As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Looks like we need to do some maintenance

29-Jan-09
Was looking to do this, but given the number of recent DNFs in the previous logs I'd say this one needs to be marked as "Needs Maintenance".

Look forward to completing this one after the cache owner has checked up on it. Smile

GeoJim and I went across ourselves this morning, armed with a whole array of tools and tricks. Had checked coords and definately know we are looking in the correct place - after a few years on our O-boats Jim knows his periscopes and as an archaeologist I've dug out my fair share of drains. We had to use all the tools available to empty the drain but all we retrieved were needlesticks (yikes), crushed cans and heaps of twigs and small branches. Got it down to bare earth and definitely no cache therein Sad. Will email owner as it looks as though this one has gone walkabout.

31-Dec-08
Second attempt but no luck again either. Special tools didn't fit so will have to check our calculations and come back....again.

30-Dec-08
Sent two teens over to flush out the cache but they came back empty handed - advised that special tools required so will come back later. The clue made sense however so we are fairly confident.

I am afraid we didn't fare any better than Sol de Lune. I collected the waypoint data a couple of months ago, only missing one WP, but deducing what the answer must be. Pa Katastrophy and I returned with our trusty conveyance today to visit GZ, but were sadly unable to find the cache.

16-Dec-08
Well, today was the day that the 'MV SolAus' was launched and had it's maiden 'voyage'.

We decided on a short trip to start with.........to test the lake worthiness of the craft, ensuring that it didn't leak and the oars actually worked........i.e. they sent the vessel in the right direction. WinkWinkWink

Everything went resaonably ok. We made the first crossing without incident, however, on the way back, we did fill up with water, but unlike the Titanic, we stayed afloat. (If any other cachers were part of the Christmas Parties/BBQ's that were being held on shore, don't panic, all the circling we did was actually part of the testing. Red FaceRed FaceRed Face ).

Oh........and BTW..........we couldn't find the cache....but will re do our calc's and come back another day.

Another fun day out caching..................

1st of 3 similar terrain caches found today with Firefly. Confession to make ... we didn't find all the waypoints but figured out the general location of GZ and went hunting. With special equipment on board and limited time, we decided GZ was more important than the journey on this occasion. We got lots of funny looks from adults but the kids about didn't seem to think we were strange at all -they understand fun when they see it!

Had a great old time finding this one with Green Fairy, brought back a lot of memories from a few years back when a blow-up dinghy used to provide us with hours of entertainment. Our steering could use a little work, but had a brilliant time none-the-less. TFTC!

06-Jan-08
Found all the clues and the cache in the company of McPhan who brought along the required equipment to access the cache. Very pleasant wandering around in the early morning to locate all the answers, chatting as we went (have you found that one? What about this one? Wink ) You know how it goes! A quick trip over to find the cache, well hidden and guarded by a number of swans and cygnets who moved off when we arrived. A great cache. TNLN Thanks S's.

910. A memorable cache for a number of reasons - the location, the puzzle and the company. My involvement was minimal as winglen between them worked out and found all the bits and pieces. Well put together and a great morning to be out.

TFTC and the exercise.

Found with SecretSquirrel-BJC.

Third of four caches this morning. Enjoyed getting there and then an easy find at GZ.

677 with Captain Tomato

Thanks S's. Geocaching is life-changing. I now have a bike and today I went paddling!

What a beautiful paddle across the lake to the little island from "Mt Springbank"! Beercan on top of cache is great camo.

I don't want to say too much to give it away, but all I'm going to say is that we were attacked by birds afterwards... lucky i had a long stick in my hands!

Found during 'Tactical Dispersal', It was great day, and fun event!, Good camouflage on the cache!

Thanks, Jezzza Xtreme

Time today to clear out some caches that have long been solved just never visited. A quick find that we found before the GPSr had even achieved a satelite lock. Had to leave our doggie in the Cacher, our mistake as we thought she would be allowed here.

16-Feb-07
Well, the last cache for SuperJaz and I today. Only our third, but they were all challenging - a combined terrain rating of 13.5 for the three caches.

I'd worked out the answers for this one some time ago, but was waiting for the right opportunity to get the cache. That came along today when we got a kayak to hunt a couple of other off-shore caches.

Wandered around for a couple of minutes, before SuperJaz looked in the obvious spot and found the cache.

