Putting out of action until I can get there to check it and replace or archive.

Making my way from Beechworth to Rutherglen to Wangaratta and then to Milawa, I'm now on my way down the highway with my end point for today being Kilmore. I had this cache marked out to find on my travels to fill-in a spot on my Jasmer grid. I connected my Cachly App with Google Maps, and made my way towards GZ. Driving past fields of shiny solar panels I stopped my car and started to walk up a track, looking at my map past the barbed wire fence, up the hill. I saw GZ. Yes I had parked closer to GZ as the crow flies but not actually closer to be able to access the cache, so frustratingly I made my way back up the road and back down the highway which added an extra wasted 15 minutes to my journey. Thats what you get for blindly relying on Google Maps.I finally arrived on the right side, parked the car and started the walk. Making my way up the hill wasn't particularly pleasant, as I had sprained my ankle walking to a cache earlier this morning, but up the hill I went, in the hope for a find.Unfortunately, like the previous cacher, I couldn't find a container. I have placed a logbook, enclosed in a small ziplock bag as per the hint, and will contact the CO, in the hope that this might be acceptable. Thanks, BettyBoo3747 and Roobmc, for keeping this Oldie going.

Will check on the way past sometime.

I stopped here on my drive from Canberra to Melbourne, keen to find this cache as it fills in a spot on my Jasmer/Ausmer grid.I was very disappointed not to find anything. There were two likely trees: one of them had had all of the bark cleared away from around it, and there was nothing there; the other one had old bark and sticks to a foot deep. I pulled a lot of debris out from under it, and found nothing.I sent a message to the CO; I hope that you get a chance to check on the cache. Alternately, let me know if you'd like me to replace it next time I drive past.

07-Aug-24
A slightly torn plastic bag and ever so slightly damp log book is hardly worthy of a Needs Maintenance. However, thanks to Robmc's visit on the way back to Melbourne there is now a new container, log book. plastic bag, pencil and SWAG.

03-Aug-24
It was not covered at all. I put a bit of bark onto it. It's still visible if you look around. The log is a bit damp and good there was a pencil as I left my pen in the car. TFTC

Found it great view and great hide bag for logbok is damaged so might need some attention

We we up at Mt Bogong for the Conquestathon, a 21km trail running/hike starting at Mountain Creek camp, up Staircase to the summit of Mt Bogong and back down Eskdale After having run past some caches during the race, after a night's rest, it was time to jump in the 4wd to see the sights the easy way and grab some caches and some stragglers we had missed on our many trips up the highway, quick easy find tftc

07-Jul-23
A quick pit stop on the long drive home from Batemans Bay. A couple of quick caches? Don’t mind if we do! The not so small one was sent off to retrieve this one but the medium one was soon sent in as reinforcement! Someone was having a boy look. The cache was soon in hand and the log book signed.

29-Jan-23
The OSHFAM clan including geo dog Roxy came up to Punkah for a few days to spend time in our shack before school starts next week. On Saturday lunchtime, I sent the family home and Roxy and I stayed on for an extra night on our own enjoying caching adventures. Today it was time to head home again, so after packing up, Roxy and I hit the road around lunchtime and didn't get home til 8pm caching our way all the way home.

I always stick to the main road when driving back home but today without whinging kids and hubby, I decided to venture out onto the backroads to grab a few caches and stop at all the unfound southbound caches along the highway.

Roxy had the best time going up the hill. She ran, tossed and turned in the long grass all the way up. It was a pleasant walk up and the views were well worth it. At GZ I found the cache surrounded by webs and 8 legged creatures guarding it. The cache was exposed unhidden. So after I found the biggest stick I poked the cache container towards me and signed the log. I threw the cache back into its spot and used the stick to prop it into a good position before covering it with some natural camo. Time to walk back down the hill and a quick stop to grab a photo at the fantastic wall art here.

