Had a long lunchbreak today so I targeted the caches on the Pengana Spur Track. That hill is steep, but made it up to the top in 15mins and arrived at GZ. What a view! After a brief hunt the cache was found and the log book signed. Caches like this are brilliant - a solid walk and amazing views from GZ. Fav point for this one!
Found It!
This is the oldest puzzle cache in SA that I hadn't found. I solved it almost a decade ago now. I visited GZ in 2014 but the cache was missing at the time. Today I finally visited for a 2nd time and this time I found the cache! (and several kangaroos to!) A bit of a walk to get here but some great views from the final location!

What a fantastic location - well deserving of a cache! Found today on yet another visit to this area, but it was the first time walking this particular track. So glad we did as there were some great views. Thanks for the puzzle and cache placement.
Today I headed to cleland for the last of 2 walks that I have left in the park for the time being with the caches currently active.
This puzzle was easy enough to solve but knowing I had walked this track before I was not looking forward to doing it again as it’s so steep but up I went and was glad to get to the top, what a view at GZ, the cache and contents are all good
Thanks for the cache

Cracker view! A new favourite spot that I'm glad we've been introduced to. TFTC 4-fun.
Solved this cache years ago but for some reason never made the walk out to gz. This afternoon I made the trek up the 'hill', realizing just how unfit I was in the process. After multiple breaks I arrived at gz and after a short poke around the cache was soon in hand. Signed the logs and swapped trackables before making my way back down the hill.

The Puzzled Puzzler Group changed our usual Wednesday Walkabout to a Tuesday Trekking but could still only have three members available. Today I was joined by Mrs. S.A. Sewer Rats and Sushilord. The weather was much cooler so it was decided that after a targeted cache on the plains we would go for a wander around Cleland.
After the last cache I was certainly glad that this one didn't involve a long climb down the precipice. The cache was quickly located so we could stop and admire the views.

Wow, I've had this cache as a solved/unfound for nine years!!
My first outing with the Tuesday/Wednesday puzzled puzzlers/trekking group and they drag me up the hill!! Great views from here.

Man! the "Climb to Claim" (the cache) still hurts lol and I've walked up that track about 4 times. Now this time I had to contend with Mr. Slippery , but he was no match for my desire to find this one as I made my way to GZ. Had a bit of a search as one does when the co-ords are a wee bit off but I soon had me a Cache to hold to the sky in celebration, Yay! [^] The climb was worth it as are the stunning views. Took small red Octopus and left about 6 foreign coins (for the geokids) SL at 09:44 on a foggy, hazy Sat. morning of 13 Aug 2016. Cache and contents are good and dry. TFTC four-fun
This is another puzzle that has been sitting on our "solved but have not got around to going to GZ yet" list. The puzzle was not as gross as it might have been.
Some of those are a long way away. Some are places where you want to go with a safety person who can call a helicopter in to rescue you, or perhaps point out where the body is, and some like this one are just on top of a bl@@dy steel climb!
So today I lined up 4 to get up that hill. This was number two.
A quick and easy find at GZ. Love that.

Very interesting puzzle. Pleased to have got that out.
Nice weather today. Seemed a great day to get a solved puzzle off the 'to be found' list. In an attempt to get the Geo kids off the devices, I suggested another hills walk. After only a little complaining, we set off with minimal (ok no) planning. I chose the west approach, as it looked shorter, knowing there would be some elevation gain. I have never walked this side of Cleland before.
Arrived at the start of the Winter Track and shortly after took the turn onto the Pengana Track. Holy steep track batman! I must learn to look at the maps BEFORE I leave home. Oh well, threw Geo Jnr #2 onto my back and off we went. That's a hell-of-a walk with an added 22kg on your back. Geo Jnr #1 did very well. He stopped a couple of times to rest and recharge, but I'm impressed with his hiking.
At GZ, the find was thankfully easy and the views fantastic. Made the walk worthwhile. Knocked off Sunset Cache shortly after, but Sparkling Cache and Burn With Me will have to wait until next time.
Left a little puzzle of my own inside cache.

Four frogs went up the hill using only three sets of legs! (But that's okay, we didn't expect the littlest frog to make it all the way up.) It was a beautiful spot for our picnic lunch with great views. Took two travel bugs because they had been there for a while and maybe would like a change of scenery. Thanks four-fun for this cool cache.
Called past here today and to my surprise didn't find a cache. I was amazed that this had disappeared after so long being safe!
I'll get a replacement installed soon

Crying....! I came to reverse my DNF from 2007 and still did not find it! People seem to be finding it fairly easily so I thought I wouldn't have too much of a problem this time. Where the heck is it [?]
Long hike for terrain 2... but nice. I visited the koalas etc first then hiked the perimeter trail and spur to the cache.

