As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
Very disappointed not to find this one, and we spent a good deal of time on this one. Maybe we overanalysed the clues? Had to drag NZFlossy out as she does not like DNF's
No luck today and had two of us hunting in lots of places filled with rubbish - I kept telling myself this cache has a very low difficulty rating but still could not find it
Busy spot and full of rubbish and ... so found the cache and moved out quickly. Enjoyed the story behind the cave.
Found on Mr & Mrs TallGuy789's honeymoon trip around the Coromandel and back down to Wellington. Using the hint made for a fairly straight forward find. No road workers around today, but a large family arrived shortly after the formalities were done. TFTC.
Like paddle chick we also encountered a muggle in a fluoro vest moving the same cones around, but he soon got back in his truck and drove off. After a bit of hunting and reinterpretation of the clue Mr S soon had the cache in hand.
Mrs S got very dirty looking in the wrong spot, those bushes and trees are extremely dusty.
When I was a kid we often travelled up and down this road to Palmerston North to visit family and we always stopped at this rock. While Mum and Dad had a cup of tea I and my sister would play in the rock. My Dad told us the story and it always fascinated me and it was most likely me that badgered Dad to stop here so I could have another look at this special rock.
Many thanks to the CO's for taking me back there. I have been looking for it since we moved to Rotorua. It gets a FAV from us.

I tried to find this on my way up but there were 4 workers and a couple taking a photo, thought I would get it on our way home but didnt get a chance to stop but did see I am guessing from the last post spiderhouse looking
Didnt know if i'd be able to attempt this one when I pulled in. They are doing road works along here at the moment and a muggle in a fluro vest was standing right beside the rock Luckily he appeared to be moving a few road cones around and seconds later he was wandering back to the truck ... end of the days work so I was able to complete mine in peace TFTC
found after some searching taking the hint very seriously many different ways to try many thanks
No luck for stairman1 and I tonight. We hunted for at least 1/2 half an hour. TFTH
Third time lucky, Ithink the clues put us off the previos visits but quickish find today.

Lots of roads works nearby, we had to be wary of.
Found after a short search. TFTC

Had a quick look was very hot day so had to move on?lots of cars stopping in lay by.
On a road trip from Taupo to Hamilton today finding a 'few' caches along the way. Stopped off here to find this one. Didn't notice the bit in the listing with the new coordinates so used the hints to find the cache. Note - CO - this cache doesn't need maintenance so you can remove the needs maintenance flag by doing an owner maintenance log. Also, you can update the coordinates with an update coordinate log so the correct coordinates will be with the listing - TFTC, Biggles.
Had a quick look but a few muggles around and the family wanted to get back on the road.
Oh dear. Two times we have been here already, and never found the cache so far. Today, Rala finally spotted what we had missed the last times.

Suprising number of muggles stopping to stretch legs and dogs, so stealth and distraction required. Unfortunately cache eluded us! Better luck next time!
Finally found this one year after originally trying. Had previously misinterpreted the hint. Pleased to cross this off the list. TFTC
We looked , and looked and looked some more, at first we only found lot and lots of coins.. And a black dead cat near by. Eventually the cache reviled itself , log signed and a pocket full of $$$, thanks to the parking meter funds and TFTC. Can only hope the downer of $$$$ made the find.
This one turned out to be a very funny find for us. Found with J+J.au as we make our way back to Auckland. I will always remember the cache where we found all the non trackable geocoins and spent far to long searching in the wrong location. SL..TFTC
quick find on the way to Taupo TFTC.
Have wanted to get this one for awhile, read all logs and the clue so was a quick find.

No one else here, so we quickly grabbed the cache and signed the log, another car arrived as we were leaving. TFTC
Well... don't know why that was so hard to find. My third attempt. Had the layby to myself, and the nearby roadworks kept traffic flow down. Was much further down from where I'd previously searched. TFTC.
Third time lucky (mind you the second could hardly have countered as the GPS didn't have the cache loaded and I was only going on memory - fuzzy at that - as to where it might have been) anyway paused here briefly heading south and home. Once the logistics were worked out it, the cache was in hand in short order with a few toots provided by passing traffic. Honours completed on the log it was quickly and safely tucked away again. TFTC
We has just been told about this rock so it was cool to be able to stop here. No problems with the cache at GZ. TFTC!
Was greatfull for a start of our caching tour to Taupo, simple find in an area about to have big changes down the road, TFTC
Found when returning to Rotorua from a day trip to Waitomo Cave.
Luckily a local pulled up and placed some fern on the rock so we got to ask them what the story of the rock was about, otherwise we would not have known the references given in the hint. An interesting story which should perhaps go into the cache description for non local cachers.
Cache located and log signed and left one of our path tags (if you take it please log it so we know where it goes).
Thanks for the cache Mother Genius et al and greetings from Western Australia.
Day 9 : Cache 2 : Total Caches 26.

First time through here since I started Geocaching. First saw the rock about 57 years ago. I could hide in there easily then.

