Thanks for the cache EdwardsClan, found a great little campsite at Thomson. We spent a lovely night there, shared with two other vans. This morning's mission was to visit Horse Shoe Bend, following the old rail formation. I stopped for this one, a real challenge to sign the log, but I honed my balancing skills and the structure held up.

Bridge number 10 is what the workers at the gates prior to the path called this bridge. The Bridge to Walhalla is number 8, number 9 fell down like I thought I was going to searching for cache.
I really did think this cache find was going to be easy. I was so so wrong..
The path to GZ was surprisingly nice it was flat and well maintained it was dry and had a beautiful landscape. Well I actually couldn't work out how to get to GZ I was wondering if my GPS was screwed up like at the previous cache. I got to the bridge but couldn't see the other end. I read the hint and my stomach dropped surely not I thought, nope not doing that. I stood back and pondered the situation, re read the hint and a few of the comments. I almost walked away defeated but thought I might explore a bit before totally giving up. I was praying that the GPS was wrong and that the cache would magically appear, it didn't. I built up my courage and kept exploring, this really is an impressive place. After about 30 minutes of careful navigation, and a semi systematic search the cache appeared. Such a satisfying find Woo hoo. No happy dance, I was still cautious about falling. Made my way back to the top of the path and had another conversation with the workers before heading home content.

We stumbled upon this cache on our way home and after a bit of a nostalgic walk around the station. Unfortunately we weren’t able to load the cache details on our device other than to navigate. It was an interesting walk with views of recent flooding along the fast flowing creek. GZ required a bit of a down hill scramble hoping our compass wasn’t leading us astray. We were very pleased to find the cache and enjoy an interesting view of the historic bridge.
Thanks so much for a memorable cache location EdwardsClan and Cache Guardians.

the last visit, with an old friend from school, had us crawling under, through and over that old rusty railway bridge without spotting a skerrick of cache
today was a day for redemption
taking the train down from walhalla we left the madding station crowd and took the southern track once more
soon enough it came to that point
where track and dignity must be left behind
and the descent tackled
but there must have been something different in the air
as this time that rusting behemoth gave up its jewel with a whimper
and we could depart content
cheers

Seeing The Welder and I were in the area, The Welder suggested we do some maintenance on this cache and see if we can find it. A pleasant walk to go on a cloudy day... except for the snake!!! Of course you could say, it was just a baby... but when there is a baby..: there is sure to be a Mumma!!! Despite years of caching, it is first spoke snake... eke! Great location for a cache. Love the old infrastructure!! Thanks for the cache! It’s in perfect condition.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late and generic log, something I am notorious for. Thank you Cache Guardiansfor adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

We were able to take a short stroll into this cache. It is lovely view along the river here and it was great to see this structure still here. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here. We would love to have had time to explore the track further.
We all took a short walk out to this cache. It is a lovely view of the river and thankfully, the fires didn't get to here. This was a quick find once we got to GZ. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
We initially came down to have a sticky nose at the railway track over the creek but once we realised there was a cache further along we continued on. With Papi4506, Geoturtle37, micaparamedic and beckNmonts we made our way over the uneven ground to begin the search. Lucky for us Papi's stature came in handy and the container was spotted by his eagle eyes fairly quickly.
Thanks EdwardsClan for the hide down here great view to be had, especially this morning with the smokey mist, setting the scene perfectly.

Wow, what a beautiful area! I love locations such as this that geocaching showcases! Thanks so much for placing this cache EdwardsClan
That was definitely the toughest one today! Had to double back as I'm sure a lot of people have to do. All clean and shiny in good condition. Tnln Tftc!
Tftc Stefan. I really liked this one although it was my hardest find today. My literal mind got confused with the clue which is a little ambiguous compared to stating N or S end of structure. Despite being a local I've not been down this track before so thanks for getting me hete and the TB was a bonus.
Maintenance has been performed. (RC)

