pug002 found it 8/8/2018 on our trip north geocaching, mountain goating again, must have been at least 340 metres from where we parked but found it and replaced the container. TFTC Team OrrClan
Wow what a climb and a view! Cache is ready for replacement but gosh it was worth coming up here for! TFTC SL
The plastic box on this one is starting to fall apart due to the sun. It has a hole on one end so I have placed it so water can not enter.
Camping near Newman for a couple of days and trying to collect some of the local caches. I found this one at 12:30 today. A great view, but I wonder whether it was worth the trek up the hill TNLNSL TFTC OrrClan
A quick find after driving out from Newman this afternoon. This cache has been on my ToDo list for several years - and finally we have stopped in town for a few days with some caching. I was able to park on the road and follow a 4WD track about 60% of the way before walking cross-country. We had enjoyed a Mine Tour this morning then lunch in the caravan and now it's playtime. SL. Thanks to Team OrrClan for the cache.
I have made it a bit of a mission of late to chase down some of the older caches in WA, and attempt to complete my Jasmer Challenge.
This cache is one of the ones that I needed to grab to fill in a date period.
I work not far from here and have had this one on my highlighted list for quite some time. Today I decided to come out and check out the dam and grabbed both caches.
A great view from up here. I parked at the main road and headed up the hill through the spinifex on foot.

First one Tina has found a bit of a hint get to the track with the view it's a bit less of a walk
But what a great view
But what a great view
Go around to the dam side of the hill. You can drive approx 10 meters from it.
Got it thanks nice trek away I'm sweating lol beautiful views left my breakfast ticket from Kurra village in town
I saw the track up the hill,
but after nearly getting bogged on a similar track earlier this morning,
figured it would be better to attack this hill from the road
Off I strolled
And out of the bitingly cold breeze on the leeward side of the hill,
I found that the nice warm tropical sunshine,
was making me sweat a bit too
Strolling around the top of the hill is a menace !! [:o]
Damn rocks, hidden in spinifex
Definitely hiking boot terrain
But me stumblings did take me to GZ eventually.
Where a quick cache find was made [:o]
What ?? Among all these rocks
Yep !!

One last find for Newman on the way to the airport. Lots of spiderweb to navigate through. Great view
Great view of the dam!
Happy hunting
Took nothing. Left a happy card and a two buck tip.

Great view but carry water, tread lightly as loose rocks and grab a stick to clear spider webs.
GPS not working but the instructions were bang on. Lovely spot with a great view. Thanks for enabling us to visit here.
Found on a FIFO visit by one of The team. Thanks for the cache. Great view.
Day out with the family. We have passed this one a few times finally decided to collect it
Spinafex is pretty thick. Jeans and boots recommended

Good placement. Enjoyed getting that bit extra view and vegetation variety while visiting the very full dam.
I found it at my cycle trip to caches around the Newman. I wanted to find more but the hot weather was against it. Thank for the cache and nice view.
This cache has been here for a long time. I enjoy having to get well away from the car to find caches so I will give this cache its first favorite. Thanks OrrClan.
A quick find after work.
I am slowly wrapping up all the local caches finds.
Nice view just on sunset but given the mosquito warning I didn't want to spend too much time here.

Had a bit of trouble because the sign to Opthalmia dam that you mention does not exist. After a while we realised where to set the odometer and found the track and then the cache. Great views from up here. We saw a bustard walking slowly around. Left a TB. TFTC
Found the track which leads up behind the hill. Gets you a lot closer. Wasn't looking forward to the long walk up in the spini. TFTC.
TFTC and thank you for the great location. Caches like this make it a worthwhile activity. TNLN

Found it on the way to Newman Airport for my return flight back home.
Thanks a lot for taking me here! Coords are spot on and cache is not difficult to find. Rocks are really heavy, surprised BHP has not chosen to dig it all out, as they do around the area everywhere...

