Big surprise to see a nice walk and beautiful area. Geocaching makes you discover all these things you would normally drive past. Unfortunately the Cache is no longer there.

05-Oct-13
The Cache no longer exists. Found the ruined remains in the bin. Not recoverable.

02-Sep-13
Found it, Absolutely disgusting somebody had placed a pad in it and also somebody hadn't sealed it properly it was full of water. What is wrong with people... the not sealing it properly is ok but omg the pad like wtf pull your head in whoever did this. Needs a new jar and fresh items my suggestion is do not touch the old one without gloves on!!!

Log book was sodden and black. Left a temporary log sheet in a plastic bag. Needs maintenance. Nice easy find thanks. This trip to Tasmania going anticlockwise from Devonport is our third trip and the first in our motorhome. This is another cache, there will be many more, hopefully.

We are here in Tassy, hunting down your caches. This is our first time here and the weather here is fantastic, just a tad chilly. Please keep an eye out for us and come and say hi, we won't bite. Razz

A lovely walk in the bush to a nice little spotfull of wonderful things.
Soon had cache in hand.

What a peaceful spot. Puzzled by the Egyptian references. T travel bug.

24-Jul-12
Hi Tassie Devils
This was my first visit to this site, but I don't think it will be my last. What a peaceful spot, spoilt only by two muggles and their annoying flea bags. These two muggles just would not go away and let me find the cache. Then, then; they sat right on top of the Egyptian taking photographs with the pooches; one a pug and who can like a pug - no one but their owners!
Finally, they decided to mozey on leaving me in the serenity of the surrounds and finally free to extract the cache, sign the log and replace the cache as found at 1158hrs.
"Took the right track back to the car" and continued on our way back down south.
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.

An interesting place we would not have visited except for caching. A fitting memorial. TFTC.

12-Apr-12
This is an awesome place to visit and very mysterious. Thanks heaps!

02-Apr-12
GPS was out for this one - not sure if cache has been moved from original place or GPS was just playing up. Knew where to look thanks to the clue. Took bead - left orange taxi
Smile

02-Apr-12
This was hidden in a very interesting park. Well worth visiting. SYKES must have been an interesting man back in his day. Along with Tara1617 left a small orange taxi swap.

Very peaceful spot, so serene. Thank you Mr Sykes. Quick find, TNLNSL

22-Aug-11
Such a weird place. Another find for Mrs Spreyton22 !
She was holding up the cache, while I was bumbling around with the GPS in hand - "it's nearby, I'm sure ...." Smile

11-Aug-11
Obviously Mr Sykes has levels to him that the ordinary person would find hard to understand. We can't work out whether he was a true genius or totally dislocated from reality! The monuments had us bamboozeled, and the explanations really had us lost. Maybe in another 100 years it will all become clear. It was a lovely walk, and the monuments are quite impressive to look at, even if you can't make any sense of them. TFTC

24-Apr-11

04-Mar-11
Found cache just as it started to rain, log book very wet, but still a nice walk.
Thanks.

Note pad wet, took a few minutes to find. V. Interesting.

Another spot we never knew existed, very interesting and obviously magical because we found the
black container with orange lid. The contents were wet but able to sign log TNLN TFTC

Found at 4.00pm. I parked 500 metres or so from the cache. As I was 200 metres away, the gps gave signals of going flat...so I ran the rest of the way..I got to the location and the gps shut down...I got it going for a short period, just enough time to tell me I was 17 metres away. I found the easy cache....lucky. TNLNSL. TFTC.

What an amazing man Norman Sykes must have been. I didn't understand anything that was written there!

The cache has transmogrified into a 15 x 10 cm clear plastic box - the log has an interesting entry from a maintenance worker.

TFTC. TNLN

05-Jan-11
We walked along to this one after completing Railton Junction. We figure this place has magical powers 'cause the "small round black container with orange lid" has transformed into a clear rectangular container containing an orange log book!! Oh, the mysteries of life!!! Took nothing & left a soldier. TFTC

This is a great walk in a nice area that we never knew existed. We have passed countless times and had no idea it was there. Thanks so much for the cache. This is why we keep doing this thing we all do. Its just such good fun and we all learn something as well.

loverly walk and a very nice tribute.... good on the bloke for leaving land for the greater good too.... to few like that around....

cheers 4 da cache Tassie Devils!

What a beautiful place and what a fascinating story! It was drizzling lightly, otherwise we would have stayed longer and explored more of the reserve. Mrs P actually found the cache. Sanctuary much, Tassie Devils, for bringing us to the spot. TNLNSL.

A most interesting person and history!

20-Dec-09
Used the clue here and i found it, while the daughter was taking photos - until the batteries went flat that is. Sent her back to the car for a pen, so I could sign the log. Log and contents are very wet, dried them out a bit, but still somewhat damp.
What a great spot, nice stroll in and some very interesting plaques.
TNLN, thank you for showing us this place.

01-Aug-09
The mini helper nailed this one very quickly. D found the link with the clue after putting some thought into it. A fascinating little walk in a lovely area. Thanks Tassie Devils!

01-Aug-09
Cache was located fairly easily by mini helper, but now seems to be a clear plastic container as opposed to the black screw-top we were looking for. I think the clue may refer to the inverted polyhedron located nearby.
Took bouncy ball, Left Pooh Bear Playtime Award.

05-Jul-09
An interesting area. Must find out more about the man. TFTC.

Twitties+dog.

20-Jun-09
This is an interesting spot, one I wouldn't have visited if I hadn't been looking for a container somewhere. The chap who set up the place must have been rather interesting! I didn't know what to make of the info on the objects there.