It was a beautiful morning to be out and about on the lake, thanks very much to The Ss for the cache.

16-Feb-07
Well, I'm sure there are a few ways of approaching GZ on this one, but Bewilderbeest and I chose to do it without getting wet. And if we'd been co-ordinated enough not to splash each other with our paddles that would have worked out nicely. Oh well, it was a nice morning for it and certainly better than being at work. TNLN TFTC

Found while out with geodaughters. Only had time to do a quick grab/sign/go. TNLNSL. Enjoyed the bike around the penisula chasing down the markers. I was glad to see that I've done a lot of the 'winners' on previous hunts. Thanks for a fun puzzle.

Found with Frogdude - we had originally attempted this in early January 2007. By that stage the cache had been noted as muggled online, but the printouts that we were using were rather old. D'oh !! We had spent quite some time shivering and looking for that non-existant cache after 9pm. It was lots of fun trouncing all over Black Mountain Peninsula putting the pieces of the puzzle together to get there though. Anyway, better prepared clothing-wise and armed with the new co-ordinates, we were back out there tonight and success was ours. The new location does scream 'LOOK AT ME' !!! - I'd love to know what was involved in getting it there. Hopefully the muggles won't get too curious... TNLN. TFTC !!

14-Jan-07
Found @ 1.44pm with Fore!, Shadow! & Huxley the geo-hound.

Thanks to The S's for replacing this one - we did however find that our GPS had us 16m out. And, yes, we did use the new final location answer! Smile

We also made our way to the location in a different manner from our last attempt, appropriate to the hot weather of course.

We are also a bit conerned that this may be muggled again (there are other less obvious spots around GZ) although we attempted to hide it more effectively.

Took: Nothing
Left: frog

NB: The possum from our Christmas Eve attempt was still half-asleep in the same tree in only a slightly different position!

TFTC!

14-Jan-07
After having a go at this one on Christas Eve Day, without success due to muggling, allrounder, Shadow! and I returned to the scene of the crime. This time we came without our trusty vessel, and with our somewhat trusty geohound, Huxley.

A swim (ummm, next time I will take my shoes off, it's much easier that way) later and the cache was soon in hand. Huxley only found BBQ bones on the island.

Good to see that the possum is still there (same place, exactly). Oh, and the dog poo on the island is certainly not ours! Scoop after you pooches, people!

TFTC - took bouncy ball, left dinosaur.

14-Jan-07
Found with Fore! and allroundr and faithful geo-hound, Huxley. The pup really enjoyed this one and being with us. Nice easy find, but I'm sure will be muggled soon as the area doesn't offer many hides and the hide will attract attention. Possibly a less attractive hide opposite the old location might be more suitable as that area wouldn't promote traffic. These caches-types are great fun and I'd hate to see them disappear....

The final cache has been replaced, note there has been a slight change (Only a couple of metres) to the final coordinates it now is located at S35 AB CBE ,& 149 EF GGA. we have also updated the clue to reflect the new hide. (For those that attempted it on the old coordinates and no longer have their workings, email us for the correct result).

09-Jan-07
Looks like this one is missing, will try fo fix it up this weekend

06-Jan-07
Is the final cache intact?

04-Jan-07
I guess we should have read a few of the recent logs before we attempted this one. Had we done so we might not have bothered since it seems the cache is no more. Found all but two of the markers and Robmc managed to work out GZ from what we had. Stripped off and proceeded to GZ but nothing doing there. It was a nice walk and a very pleasant cool off at the end so all was not lost I guess.
Thanks.

04-Jan-07
We found all the waypoints except 2 but we managed to work where GZ was,
After figuring out what we had to do to get to GZ we were a bit disappointed to find that the cache had gone missing

04-Jan-07
Yep, I was with Chewin' and Oenze and they have explained we didn't find it. What they didn't explain was that it was a really nice walk around and very well laid out. Clues were not too hard to get (except for the one where the guys were fishing, and the ones we didn't find Smile). We back calculated the final, and were amused to see where it was. Fortunately it was a hot day and bugger all muggles around (or maybe they ran away at the sight of us Smile).
Pity about the final, but thanks for the walk and puzzle, Robmc.

29-Dec-06
Just wanted to post that I found all the markers. I'll do the math and see when I can get my equipment out and get to the final. It won't be today, too much hail, rain, and wind.

