Time for a cache audit.

Several of my caches have ended up in a degree of disarray, many of which are proving difficult to come up with suitable replacements, and some of which are just prone to muggling or other forms of demise.

My Docklands series caches are now getting impractical due to securing of the precinct, and increased contstruction.

So, time for this one to end up archived.

Thanks to all who've logged it, and sorry to all those who missed the chance.

For those waiting for it to go back on line for the Docklands series, the other docklands caches are now changing to traditionals instead of puzzles.

Another one bites the dust.

Will check shortly.

You can add me to the list Sad. I was passing nearby, and took the opportunity to have a go at this, but I hadn't updated my PDA recently and hadn't realized the number of dnfs it has accumulated. I searched in the obvious spots, but I guess it's probably gone.

Thanks anyway Partic

I failed to find this one whilst out riding on the Capital City Trail.
As with the previous logs, it does look like the cache has gone AWOL. I had a very good look for this one despite the numerous passing muggles both on dry land and in pleasure craft nearby.
There were even people setting up for New Years eve celebrations that were 7 hours plus away!

Sad

We searched high and low.. I even got partially underneath and there was still no sign of this cache. I have a sneaking suspicision that this one has gone for a swim..

Thanks for taking us to this odd piece of art once again...

Merry Christmas..

Am new at this - and since we live in docklands gave it go. However, we had two tries and looked absolutely everywhere - in our search we uncovered a knife (obviously unrelated to the cache) which looked suspicious so we called the police and they came and collected it. No excitement on the cache front though. Will try others and hopefully this will give some clues..will keep trying!!!

Looked everywhere for a long time, but didn't find it.

Easy and enjoyable find on last day of visit from Hobart. Had lunch at nearby restaurant and a good walk around Docklands before doing the city shops and then heading home on a late flight.
TNLN (swaps bag packed in luggage). Thanks for showing us this art.

14-Jul-06
A great chance to explore docklands. I'd never been here before, so we went for a stroll, grabbed some breakfast and picked up a cache.

No more sticks left in the cache! So took a photo instead.

THanks Partic

@1.20pm found by Lisa and HTXman. Lisa's very first cache, but she had heard a lot about it before and she fell right into the detective role of not being seen and drawing unnecessary attention Smile
Comment to author: I must say, it's the largest micro I have ever seen Wink - Please note: Only 3 empty pages left in logbook!
In: VicUni pen
Out: Sky Diving DOUG (TB)

29-Jun-06
I'd been wondering why people kept saying it was larger than expected... thanks to HTXman's log I worked it out.

Size changed from Micro to Small.

We enjoyed the docklands area and did like the "cow up a tree", it looks cool - although the cow needs a tail! Found the cache after we decrypted the hint. Thanks for the cache.
Took: Plastic Hippo
Travel Bug: "The Geocacher's Teledex"
Green Paddle Pop Stick (there is only one left now)

Left: Shiny Silver Snap Lock and a

Did not expect to really find a cow in a tree.

Like other I did not expect to find such a big cache.

Do they still play football across the road? Go the Power.

Two in a day. Went with Jody to find this one. The footy was in its final few minutes at the Dome. The 'D's' fans will be happy - they won, and we could clearly hear their theme song being played. Good location.

10-Jun-06
Nice sculpture and plenty of skateboarders at GZ but i quickly located the cache which is much bigger than a micro.Logged the book ,found at 1.30pm ,and the city skyline view from here was minimal due to the fog cover .TNLN and thanks to Partic.

09-Jun-06
Found at 1:39pm during a lunch break. Interesting sculpture and story behind it. Cows up trees.... who would have thought! TFTC!

04-Jun-06
Fourth find of the morning on my way to the big match at the dome. Nice easy find. Just two sticks left so I let them be. Turned out to be my last bit of good luck for the day as I walked away from the nearby football game empty handed.

