Logs

23-Jul-22
Today, the primary plan was the hike up Kenilworth Bluff. An early departure had me driving via Montville, detouring past the northern side of Lake Baroon to check out the spillway. I then made a few driveby stops before arriving and setting off on our group hike and attending the *A Worthy Bluff Bug Bash* Event. It was a long walk around the bluff's plateau to the extent of the nature reserve, before returning back just as the light began to fade. I then made the drive back home connecting to the M1 highway via Gheerulla, following the quickest route.

Whilst nearby, I thought I would make a quick visit to this spillway, when I noticed this archived cache may still be here. I managed to find the hidden/lost track, and made my way down to some superb views of the spillway. With all of the rain that we've had, the spillway was letting quite an amount of water out!

I did spend a good 10-15 minutes searching around, although I didn't hold too much confidence since it had been nine years since it was last found. I was clinging on to the hope that my search prod, prod technique would make a clunk on to the ammo container, but alas, nothing was forthcoming. Given Team Benders had mentioned it took them an hour to find, and that was back in 06/2013, I was happy to have enjoyed the view, and moved on for the day, all the while suspecting that the cache was still here somewhere. Thanks anyway The Garner Family for the cache placement. Had I made this cache find, I probably would have also given a Favourite Point.

12-Jul-13
It was a beautiful cool morning and there was no one else around so I was able to make my way down to GZ while enjoying some beautiful birdsong and the sound of water going over the spillway. I found a track through some revegetation (where the old track used to be) and recent disturbance lead me straight to the cache. Take care of the bush in here folks.
The log was a bit damp but useable. Thanks Garner Family if you're still listening.

I love finding archived caches and when I saw that the mob from Meg#3 had found this one I just had to come and have a look for myself.
We must have searched for an hour before this one turned up.
Had to hide a few times as muggles coming to look at the spillway showed up and it was spectacular today.
TNLNSL TFTC Thanks The Garner Family Cool All good with this cache

MEG#3. This one had been archived but we thought we'd give it a go as we had ~20 pairs of eyes looking. It took a while but we found it. It was in good condition considering. Nice spot. TFTC.

Found with the rest of the group on the MEG outing today. TFTC

Definitely dragging the chain on this log...

Found when out and about up the sunny coast with the MEG#3 mob Smile

TFTC The Garner Family!

Thx to Crew 153 for providing the GC code so I could (FINALLY!!!) get around to logging this cache Razz

Out and about with the MEG3 mob. After a lengthy search that magic sound of hitting an ammo box was heard! A hooray was had at finding the well hidden archived cache.

16-Feb-13
This cache was mobbed as part of 2013's Mission Empty Glass (MEG) - tackling all caches in 'The Glasshouse Mountains'. Mysteries, Micros, Multis, Mountains, Madness, the lot. MEG#3, the Glass Borders, was a day trip around the outside of the defined Glasshouse Mountains. I put out the call if anyone would like to join me for the trip, expecting I'd hope a couple at least to share the day ... was joined by up to 27 of us at the peak, in convoy. Big day out for some caches. Across the day we mostly consisted of myself with Censations, net88, La Kedi, Fangsoki, Sweet_bee, Bedmaker, TassieGirl, Jimmyproject, Karen_hippo, Brother Colin, Iolanthek, T-Tech, Hiltonclan, Nyssaflutterby, membsec, Crew153, Ms Maddy, Nurseyjulie, Hunting Rabbit, Dansync and Just-a-trifle.

An archived cache. No planned hunt by Pprime is complete with one, or two. The reason for archiving seemed to imply hope it may still be there, so included in the hunt. Good thing someone keeps track of these things. Not seen for 18 months, less time than some, but does not diminish the hunt. The convoy pulled up and off we went to mob this poor unsusecting cache. Quick little jaunt down the track - certianly all open now, although we are told by past finders it's a different track to the one that got closed back then. So that means we arrived at GZ slightly below the hint and from a different angle. Not a problem for us. And so the hunt began. Yes, the hint still works, although I would put it at 2m personally. Look here, look there, poke this poke that. Clunk! Oh what a glorious clunk. A clunk that stopped all activity in the vicinity. It was there. An ammo tin survives a long time. And still in perfect condition too, as expected.

Thanks for placing this cache, The Garner Family. Found in good condition.

