is the common dock plant – a low growing, large leafed plant that has a similarity to spinach. If stung by ong onga then take a dock leaf and crush it and rub over the stung area. TNLN. I have emailed the cords to the cache owner.
20050225 No print out, no PDA, no WAP = No cache. Walked down from top carpark = 5 or 6 km. Given coords are on beach. Searched by trees & on other side of stream. Nothing, so walked 6km up the hill again. (Posted by cellphone at 03:26-GMT)
I've changed this cache to a mystery type as the cache is not at the supplied co-ordinates as one would expect with a traditional cache and people are having trouble finding it.
It is an interesting ride into this cache but quite safe if you drive carefully. It is worth the walk into this bay - it is a lovely spot. the first part of the walk as you go through the bush is especially nice. It was full sun and everything was sparkling in the bay. there were quite a few people around so we had to be careful while we were looking. This cache is actually an offset cache and if you didn't have your notes with you, then you wouldn't have any idea where to look. we took coordinates at the cache site and these would be much more useful than the ones given here. It is a lovely place and certainly good to have a cache here.

Mmm gravel road. Fun fun fun Nice drive into the bay, soon found the park and did the 10 minute walk down to the beach. A very nice and secluded bay on a day like today. Looked at the likely spots, but didn't have any joy. The hint wasn't much help. But managed to find it by checking all the hidey holes. No exchange made. Cheers Gav [377/FTF]
