Revisited the site today. It has changed significantly from when the cache was hidden and is strewn with fallen trees. It’s had a good life but time to put this one to bed.

#4313:
What a spectacular place! I took a bus, train, bus, another bus, then ferry to get here. I am limited to public transport, as I don't have a car in Sydney. I love Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, and was very eager to visit again. The ferry across from Palm Beach was delightful, and I had the whole boat to myself! Some might even say I had a skippered charter...

The trail to reach the cache was amazing! Never before in my time did I have to lose the shoes and walk through a stream on the beach, and clamber over rocks to reach a footpath entrance. Absolutely magical.

The cache took me quite a while to find. I found the coordinates to be a bit out, and for some reason the hint wasn't showing on the app. But hey, at least I got it in the end!

A truly beautiful location, have a favourite point. TFTC.

It was beautiful day to make this find. I saw a wallaby, a goanna and (possibly) skinny-dippers at West Head Beach. Found the cache without any trouble, but it had water inside and the log was soaking to the point where signing tore the paper. I grabbed the Catch Me If You Can TB, but I couldn't see any sign of any of the other listed trackables. I tipped out the water and left a new strip of paper in a sealed bag, but it could really do with some TLC.

It was a great reason to get out and do the walk along this part of the National Park. TFTC.

After the virtual cache 'Whatarippavista!!' I decided to go for a second cache on the beautiful national park. Again it was a long descend down with great views on a number of secluded beaches. But it was still too cold for a dip in the water, so I soldiered on.
At GZ the cache was an easy find and I put a few travel bugs inside.

After finding Box Full of ....... I drove to West Head Lookout and left the geomobile there and followed the track along the coastline from there. I wasn't looking forward to all those steps on the return leg but they didn't seem so bad after all.
The views of Palm Beach were interesting, it seems everyone has a boat these days.

There was a Swamp Wallaby not far along the track. Smile We spent several minutes observing each other!
I passed West Head Beach and saw a couple of fishing muggles in a boat near Resolute Beach. They had a dog, Lucky. He jumped out of the boat and swam to shore and played on the sand, then he wasn't so lucky as they motored off and just kept calling his name. Poor thing had to swim behind the boat all the way to Mackeral Beach. He went at about the same pace as I walked.

Once near GZ the co-ordinates were good and I found the cache fairly quickly.

On the return walk as I wasn't watching poor swimming Lucky I enjoyed the plants. I particularly liked all the Xanthorrhoea many of which had spikes almost ready to flower for the spring birds.
Another great walk! Smile

OK so first up, I accidently STOLE the pen. Only worked it out when I returned to my boat. Could 'next to find' please take a pen they could leave in there??
Great spot. Had to fight a spider for the find and pricked my fingers on the camo. Good hint. Boulder in the path also helps mark the spot.

Great find on some great trails. Headed down from the west head lookout. Could not go direct to Great Mackarel as the trail was closed, so went via Resolute Beach. Quite a walk, so stopped for lunch along the way.

Finally arrived, I think almost immediately after another set of cachers had just found it... what are the chances?

Had to search for a while but eventually found it with a good helping of camo on top. Coordinates and hint are accurate.

Looking forward to checking out the beach.

Thanks for the cache!

What a lovely place. Jumped on the ferry after finding the cache at the basin. Then it was nice walk along th beach. That hardest part was figuring out how to cross without getting my feet wet. Cache was soon in hand. Then went for a walk around “town”. Thanks so much for bringing me here.

Always up for doing something on New years Day I took my brother up on his offer to take us boating. We launched at Brooklyn and as we cruised around looking for good fishing spots I mentioned that there were a couple of caches I could get on our travels Razz He ever so kindly got the boat up so nice and close I only had to jump across some rocks to begin my walk up the trail to the cache! The coords were pointing in another direction when I stopped to take in some views. Lucky for me that I did, cause when I looked a bit down and around I spied the cache! TFTC Tyreless.

In one of those spur-of-the-moment decisions, I decided to forego watching the cricket (just as well as it got washed out again) and instead took the ferry from Ettalong to Palm beach and then another smaller ferry from there to Mackerel Beach.

After trying fruitlessly to find the track to the Mackerel Lookout cache from the southern end of the beach (apparently this now passes through private property and is officially closed), I instead headed north and soon came upon this one.