Mr Tardis solved this cipher many moons ago, and was totally chuffed to work it out without any help.
Today was the day to find this one while on a fitness building walk with ncnote21. Certainly some great views from GZ - a really great place for a cache.
Signed the log. Thanks for the cache four-fun.

Solved this in preparation for a caching day out with Mr Tardis. This was my first cipher, and I got a good hint on how to tackle this. The hint sent me on my way, and then it was pretty straight forward. GZ is a really nice spot with great views. Really enjoyed this one. TFTC.
Out on an afternoon caching hike with Tiger_Muffin and Malco! So I wasn't by myself...
I agree 2 star terrain seems a little light on. Then again it easily could have been a 4 or 5 star if is was just a tad further.
Anyway in the words of Julius: Veni, Vidi, Vici

An impromptu 'stroll' into Cleland with CoC and Malco. Julius may have been by himself but I wasn't. There must be a terrain star for every 200m we walked up that track to the cache. Would have loved to have seen a little further into 4 star Z territory.
What am I thinking?? Great views across the park. Hail Caesar!! TFTC 4fun.

Invited to come along on a hike up in this park to find some caches, I had to solve this is quick time, which I did in about 5 minutes (could be a record). In fact, I solved this but can't make head nor tail of the hint (go figure?). *Cache_or_Check* and Tiger_Muffin made up the trio.
Fantastic views from this location. I haven't been up here before but it was worth the climb.
Thanks for the cache, four-fun

Solved this one this morning. Had read a bit about this type of puzzle but had clearly mis-understood it a little and was making it harder than it needed to be. I got a tip from a friend which made solving this simpler. The way i came in (from the NW) felt higher than 2 terrain - i needed the exercise though! The steepness was made better by seeing 3 kangaroos and lots of pretty birds along the way. At gz I was starting to think about going deeper into the terrain (some reason i had it in my head that i was looking for an ammo can - i think i've been looking at a few too many pages recently! :S), but found the cache before taking more drastic measures! TFTC and brilliant views, a great spot for a cache (and thanks for putting it in a more accessible spot than some others around here so that even non-mountain goats can enjoy this location)
This puzzle had us scratching our heads for ages. We'd made an assumption and kept taking the wrong approach! The right approach was made by Mr O By Himself today (along the spur from another cache nearby), so the terrain stars were about right. Some great rocks there - you could've made this much, much worse. TFTC four-fun.
I loved the walk in here and I had been planning to come in here and get this and a few others for what seems years now.
Today I had time up my sleeve and could not have picked a better day.
A long time in between finds and that often means leaf litter and the like have cammoed the cache.
Actually what happened was that I was not quite looking in the right places all along.
Once the terrain rating was understood I stayed away from steeper stuff. Wouldn't want to fall...that would come later in the day.
Thanks four-fun

This was a frustratingly (in retrospect) easy puzzle to solve. I gave this one a few attempts, then eventually put it to one side. I must have warmed up on the other cipher caches that have been published since I first looked at this one, because when I went back to it, GZ literally 'fell out'.
Talking about GZ. I'm glad that the terrain rating narrowed down the search area. That is some stunning rock formations. The hide is still evil---I have no idea how SNP spotted that! He was definitely the cache-sniffing penguin today!
Thanks four-fun.

It’s been a year since my last visit, so decided it was time for another attempt. After a pleasant walk in, I was rather surprised to find father and son at GZ. I asked if they knew Julius, and when they indicated that they had no idea what I was talking about, I suggested that he must be further along the track and wandered off for 10 minutes. I returned to find them gone, and found the cache soon after that. How’d I miss it the first time? I must've been looking for a much more evil hide. Left Julius to his solitude and fantastic views.