Now this was something!!
I'd shared a great road trip out to Bairnesdale with BendSinister for the '2 Months to the Mega' event, and I was adamant that I wanted to stop by here on our way back home.
Typically, time got away from us...
I'm sure it would have been an ample adventure to take on in daylight, but that's not how I roll.
The desolate railway that vanished into the blackness of night at a dizzying altitude above the song of the river was a surrealist's delight.
After I'd finished investigating the bridge at close range, I rejoined BendSinister on solid ground. And soon we were surprised to find we weren't alone... a man and his dog were camping out of a motor home, which they'd somehow managed to get beyond the vehicle barriers and turn into a powered site. Given the location, I'm sure the camper would have been as surprised to hear our approach at night, as we were to see him!!
We continued on the path until the GPS started messing with our good judgement.
A preliminary investigation off the path near GZ revealed no relevant infrastructure...
For those who follow in daylight, you must be shaking your heads as to how we could not notice an entire elevated railway line in the middle of a forest, from just a few meters away!!
I know, right!!!
So we continued on the trail until we got a lock on what we were looking for. But it turns out, we were now taking the more difficult route in.
Excellent...
The unfriendly vegetation and prehistoric mosquitoes the size of a bread and butter plates should have made this an unpleasant trek. But it didn't. We were too busy being awestruck by the massive derelict infrastructure that dominated the valley yet was cloaked by the vegetation and always disappeared into the shadows beyond our torchlight.
Eventually, the epic adventure reached its conclusion and the find was made.
What an unexpected joy this smiley was, made even better by the darkness of night.
Thanks so much to the EdwardsClan and Cache Guardians for this excellent hike.
It was a great place to drop a TB.

It was a great place to drop a TB.
This was pretty great. Though it's possible that night-time making everything spookier and harder to see played a big part. The Welder declared that this cache was to receive a spot of maintenance well in advance but I didn't realise it related to decaying rail infrastructure until we were almost there. I heart me some decaying rail infrastructure. There was also plenty of non-decaying stuff on the way to GZ, making for a pleasing entrée. And a lone dude in a caravan whose weekend of remote solitude we likely spoiled. Which is always nice.
Amusingly we couldn't figure out where the cache could possibly have been placed when we initially approached GZ. "What bridge? Wasn't the bridge hundreds of metres back?" I may have uttered. We descended the slope a few metres but were no more enlightened for having done so. It took some more extensive torch-play before the enormous, spooky iron and wood skeleton was found to be silently staring back at us from the gloom. Feel free to mock as appropriate, dear reader; I'm sure it's unmissable by day. Getting to the bridge and the specific feature described in the hint required non-trivial time and effort. And slipping and sliding around under the bridge. The bases of some of the pylons are barely even there nowadays so it wasn't hard to imagine precipitating a spectacular collapse with one unlucky hand placement.
The existing logbook was in pretty good condition really. I could name dozens of caches in a worse state. Great though that The Welder's replacement will prolong the life of an excellent placement. I guess I'll need to look out for other caches bearing the EdwardsClan name. Thanks Cache Guardians for keeping an eye on this one.

This is on our list but owing to the distance from Melbourne, we have having some trouble getting to it. (MD)

Wasn't sure which way to approach this one, and was soon bush bashing and worrying about leeches. No leeches but a cache in hand brought a bit smile to my face (and my geocaching map).
Unfortunately the caches had about an inch of water in the bottom. The log book, which was inside a zip lock bag, whilst not soaking wet, was still quite damp.
I tipped the water out, wiped the cache seals down as best I could, but this cache could do with some attention, probably a new container and log book.

Heading home from an event in Walhalla this afternoon and looking forward to finding the odd cache or two along the way.
Enjoyed the walk into this one and the exertion at the GZ trying to find the prize. Finally found the cache in a hot and sweaty condition (me, not the cache) and returned to the track for a leech check before the walk back to the car.

Big old DNF on this cache, I thought I was following the hint instructions - but nothing noticeable appeared to me. I enjoyed climbing around on the old bridge, would have loved it even more if I'd known the exact spot of the cache.
After doing some MTB tracks nearby we stopped and explore the Coopers Creek area, certainly another attraction for area! TFTC

Unbelievable, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. With the walk along the river and through the bush combined with the railway and goldfields history, I absolutely loved it. I used to go gold prospecting in the Walhalla area years ago and it is surely one of my favourite places in all Australia. The cache itself is thoroughly deserving of a favourite point, the placement was enough to get the heart pumping. Wow... definitely up there as one of the best yet.. thanks..!!
Enjoying the long weekend caching with gwd.aussie.
We walked in from Thompson Railway Station and after a little bit of bush bashing it was gwd.aussie who grabbed this cache.
Thanks EdwardsClan I love this area of Victoria.

Thanks for the Geocache !! I found this last month at the start of our rafting trip on the Thompson river with a bunch of school students, I have learnt after this trip not to entrust students with the pens and pencils after finally finding the cache the students informed me they lost the pen so I wasn't able to sign this log, sorry I couldn't sign it. ! If you need further confirmation I can message you!!! Cheers
Ps - what a beautiful old bridge

Went looking for this cache today.
I walked in from the Thomson Railway Station. I soon found that I had taken the wrong track, I doubled back and made my way onto correct track. the last 90 metres I had to do a bit of bush bashing. I took a punt of the location of the cache. I soon located the cache and read the log pages and then put my name in the log and replaced it. I took a couple of photos and then head back out.