It wasn't too difficult a find once I disregarded the clue (still not sure what it refers to!) and just looked for likely spots somewhere near where my GPSr was pointing to.

A quiet place hidden away. Kids loved the hunt.

A quiet place out of the way.

very interesting

Needed the mathematical minded daughter to help me understand the marble slabs. But then the answer is always 42. TFTC

22-Apr-09
It was enough to make you realise how little of what there is in the world you actually understand. Left feeling happy we'd found the cache and humble that there were people like this guy around. Wow- what a mind he must have had. TNLN, TFTC

22-Mar-09
Our second visit to this great fauna reserve and this time we were successful in our search. i.e. we stumbled straight onto it before firing up the GPSr. Just as well as this quick find allowed the kids plenty of time to read the plaques and ask us "what does it all mean?" to which we replied "Ask your mother/father! They have better DNA". Thanks Tassie Devils for this cache that celebrates a baffling mind.

26-Feb-09
The sanctuary owner definitely sounded like an eccentric. The photos seem to indicate he cycled in gumboots to Devonport no mean feat. Thanks for showing us this unusual spot we would never have found otherwise. TN left ring. grabbed TB

27-Dec-08
A very remarkable person. Thanks to the cache I now have a better idea about the man. TNLN Thanks

22-Dec-08
But for geocaching we never would have known this place existed. The monument is really interesting and it is a lovely little reserve.
We left Magic cards as we thought that suited the mystical nature of the inscriptions!

TFTC

18-Dec-08
We actually replaced this one as a fruitless search and phone calls back to previous finders suggested very strongly the cache had walked.

As for the man - sounds like schizophrenia to me!

18-Dec-08
Interesting place to saythe least - thanks for pointingit out

Thanks for the cache - Wackys and Cached (SA)

13-Oct-08
What a lovely and interesting spot! Good thing too, as it took me ages to find the cache with the GPS a bit confused.
I will bring people back here to enjoy it's peace.

Curious monuments. An interesting place and a nice cache.

1.45pm
Found by Roma and Max.
The theme behind this cache was probably the highlight of some wonderful geo experiences we have had on the island!
This man was certainly an eccentric genius.
It took us a while to locate the container, until we widened our search a bit.
Thank you again Tassie Devils.
From Romax.

26-Sep-08
Thanks for bringing me here Tassie Devils, I really enjoyed this cache and learning about the dude carved on top of the old tree that I have seen so many times but had no idea who he was, Norman Sykes is definately a national treasure and it is great he has been remembered in this way

11-May-08
Did Sykes really eat road kill and still manage to live to a ripe old age? What mathematical theories would he have thought of if he didn't have to ride his bike to Devonport?
I can't wait to get back to this park and find the cache!
We had just finished Milos, Marshmallows and other Munchies and had a good look at all of the plaques when one of the Eyrettes decided that not only had she a call of nature but that nature was not going to answer this call.
The other junior cachers had a very quick hunt while we packed up whilst being told by the affected party to hurry thus ending a great day of caching on Mother's Day.
Thanks Tassie Devils for this cache at an eccentric sanctuary.

08-Apr-08
WinkMay Flower & Sumpcat revisited en route to Sheffield. Took leopard seal, left Bjorn (this being the main reason for visit). Everything in good order.

18-Mar-08
That was something else! Unbe-flamin'-lievable!! Mind you, I think those symbols tell you more about the person who wrote them than any underlying 'truths' they attempt to reveal. I've known a few people over the years who at times come up with similar ideas, but none have shared their 'revelations' on such an impressive scale.

It's funny reading back through the early logs after having been there. While searching for the cache, my GPSr was leading me back and forth and around in circles. This is not particularly unusual for me, but at the time I was thinking that perhaps my GPSr was being affected by a "Sykes Field" (this is an area of space/time, where normal laws of physics do not apply). I'm pleased to see now that I'm not the only one!

02-Mar-08
This was an unplanned pick up on the way past today.
I was driving and when Mr red tag said there was a cache just 300 metres away I soon reversed the car and headed to GZ.
This area was quite amazing and confusing. If we weren’t in such a hurry to our next fishing spot we would have stayed and worked out just what it was all about.

Yes, it is definitely gone. Syke's plaques that were originally lying down (under one of which the cache was hidden) on the ground were getting vandalised by 'people' who drove vehicles over them!! There is no vehicle access allowed, so this was an illegal activity presumably done by young drunk youth (just a wild guess!).

The same plagues are now positioned standing up on a frame on top of the hill, and the sanctuary has almost lost its charm because of it... Too bad, was one of my most favourite little spots. It was so unique with these plagues lying around...

27-May-07
Sanctuary is temporarily disabled due to escavation work being done in the area..Hopefully it be back soon!!!!

02-May-07
Definately my favourite cache of the day. After a few detours down the wrong roads that eventually turned into driveways I found the right road and wandered off into the reserve. This just typifies the whole 'wouldn't have known about it' part of caching that I like. I was so impressed reading the guys biography (until the park about dining on roadkill) and the maths geek in me enjoyed all the equations. Thanks Devils, that made myt day.

12-Apr-07
Never been here before, and now I've been back within the week! Couldn't resist. It's such a lovely little town - I'll take the detour again when I'm heading up the NW another time! Loved the walk to the cache and it's an interesting history and those plaquey things were intriguing. Thanks for the great cache Tassie Devils TNLNSL.

08-Apr-07
Didn't find it but didn't look. Pulled up to the starting point and a couple of lads rode over, got off their bikes, sat beside the car and started to share an illegal smoke (seemed almost intended for my viewing)! Decided it'd be a good day to do Sanctuary another day. Sorry. I am looking forward to coming back - hopefully sooner rather than later. This town has many nice features.