From there, I continued along the track past the Resolute Bay turnoff and up to the top of the headland for some photography.

Many thanks for the hide and bringing me to this pretty spot.

Came on this beautiful spring morning after a successful find down the flint and steel track. Although I've been to West Head lookout many times by car and by bike (I even got married there), I've never made it down this track. So pleased that I made the effort as it has some spectacular views across to Palm Beach.

Made a navigation error by heading half way down to WH beach. Paid the price coming up the steep steps. Encountered a couple of goannas on the way and made it to GZ in just over 30min. iPhone was pointing me in the wrong direction but I paid more attention to the hint and soon had CIH.

Plenty of people taking advantage of the nice day at the beaches. I encountered what seemed like a miss-matched battle between a bird and large goanna on the return trip. I was pretty warm by the time I made it back to the car. 1 hr and 15 minute round trip.

Thanks for maintaining this cache Tyreless!

Thanks for getting us off the beaten track. As the last person said, it might be worth updating the description of the container. The coordinates didn't quite match up for us either but it's a great little hiding place. Thanks!

06-Jul-16
Today we headed out to West Head for a bush walk, and to go in pursuit of this cache. Parked the geomobile at the West Head Lookout, and then followed the "Resolute Track" and "Mackeral Track" all the way to GZ. It was a pleasant walk, albeit quite steep in places, with lush green foliage and good views over Pittwater along most of it's lengh. Took us about 50 minutes to reach the cache location from the lookout carpark.

We searched around GZ for a few minutes before finding what we thought was the cache container buried under leaf litter. But it was just the lid of a caching container, complete with official geo sticker and the name of this cache "2108" written on it. No sign of the rest of the container, and we were worried that that was all that was left of the cache. But then we spotted a slightly less buried container stashed in a nearby hidey hole, and on closer inspection it was indeed the one we were seeking, giving us CIH. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found.

The other container lid is obviously from an older container for this cache, so we put it back where we found it. The new container type no longer matches the container type indicated in the cache description, so the cache description should really be updated.

We then continued along the track and down onto Great Mackeral Beach, where we considered treking to the two other caches ("Kuringai Carvings" and "Mackeral Lookout") at the other end of the beach. But it was getting a bit too late for that, so we headed back up Mackeral Track and back to the lookout.

Thanks Tyreless for the enjoyable bushwalk, and for the cache.

We spent the day out boating with family in Pittwater. Lucky for me this beach was the chosen destination for a bbq lunch. Once ashore I quickly found the track leading from the northern end of the beach and raced up for an enjoyable find. GPS was bouncing around a bit, but the location is fairly obvious once in the vicinity.
The views along this track are great and i took a few photos before heading back.
Thanks Tyreless

Packed a picnic, hired a boat and set off for a day on Pittwater - no caching intended !

As we pulled up to the deserted each and unpacked the picnic, I took a sneaky look at the phone.....there was a cache 112m away, how could I not hop on to dry land to collect it?

This is a spectacular spot, one of new favourites!!

Late log (how could I forget?!)... Found on a very sunny Valentines Day with my girlfriend. After a picnic lunch, watching a goanna intrude a wedding party, scrambling along the rocks to the little beaches, and having a nap in the shade on the beach, we came down to this one to make a relatively easy find. Fantastic day out, TFTC!

28/11/15. 1:00 PM. Cache #3242. Streak day #524.
2nd of 2 caches (Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park).

I felt like a bit of a walk today so I came up to West Head, where there are a couple of caches that I hadn't found. I warmed up with the shorter walk first - the Flint and Steel track to find "Box Full Of ....". After that, I drove up to West Head Lookout for the longer walk to this cache.

I took in the gorgeous views of Broken Bay, Pittwater and Barrenjoey Head before heading down the track. The sign at the start said it was a 2hr return trip. I balked at first as I didn't really want to be out that long, but I guessed that if I set off a good pace I should be able to knock that down to a shorter walk.

The track was nice and wide to begin with, with lots of steps going down (I kept in mind that the return would be less pleasant as a result, and one muggle that I passed going up was complaining about all the stairs...I reassured him that he was almost finished).

The track levels out a bit more later on where it then wraps around the coast passing West Head Beach, Resolute Beach and Mackeral Beach, but it was now much narrower - more or less a goat track, which required a bit of rock hopping here and there. But my cracking power-walking pace was paying off - I got to GZ in about 40 minutes.