03-Jun-06
A couple of interesting art pieces here, and the cache was an easy find. It was easy to retrieve even with muggles around by sitting beside it and putting my backpack down strategically. Did it while watching some amazing jellyfish in the river which I would have never guessed could have been there. T frog, L hippo. 2 Clues left in this cache. TFTC

09-May-06
Found at 12 past 9pm.

It is a very Melbourne night tonight. Cold and wet. As I am staying close by, I had to have a look for caches. This is a very well placed cache. Thanks.

The Tassie miners got out this morning and I thought geocaching would be a nice way to remember the day.

I took nothing.
I did, however, leave "Monte - TB" for the Melbourne leg of his adventure.

Followed up Spread Sheet stash with this one. T lick-a-prize clue LNSL. Helped by son B and spouse K.

Nice easy one for our early morning stroll around the splendid Docklands. This city is positively bristling with caches! Hope to find another one or two before returning to Sydney. Thanks indeed.

08-Apr-06
It was a dismal overcast morning when we chose to make our first visit to this area - so WHY was there a fisherman right at gz????????????? Went for breakfast, then returned to the cache. TN, L mini magnetic frog. Thanks

26-Mar-06
Found it, plenty of muggles in the area but they seemed to be starring into each other's eyes and not at a cacher going about his business. Sat here on top of the cache for about 5 minutes before getting to the paperwork. Nice area, and I am sure it will get better over the years. TFTC

21-Mar-06
There is indeed a cow up a tree.
Nice cacher friendly hiding spot too.
On to lick that prize now

22-Feb-06

After riding the capitol city bike ride and visiting the volvo ocean race displays we collected out first art work.

Kids were very excited to be looking for a cow stuck in a tree.

18-Jan-06
Second of 3 today - none of this 18 hour marathon caching for me ! Easy enough find. Thanks. Got my licks too !

17-Jan-06
Cache replaced in a slightly different location.

27-Oct-05
The location of this cache has been terrorproofed - sealed off so that nasty people can't hide devices under there for the Commonwealth Games.

Of course, this means that geocachers can't hide caches under there for the rest of the time, so I've managed to get this one out of trouble at the moment, having lost it's neighbour Shoal.

I've changed the clues on the Lick-A-Prize puzzle cache at the moment until the replacement is available.

07-Oct-05
Cache forty five of seventy seven for the day: in what we called The Big Assault eighteen hours of none stop caching.
This was an obvious hiding spot, but it’s a good job we have long arms.
The guys in the youth Group always talk about cow pushing; this of course is something I come down on them about.
Thanks.

Interesting art…
Thanks Partic.

Visiting from Canada, just had to see this Cow Up a Tree.
Was really busy around the cache, so had to drop back a few times. Took a stick, and hope to collect others if I have enough time. TFTC!

11-Sep-05
Found at 12.50pm GAFF3. As we were with a group of friends on a tour of some of the city sights, we wanted to quickly find this cache so as not to hold them up. Thanks Partic. tn/ln

Tim and I were scouting the start location for Bicycle Victoria's "Around the Bay in a Day" event which I am participating in this year. When we got there we realised "hey there's probably lots of caches around here" so we switched on the GPS and sure enough there was one just 15 meters from where we were standing so we went to investigate.

We worked out where the cache would be easily enough and there was hardly anyone around at that time of night so we retrieved the cache without any trouble.

T: Lick-a-prize clue.

L: Nothing.

That's an impressive cow up a tree. The things people call art.. I guess it did give us cause to stop and think!

10-Sep-05
Driving home from dinner, sarahg and I decided to take a scenic detour via docklands. The sight of the cow in the tree triggered a memory of a geocache alert, and we soon had the GPS pulled out. Sure enough we were almost on top of a cache. It was soon retreived as the muggles were light on the ground at 23:10 on a beautiful spring saturday night.

Took clue, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks Partic. We'll have to go back for the other Docklands caches now!

10-Sep-05
Found this morning after waking up and seeing a lovely morning. TNLN.
Thanks partic for a revisit to the area.

Took post-it notes,clue & T.B. "Two Fingers"
Left glow ring.

Thanks Partic.