Found on Meg #3 by the mob. Made a special visit to find if this one still existed and sure enough after a few minutes it was located all well despite a good covering of vegetation.

I took part in Pprime's MEG#3 today Very Happy This was my #23 for the day. We knew this one had been archived, but many of us suspected the cache was still in place, just waiting to be rediscovered. We all headed towards GZ, and once there much searching took place, and shortly Fangsoki made the find by thumping his walking stick on the ground and we all heard a very satsifying clunk Big Grin It was well covered with debris, but the ammo can has survived beautifully. We made sure to tuck it back into place before we left. TFTC, The Garner Family.

16-Feb-13
Headed north out of Brisbane with IolantheK set for a big day of caching through and around the Glass House Mountains as part of Pprime (P`)'s MEG#3 mob Razz
For those not in the know MEG stands for "Mission Empty Glass" or to explain, P` wants to bag these caches and a bunch of us cachers went along to get them as well [^])

A great day was had by all with a mile stone or two to boot.

This was cache 24 of 39 finds and 3 DNF today [^]

For an achieved cache this one was still very much alive if not seldom found, great spotting Fangsoki [^]

Cache number twenty two for me whilst caching with the MEG #3 group. It wasn't hard to find this one with so many eyes. Thanks for the cache Garner Family

16-Feb-13
Found with MEG#3. It was pretty cool having a few dozen people all hunting for this cache in a small area. It was ultimately located and in remarkably good condition, though given how sturdy the container is, that's understandable.

16-Feb-13
Found with MEG#3 Group. Had a lovely day caching around Sunshine Coast. TFTC

MEG#3 MOB, Cache 23

It was nice to see both ends of Lake Baroon today. The cache was just off the trail to the spillway. Nice easy walk once you get down the initial drop. This was our first archived cache for the day. No idea why it's still archived...the cache is definitely there. It took two blokes pulling on the box to get it to open.

16-Feb-13
Found as part of the MEG#3 group. Big Grin
A short walk to this one. Great views of the spillway flowing. Smile
Thanks for the cache.

16-Feb-13
I was caching with the MEG #3 group and it was decided that we should see if this cache was still in situ.

After checking out the flow of water over the spillway I joined a few others looking for the cache and I was standing beside Fangsoki when I heard the distinctive thud of his hiking pole on an ammo can.

It was great to get our hands on this oldie. the insides were a bit rusty but still quite dry.

As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Found in the company of our group out here for the day.
Marvelled at the plug hole that was there at the time while the water was flowing.

14-Nov-10
Hopped over the orange tape with everyone else and grabbed this cache. TN/LN/SL Spent a good while gazing at the bottom of the spillway and thinking about the beautiful place under all that water. I visited a couple of times before the dam arrived and even camped by the creek once. I know the dam was/is needed, so I kinda wish I didn't know what was under there Sad.

What amazingly tall lush grass trees with flower spikes! There is nothing quite so special as the Australian bush. Lots of magpies around. We even saw the ultimate in lazy dog owners. Their idea of exercising the dogs was to drive in circles in the car park with the dogs running beside the car! Twisted
TFTC. I did enjoy the bushland.

14-Nov-10
What sign? I saw nuffink. Oh, I did see a cache. And a sort of whirlpool in the water as it went down what appeared to be an enormous plughole. Made quite an awful gurgly sucking sound, too, just like a bath being emptied. Memorable! TFTC. ='.'=

14-Nov-10
I was at the back of the group so the cache was already out and doing the rounds by the time I arrived at GZ. Nice to see the water is still going over the spillway. TFTC

14-Nov-10
Well - a sign and a makeshift fence saying "No Entry" blocked our path. We were not having any of that so everyone darted around it and made our way to GZ. I was hunting in the incorrect area, while Lokipagan came up with the well hidden beast. We had a bit of a look from the nearby platform. TFTC The Garner Family - it has been a while since I have been here Smile

The track down to this one is closed off at the moment but it wasn't going to stop us getting the cache! Beautiful spot! Thanks The Garner Family

Found today on our return to Brisbane from a beautiful weekend at the Sunshine Coast. nice spot would be beautiful when the spillway has water flowing over it. The cache is a bit damp as some water has got in, the logbook was also slightly damp but should be ok. TNLNSL TFTC

Found this one today on our tour of the range. We came here a couple of months ago when the spillway had 3 meters of water flowing over it, but the muggles were endless. Much more successful today. Lid could use some WD40 as its getting hard to open. TNLN Thanks The Garner Family

09-Jan-10
Doing the tourist drive on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland so this was a easy find for the day. All the other spots the muggle density was too high fro my liking.

