A huff and puff up the hill to this one. Stopping now and then to take pictures of all the old mine entrances.

Thanks Scenic Routers

O319 and I have headed off for 3 days of caching. Mainly targeting TRLT and "history of" caches. We replaced the container but only had a small sistema with us.

Interesting area. Lots of holes to fall down. Having read old logs we came prepared with a new container. Left old log in New container. Watch out for cache guardian whoever is the next finder.

Found easily.
It is in extremely poor condition and I don't have a suitable replacement container.
If the next person reads this before the hunt and you have a suitable container then maybe you could help save the cache.

Hill End and Mudgee weekend April 2018. I set out late on Thursday after a small car battery issue. I only stopped once before a night at Bummeroo ford. Friday took me to Orange via many spread out caches between Oberon and Bathurst. I spent the night at Macquarie woods. Saturday started foggy and then warmed up. I was heading to Hill end, and did make it, but I had to give up on the Bridle track due to a rockfall. Late in the evening I did find a spot along the Turon river and the very bumpy northern section of the Bridle trail. Sunday had me finishing the TRLT trail from Mudgee to Gulgong and a few missed ones in the middle of nowhere. The last day was a simple drive home from Sofala. A great weekend !

I had started the trip to Hill and found that I would not be able to make it in one go. I had gone around to Hill End via Turondale and spent 40mins driving down one of the roughest tracks I have been on. I bit of a surprise actually. Anyway, I made it to the stamper and clambered up to the cache. So much old structure, very interesting. The container is safe under its cover stone, but is badly damaged.

Thanks.

We are staying at Watton Airstrip for a few days. As part of a package, our hosts took us on a tour around the area, which involved some concentration in driving, coping with blinding dust, and even more blinding sun. A good day was had by all. We also introduced our host to geo-caching (caching name Watton Airstrip). The Bridle Track was part of the trip. It even included some low flying by vintage military transports
A great cache. TFTC

Today was day 75 of our trip out of Sydney and we are getting very close to home now.

We started out from Hill End and drove along the Bridle Track and up the hill as close as we could to this cache. It was then just a bit further on and a matter of finding the right hiding place. This did not take very long and soon the log was signed and the cache was replaced where we had found it. Thank you for bringing us to this area and thank you for placing this cache for us and others to find.

1125 GAFF4 On a Geocaching / challenging cache weekend with Juddda and MVMB we went to the Bathurst region, and this type of area is where I used to love going with my family when a kid.
I reckon that I could have even been to this very area when about 10 years old, and gathered up some of the cast iron balls used in the crushing process. MEMORIES, but very SORRY about the LATE logging, just notice some missing from a GSAK search.
All good with the cache and coordinates, but don't think I left a CSM.
Will add a bookmark for the Challenging Cache elective.
Brought through for mileage: 3 Bros, B 2 B ingot, Iconic Bridges, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, and trackable shirt.
TFTC Scenic Routers, and again, THANKS for the memories! Favourited

11:25:00 AM, GAFF5, found in the company of Grahame Cookie and MVMTBiker during our challenge weekend in the Bathurst area.
We reached our goal cache for the day and headed back towards Hill End, we stopped not too far from GZ.
Geoson stayed behind to inspect the Gold Stamper whilst we headed off to GZ.
Once we arrived we soon located the hide.
It would have been hard times working the area for gold.

SL, cache in good condition.

TFTC Scenic routers and for bringing us to the area Smile

Geo wife set off for this one with geo son in tow. He turned around quick smart halfway up the hill complaining that it was 'too hard'. Lots of mines around the place. Accidently left my thongs behind and drove off without them. Maybe they will be there next time???? TFTC

What a piece of history! I did not notice the old battery in the evening rush to setup the camp, and was pleasantly surprised in the morning coming back for the cache. Amazing spot, thanks for marking it out.

First cache in the morning after having camped at Turon Reserve.
Two possible tracks from the starting point, and of course we took the wrong one first.
Turned around and found the right one which took us to the cache.
Took a rat, left Bart Simpson comic book.

Nice location hidden off the main track that makes you wounder how many off these campers even know that so much history is right next to them. Sat back up the hill and watched the kids sort themself out with finding the cache.

Nice hike up the hill as the rain set in. Heaps of mines to explore, found a platypus skeleton and an unrecognisable body at the end of one. Good times all round

Loved this cache and the area you brought us to. Great history.