Thank you for the cache here awphoto (adopted by BettyBoo3747 & Robmc)

Well the Mega is done and dusted and what a fantastic weekend it was.
So thanks Wangaratta for putting on such a great Mega and to all of the organisers a job well done.
It is now time to head towards home and as they say there is always time for one but in my case maybe a few more as I follow the Highway south.
Finally heading south after getting a bit side tracked on the way down fro the Mega.
Called into the rest stop to find the first one then I looked at the map looked up at the hill and thought do I want to climb the hill in the heat.
The answer was of course I do so off I went.
After huffing and puffing my way up to the top I stopped to catch my breath and take in the magnificent views from up here.
Located the cache signed the log and picked up the TB to move it on.

Thanks awphoto and BettyBoo3747 & Robmc TFTC.

Was at another cache when we were told by another cacher there is a cache up the hill so off we went. Nice easy find once we managed to reach the top of the hill.

January 16, 2022 3:14 PM

Stopped by to collect this one on our way home as it is on my list of the 500 Oldest Active Vic Caches which i like to collect as i travel around the state. Could be easily ignored as just a plain roadside stop cache but couldn't be further from the truth. Like the description says, the views were awesome up here. Well worth the walk up the hill.
Coincidentally while we at the Glenrowan Maccas we observed another cacher find the cache hidden there, and as we pulled up to park here Mrs P noticed him returning from finding this one too.
Thx to all the COs for hiding and maintaining this one, glad i stopped for it. CIGC TNLNSL

Generally I am not traveling solo when I pass though here.
The company is great, however I usually don't get to walk too far.
As I was returning from Albury today and on my own, I stopped by for a couple of finds.
Light misting rain added to the experience as I worked my way up the hill.
The cache was a very easy find; it was about a metre from where it obviously sits.
Signed and replaced.
I took the card and left a different one in exchange.
Also dropped off $150* for future finders.
Thanks for placing this cache awphoto and thanks also to BettyBoo3747 & Robmc.

Called past as the last log said it was wet and laying out in the open. Yes, it was. A tissue dried the container out, a new plastic bag given to the slightly damp log book and I re-hid where it was supposed to go. All good here now.

Heading back to Melbourne after completing some jobs in albury. Dropped by to mark this cache of my list. Cache all looks to be in good order. Thanks for keeping this oldie cache going strong!

23-Feb-20
Found this one this morning while heading South to Melbourne and after hitting the road early decided to stop and grab a cache or two while I took a short break. Steep little hill but was easy enough to make my way to the gz and even easier to locate the container thanks to spot on co-ord's. Took in some great views over the surrounding area while signing the log book. Thanks for the hide, TNLN.

I carried a stick above my head on the walk up the hill.
I found the cache and signed the clean dry log. Cool
I hung around for a while taking in the view. Nice, really nice. Cool
I forgot my stick on the trip back down the hill. Red Face
Sure enough......Bloody Maggies!!! [xx(]

Thanks awphoto for placing this cache and thanks BettyBoo & Robmc for taking care of it. [^]

Day 2 of batching and so my aim today was to beat my previous record for a single day - which stood at 50 on a day around Beechworth and the Murmungee Basin in July 2018. Not a very big target (I am to get my first 100 day later this week) but hoped to get to 51 to make a nice round number (2300). So the plan was to load up the blue grader with CDs (not much sport on today) and head to a place I hadn't cached previously - Benalla. A good number of caches in close proximity and the opportunity to explore an area I hadn't visited before (other than a drive through on the freeway). Got away later than I wanted (though I needed the sleep) and finished in the dark (last was signed in the headlights) but in the end achieved my target (actually got 54) with a few DNFs (though only 1 logged) and some clever caches found and some nice places visited.

Walked up the hill from the car park and realised how cool the breeze was - certainly not as warm as yesterday and the wind certainly had a chill to it. The Spotted Jezebel circling the flowering box tree near the cache certainly was having a difficult time of it. Dusky Woodswallows were also down low which is always a nice sight. Wandered to cache and found it out of its hiding hole - you wonder why this one has troubles but the one down the bottom is OK. Anyway signed the log, returned to its spot and added some cover so hopefully it stays put. Had a good first hour picking up 10 caches but it went a bit pear-shaped after this.