I was hoping the overflow would be in action after the recent rain but I had forgotten how dry it had been in this area and the dam still have a little way to go to reach the top.

The log in the cache indicates the last cachers to find were Canadians, we to had a Canadian in our party today (not a cacher - just a visitor). Cool

Nice are to visit TGF Big Grin

Set up geodad and geodaughter preparing our picnic lunch while geoson and I geocached. Ended up having a lovely lunch in company of a carpet python languidly looped across a rafter of the picnic shelter. Lots of shrieks and oohs and ahs from other park visitors - two even asked if it was ours ...

Now to the cache. Forewarned by the last six months' logs, I came prepared. Dried out the box, which doesn't have any apparent leaks, and hauled out most of the swaps which were in dismal condition - mostly destined for the bin. Sorry folks.

Returned a slingshotting lion and head of Boo the Bear and two little plastic doodads to the cache. Took small purple car as swap, and left a clown fish (marked WW). Took original log book home to dry it, and left new book (ever so slightly damp) in a new bag. To the next-who-comes-prepared, the box needs a new geocaching burb, and I'm guessing a wipe-out for the box and an airing for the log book.

Oh yes, nice spot, and thanks for the cache!

23-Sep-08
Doing the Tourist Drive and diverted to search this cache out and have a look at the lake.
I was surprised to find the contents very damp. I do not recall seeing one of these superior containers leak before.
I mopped out what I could with a couple of tissues and left the contents open to dry for 15 minutes or so but they remain damp.

Number 983, Found in the dark of night with the company of Danielle of Everlasting. I dont know where we took the wrong turn but the track vanished down at the bottom ,near the waterfall. The fenced area near the cache, which I presume is the track which I should have been on, looks like it got damaged in the last storm. Anyway , with 120m to go, I told Danielle to wait while I tried to get to GZ. It got a bit hairy and I struggled to get there. Anyway the cache was found and so was my caching partner on my return. We discovered some "glow in the dark" mushrooms on some logs. They were amazing. Thanks for showing me some more fantastic places in the Sunshine Coasts hinterland. Cheers The Nanks

Wow, it seems that there is a very easy way to get to this cache. Of course, we completely ignored that and decided to add 2 and a half stars of our own.

After a 2 kilometre bushwalk, we found ourselves down in the creek and about 100 metres from the cache - Vertically of course!

We rock-hopped along until we could go no further and then scaled up the sheer cliff to GZ, logged our find and strolled back to the car.

The cache is in good nick and pretty well stocked, We left a keyring and took nothing.

Thanks to TGF for a fun walk!

Arrived after the gate was closed so had the 390 meter walk. It was nice though. '3 meters uphill' really TGF where was your tape measure on this day? Only joking! Mr Nosugrefs searched all areas further afield with no luck; Mrs Nosugrefs (don't you hate it) found the cache a little closer hidden well. The dam was pretty dry today; although we suspect not in as parlous a condition as the Brisbane dams. TNLN

This was our fourth cache for the day on a trip up and around the range. It proved to be a really well stocked cache in a picturesque location.[^] We will probably visit again in summer when the bass are biting...kinda like the idea of a day paddling and fishing here.Big Grin
After sorting through the cache contents that were positively bursting from the box we took a large purple turtle a tube of dice and a bird fridge magnet. We also picked up the parrot head TB to move him on (This is the biggest TB we have encountered so far, and the noisiest). Interestingly we found a kind of geoscroll thingy, we signed it and will move it on also, not sure how to log it properly as it hasn't got a TB number...will place it soon though.
In return for all this we left at tool kit (socket set), combination lock bike chain and a watch.
It took a while to close the lid on all this and the assortment of other goodies that the cache holds...however it did ultimately fit and the cache was duely replace.

Thanks for the cache Garners. It was a good one.[^]

Walked down to Obi Obi creek from the carpark first and then using the GPS found an unofficial, steep track back up to the spillway track. Certainly made it more challenging. I recommend checking out the creek while there. It's only a short walk from the carpark.
Took playing cards.
Left juggling balls.
