Found It!Made it to the top, found the letters, did the maths and then a quick find at the final location. Luckily no dinosaurs were seen along the way!TFTC
Logsheet replaced. Cache refreshed and moved slightly. Old log attached.GOOD TO GO!!!
Another gorgeous day in CBR, and so I pointed the eMTB interstate and enjoyed a 16km loop through the northern section of Kowen Forest. Lots of wallabies and roos around, and being a weekday, no trailbikes - although their tracks are everywhere.
Spectacular views and general all-round scenery from this group of caches, and a thoroughly enjoyable expedition.
This cache: after a couple of goes at the maths (field calculations are not really my forte) I had a reasonable looking GZ not too much of a ride away. But once at GZ I spent 15 minutes looking without joy (except for several scorpions, so that was nice) eventually resorting to PAF to get some guidance. Even then it took a bit of exploring to locate the well-concealed cache.
Mind you, the views from WP1 are awesome - thanks, Tankengine!

#3634 My ultimate goal for the day and glad to have DeadThief along for the hike.
This cache has been in my to-do list for quite some time. Why? You may ask. It may not interest all, but this just happens to be the only remaining hidden month required by me still available within the ACT. And with a couple of DNF’s in the logging I knew it was likely to be a challenge as well.
We reached posted coords and after a short search located what was required to set about preparing our GZ.
I did the sums while DT called out the numbers.
Then there we were! One step closer to my goal, yet still so far from making the find!
Once at GZ the real fun began. Where to start, or stop for that matter. I could rattle on for some time as I painstakingly describe the half hour plus search but let’s just say that we searched high and low within an ever increasing circle. After disturbing numerous butterfly, 4 scorpions and an uncountable amount of ants the container was finally in sight and eventually in my hands.
All was in good condition and after adding our names to the log it was carefully returned to its hide.
Thankyou Tankengine for placing this cache and bringing us here. You can’t imagine how excited I am to find this one and complete another self imposed goal. Cheers.

Pretty sure we got the maths right (nice trick with that ), and spent a fair bit of time searching high and low. Reached into a few places, to no avail Hope we didn’t miss something obvious
What an ordeal - for me, the CO that I bombarded with questions, and the critters.
But I found it and walked away mainly unscathed.
Still worth a FP, but I won't say why in my log.
Photo is of one of the critters I found during my search...

My third oldest unfound Tankengine cache in the ACT! Has been on my list to grab this for a long time now, and today was the day! What a top location too! Never been up here before, I got fairly close back in 2015 when doing the Roo series, but it was just too much of a detour those days with a set goal in mind!
The multi was soon sorted out and the cache was found, uhhhhuuhhh clever....
Thanks Tankengine and BBBumbleBee

It was a great day for a long walk. Not too hot, not too cold, but just right.
We parked on what we thought was public land, but ended up being not. The locals aren't too happy about strangers in these here parts and so I would recommend making sure you parked where you are certain it is public. Even though some locals THINK that the public land is also theirs. We were lucky that the local we met was a bit more polite than some of what we have heard about. It made our walk easier, but it is the risk you take.
This cache: It was a nice walk to find this one. At the first waypoint the information was easy enough to figure out and GZ was a very easy distance to get to without it being inconvenient. Nice views as well. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Headed off early in some fairly thick fog, soon cleared though and a lovely sunny day to be out walking the area. Border bash was the focus with poppet peak and its collection of near by caches also on the list, stopping at fire finder on the way back to the car.
Oh boy, was there a few hills to tackle, the ones that are steep enough to be slower down than up, but on the whole, mostly an enjoyable walk along the easy enough trails. Thanks for the caches TE, all caches found today were yours!
Great views from the trig, a little look to find the information needed and once a more thorough read of the description a nice looking and closer GZ!