Day nine of our holidays to Karajini NP, we visited Newman and the surrounding areas... Along the way we found this cache Navigated to GZ no problems, found the narrow track and added a few more scratches to the red rocket!!!
We stopped here whilst I made lunch... Jase and the kids dodged the 40m of spinifex to the cache where the prize was found [^] It was then realised that a pen had been forgotten so they brought the cache back to show me...
TFTC Team OrrClan. Great views to be had here. We did continue on to the dam, and realised the picnic area was fantastic and wish we had of stopped here for lunch instead of the side of the hill

20 May 2013, Week 4 – Day 23 of our Trip Around Australia (http://mrlocks.tumblr.com)
“1CADFAY”, (1 cache a day for a year).
Today was a mission finish last nights blog, lol. I just couldn’t get my head together last night to finish it, also to get the kids to do a bit of catching up with school work. While I sat outside working on the computer Jacki had the kids inside the van working away. Charlie was being difficult and would not settle down to do his work so I took Chloe off to Woolworths and did some shopping giving Jacki time to focus on getting Charlie to do his schoolwork.
When we returned we had our lunch and then went off to find a few caches. Our first stop was Opthalmia Dam which is the towns water supply. We drove out to the dam to the picnic area at the edge of the water only to find the bins full and overflowing with the litter piled high around them and being blown around by the wind. The views over the dam were pleasant, it was just a shame it was such a god-awful mess. We left to find the cache, “Opthalmia View, GCNTHK”, we hadn’t read the description before searching for the cache so we were looking for the access road just by guessing which one to take and ended up the wrong track which just took us to a dead end. We decided to park at the bottom of the hill and walked up the rocky spinifex covered side of the hill until we reached the summit. Jacki and the kids scouted around for the cache while I admired the awesome view, taking photos. Great cache placement, it was quite overcast so the usual colours of the landscape was a bit subdued but it was still spectacular. The others were having trouble finding the cache so I had a bit of a look around at a likely spot and soon had the cache in hand. We signed our finds and headed back to the car to look for our next cache, “FEAST ON THE RIDGE, GC3AFYY”.
We headed back towards town and again after reading the description realized we had to find another track off the main road which was a certain distance from the junction, but we were travelling in the wrong direction. A bit of guess work and the trusty iPhone app lead us in the right direction. We parked at the bottom of the hill as Jacki didn’t want me to tackle the near vertical, heavily rutted, loose and slippery track up the hill, oh well we would just have to walk it, lol. At the top of the hill we were once again greeted with awesome views, hidden from view by this hill was a large open cut mine with big trucks zooming all over and long trains taking away the ore. Once again I enjoyed the view and took photos while the others searched around for the cache, I was standing at a high point near a trig point I had found and after a while I called out to Chloe to go to a certain spot about 15 meters from where I was standing and have a look, sure enough the cache was there. We signed the log and headed back to the car.
It was getting late but there was time for one more cache before we called it a day, we went off to find “LKA – Newman…well kind of…GC2H3EQ”. This was a nice simple, quick find at a roadside memorial. I quickly jumped out of the car and grabbed the cache, took it back to the car for Jacki to sign and dropped it back. The sun was now setting and we enjoyed a colourful sunset as we headed back to the caravan for dinner.

Our first ever cache..and what a magnificent view it was!!
The track is so over grown now we had to scramble to the top of the hill, but it was most certainly worth it to experience what Geocaching is all about!!
We took from your pot a little Disney figurine and in return we placed a small LED torch.
Thanks for starting what Im sure will become a new hobby as we continue our adventures across the globe

Drove the company 4WD to the spot very close and found the cache as dusk was falling. Had a GC newbie in tow and as luck would have it he was the first one to find it!! Great spot here for camping (ssshhhh) and recreational pursuits - canoeing, swimming etc.
Took the Aussie GC. The US one is not here. Left nothing.
Thanks for the cache hunt and find. I've had this on the to-do-list for a long time but not had the opportunity to get out here to grab it.

Being rained out in Karijini I travelled to Newman and tried to check in at 11.30. No such luck until 2pm so decided to visit Opthalmia Dam again to fill in time
The view from the cache is quiet surprising! Unfortunately the dam is almost empty, but would be a great view or even camping spot when full.
Drove a Nissan Pulsar to within 40 metres of the cache with great care. Would be an easy walk up the track though before heading cross country to the cache.
The rocks are surprisingly heavy, but the spinifex wasn't too sharp as it was wet, did it in thongs!!!!
Took nothing dropped Geocoin Australian Emu