I started searching north of the track as the pin on the map showed up there, but after about 5 minutes I checked the hint and saw that I was meant to look on the other side. The hint also pointed out the obvious features, so from here it was an easy find. I signed the log, replaced the cache and then decided to head back instead of visiting Mackeral (I have been there before, though).

Mackeral Beach would only have been another 2 or 3 minutes walk from the cache, so the estimate (from the sign at the lookout) of a 2-hour return walk wouldn't have been all that different than the return walk from the sign to the cache. Yet I had done the first half in 40 minutes. Would I be able to make the return in the same time, taking into account a bit more up than down - and a bit more fatigue? Yep, I did - I managed to turn 120 minutes into 80! Great exercise and more great views - another fave point. TFTC.

With the geodaughter I went for a walk from the Resolute picnic area to Mackerel Beach. Lovely day and as we approached the beach I checked for caches and this one was only 12 metres away. Went up for a brief and futile check before the patience of my travelling companion wore thin so we headed on.
On the return I left her at the bottom to put her shoes back on and I went on the hunt again knowing this time I was on the wrong side of the track last time. Got in the right spot and saw the cache, not the easiest to retrieve but not tricky. Signed as first in the new logbook.

Thanks!

What a great day - walked in from West Head and spotted a beautiful Lyrebird along the track. We stopped and filmed and gawked for 10 to 15 minutes as this little female had a good root around in the leaves for lunch - she went off with a massive beak full of worms, there may be a little one around somewhere. The cache is in excellent condition (thanks to Jendid and tyreless I think) and has lots in it. It also some more now - a Rolls Royce keyring, stamps, Monorail token (collectors item in a decade or three). Continued the walk down to Mackreal Beach - walked around then back. All in all an excellent day and a great cache and this gets a point from me. Well worth doing, you will not find views and bush much better than this so close to everything......

Coordinates changed to:

Distance from original: 53 feet or 16.1 meters.
I checked the cache - thanks to Jendid for cleaning it out. Put a couple of swap items in and took two TBs to move on. It's still in good shape 6 years after Charl first hid it.

The hide is getting exposed so I have moved it to a new spot close by - it's a bit of a more difficult to find now so I have upped the difficulty.

Canoed over yesterday, Saturday the 17th, it was a beautiful calm day for a paddle, which was just as well, it's a fairly long haul but worth the effort. This is a beautiful little beach only about an hour from the city centre. The cAche itself is not exactly on the beach. I left two trackables that I have been carrying around looking for a beautiful please to drop them. This is it! I hope they don't have to sit out the winter here, but if they do it will be a nice sheltered spot. I took a little book of inspirational thoughts.
The cAche was found right out in the open, it has been replaced properly. The cache disappointedly contained rubbish and junk...bus tickets, a cigarette a broken broach ...a chewing gum stick a that had melted. Please people...if you have nothing to leave, leave nothing. Finding rubbish and junk is just sad.

Walk along the main path from the North end of Mackeral Beach towards West head. Look for a path leading off to the right (down the hill) towards the beach. Follow the path a couple of metres and look for a crevice between large sandstone rocks on the right. Uncle Gavin found it on the second attempt. The cache holds a large trove of local and international treasures.

Did not find it Sad
We came within about five meters of it but all around us was bush an the trail we came down on. My uncle didn't have boots on so he couldn't venture any further. He wants to go back with my dad and hopefully they find it then.

I came in from West Head following the track along the coast. It's an outstanding walk, if a little unkempt - the smoky haze across Sydney seemed to lift as I wandered along. The little beaches are lovely and there's a WW2 fortification en route. The cache was a bit tricky to find owing some accrual of camo but it was soon in hand. Took GC. Thanks Charl and Tyreless.

I walked over from West Head along the coast, stopping off to check out Resolute Beach on the way. Really nice bushwalk. Got a fright a couple of times as wallabies thumped away through the bush at close range.

Found the cache, which is of a good size. It's a great spot with nice views.

I returned to my car on the Resolute Trail which is a more direct route but passes by an aboriginal midden and some carvings. All in all a really excellent and relaxing walk.

Last cache for the day as daylight was fading, and rain was still steadily falling. Continued riding my mountain bike from Resolute Day area (I didn't see any sign blocking riding), and got as close as I could - which ended up being stairs above Resolute Beach.