What a fabulous day for a walk. Well it started off a little cool but ended up fantastic. And the views from here are amazing. Loved the area. TFTC Tankengine and BBBumbleBee
Temperatures starting to rise now, but as I climbed to the summit the air became a little clearer and moderately cooler. Once at the posted coordinates it took a few minutes to find the required numbers. Once noted it was a quick calculation for GZ coming up with a number that was less than 1km. Low and behold a short time later, BINGO.
A quick sign and replace then headed back the way I came, deciding though to follow the immaculately maintained trail all the way back to the geomobile. TNLNSL TFTC

The second day in Kowen, a much shorter but very enjoyable visit together, I cherished the time I had out and about with Dino today. We started off with caches at the northern end and continued onto the back of the roo.
This cache:
Well this one had us fooled for a few minutes. I am thinking this can't be and recalculating to make sure but not seeing what it meant other that a great magic trick them working out that way. Finally the penny dropped. Fun great old cache. Fitting that I did this together with Dino as you have placed it with BBBumbleBee.
Thank you Tankengine & BBBumbleBee for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Second day out and about in Kowen Forest saw fitzy_1965 and I targeting everything but the Roo.
I ended up with 18 Tankengine caches and we got two surprise FTF's. Was definitely a great day out.
After our eventful find at Cohen Car, we realised we still had a bit of time for some caching so decided to grab all the Poppet caches. A quick calculation at WP1 made for an easy find. Love that I got a third out of the way trig too.

A day of geocaching with Marmaduke Rothschild and contesta, primarily the SRPT series but also some nearby caches. My contribution on this road trip was to drive. But for 4 around here (including this one) we all enjoyed a short walk. TFTC.
Finally, redemption is mine! Tankengine and the weir master have also rewarded me for my incompetence
Unbelievably I was almost muggled out of finding this one, as I made the reach. I wanted to sit here and soak it all in....
Was able to log and sneak the cache away just in time. This one has the stormcatchers curse all over it.
Loved the multi and thanks for maintaining it!

Decided to check on this today, and am happy to say that the cache is still in place - good to go!
Oh no, not another DNF on this one!
50/50 today, pretty sure the maths was right and double checked it. All seemed to line up.
The likely location was bare

Now that was tricky. Got the first part of the information fairly quickly, but troubled over the numbers for a long time. A double and a triple check. Then extensive searching in wider and wider arcs. A good half hour was spent and I was just about to call for help, when something popped into view. Well that was unexpected!
Great views, an old trig tower, an oldy and a real twist! What a great cache! Will be back another day to follow the border! Thanks TS

5234. A nice wander up here with the geo-pooch observing a few markers along the way. Initially I found what I needed to, but some fat fingers put me slightly off the mark. A quick lifeline to the CO put me straight and I made the find. Now where are those markers taking me?
Thanks TE for the cache, the help and the great stroll in this part of the world.

On a public holiday Monday with the morning to yourself what do you do? Go find some unloved caches, that's what! (Well if you're me). So I checked out where I could get a cluster and found that this area was one where not only were the caches not found in a while, but it is a MTB ride I've meaning to do for many years. So off I went. I parked at the Kowen gate and then commenced on the Border Bash cache, which eventually took me close to here. A bit disappointing not to find a proper trig listed here. I sat down and did the calculations and then off to find the cache!

I was intending to do this one the simple way, but in a fit of madness decided to do the Border Bash and go the long way to this cache.
Managed to muck up the calculations but it still looked semi-reasonable. The closer I got to this 'GZ' the more unlikely it started to look and nothing was found anyway. Headed back to WP1 to recalculate where I discovered my error and this time calculated the proper GZ.
Cache found all OK. A nice spot here and the breeze really helped cool things down.
Thanks

{72} Found with TikvaNZ on a long walk. I think we covered over 18 km today. This was the second one of about 16 for the day for me, and second of three Tankengine caches.
Collected the necessary information at the listed coords, made our calcs and made our way to GZ. Saw a shingleback lizard having a sun bake. A reminder to watch out for other reptiles that aren't so cute and cuddly!
Tks again TE!

With a caching afternoon planned with ZQX to tackle the back of the Kowen Roo series, we faced the issue of where was the best access. I'd also been eyeing up this cache for a while, and it seemed like a perfect option to start with the multis along the border. On arrival at GZ we found an amazing shingleback lizard before finding the WP. With the final co-ords calculated the cache was soon found. Another favourite from me for this one - a very clever use of the information to calculate GZ. TFTC.

A nice day for a walk around Kowen forest and along the border between the ACT and NSW. 19.8 kilometre walk 6 trigs including a couple of multis, sighted one fox and a few kangaroos.
Had trouble finding the word as I was looking for something on the building. Soon found it and worked at the co-ords. TFTCs.

