Met the property owner on my way out. He has no knowledge of this cache placement and told me the gate was locked for a purpose.

Given the current state of ownership I'm disabling the cache until the owner can either confirm permission or archive this one.

It was good to read the note that the cache was still able to be found so I set out today to try for the third time.
I would never have credited that this area contained workings such as this and it was great having a look off the track as I walked in. Spotted the outlet for a start off and could see the drop involved so quickly made my way to the other end and after a quick search the log was signed.
On the return journey I spotted by the property owner (Jim Hore) who wanted to know what I was doing on his property, after an explanation to him I found out this property had been sold last year and he has no knowledge of this cache on his property.
I would suggest that permission for this placement be sought from the property owner.
Thanks

Wow, what a place! we don't use GPS's so we had to roam around trying to find it, which was incredibly difficult! Thanks so much smelly sheep pit though

Hi folks. Yes, the area now has a locked gate. if you don't mind the walk, or a cycle, then you're still welcome to go for it.
We found the gate was locked too. Took a chance on whether we were trespassing or not and jumped on the mountain bike.
A great cache.
As others have requested it would be great if the question of access was clarified.

Was looking forward to doing this one but when we arrived the gate was locked as I don't like jumping over locked gates. We didn't attempt
5/01/10 6:00 pm sounds like a great cache and were really disappointed to find the gate locked. decided this meant keep out whether on foot or vehicle so left this one. perhaps owner could add to the very full instructions what cachers should do if gate is licked (ie can they proceed on foot). hope to get back some day but it could be a while as this is not on our usual route.
I think we may have been lucky here as the gates were unlocked so in we went. A very interesting area. Cache located in a unique place with one entrance way requiring wings. Eat your heart out Bitsprayer and Ernienz!!!. TFTC
Tried but the gate was locked, wondered if this site will be available again in the future?
I brought some follow caches here today to what I think is one of the best cache's in the area, but the Second Gate was locked, so we left , were not sure if foot access allowed.

Well the gates were open, so an easy drive in. There seems to be something going on further down the road with a cargo container and some vehicles there. No gun toting muggles so a pretty easy climb and then I pondered for a while. I decided to look around and bingo!
The cache was quickly located (it is much easier than a certain cache on signal hill ). Very interesting area. TFTC mjb. TNLN.

On a minor detour on the way to Arrowtown for an overnight visit. Now that's a cool little area with some weird formations. Got to GZ and thought "I have to go there? Oh, bugg*r!!". I did then go along to the end (carefully!) and have a look - v. cool. A most excellent location and hide. TFTC mjbnz!

What an awsome place, took a torch as suggested but didn't need it,reminds us of Stewart Town at Bannockburn.TNLN. TFTC cheers.
We should have taken the camera up to the cache site, but took plenty of photographs of other features afterwards.
+ a marble, - nothing.

246. Once we figured out how to get there, sent kids in to retrieve cache, could be spiders in there! when started to blow very cold wind and rain, so dash back to car. on the way back to Patearoa, watched lightening smash into ground (very Cool!)

Found it on dark, neat spot, will have to come back and do some more exploring at a later date. Took Mr Incredible key ring, left mouse trap. TFTC
Now this was an interesting cache in more ways than one!
Looking out the end gave me vertigo!
Found a lot of old Amo casings around which shows how often its used as a range.
Definatly not a place to go when the flags are up!
Cheers and thanks for the cache

Brilliant! Just like treasure Island. This is our very first cache find and I think we could be hooked! Thanks. Frank, Julie and Toni.
What an amazing spot - looked just like a drive in the country until I entered the old gold-sluicing landscape. Got the cache after an episode that might rename me "Climbs among briars" or "Crawls with Spiders"!! I might even put up some photos. No swaps, thanks and cheers from Grandalf.
What a great cache, boys loved it.It reminded me of a cow boy program I saw on tv years ago as a kid. thanks for this one
A superb site!! Many thanks for arranging permission to access this interesting landscape, it's most appreciated. No exchange.
This is one cool cache, but that end step could be a killer Gps bang on to the right spot there is only one place to go. There was a person Shooting below but there were no flags or signs out so must have been a local.
Many Thanks Bitsprayer

Wow! One of the best cache sites I’ve visited. Love the landscape. Wondered how much gold was won from here and how much is still lies here. Restored the cache to it’s correct position. + Mr Incredible keyring. – toy car. + Oui Oui TB. Thanks mjbnz and also to your dad for allowing us to visit this place.
What a fascinating place! My sister reckons it would make a good set for a western movie. Must have a been a great adventure playground for a child. Howling gale here today. The cache had obviously fallen from its hiding place and as I didn't have the notes with me I guessed at where it was supposed to be tucked away. Checking the notes now I realise I guessed wrong! So next seeker- it's a little bit higher than that suggested in the hint! Great cache in a great hiding place. TNLN.
Well done on the FTF O.F., I was getting a little discouraged that no-one was going to go for it!
Yep, there were many interesting times as a child spent around that area.. lots of things to do

My first FTF. Yippee! What a great spot. Had a lot of fun finding the exact spot, my GPSr took me on a "horseshoe" because I didn't believe it the first time. Very impressive, Mike, you must have had a lot of fun around here as a child.
Congratulations and TFTC