A couple of days ago I had met Julius at his palace in Adelaide and wondered about the strange writings on a piece of parchment he had thrust into my palm [:o]
Being a cacher with some Roman blood in my ancestory I knew exactly what to do with the message
It took a few minutes but eventually my mission became clear.
But that mission would have to wait a couple of days until I could assemble the garrison I would need to march on GZ
So it was today that I set off on a long march (mostly uphill) to reach the caches site. There seemed some obvious hiding places that would take the talents of many of my legions to search [:o]
But taking note of the terrain rating lifted my hopes of a quick find
So it was and I returned to Adelaide triumphant having found Julius enjoying the solitude and views [^]

Having just visited a cache on a steep hillside I was a little aprehensive about this one but luckily as a lot easier. TFTC
Hmmm- whre do you start looking when the last people were months ago and didn't find it? - the terrain rating has us sighing with relief and looking closer to the right spot and bingo.. Left a kangaroo and took a coin. TFTC
The puzzle wasn't too much of a problem, after I noticed how many letters there were . Though I still have no idea how the hint is meant to work - it's a worry when the hint is harder than the puzzle!
Didn't help me to find the cache though. There's a bit of area to search, and a number of different elevations. After scrambling over most of it, I had to admit defeat and head off, or risk being locked in.
Foiled once again, by the increasingly misnamed Mr Fun!

Nice spot, good sunset and the grass all trimmed low now. Bit of a hill to get there.
Cool location, I've never been up this hill before. Loads of flowers! Great view too.

We did the calculations a few weeks ago with a tip from Dylana. Mum and Dad pisked up some clues along the way too.

After a few DNF's I thought it was time to call past & check on Juius.
Found him this morning safe and sound in his villa. Having been just over a year since the last find, it's camo is looking very narural now so I am not surprised that people are having trouble spotting it. But let me assure you it is still there!
As an additional incentive I left a green jeep TB to visit.
Cheers.

The hint for the puzzle totally threw me. I'm sure I would have got the solution quicker without it. Eventually however I did what was needed, discovered what the hint meant and then quickly the solution. OK, OK, I have coords... but then oh dear... after spending the morning with Freddo before he left for non-caching activities, he looked over the list of caches I wanted to find and offered directions, etc. Somehow I had missed writing this one down, otherwise I'm sure he would have set me straight. I set off for what seemed to be the nearest parking. Mistake...! Trail I took heads in the right direction but misses the cache by 700-800 ft up a very steep slope. As steep and long as I had climbed to The Slot this morning. I saw a kangaroo trail and took it. Somehow I thought it was going to be an easy find once I got to GZ. Nooooo... 50ft from the cache and it was as difficult to reach as The Slot. Clearly the way to approach is from the top. Anyway, I did reach GZ, according to my GPSr, but found no cache. Found many many places to hide a cache. Even many slots. Didn't want to stay too late and hence left, wishing I had a mobile phone to ring for help. Thanks anyway.
Had this one solved for nearly a year, finally decided to attack that hill. But no luck. I know I was in the right place...
It's been the closest unfound to home for ages, and I was disappointed not to get it today.

Our clever daughter worked out the code, well done Stanley 3. We all set off and after a good walk had the cache in hand. It really is a beautiful area. Think the terrain rating needs increasing slightly. Saw 3 or 4 roos on the way out and a park ranger in a vehicle but she was too late to hitch a ride. Thanks four fun for another great cache. Found by JackHenry 14/6/06 @ 13:35. Late start today after a late night last night doing 'Wet Your Whistle' This was a two for one deal whilst doing the end of a nearby multi. Took a little while to find the cache as there are several ways to look at GZ. Thanx for the fun Four Fun TNLN SL

As usual I had gone off on a tangent .
Funny how the clue is always obvious after the event.
Took nothing, left pocket knife and TB Maseme.

Decoded this one a while ago, decided it was high time to find the cache. A very pleasant walk from the east. Expecting a steeper track but it was easy going. The cache itself was thankfully hidden in an easy access spot, could have been a higher terrain rating if someone more sadistic had hidden it. Took a frog, left a yellow longhorn bull. Thanks for the physical and mental excercise four-fun.

This was one of the first puzzle caches I solved (not long after it was published), but I've been putting off the final assault .. until today. After knocking off another nearby cache, we found the easy way in down the hill, but I left Ms Shonkylogic at the top because she doesn't like walking back up those slopes. Saw three 'escapee' roos on the way down, all quite impervious to me walking past. Cache was found easily. TNLN.
The puzzle got us....felt we were on the right track but still no luck. Thanks to Possett Boys who gave us the hint that made it all make sense.