A great day wandering along the border with the geo-mutt today and perfect weather for wandering I might add. We had been ambling along the Border Bash route and got as far as this one, hmmmmm, did the math in my head and ten had a bit of a What The??? moment. Re-checked it all with a calculator and came up with the same answer....OK....this is Tankengine after all so duly followed the arrow for the required 'less than 1km' and bingo cache found.
I'm still wondering why I chose to carry my Supercomputer up in my backpack for those tricky calculations. Oh well, lovely views from up here with the smell of something burning.......maybe I shouldn't have charged the computer from the nearby structure, my extension cord was really straining.
Love this old wooden trig. Reached this point after a long day's walking, so was glad when my encryption/mathematics turned out to be correct and enabled me to progress to the ultimate destination right first time. TFTC
Had a crack at this one on a cloudy cold night cache run with mankycat, and due to my bad calculations i had him searching in the pine forrest nowhere near gz. Lol
After a long trip chasing the Border Bash, the information was gathered, sums done checked then rechecked and off we went....to the wrong location.

Out camping with the scouts this weekend so Diamantina Stars and I grabbed this one while we where out here. I was slightly reluctant to stick my hand in much to the amusement of on lookers.
The weather was a bit colder today but that just ensure we were motivated for a nice quick find, and it was TFTC
Second find of three in Kowen State Forest, after having broken camp in the morning. A bit stunned by the final location of the cache, the views are magnificent though.
This was the second cache found after leaving our campground this morning. We arrived at WP1 and I did all the calcs in my head. We then took a lovely walk to geozone and soon found the cache. The funny thing is, while driving to the cache I figured the geozone would be here! Have done one like this before.
Lovely views at geozone. Afterwards the Vikings and us took some more jumping photos with the great view. TFTC

Completed this cache this afternoon. Turned into a 20km, 4 hour walk as I ended up wandering down to the Kown Camp aswells as border bash and fire finder.
Thanks for the afternoon of exercise TE.

Sunday 29 July 2012 - Cool sunny winter's afternoon meeting up with work friends to walk around the forest. thx p2p, TFTC
After finishing a recce for our scout camp next weekend we decided to come for a drive to this one. One of the other leaders was assisting with the calculations and after not finding the cache after a search we decided to re-do the calculation and discovered she made an error.
Sums re-done as the the cache was then located (by the one who had us searching in the wrong place the first time so lucky!). Great spot that my previous visits to this forest had not brought me to before. TFTC

Found the marker easily but had problems working out the new coordinates - either Im totally stupid or there is something totally simple I missed - might hand this one over to Charlie the dog to find next time, Im sure he'll do a better job......
Captain Tomato and I popped by to check the new log book while we were out here on another journey
Ablida and Mr Roo returning to fix up a past DNF and this time for luck I joined them with geodog, only about 500m walk , and quick find, and a bonus old school trig.. nice..
So what is this building up here for?

No luck here today, even with help on the phone from the owner. It looks like many of the rocks have been flipped recently. I put some back where there was an obvious groove. I hope to get back here again one day. Albida
What an excellent cache. I really enjoyed the journey in, it was beautifiul - although I noted that a number of people commented in their logs about how close they were able to park. How did they do that?
The hardest part of this cache (for me) was finding the information to calculate the offset. I had a really good laugh though, this cache has been really well done. Combined with the views it made for a top experience. It was also good to see that the Forestry and RFS guys who found it had signed the log book and returned it to its hiding place.

2761. [font=Trebuchet Ms][green]This one definitely deserves more visits than it's got. I had tried to get here once before and failed to spy the logical entrance. So agter we stopped in at the end of the road up for a cuppa, we headed back down to the other track in. Mr Winglen drove far enough in so that he could showcase his exemplary reversing skills on the way out. I'm always impressed by this. BTW What's with the power pole where the lines just stop?
Anyway we did the calculations and got a very likely answer. Wandered over to GZ and had the cache in hand shortly after. Another of those TE hides I admire - the right sized spot for a cache and very subtle - well done. Plus the views, particularly on the way back to the car.