31-Aug-05
Cycled here after work after waiting for the showers to pass. Although quite chilly it meant that there were few muggles about and I found the cache quickly at 18:10. I'm glad I didn't do this one at lunchtime in my suit!
Took: Mondo figure.
Left: Highlighter and sticky notes.

On to the next one - thanks Partic.

11.10am
Found by Roma and Max.
This and it's sister's GZ were both fairly busy this morning and we had to bide our time at both sites.
We took a Ram and left a Mondo .
Thanks again Partic,
from Romax.

Found at 4:15pm with the nearby cow still defying gravity.

took N
left TB Two Fingers
thanks Partic

17-Aug-05
Found it after reading the clue. Was expecting to only see the popsticks so an added bonus when a cache was there!

Opened her up to again expect to see only popsticks but was surprised to find some goodies (despite the owners wish not to have any) and TB The Dog!

This was so cool as we bought 5 TBs with us from WA. We can now send the Dog to the West.

Left 2 TBs in final cache.

14-Aug-05
Big Grin Attempted this one yesterday whilst riding the treadly thru the area. Retrieval impossible. Skaters are like seagulls - they're everywhere and in small flocks. Returned today in a suitably heated and wind proof vehicle. (Windy ? R3 was almost flying horizontal on his lead - and he weighs 45 kgs !!)Located Ok. Took roller stamp. Left lettuce seeds and new AA batts. Dropped off TB The Dog. The end of the series is in sight. Thanks Partic.

Maintenance Visit

Redistributed the paddle pop sticks and refreshed the available swaps.

01-Aug-05
Very interesting place to put a cow. This Minnesota gal is appreciating the Art, City and Geocaches in the area. Not many muggles by the time I got here. Clever placement! Took the Bunny rolling rubber stamp thing. Left a key, and an off white Di. Also, took a stick -- hope to solve the puzzle. Thanks much!!

Have gone past Cow Up A tree on the trams with work many times. Thyla has been meaning to come here and take a photo to add to her cow collection. Found cache very quickly. Will be tricky in summer. Took Ice pole stick for clue and signed log, and got photo we were after.
thank you for giving us more encouragement to come down here.

Found with BeccaJ in a lunch break. Not too many people around today, so a nice easy find. Just took the paddle pop stick. Thanks Partic.

14-Jul-05
In town for a seminar on the transport of dangerous goods being held at the sandpit across the road, the opportunity for some caching before catching the train home was presented. This was to be the first of what would amount to my most productive 75 minutes of caching ever!

With no-one around, I was able to walk straight up to this one for an easy find at 16:05.

Took clue, left nothing. Thanks Partic.

Hi Partic
Let me tell you about this one. What a saga! I've had a few goes here but continually came up as a failure mainly due to muggles but also because the cache was out of reach.
I left work at 7pm this evening and decided I'd get this one no matter what it took. I pulled up opposite GZ and parked in a loading zone, next to a channel 7 news crew. I thought here we go, I could be muggled very badly here, I might even bob up on the news. Anyway I wandered over to GZ, ducked down and climbed right in under the structure, which wasn't easy let me tell you. Found the cache as far in as is possable to go, stayed in my hiding spot and scrawled in the book, didn't bother with swaps, remembered the stick, and replaced the cache within reach of the next poor sucker. I had already deduced the co-ords for the last but haven't found it yet. Hopefully tomorrow.
By the way one of your "metal sticky things" in the bridge cache has come unstuck off the lid. If I'd taken some duct tape I would have fixed it with that.
Thanks Partic, I'm definatley making a meal of this series.
At least I can now say I did get a find today. LOL LOL.

04-Jul-05
I had seen this sculpture before it was moved. Glad to see it back again.
The cow looks more like a plastic milk bottle than Dobell's fake airstrip cows.
Took: another empty icy pole stick - sigh!
Thanks, Robmc.

02-Jul-05
Found at 12:05 am. GPS had me some distance away, and I thought I found it, but was unable to retrieve. After a few attempts, I checked the clue, only to find I was in the wrong place. Once at the right place (and with the benefit of the clue), it turned out to be an easy find - aren't they usually once the clue is decrypted.