24-Dec-06
Travelled all over with allrounder and Fore! to be disappointed in not finding this despite finding a lizard and a sleeping possum (in the tree - see allrounder's log). Thinking it has been muggled after looking for over 30mins.

Attempted with Fore! & Shadow!

Fourth of four caches attempted today but the only DNF Sad

Between us we collected all the codes before doing the other three caches (8 Ball, Traumatised Tree & Missing Maze) then returned to complete this one. Figured out the puzzle with the co-ords pointing us to where we expected & were equipped to go.

Unfortunately despite some pretty intensive searching we were unable to locate the cache. May have been muggled as there were signs of human visitation.

We did however get to see some pretty interesting wildlife given the location of the cache.

Will contact the owners and re-try at a later date if possible.

I decided today would be a good day to cycle around the lake, but I overdid it a bit. I'm sunburnt and have some very sore anatomy! This was the 2nd cache of the day.

Solved all the clues, got the coordinates (I believe), but didn't have the right gear to get the cache. Will finish another day

This was very cold, but refreshing. The refreshment did not last because I also ended up feeling somewhat slimy. It was a nice east find by my geofriends who got there before me.

I found all of the waypoints a couple of weeks ago and worked out the GZ, but decided to wait for a warmer day to finish. With a predicted max of over 30deg today I decided this would be a good opportunity. But... I cleverly enticed Biggles303 and 2 of his geo-buddies to retrieve the cache on my behalf! They seemed to have a lot of fun in the process & were keen to check out other similarly placed caches - shame I didn't have any other coords with me. TNLN TFTC.

This cache was disabled the first time I looked at it. I thought it looked too complicated anyway [:0].

Well, it is now in action again. It is a great fun one to do on many different levels. I did most of it, down to finding the GZ in about 30 minutes. Some of the waypoints took a bit of finding due to overgrowth and many spots that they could have been hidden.

The final GZ was a big suprise. I had to come back and do this one later. Made it to the GZ. It was nice and warm. Found it quickly, signed and departed.

Thanks S's for a terrific, well constructed cache. Most enjoyable. TNLN.

Did this one some weeks ago. The cache appears to be missing. Have notified The S's and are awaiting their response after they check it out.

Found the clues (including the best one first!), but will have to wait til next time I'm in the country to finish it off.

28-Mar-05
Picked up a couple of clues at the The Annual Canberra Cache Awards - 2004 and thought this'd make a great adventure for the nephews. The location of GZ presented an opportunity for us to resurrect our old ply dinghy (which last saw water 15 years years ago on a trip down the Murrumbidgee near Wagga). Some sanding, resin and varnish did the trick. The Easter long weekend, some extended family, perfect weather, a picnic and ... into action.

Sam,6, read the GPS and pointed the way from waypoint to waypoint. Ben, 4, was uncanny in finding the clues. Mitch did the sums. Into the resurrected geocraft and onto GZ! Hurrah! And after all that Uncle Kevin makes the discovery ... Beudy Kev, waddabout the kids? eh? eh?

28-Mar-05
I grabbed this one back on the 1st of March. A tuesday I believe. I took a last minute decission on the monday to have the day off. And what a great day to take a break on, especially seeing as I found 3 caches.

The clues took a while to log up but being on a bike helped. Then there was a maths... Enough said.

At the cache local I spotted a mother and bady possum pair. Wedged into a tree fork having a little sleep, very cute! But not expected considering the location.

Thanks for detour in my day.

Yeehaa – found it first… What better than a wonderful cache event, than a cache to go along with it! This one started out easy enough, but that was only until the depuzzling started. After that I thought I was over the hardest hurdle, but no – there was one more surprise in store! Luckily I came prepared! Still – it was not easy going for a while there! Managed to find the cache in the end – but as I had literally nothing on me (except a GPS – which wasn’t helping), took nothing, and left nothing… MattS managed to commandeer someone’s boat there for a while, and even though that could have been handy, it was of no use to me! Thanks S’s for a well organised cache in a lovely location.

Congratulations to Bubble and Squeak for the winning cache "Sparkie". Congratulations must also go to Spindoc Bob for best photo taken at "Go Fly A Kite" and ThomasS for best location "Lanyon Loop"

After doing the puzzle and chasing ThomasS to GZ had to settle for being second. however I did get the TB. What a great site.