After much searching, finding a little frog friend and lots of mozzies, we had to conclude that the cache has been compromised, either by foul play or by the weather as we located only the A4 note to say congratulations for finding this cache. No container or alike that we could find. The paper was very wet but intact, in the undergrowth below.
Awesome location! We started out on the other side of the bridge. It was a challenge to cross to the other side. But it was worth it to find the cache
Thanks Edwards Clan.
Thanks Edwards Clan.
Found this one after a 600 metre walk from the train stn . The track is over grown so be careful of snakes or in the wet leaches . You can always follow other walking track then when you get to the bridge below you climb down the face !
Far too dangerous for me to tackle so I just stayed on the path and pointed, it's very overgrown and lots of prickles so Biggles of Oz did all the hard work having to walk over the bridge, which I thought was far to hazardous, and he returned safely but with scratches galore. I like the safer caches.
We've been meaning to try for this cache for a couple of years now as we passed by the old station either enroute to Walhalla and beyond or back home so we arrived early and set out to find it - and find it we did! Mind you though, getting to the cache was a challenge on a couple of fronts. First challenge was to get close to the GZ and I figured the easiest way (!) to get close was to walk along the old steel beams from the southern end, which is not something I would recommend any sensible person who may not be sure footed or suffer vertigo. The second challenge was interpreting what was meant by "far side" as noted in the hint. Far-side from the track (nope) or far-side from the river (yep) and since we came along the track I figured far-side was relative to the track. Needless to say it took a couple of dodgy cross-overs from the main support beams to get to the "far-side" and back again before the cache was located. Don't bother trying from the ground unless you like getting ripped apart by thorny blackberry bushes and other 'spikey' things.
None-the-less enjoyed the challenges of locating this cache and finding out about a bit more nearly forgotten local history.

Well, I had been given approval for five days of annual leave, so I had to make a decision on what to do with it. I had noticed the Abandoned Railway series published late last year, so I decided to head towards Moondarra State park and then Mount Baw Baw for four or five days.
After a restless nights sleep, I was up with the birds and had my camp disassembled in a matter of minutes. I then headed for this one, my first cache of the day. I noticed it had not been found for some time, so an unloved cache was also a bonus. I parked at Thompson station and made my way along the riverside track towards GZ. It is unfortunate that the track is beginning to be over run by blackberries, otherwise, a fantastic experience, I especially loved the last part across the bridge. Cache was found after a bit of tooing and froing across the bridge. A favorite awarded for this one.
Thanks to EdwardsClan for the cache. TNLN.

A bit tricky this one. Gotta be careful taking the children to find this as there are some nasty drops! Easily found after a short search. Thanks for the cache. Tony and John.
Love the ride in and the history of the area but couldn't get near GZ Without a bush bash trough blackberry or a walk along the bridge spans. Thanks for bringing us here though.
Got many mozzie and leech bites but totally worth it! Found with fat tones under educachers.

3.00pm Staying at Rawson for the weekend with a bunch of squares. Having completed the historical walk around Walhalla in the morning we had some spare time to try some caching in the area.
While Toycar, Mrs X and XCati were trudging along the water way to Broke Mr X succeeded to obtaining this one. Under guidance from a previous abtainer Mr X got down to the brass tacks and did the bottom shuffle as a safer option. I would have loved to to see that. Excellent cache

Awesome cache!! Nice walk to gz and top little spot it was. Our first cache for the day, spending the weekend in Rawson and exploring around a bit instead of just shooting straight through like we usualy do when passing by this way. Thanks EdwardsClan, definate favorite. TNLNSL.
Loved this cache tip toeing over Coopers Creek Bridge, just as I had cache in hand the train sounded it horn back at the station and I was glad that the train didn't come along this far anymore. Thanks Stefan for your first cache. signed log did swaps.
Visiting Walhalla with muggle friend Jeanette for 2 nights. We caught the train yesterday as it was not operating today. We walked into this cache from the train station. The start of the path was good, then it turned into a winding track. As we approached GZ we re-read the information and thought it must be at the end, so we continued to walk to reach the point where bridge meets path once again. No not this end. Walk back along track and then climbed down the hill. Reached the bridge and then did the bum wiggle out the bridge to find the cache. I take my hat off to those that walked out the bridge. Things we do for a plastic container.