Greetings from the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Made the trek up the hill and was very worth the effort. I had to sit down for a while and take in the great vista. Thanks for bringing me here. TFTC TNLN
We drove to where it got a bit scratch for the Toyota and then got ourselves to the summit. Found the cache after a short search. The dam is very impressive and theis location offers a good views. TNLN. Thanks Team OrrClan
Had to run this one myself. Partner wasnt feeling too well. Crushed my finger with rocks boo hoo, but worth it as always, TFTC
Yes we found it!! After taking the wrong turn off we then trudged up ...up.... up and up. We eventually found the survey peg and worked our way from there. We were determine to find the cache even if we had to get the SES out to find us. Anyway we had a hit and took Travel Bug PCZZ4M hoping to move it on down the coast as we travel on our way to Perth. Thanks for the day if exercise and the great view when we eventually arrived at the top.
A fantastic view. We have been visiting Opthalmia for a few years now and enjoyed the trek, and views from the top of the hill, along with the information provided in the cache! We took the bobble head sheep and a bouncy ball, and replaced them with a key ring and golf ball. The area is being well looked after, and is now well worth the visit! Thanks for a great cache.
Great hiding place!
We had no paperwork so we follwed the signs to the dam in our 2wd car and hopped out and climbed to the cache thru the scrub. Never saw any track.
We were a bi put off by sthe sign about the mozzies so kept our distance from the lake.
Found on our Western Australia adventure
Cheers and thanks,

WanderingAus wandered by on day four of a "climatic refugee" trip, heading North for the winter, and detoured out to Opthalmia Dam for lunch (note the spelling, only one H). The WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) was driving the geoChallenger, and spun the wheels attempting to get up the "small windrow that needs to be crossed as you begin the bush track". I was too slow hitting the 4WD lever, so she had to back up and go at it again, easily making the climb of the almost vertical 1.25 metre high "small windrow" with 4WD engaged. I don't know of any "regular car" that could have made it up there.
Once round to the other side of the hill it was an easy walk up and I made an easy GAFF 1 find of the seriously damaged container.
My find No 1408, LCC, TNLNSL, replaced log book bag with new ziplock, replaced container with a drab painted 1.2 Kg screw top fruit container, dropped my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC in for a visit before grabbing it back again.

Wow! What a great view from up here. The dam is HUGE!! Found it easily thanks to the excellent directions. The box is cracked, but the contents are okay for now. Might need to be replaced before the next wet spell though.
No swaps today, thanks for the cache.

Last day of work in sunny Newman. On my return from Ore Body 18 decided to check out this cache. Lovely 24 degree day and a nice walk through the spinifex (I love long pants hehe). The view is spectacular from here and really allows the full appreciation of the dam. The container has a few splits in it and the plastic bag crumbles under your touch. Unfortunately didint really have anything to replace it with. I will be back in the area early June and if i remember I will bring something to fix it with.
Interesting that the toy lamb with the nodding head is obviously not appealing as it is still there.

Found this cache at 2:30pm on our 2mnths trip to western Aust. travelling the roads less travelled. Sorry for the delay in loggingin as we have just returned home NSW.We had to walk from the road up to the top as we had a camper trailer on behind. After walking on rocks and more rocks being sagged around the ankles by the spinnex we reached the top. The view from here was spectacular. What a Dam!!!.
Took: Green tree frog. Left: Practice golf ball and bouncing ball.
Thanks Team Orrclan for the hide. (We would not have gone this way only for caching)

Nice drive up the hill. It wasnt too hard. We pciked our way past the Spinifex in Thongs and moved from sharp rock to sharp rock.We could hear a train on the nearby track and sat and enjoyed the isolation. We took nothing but added a new bag to replace the decaying one. Thanks for the sidetrip.
Found without too much trouble. The walk was not too bad, but Vi stayed back as it was getting a bit too much for her.
thanks from TGN.
thanks from TGN.
The views from here a really worth the drive. We followed the road back around the hill to the main road. It got a bit overgrown in places

We had tea on the road just out of Newman and decided to have a go at this cache in the dark. With headlights on spotlight in hand we headed of into the bush from the dam access road. Managed to find it without too much trouble and checked out the view - lots of lights from the mine sight. Headed back to the Oka for a night drive to just before Marble Bar.

Last one for our Newman assault as we venture North. Made a coffee for the road and sat a while as it was lovely and breezy. Good phone reception up here.

My FTF!
Ducked out early one morning to find this one while working for a week at Newman.
I have been to Ophthalmia Dam many times but never took in the view from this location. Its a great spot!
Took: Screwdrivers to replace the ones my daughter broke that belonged to my wife (finally get to shut her up about it!)
Left: Lanyard (retreived from Cache It If You Can) and McDonalds Motorbiker (retrieved from Sungroper 1)