Solved the devious puzzle a few months back. Had an opportunity this morning to tackle this (along with "A Curious Cache"), although as it turned out, they're not all that close! Held off on doing other "nearby" caches for another time. Why is it that all the brain-teasers end up in the most difficult of places? Balancing the excercise between body and mind, perhaps? Cheers to Four-fun for a great cache!
Well, it's taken nearly 5 months to get up here after solving the puzzle a few days after it came out. Had a pretty good idea it would be around here after a visit to Gravitron recently. (No, it's not very close) Took a Carabiner for MiniZyth1's collection, left 95c as I was out of swaps and the jangly money was annoying.
Found after finally figuring this one out with a bit of prompting - then felt so stupid, of course! Made perfect sense, why didn't we think of that before. We've even both read a book recently that mentions this.
Perfect day for a walk and fantastic views. Took nothing, left a cub badge.

A warm day for it, but no flies. Brilliant views – now those trying to decipher have a few guesses to where I went. Yes, it was on a track. Which track?? Well, I saw a few Mr Parrots . Surprisingly, your heart rate can be assisted by your entry point. Wish I could post the pics here. I took the bottle opener clip and left a large key clip. Google Earth and the coordinates really help. (((((Now that’s more than I should say))))).
Thanx Four-Fun.
Clear skies, Astro.
Came to this one after picking up the nearby curious cache. Again, this is one that I would never have attempted if not for ParrotHead’s guidance of how to make head or tail of the description. Thanks mate, to have not done this one would have been a great pity. Great little walk and FANTASTIC views. The day was wet and blustery, and after finding the cache, we sat on the rocks in what felt like 200 knot winds looking out over the valley and enjoyed a hot coffee. While there we watched a rain squall envelope Adelaide, and within minutes, it was dumping horizontal sleet on us. Bundled off back towards the car after thoroughly enjoying the journey to this one, despite the weather. Took a whistle and left a camping tool in a pouch. Thanks for another great cache, four-fun
We should have found this 2 weeks ago but ran out of time.
Also brought Folding Floridian Traveler 4 a walk up here.

With a little help from our croaking friend we got started with the peculiar string of letters/numbers and made some sense of them. We headed off and up and up. Great views and we sat a while to get our heart rate down and look at what was about us. Took bear and left glos. Thanks Four Fun.
A lovely day for a walk in an all too familiar area. Well, you can see it from the other side of the valley and I have been there twice before. The Park Rangers were bouncing along the trak in front of me and the koala in the tree looked down. Not a puff of breeze and it was cold but located the cache easily enough after a number of false starts with the decription. I could see words but they didn't line up. That was until I learnt to count correctly.
Cheers Four-Fun this was a nemesis for a long time until I had a brainstorm last night.

Fantastic cache. I have to humbly admit that I recieved some dainty assistance from the man with one wheel, and some vulgar assistance from the man with one grand vitara.
Apart from that I now have a good understanding of the lookup function in excel and its use as a method for setting up a transposition table. Not that it helped me at all with the puzzle.
Once I had a set of co-ordinates it all became clear. I remember looking at that particular location when we placed another cache in the area.
Once again a fantastic cache. Beautiful walk this afternoon. We came from the top. And returned to the cafe for coffee, cake and ice-cream. The ability for children to eat ice-cream when the temperature is less than freezing is a poorly understood phenomenon, and one which could earn someone a Phd.

Found by Mary & David at 1640. Worked out the clue before leaving home. Not sure how many ways there are to reach GZ. We elected to try the uphill approach from the north-west. Pretty steep going for the first few hundred metres, but the views at the top were great compensation. The howling gale up there was very cold, but at least there was no rain. TNLN. Saw a lone kangaroo on the way back down. Our thanks again to Four-Fun.
An easy enough find once I found the right access track! An interesting puzzle that took a bit of thinking to come up with the answer, I haven't come across this one before despite it's age.

A nice afternoon stroll with a magnificent view from the cache location. We had stand-in children Alice and Hayden along, and Alice found the cache. I can't believe this cache is 5 days old and was still a virgin. It was much easier this way than the way I tried the other night. Took a compass keyring, left a Billabong necklace.

Stephen is doing better than me then. I've tried a few things to make sense of it but haven't found the right one yet!
[Tried from the top] (Gate Six) [then bush-bashed down a hill with 1.3 k's to go. There's got to be an easier way. Are the posted co-ordinates the starting point?

Well, thought there was a track accessible from the bottom road. Did a bit of a bush-bash thinking I might be able to find the start of the track. Got to within 400m by crossing creeks, climbing electrified barbed wire fences, and forcing my way through blackberries, in the dark, but eventually reached a dead-end. This will have to wait until I can take the legitimate and well marked track.