I haven't been to this part of Melbourne before, although I've passed close by many a time. Thanks, Partic, for the cache and for introducing me to one of the newer parts of Melbourne.

02-Jul-05
Third of seven finds for the day. I was in the middle of the "City Circle Tram Event" in company with Muzza, so I took time off to find this one. I nice easy find, but as I was on the hoof, I didn't have any swaps with me, so TNLN. Loved the artwork! I grabbed the clue for the final cache. Thanks to Partic for the art-focused cache.

02-Jul-05
Found by caughtatwork at 10:30(ish).
In the company of Facitman and family as well as Rhinogeo I had collected the details of gc.com early this morning whereas they were slightly less prepared.
All following the one GPSr we found the cache and as a group we were completely unnoticed (I hope).
Took a little while to get all three logs in and we were away for the rest of the morning on the City Circle Tram Event.
Thanks Partic. This added an extra special activity to an otherwise fine day.

02-Jul-05
Found by The Facit Family at 10:30am

A quick detour during the City Circle Tram Event. The cache was in hand easily as no one around except other Geocachers!

TNLN (Took Clue stick!)

Thanks Partic

02-Jul-05
This is a very strange artwork that we are visiting for the second time today. The sight was remarkably devoid of muggles which resulted in a nice easy find. Replacing the cache took slightly longer.
TNLN
Thanks Partic, for placing these caches that further added to todays enjoyment.

02-Jul-05
Found on 02/07/05 @ 1030 AEST. In the area for the City Circle Tram Event, how could the opportunity to find a few extras be passed up? With the facit-family & c@w this cache was spotted quickly by Facitman and extracted from its hiding place.

TNLN (apart from a stick Wink)

Cheers Partic

02-Jul-05
Loved this piece of "art" when we visited it as part of the City Circle Event - well worth a return trip to find a cache.

02-Jul-05
Found by Mary & David at about 1555, after the City Circle Tram Event. We had a chuckle over this one during the event and loved the chance to return for the cache. Some skateboarders using the area looked as though they might make our access difficult, but we were saved by the Security Patrol, who moved them on and confiscated the plank they were using as a ramp right at GZ. TNLN but collected TB 'Back to Gilwell! Two'. Our thanks again to Partic.

02-Jul-05
another nice easy find

02-Jul-05
We arrived at this cache and met up with team Rabbitto and got down to the task of finding this cache.
After collecting clues all day our geo-brain was in top gear and the cache was found.
Many thanks Partic for another cache around a great days event.
TNLN
Regards Mr.Coffee and the "still have plenty of petrol" Clan.

02-Jul-05
We (Team Crackers and myself) had already seen this piece of artwork as part of the City Circle Tram Event. This piece of artwork tickled my fancy, especially once I discovered the artist inspiration.
The cache was quickly found and the log signed. Replacing the cache proved a little more difficult.
Thanks Partic for another great cache.

02-Jul-05
Found 12:30, a nice easy find as we headed for lunch Razz

TNLN, thanks Partic.

02-Jul-05
Found at 3:00pm. After leaving the cache event we drove over to this cache and met up with the Coffee Clan who had done the walk. Left Mr Coffee to find to allay signs of suspicious geocaching activity.

Thanks Partic from D,H,H & A B-A. Nice Cow. Collected another stick.

What a fine piece of art this one is. Few muggles around but we got it in the end, thans to some help from chefs on the run. Took geo penny and left Honk Kong coin. [^]

found while doing the caching event thanks for the cache

27-Jun-05
The Docklands Art Walk caches have been set up for the City Circle Tram Event on July 2 2005, and will remain in place following the event.

During the event (and even at other times), I would recommend a few groups of cachers get together to do these, as it will allow you to cluster together and create a suitable decoy when looking for at least two of the caches (Cow Up A Tree and Shoal). Individuals looking for these two will stick out like a sore thumb.

Also please take care to ensure you return the caches during the event appropriately.