Liked the rock - would be nice to have a bit more of the story on the main page (I use a smart ohone, so can access this info).
Like others didn't know whether to look at the rock from the front or back. Looked both ways, but didn't find anything, so as time was ticking away and I was heading to New Plymouth after our GirlGuide Jamboree we left without a find

No luck for me either, had a good look around and checked several places

A very cool location. Got a little confused but the hint and had to retire after the arrival of a dozen muggles. We will be back!
We didn't know that the rock of Hatu Patu was here so it was nice to visit the place of a Maori legend (Hatu Patu hid from the Bird Woman in the rock and it closed over him to keep him safe). TFTC.
Travelling from Mangakino to Rotorua to find caches, but wasn't successful with this. Was obviously there, as was found after our visit. Wasn't too sure if we were meant to face road, or other side of rock when counting 4 to the left.
found with the help of the hint. What is the story behind the coins and baubles - left as offerings to the goddess?? TFTC
Found after some thinking about the clue. Would like to know more of the story and why there were offerings left in the rock. TFTC
No luck here ... but was a bit hard with muggles around to and also alot of trash around. Will watch with interest
A quick find with Crystal Fairy while travelling south from Auckland. Cache location was a bit different from what we expected using the hint. Signed log, TFTC.
Found with agcnz on our weekend caching spree. Thanks for the cache. My definition of the hint definitely didn't fit with the location of the cache.
Watched lots if muggles leave gifts and touch the rock. A very special place. (Log book is full and damp.)
#1105 Quick find on our homeward journey sadly from Easter in the Sth Is. Thanks for the history. SL. TFTC.
fitzy_1965 and I visited NZ over the Easter Long Weekend on a caching run. We were here in early January this year for a holiday and a caching run. Then I won Business Class return flights to Auckland on Emirates (the flight was awesome by the way) so we're back!
After yesterday's 127 finds, we are taking it easy today.
We're heading to Taupo and caching on the way (of course!)
A few muggles around but no-one was watching us.
TFTC!

3720 + 122 = 3842. ACBC 66 and I visited NZ over the Easter Long Weekend on a Caching run. After completing the 101 Dalmations Power Trail and the Mangere Wastewater Trail of Power, we headed south caching along the way...
A very interesting area for a cache. Despite a few resting muggles we made the find and went on our way - Thanks Guys !!
TNLN - TFTC !!

Heading south for a weeks work, so dropped in to do a few caches on the way. Busy bit of road, but managed to grab between cars. Thanks for this one.
Realised as we approached this on the 9th Jan 2012 that we had found it last March on the way home from a wedding. Forgot to log it then so updating now ! TFTC

nice spot to view the landscape above , Something dead around here thou, didnt want be here to long.
Nobody around, but we made the hunt much harder than we should have. Best to read read all the available information more carefully first! Pleased to eventually find it and sign the log, TFTC.
didn't look as 3 car loads of gang members urinating on rock so came back sunday and couldn't find it. Guess we know where the smell comes from though
Found while visiting the area before headinh to Wellington. Many thanks for the cache. Yes - a bit smelly.
Took a little while to find.
This wasn't the nicest of places to have a cache, there was rubbish piled high nearby and there was an unpleasant smell at GZ.

Found after applying a number of interpretations to the hint - was obvious in the end. TFTC
I don't drive here very often, although this cache is one of the closest to home I hadn't found yet. Today I was driving by, so I ticked it off the list.
Found it eventually. I will probably never stop here again because despite the fact that this should be a nice little rest area it is filthy and and stinking due to people with no respect for the environment or our country. Tftc
Found it after a bit of a search, plus muggles about, watch kids as this cache is right around state hiway , and is a really busy road.
We didn't search very long. I am going to share my dismay with some of the treatment of New Zealand. We have lived here for over a year and spent a great deal of time outdoors, exploring the north island. We continue to be amazed at the amount of litter and trash that we find. I am astounded by the complete lack of respect for the beautiful outdoors that can be found in NZ. This cache was located in an interesting and striking location but we gave up our search early due to the garbage strewn all over the area. I'm not suggesting that the cache shouldn't be here, it should. It's an ideal location. I just wish my fellow Kiwis, native and imported, would take better care of this beautiful country.
Muggles nearby - almost gave up until reading the clue carefully. Cool rock. Why all the money in it?
Certainly an interesting spot for this cache. After the DNF last time, checked out the logs when we got home and quickly established the context of the clue. This time walked straight to it. A bit unnerving to have huge trucks whizzing past just a couple of metres away. Found with 10cc on the way south to do the Tongariro Crossing. TFTC!!!
Muggles just stopped when I arrived so couldn't start a big search. Couldn't really understand hint, so gave up pretty quickly.
This was my second visit to this spot, last time I was here I was with Mrs Yeetrees as we were on holiday from the BOP. Couldn't find the cache that time as there were muggles at GZ. Arrived at GZ today and it was totally muggle free, found cache quickly and signed and returned, was a bit surprised just after putting it back muggles started turning up. A very interesting spot for a cache, thanks for bringing us here, TFTC TNLNSL (2328)