Upon arriving at GZ had a swinging gps but a rough idea. Spotted a little bit of plastic.

I think all cachers should do the SR series and tack on the others. An excellent day had by the family.

Took a while to find, don't know why, the cache is enormous. Should have stood back and just looked. Interesting area. Good exercise just getting to this one. Thanks. 11th and final find for weekend. Now my legs ache.

Fascinating historical remnants in this area. I wonder what the old houses here were for. More like huts though. The only remains are the stone foundations and the big stamper . Great place to let the imagination run wild into how life was like back then. Building that road was no mean feat.

01-Jan-09
You have to wonder at the stories behind all the remnants of structures and mining that are scattered hereabouts. Fascinating area and a great place to visit and wander around.

Headed up to the cache site and an easy find after checking out the stamper and old mine sites at the bottom of the hill. Theres a lot of history here which would require the best part of a day to investigate fully.

With a nice campsite down by the river this one might get a return visit.
Thanks for showing me this site.

This was the first in the series as we headed out of HillEnd. Its amazing how small the dwellings were at this point in time, I'd hate to have lived under those conditions. Took the watch puzzle and left some crayons.

Another one whilst on the Hill End 4wd event. Mr Stilllookin took the high easy road, getting there first, whilst everyone else took the low road and Mr Rat still beat him to the goodies. Yet another nice place we have been meaning to stop at for some time now.

Found while on return from Hill End 4x4 Event Weekend.
Nicely placed in a very interesting area. The log says #3 but the cache is #4. Hmmm... Maybe too much "settling ale" over lunch! [B)]

Took - King Neptune
Left - Dune DVD

Cheers!

On the 4x4 event cache weekend. The Rats' Dave said "it's in the gully", so we followed him, he was wrong and Mrs McPodie thought she was going to keel over, but we made it.

On the way out of Hill End we stopped by to pay a visit to this cache. We have a cache of our own hidden in a very similar way. Love it! I'm sure we took something and left something else but I can't remember exactly what. Should have taken notes along the way. Thanks for the cache.

After realizing that for some reason, the prior 3 in this series were not loaded in the gps and that we had well and truely passed them, we consoled ourselves with a find on this one.

So much history is hidden away in the hills here!

Nice size container too. Had already got rather burnt on the way to here today, so, could not wait to get out of the sun and into the air cond again.

Swapped a pen torch / light thing for a gel candle in a nice glass container.

Was not planning on coming back to Hill End via the bridle track, was going to go via Dixons Long point instead, but with the stuffup on the earlier 4 caches, I may have to.

Happy New Year from Team Webguy

We tried to do this one yesterday with the Scenic Routers entourage in tow. However when we got to the Turon River the water flowing over the causeway made it obvious that we would not be taking our vehicles across. However a couple of keen geocachers namely Bruce and Dick (Scenic Routers) decided to try and traverse the flast flowing river. Just short of mid way they realized it was too hazardous and after a few stressful moments as they managed to turn around and keep their balance made it back to the road. Twisted Today it was just the Liz and Bruce team. Approached the cache from Hill End. Wow what a big hill to come down - when we got to the bottom found the river still at about the same level as yesterday. So any thoughts to heading back to Bathurst on the bridle track were put out of out mind. Found the cache easily, the coords were spot on. TNLN. Now back up the hill! Thanks Scenic Routers for the great adventure and the wonderful scenery we saw over the two days.Big GrinBig Grin

Had to cross the fast flowing creek to get to this cache. Tricky riding a bike through 25 to 30cms of fastflowing river but fun (should have taken the boots off first though.) Nice spot for the cache and to explore a few old mines. Left a watch game and grabbed 'M and M' TB.

10-Jul-05
Decided at lunch time to spend the rest of the day out and about doing the Bridal Track Caches. This one was first off the rank. I am glad I did the harder end first because it was dark by the time we got to the other end. TNLN. Thanks Scenic Routers. Team '80'

We used to camp just next to the river opposite where you turn to go up to the cache so we know this area very well. If you go above the cache location there are stacks of mines but most are vertical so be careful. If you walk upstream to around S33°03.762' E149°25.469' there is an old orchard and where the Chinese open cut style mining took place. There is a vertical mine downstream just near the causeway, which is normally half filled with water and has fish with no eyes living in it. Drove on a bit further and camped the night by the river.
Took neck cooler thing.
Left Surfboard and King Neptune.