Walked in from the road, very steep and thick bush but only a short distance. On the last section remembered a story from a recent visitor to this cache, had a chuckle and then had the same problem also! The wet weather made this find much more interesting, but a great hide.

Well this one didn't quite go as I thought it would. After a short walk to reach GZ, I then headed out along the bridge with plenty of bravardo. Nothin' to it I'm thinking when I trip slightly on an overhanging tree that has come down on the old bridge. I didn't fall but came close. That was it. I had lost my nerve. Must be getting old. Headed back to terra firma and decided on plan B. Turned out that wasn't much better and I probably should have just kept going with plan A. haha. Found the great hidy spot and cache therein. All in good nick. TNLN Thanks to the EwardsClan for placing a cache here. Great fun.
Found @ 1130 after making the walk to GZ in the rain. As I was on my own I took my time getting to the cache, signed the log and turned around with care before making it back to terra firma. Surprisingly only had to burn off 3 leeches when I got back to the car.

#275 Found at 5.30pm. Our last ANZAC Day cache. We didn't quite know how to get to this one but followed the "force", luckily it let us to the path to GZ. GeoPrincess WAS NOT HAPPY about Dad balancing his way out to GZ & was hanging on tight to the Queen just in case she got any funny ideas of joining him. Must say that we were suitably impressed with the GreyNomads effort in getting to this one! Once Dad had cache in hand he had to traverse his way back to log the find thus doubling GeoPrincess's anxiety. With daylight fading quickly we had to beat a hasty retreat back up the path before it got too dark. We love these trestle bridges.

Took the long walk from the station along the traintrack and then the slippy path. Got near to GZ and geohubby who is a whisker off 70!! headed off through the undergrowth, down the steep and wet hillside, and along the balance beam, or was that the slippy, wet metal bridge, walking it like a tentative learner gymnast. It wasn't possible to walk the longer way, from the other end of the bridge as trees and branches had fallen across it making it impassible from there. TNLNSL Ahh but then he had to turn around and walk back along the bridge and scramble up the hill. Whoah, deserved 3.5 and 3.5

By the PDA it looked like this one was on the road at first but not so. After a walk from the bridge we soon arrived here and Geojen left me to make the precarious walk along the beam to the cache. Would be nice to see an old steam train come trundling along here but thats only going to happen in my imagination it seems.
Thanks again

Found this one at 10:35 with Alsume on our way to a tour of Walhalla following our walk along the rooftop yesterday. This one certainly earned its 3 star rating and had me wondering why a 10 metre drop plays certain tricks on the mind that a 1 metre drop from the same sized beam doesn't . What a great structure though.
TNLNSL. Thanks EdwardsClan.

Found at 10:35am with Eudes and Steph on our way into Walhalla. A nice walk in and had some fun getting to GZ by different routes.

A last minute decision was made while heading out of town to attempt this cache - and I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed the walk and the opportunity to see the 'stuff' that other people probably wouldn't get to see. The cache hadn't been logged for quite a while (since May this year), so I'm happy to say that I found it in the intended hiding position and that the contents are all dry and in good nick. TNLN & SL at 3:45pm. TFTC - I really enjoyed this one!
2007-05-17 10:23 Found with Trunksnsuch after a nice strol from Thompson station.Great.bridge TNLNSL Regards Crisp Image.
Nice hidden bridge - thank you for showing it to us. Found with Crisp Image after a nice stroll. Took keychain in case I have to refill Key Largo in the future and I am sure I am losing my marbles so they went into the cache. It was nice visiting a cache in this area that wasn't affected by bushfires. Thanks EdwardsClan
We tried this one a couple of times over a two day period, after alot of searching, Thylo concluded that due to tar work being done in the area the cache might of been discovered. Thyla did not want to give up on this one, but no luck for us this time round.
Thanks for the hunt.