Today was a day spent mostly on the road travelling with ilook4geo. We did a small selection of caches and some information gathering for the future. This cache was easy enough to find and soon had two more names on the end of the list of finders. All was in good condition and was securely back in its place before we left. Many thanks go to BettyBoo3747 & Robmc for placing this cache and giving us a reason to make a short stop here.

01-Aug-19
It was time to travel further south with goingplaces2 and pick up just a few caches along the highway, wherever we happened to stop and break the journey. This was a quick and easy find. Log was signed, all was replaced. TFTC.

Approached this one from the wrong angle originally. Once I sorted out my bearings it was a short stroll to GZ and a quick find.

Found on my adventure to the 2019 OzGeoMuster in Wollongong. A few crazy long days of caching working my way through a huge number of towns en route from Geelong to Wollongong and back, a different route each way leading to different caches, different CO’s and different vista’s, all enjoyable. We targeted caches with a number of goals in mind. Jasmer months, D/T loops and LGA’s were high on the agenda, with priority also given to virtuals, large caches and whereigo’s.

Thanks to awphoto (adopted by BettyBoo3747 & Robmc) for placing this Regular Traditional cache for us to find*. This is find |find_count|* for BFMC.

A second visit to this one for me today after DNFing it a couple of years back. Today the hide was found quickly, log book signed and all was returned. TFTC Betty Boo3747 & Robmc

Out for a Saturday drive with the geokid and decided to head over and pick up a cache needed for the Jasmer challenge (not that I’ll ever actually complete it). The first time I came here the cache was missing and every time I drive down the freeway since then I’ve wanted to call in but have had other reason to continue onward and not stop.
With this being today’s goal I was happy to final arrive at GZ and make a quick find!
Dropped a TB off for good measure as well.

Thanks for maintaining this old cache BB

Left Adelaide heading for the V8's at Winton, what a better way to seek a few Yellow faces along our route.
Some have been interesting as others not so, but without having a go we wouldn't have been brought to those special places in the Geocaching World.

Thanks to the CO for maintaining these hides and getting us out of the car.

My fifth day on the road as I slowly make my way from Adelaide to Tasmania, via country Victoria.

Its been an great trip so far, visiting some interesting places and picking up a few selected caches along the way. I’ve been lucky with the weather, albeit a bit warm. Fortunately the overnight thunderstorms, lightning and rain at Myrtleford where I stayed had subsided by the morning and it was another mostly fine day.

Another excuse to stop and stretch the legs.

Thanks BettyBoo3747 for the cache.

After a great day of hiking in the high country yesterday, it was time to pick up Ahomburg's phone after leaving it in Skullracing's car. So what else to do then pick up a couple caches throughout our meandering way home and get a couple LGA's that I am missing along the way. Thanks for the cache and the great day.

Making our way south for the Parkville Mega, we got the caches we looked for , there are plenty more for later !
some totally excellent history was discorvered along the way, Glenrowan was a highlight as we got to do some relic detecting at a cache site, which is very cool as it combines both Mr R's favourite hobbies Big Grin[^] and we got some cool Cool relics, awesome day alround [^]Cool
Thanx to all CO's for the efforts put in for our enjoyment
cheers from the Routers

14-Nov-18
We knew we felt old as we clambered out of the vehicle and the hill looked like a T5 but didn't realise the cache was too. Big Grin This cache worked a treat in waking us up and the views were great. Today the Winton Wetlands were brown, there doesn't appear to be any wet in the Wetands. As we previously found some of the caches there by kayak this seems hard to believe. TFTC BettyBoo3747.

06-Nov-18
This was the last day of an epic 5-day roadtrip hiking and 4WDing between the Alpine and Kosciuszko National Parks with Jacko. After a lot of hiking, climbing and driving over the past few days we sure were feeling the effects of all the adventure so today was a simple drive home from the Smoko campground near Bright with very relatively little caching along the way.

Seeing as we were driving south past Lake Mokoan looking for a rest stop it made sense that we would stop at a cache called the *Mokoan Resting Peak - South Bound* Big Grin.
And it's happy hour too - 2 caches at this stop! I'm now wondering why having driven past here so many times over the years I have not yet done these caches until now. I have no answer to that.
That modest line in the cache notes was quite amusing " *there's an **average** view over Lake Mokoan* " Smile.
Thanks awphoto, BettyBoo3747 & Robmc.

