Went to attempt but yes the track is still closed. Spoke with one of the locals who advises they have been doing a lot of building and digging up there so thats why the track is closed.
The coastal track is officially closed. Not sure when they are intending to open it again. So I guess this one remains dormant for a while. Might pay to contact the Rodney County Coucil to find out.
This is our first go at Caching we went walking after dinner with kids along the track. It was a fabulous evening with awesome views. Great fun to find.
The kids took the whistle and Hello Kitty tattoos swapped for a pencil and gloves.
We found a travel bug left inside No. XMF5C7 which we left for the more experienced.

We found it as George192 and have now changed our name to the Cache Investors.
Our daughter recommended we visit Goat Island as she and her husband love to come snorkelling here when they have free time. We stayed at the campsite on the hill above the bay and took an evening walk to find the cache. We had a little trouble finding the path just above the University buildings, as there is some excavation work taking place, but were soon back on track and on our way. Fantastic views along the cliff top and a good track to follow. Spotted some colourful birds and loved listening to the different bird calls in the trees. Excellent location and well-hidden cache. We picked up Wendy TB to move on and dropped off Kaos Kid Boxing Glove TB. Thanks for bringing us here. SL. TFTC.
Found whilst on an adventure with Explorz. Nice cache - it enticed us to begin! Beautiful views, would wear more appropriate footwear next time!
Intrepid journey. Overcast weather yet still managed to get burnt it's that time of year again!

Thanks for giving us the impetus to finally visit and walk this lovely track. What great views...
Easy find! Great to have an excuse to get back to another track we haven't walked for a long time. Beautiful day and beautiful spot.

This marine reserve is amazing especially 'eye-balling' those huge snapper swimming past the rocks we were standing on.
Slipping sliding & skidding along the track after all the rain that has fallen. Still worth the walk out to this spot for the views. The cache took a while to discover even after decrypting the clue. Maybe the cache has been moved as it was not revelent to the clue at all! TFTC

Great walk, found the right spot, but do you think we could find the cache? Searched for about 30 mins. Might try again another day.
Wet wet wet, what an ugly weather but a nice walk and beautiful views at the end.

On a field trip for a Coastal management paper from Otago Uni. We stayed at the Leigh Marine reserve for a couple of nights which was great fun. Thanks for the walk, had to quietly sneak past a herd of bulls in the paddock, stamping their feet at me aghh!!!

13:23 First of 2007 for us, Happy new year one and all. We took a friend “Coralie†with us to find this cache and she really enjoyed the experience, might have another convert to the game
Goat Island was full of people but the walk to the cache was very quiet, enjoyed the walk and the views at the end of the walkway. It was a shame we couldn’t walk all the way to the lighthouse, we will have to see if we can get to it another way.
Thanks for the cache and the walk.

Was a lovely day so knocked off a bit early and went up the track. GPSr was terrible under the canopy and had walked right past by 100m or so before I realised. Had a hard time finding due to the lack of fix but got there in the end. I had to use the clue and had a good look around a few of the indicated items. It was when I got back to the first one I saw a hint of the container nearby.

Running out of time and daylight but made a dash for it. Nice walk, not muddy and zoomed into the cache site without any problems! With more time would be good to go further on.
Showers all afternoon and very wet underfoot. Good place to leave Udderly the Walking Cow TB. TFTC
11.00am. This was a wet muddy slippery hike. So much rain about lately. Even had a couple of brief showers. Took a while to find the right spot. (Too wet for good coverage) The grandkids loved it. - sheep + veg peeler.
Thank you David & Noeline

A Sunday afternoon too good to be sitting in side. Been to Goat Island a few times but not past the Lab. It was quite muddy under foot along the track and there were lots of expectant ewes in the paddock. Found the cache ok. Took the yoyo and left a funky pink pen.
Went on a bit further and found a great little water fall with an outstanding view out to the Hen and Chickens and the Mokohinaus off the track. This detour is only recommended for the very sure of foot and definitely not by yourself.
Thanks for the cache.

I had been through here with a group just before the cache was placed and when I read the description I plotted the co-ords and noted we had [passed within 2 metres of it.
Today, what a great day, weather wise, we were passing but a look at Goat Island from above indicated cars were parking half way back to Leigh so I opted to try the farm track route.
As I stopped the vehicle I heard a hissing noise and since we had just traversed the Pakiri Hill I thought "Radiator" but it was a tire! %*&^%$! Half an hour later in a very "sweaty" state, we were able to head for GZ where my wife quickly spotted the cache. It was nice to sit in some shade to fill in the log before a hot uphill trek.

Nice wander along the cliffs. Cliftop track is very overgrown, use the farm track near the end of the trail to get to the cache.
My 1 year old daughter's first cache.
She chose the car, added wind-up Santa.

Found at 19:00 after a good snorkel at nearby Goat Island. Was a nice walk, a little sore on the legs after the snorkeling. Some nice views out to the near by islands, Little Barrier etc.
We were rather lucky, as we set off from the car park just after a rain shower then got back to car and another one started.
Cheers

Top geocaching weather: driving rain, 30 knot onshore winds, clifftop walk. Besides that it was quite a pleasant stroll. Great cache, easy find thanks.

Brilliantly clear day, if not windy! Can almost touch Little Barrier. Track very boggy and muddy - not so good for sandals!