Many times we have considered doing this cache but its out of the way location and uncertain access tended to put us off. So it was resolved today with McPhan that we would make an attempt, and bag the trig at the same time! We found a road that didn't look too private, and drove to within about 400m of the top. Great views up here, thanks Tankengine. Thanks for the impetus for a small 'clean out' on this side of town.
1121 - The lure of 2 tankengine caches and two of my older unfound ACT caches sitting up there on that side of Kowen Forest was enough to get me out there on my bike today - pending rain or not...
After Kowen Kamp I continued on - passing many campers, trailbike riders and even three horseriders - and soon came to a spot I decided to dump the bike and walk up the final part to the starting coordinates.
Found the letters and did the calcs - hmm - redid them...
Went to GZ and with the rain starting to fall it was a frustrating 5-10 minutes before I finally made the find. Possibly my briefest log entry ever as it was pouring at the time - and I still had over 4 miles to ride back down the hill !
Got back to the car and was soaked through and very muddy - oh well it was a fun time getting these two caches - thanks tankengine !

Found this one this afternoon. This cache has been a whole series of many attempts, each time I found the gate closed but today I got lucky! I rode all the way to the cache and found the required information quickly. I double checked my maths and then headed off to the cache. I found it after a brief search. I like the muggle entries!
Thanks Tankengine & BBBumbleBee for the cache in a fantastic area.

Drove to within 400m of the cache & then walked the last steep bit - decided it might be a bit challenging for the 2WD vehicle. MCKENNA had 2 dogs to pull her up, but I had to struggle up unaided - puff puff. Great views at the top though. I think I managed a somewhat unconventional method of finding the cache - that's what happens when I don't read the cache description properly! No wonder I couldn't understand some of the comments about WP1 in the log book...

2nd of 3 finds for today.
Had been out to do a reccy on this one last weekend and got to within 675 metres of WP1, however with a few new houses being built, that access was out of the question.
So, the suggestion was made that I come in from the other side; Kowen Forrest.
So today back out I go, and gate at the entrance was locked (new it would be) so out with the bike and off I went. Off the bike about 30 seconds later and spent the next 20 minutes pushing it up the hill, thinking, at least it will be fun when I come back down.
Stop off and picked up another cache on the way through (GC1018W) before winding my way along more dirt tracks. At the 1km to go mark, decided to hide the bike in the forrest and head straight up the hill.
This got me to WP1 ok, where I found the marker, did my calc's, and yep, GZ was less than a 1km away. Rechecked them to make sure, and then set of for GZ. Once there, the cache hiding spot was easy found.
Then it was back down the hill, pick up the bike and back to car. All in all, a fun day and great little cache.

Found this morning in a memorable mini-adventure. Took the high road in. Wind was blowing a gale up there and after some swift arithmetic, I had the cache in hand - don't you love how numbers can turn out.
Then I learnt a valuable lession in caching - ALWAYS mark the position you parked the car in your GPSr.
Also , a hint if contemplating caching at the South pole. From the carpark there will be only one way south to the pole but for the return journey there a MANY wrong paths North.
Many thanks for a great cache.

Found at 13:30. I needed Google Earth for this one - maybe there was an easy way there, but I ended up taking some trails that were seemingly less travelled. Was still lucky enough to be able to park the Stealth GeoBeast about 40 metres from WP1. Found WP1 easy enough, then sliced my finger open with some rusty metal near GZ - still debating whether to get the needle... Found the cache after a little bit of searching, took the GC and ran - it had started to rain, and some parts of the trails were slippery enough already.
Thanks Tankengine !

We actually drove in very close to the starting waypoint for this cache - woo hoo. Thanks Tank Engine - the walk to the final cache location was really enjoyable and very memorable - as usual, you never disappoint. Seriously, views over pine forest were great even though we hadn't had to walk up too much of a hill.

Found @ 6:50am with SecretSquirrel-BJC. Nice gentle walk to this one - and not too far. Great views to the East. Strange how one just seems to know when one's calculations are exactly spot-on. Found cache and signed log. TFTC TNLN.
After riding from Molonglo Gorge car park and doing Kowen Camp, we saw that this one was "only" 3km away. Feeling game, we continued on (and up) to this multi.
After using the old palm-pilot to help us with the calculations, we were stunned at just how far we had to go to get the final prize. The legs just managed to get me there in the end though..
Great spot, good cache. Thanks.