A long weekend away with Pacman covering over 2000km across 5 days, covering the Victorian and NSW Alps.

Buggered after a long drive back however one really cannot resist an old cache, let alone with views on a roadside pick up! Thanks for maintaining BettyBoo and Robmc.

The Great Canberra School Camp Adventure, Day 5
Camp's over, and we're on the way home. This is the first stop within Victoria. Woot! Not one, but two geocaches to find. And accompanied by a posse of potential future catchers, the excitement's palpable!
Thanks heaps, BettyBoo, Robmc, and the original CO!

Travelling home from an epic road trip (4000km over a few weeks) we still had some caching left in us. I’ve done the northbound before so thought I’d complete the north and southbound series. Out with the kettle and a quick brew whilst the kids found the other cache, then up the hill for a quickish grab of this one. You are not wrong about the nearby nesting magpie though. Watch out for the swoops.

28-Sep-18
We took a bit of a headless chook approach and ended up on the wrong side of the hill. When we got to the right side another cacher warned us of a furious magpie and that he decided not to go any further.
We discovered a dirt track and drove up.
Thanks for the adventure.

#8066 - 14:15; After passing this cache on numerous occasions and even pulling into this rest area a couple of times, I decided to make the climb to the summit today. Parked the geomobile and headed up the hill for a quick find and sign. Managed to draw blood, although it wasn't until I was headed back down the hill that I noticed! On the way home after an enjoyable trek out to Mt Feathertop to camp for the night and couldn't resist stopping at more than a few caches on the way back. The challenge is not to turn a 5 hour drive into a 10 hour one by stopping at every cache along the way!

After the short steep walk and collecting my breath I took in the views and then searched around before coming up with the hide. Thanks for the cache.

16-Jan-18
Pulled in to this rest area to take a phone call. Loved the murals and thought I should check for a cache. Sure enough, not one but two nearby. Have driven by many times and was unaware of the view this small hill affords. Thanks for the excuse to take a little wander and providing a new perspective on what I thought was a familiar landscape, BettyBoo3747 & Robmc.

Moving camp today, a few caches on the way. Camped by the river in Benalla, stayed here before its a great spot.

I had no previous intention of voluntarily attempting my Jasmer Grid. That was until a Jasmer Challenge cache was published close to home – so I now have little choice but to work on it. Looking through my statistics I realised I didn’t have too many unique months of the grid to fill in, but it was going to be a real pain in the neck to work on.

Since then I have come to realise that there is something slightly special about completing caches Pre-2005. “Old School” caches have a certain level of historical value within the geocaching community. It was my observation that these caches that have withstood the test of time are either difficult to interpret, hidden in places that wouldn’t get many vistors, or the coordinates are off significantly. Regardless, some of the caches have been reasonably rewarding to find. Thanks to all the respective Original Cache Owners - and Current Cache Guardians (if any) – for maintaining these special gems.

13th – 20th November, 2017. I spent the week roadtripping down to Alexandra for the Mega Event. I had purposely plotted out my route to include a decent haul of caches that could fill in certain statistics, namely the unique Jasmer months that I need. I was extremely lucky to have the entire week off work, so I took my time travelling from Bowral to Wagga Wagga, The Rock, Albury, Yackandandah, Wangaratta, and finishing with Victoria’s oldest Traditional cache.

Day 2 – Wangaratta
• (March 2005) Mokoan Resting Peak - https://coord.info/GCN2AR

Driving from The Rock down into Victoria today. I wanted to find this cache as it was the easier option for the unique Jasmer month. Pulled into the rest stop and with nobody else around, I darted up the hillside. At GZ there were magpies in the tree but they didn’t give me too much trouble. I had the logbook signed and the cache replaced in no time. Then a quick walk down the hill back to the car and on with the journey. Thanks for the experience!

I was now on the way home from a weekend in Wangaratta and the Mega lead up event but there were still a few caches to be found on my travels.
After finding the nearby cache I then headed straight up the hill to GZ for this one, once there I was able to make a quick find.