Cache ten of twenty for the day in the company of Dak Emu. The cache was found at 14:45. This had to be the most eventful cache for the day, Parking was at a premium at this spot and after finally getting the beast in to a tight spot we headed off to find the cache. The train soon came along so we walked back 50m to see it. The next major event was when dak decided to dive head first into the under growth, It looked like he was after a FTF or something, he then repeated this 20m down the track. Our next dilemma was the awful smell as I tried to evacuate the area in a hurry I took out my shin on a piece of steel sticking out. We then found our selves at the wrong end of the bridge. The cache was then located. This turned out to be my 900th cache find. Thanks.
Eleventh of 21 finds with acts2youthgroup on our "Big Day Out in Walhalla". Although this one looked to be close to the road, we found that we had to drive past it and walk back. On the way, we saw the train cross the bridge: pity it was only a diesel, and not a real locomotive.
For some reason, I became maladroit on the way to GZ, and actually fell over twice! [B)] We started looking at the wrong end of the bridge (blithely ignoring the GPSr). We decrypted the hint, but we didn't find the cache at the place indicated. Then A2YG took the skin off his shin on a wayward girder! Ouch! [B)] Also, I must have brushed up against something unsavoury, because my pants ended up smelling of raw sewage! [xx(] We finally noticed that the GPSr was indicating 40m to go, and we headed for the other side of the bridge. Like Rabbitto, we wimped out on walking across the bridge. Once at the proper GZ, A2YG found the cache at 1445. Thanks to EdwardsClan and Stefan for an interesting (if injury-prone) cache.
All-in-all, it was an eventful cache. However, if we had followed the GPSr properly, we would have ended up at the correct end of the bridge to start with, and none of those misfortunes would have befallen us. I think there is a lesson in there somewhere.

G'day from Team Cruiser,
great little spot we always love coming up here.Found it pretty easy, but did have a little trouble as a tree was over the track, so we just had to take the longer way in, enjoyed the walk but it was slightly wet and alot of leeches out. took toy car and left dog figurine.
Thanks Edwards Clan

Found at 12:45pm. Second of nine finds on route to Thompson Reservoir. Pulled up at the car park just in time to watch the train cross the bridge. Fantastic. Followed the trail to the cache bridge straight to the wrong side. Flirted briefly with the idea of walking across the bridge to the other side but looked down, chickened out and walked around. Used the clue to find. Great placement and a great area. Thanks Edwards Clan from D,S & H B-A.
Found at 5.05pm GAFF1. When we got to GZ we thought we were going to be there for some time due to the many interesting hidey holes around the place and poor GPS reception. However with luck we found it in the second place we looked. We had just arrived in the area and had set up our van at the Rawson c'van park and came straight over to this interesting spot. Took: Pen, Left: 20 Euro cents Thanks EdwardsClan & Stefan.
This was the sixth of fifteen caches found today while out with Team Crackers. When we pulled up to this one the tourist train was crossing the nearby bridge, I ran, which in hindsight was not necessary, to beat the train to the crossing. CrackerMum and Dad didn’t follow my lead instead preferring to stop and take some photos of the Train. By the time that they caught up with me, all that remained to be done was to sign the log.
Thanks especially to Stephan for hiding your first cache.

Found at 14:35, this was the sixth cache for the day while out with Cracker Girl. We circled GZ for awhile trying to work out what would be the best and quickest way to access it. After some debate the car was parked and we were off. On our way to this one the Walhalla tourist train was crossing the nearby bridge. #1 and #2 stopped to watch it while #3, aka Cracker Girl, continued on down the track. By the time #1 and #2 had caught up the cache had been found and all that was left to do was to sign the log.
TNLN as we had left the swaps in the car.
Thanks EdwardsClan and Stefan for your first hide.

Found by Mary & David at 0845. A nice short walk early in the morning as the mist slowly clears. This trail features in our book of rail trails, which speculates that the railway may one day be extended towards Erica. The bridge is very interesting, but will need a lot of work if it is ever to carry rail traffic again. The fallen girder at the southern end seems to have been cut away from the main structure. Took van, left Porsche. There was a bit of activity in the rail yard on our way back to the car park - a team setting up to inspect the track. Our thanks to the Edwards Clan.
I walked much of this track a few years ago and enjoyed it then. This time I only needed a short walk to arrive at GZ. Initially, the GPS took me right across to the far side, but as it settled down, it brought me back to the right general area.
EPE was high and, after a bit of a look around in various places, I eventually decrypted the clue. I soon had the cache in my hands. No exchange was made. My thanks to the Edwards clan for the cache and for bringing me back to this great area.

Also long time fan of this area had never quite been this far down the track before. Took playing cards left puzzle.
For at least 15 years the Coffee Clan has been visiting this area, and we had been in the process of setting up a 3 months research cache series, oh well back to the planning board.
The Edwards Clan have done an excellent job of locating caches in some of the best locations throughout Walhalla and that said we had to be FTF.
After a walk along a familiar track we arrived at the GZ and set about locating the cache, Shelby was the winner and found the cache after a short search our 35th FTF.

Thank you again Edwards Clan.