Found with the help of Sui after a tiring, sweaty walk up the hill from Sutton Road. TNLN.
My third cache of the day. I managed to drive to with 830m of the first waypoint, then set off up the fire trail. Found the waypoint without too much hassle, and sat and did the maths. Punched the coords into my GPSr, and then boggled at the distance from WP1. My thought was "it's HOW far from here?"
Still, set off and after a few false starts, found the cache. Nice little hide!
TNLNSL TFTC!

Accidently stumbled across this one... I'm not a geocaching person, I was mapping for the Rural Fire Service.
If I find more, I'll report them!

Found after a friendly pointer in the right direction from the S's. A fun drive up to as close as possible, and then a short walk to WP1. worked the co-ords and then off to GZ for a quick find.

would have walked almost half a KM if haden't been told by the S's that it was closer than that so phew.
This was our first as The4shadows. It was close to home and culture50 took me here for my first step, so it was only fitting that the bride navigate and get introduced the same way. Wow...we got there without any problems. This is fun and you get see the real world. Onto our next fun.... Took necklace and left keyring fan.
I was concerned about this one and didn't want to cross private property to get to it. I finally found a way in but the problem was that the gate was mostly locked. I finally passed and it when it was open. So today I was able to finally cross this cache off my list.
I managed to do Eastern Edge first and then came to this one. I quickly found the letters and did my maths. I was confused for a while but eventually found the cache. Nice hide.
Thanks Tankengine for another great cache. TNLN.

I think I may have been on private property when I drove up to the cache, not really sure...Did the math, was initially confused (not hard) than all became clear. Took TB Surfin Sam LN. Thanks Bianca and TankEngine ZZ7
Since this cache is now only minutes from home we thought we best claim the find.
Drove to within 140m of the first wp thanks to a litle help from our friends (The Hill 4). Once there we did our maths and had the cache in hand in no time.
Great location with unreal views, shame we forgot the camera, (we will blame Mrs S and her placenta brain!)
Thanks to Tankengine

Didn't have too much trouble finding this. Drove fairly close to the first waypoint. The sound of the rally nearby was in the background as I did my calculations. As I was writing in the log book I was swarmed by ladybugs .
Was hoping to claim the 4x4 travel jeep, but ThomasS had been a day earlier so I still claimed the Yankee TB. Great view from the hill, thanks ThomasS

Rode in 7 mile and 4.4km from the main road. Rode all the way, and rode all the way to the cache. You'll have to get steeper than that!!!
Great ride early in the morning too.
Took boomerang keyring, left JEEP TB.
Then it was a fantastic COOEEEEEE down and out of there, and great views had on the way out too.
PS - a 78km round trip for the day on the MTB.

Our 8th and final cache for the day. We were joking earlier that we should have got this first thing before anyone else grabbed it. As we arrived at WP1, we saw 3 of the Hill4!! Oh no they had beaten us to it. We did our calculations and found the cache. Dejected....but lo and behold, the cache log book was empty!!! We duly logged our find and headed back to our vehicle. We spotted the Hill4 again, they had done the calculations wrong! We drove up to about 200m from the cache (helpful 4WD vehicle from sshaw). I think the Hill4s had walked in. Ouch!!!
Sorry for beating you to the cache find Hillies.

We had walked in. 8kms. A beautiful walk it was too and we discovered a spot well worth another visit and maybe a cache. Got to the first waypoint and had to phone home to have the calculations done as we had no paperwork with us. Sadly, the answers were wrong and we headed off on a wild goose chase as the others claimed the FTF. The day was not wasted, we grabbed the T. Bug and worked off several easter eggs and the kids had fun. The only part of the day that did leave a bad taste was the jeering we received from the other cachers as we returned to GZ. Their log contained comments such as 'Perhaps the Hill 4 can't add. We win hahahahaha' and when we said we'd walked 8km, they responded with more Hahahas and 'We walked xxxm'. (Don't want to give anything away.)
Well congrats to them on the FTF. We picked up their litter (A Hill with a view sheets)on the way out and got a lift back to our car.
Thanks ThomasS for another adventure.

Came out with TE to help him hide this one... Luckily the total walk is not too far.
Dropped in "Destinless Dice" TB - to start it's journey! - Let's see what destinationless locations it can get too...
