Found it! Such a good view!!

30-Jul-23
TFTC! Need maintenance : container is dead, logbook as well. Looks like a rubbish now...

14-May-23
We made it as far as the lookout on the pound walk before we had to rush back to camp before it got too dark. It was great to pick up this trad along the way. The cache has seen better days and is disintegrating from the hot hot sun out here! But great to get our name in the log book. TFTC

02-May-23
We rode our bikes in from the main road and then decided to do the pound track and the ghost gum lookout. When we waded across the water at the gorge we must have chosen the wrong path as it got pretty high.
We had great views from the lookout. Took us a little while to locate this one and it definitely needs a new container and log. I just signed the page where it was open too as didn't want to risk it.
Thanks for placing this cache

No luck for us today Sad

The Pound walk was certainly worth the walk. The container could do with a bit of maintenance but I was still able to sign it. Thanks for the cache.

We decided to do the pound walk and set out early. It was a perfect day and the view from the lookout was amazing. I did not realise that Ormiston was a pound, but you could see it very clearly from up high. The cache was found after following the directions suggested in the description.

15-Apr-21
Great walk up here for the sunrise. Took us 1h with lots of pictures. The container has a brocken lid and the paper of the logbook appears as if it was quite wet during the rainy season. I didn’t had anything on me to fix it unfortunately.

09-Jul-20
Awesome to find this cache over nearly a year of the last log.
Alas didn’t read the maintenance needed before we left, as we would have brought repairs.

11-Oct-19
Needs new container and at least a new plastic zip lock bag for the log book. Nice cool breeze along this part of Pound Walk. Last 2 km through gorge was hot and gruelling. Loved the view.

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

Thanks F.A.T. (F=117 H=2) for the cache.

23-Aug-19
We certainly pounded the, well, it would have been easier if it was a pavement! But we made it to this spot with amazing views and managed to sign the log after JEmpsen found the well hidden cache. Thanks for placing the cache ironcouple.

12-Aug-19
For me with fear of heights it was a true challenge to reach the cache and I am proud that I made it. The view up there was fantastic. It is an impressive place and it was a great hike. Thank you so much for this cache.

12-Aug-19
We traveled through Northern Territory for four weeks. We started the journey in Alice Springs and drove to Uluru, Kata Tjuta and then to Kings Canyon, Rebank Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge, Ormiston Gorge and further on to the north. On the way we found some caches. This was one of them. We walked the long marked trail. It was beautiful.
Thanks for the old cache.

Great walk and fabulous views from the lookout. TFTC

12-Jul-18
Great view over the pound. Needs a new box.

09-Jul-18
A great way to end our six-day hike along the Larapinta Track with World Expeditions. The lookout here is fantastic and the quality of the track leading into and around the pound is excellent. We felt a little hurried here since we are part of a group of sixteen but the cache did finally reveal itself. As reported by previous finders the log notebook has been wet and melded into one damp lump inside the plastic bag. We placed a new log inside the box but didn't have much luck drying out the old one. We also placed a few smaller rocks on top of the stack to try to distinguish it from the many other rock stacks which are natural in this terrain. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

Some of our party of visiting Tasmanians decided to venture out on the Pound walk after our overnight stay at Ormiston. It was really worth the effort, with great views, particularly from near the cache site. Finding a cache was an added bonus, although it took us a little while searching, and the cache is badly in need of some maintenance - the lid is broken and the logbook is very soggy and starting to smell. We didn’t even attempt to open the logbook, just scratched, rather than wrote our details on the page that Was showing. We tipped the water out of the cache, but couldn’t do any more than that, sorry. TFTC

16-Aug-17
Fantastic views up here and we felt like we were on top of the world. Definitely worth walking a little bit further to get views from both sides. Thanks for the inspiration.

04-Jul-17
Today we explored Ormiston Gorge picking up a few caches on the way and this was one of them. We enjoyed the view from the lookout and made a quick find and adding to our favourites.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

I have strolled this stroll before,
many years ago Smile
Today there was a trio of geocaches to encourage me to stroll the stroll again Big Grin

If you visit Ormiston Pound,
you really do need to leave at least one day free,
to take a few walks Big Grin

Today's autumnal heat and unusual humidity,
promised a sweaty affair to reach this cache Razz
It did not disappoint !!

But the views !!
Spectacular [^]
And a nice cooling breeze !!

Cache was easily found by observing the rocks.
Those rocks showing scrape marks were obviously covering the cache Big Grin

TFTC and views and exercise and giving me an excuse to catch up with some fellow cachers along the trail Big Grin

This cache was the one of many caches along my 5 week, 5,000km trip to the Red Centre event, then out to Kings Canyon and Uluru, trekking in my Trakka! Apologies in advance for the generic logs, but there are a few!

Many thanks to all the CO's for making the journey so interesting!

13-Apr-17
Found with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!

13-Apr-17
Don't be lazy they said. Do the whole walk they said. Well, after clambering over the rocks and swimming across the gorge, we made it. What an adventure! As for the cache, it took us a little while, but not as long as the walk took! Found with Jess and Caro. TFTC Smile

13-Apr-17

Being on holidays in Australia we decided to look for some caches during our road trip across outback (Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon, McDonnell’s, Alice Springs) Smile We were searching for this one for ages as there were so many stones. Finally we found it under heavy and really hot stones. It was sooo hot today but we really enjoyed it. Wonderful place, we really admired the MacDonnell’s Ranges. Greetings from Czech Republic. TFTC!

One of us did the walk, one waited back at base. Glad the cache was here as it took me along the ridge to see where I had come from.

Bit of a story to this one! As the others were feeling sluggish, I decided to do the walk to the cache from the gorge by myself. I had previously seen a sign informing me that the lookout was 30min one way, but to do the whole loop was 1.5hours. Piece of cake for me, surely I can do a bit of a jog and be back at the car in an hour; not so. Followed the gorge up with a constant abundance of "gorgeous" sights. Met a few people on their return, little did I know I had only just started the walk! Eventually out of the gorge and into the pound where the sun came out and just radiated the pound. looking back towards the gorge and the sun finally showed the true intensity of the reds in the rock. Definitely one of my most favorite jogs I have done. Becoming a little worried that I was on part of the Larapinta Trail next stop Ellery Creek Big Hole, I consulted the GPS. Hmm, 30mins later and I still had no better idea of how to use my mates touch screen GPS. At the moment all I wanted was my 2004 yellow brick GPS; after all, I didn't want to go home with a DNF. But the distance was somehow decreasing, so maybe I am going the right way! Soon I began to climb and was gobsmacked by a phenomenal view. As there was no one about for miles, and there was not a sound in the air, I decided to get right down to the gear that the locals around here would have gone for a swim in down the gorge, and let out a roaring COOOEEEEE!!!!! Signing duties and panorama's aside, I must have sat up there for 30min just soaking it all in. Realising that darkness was just around the corner I ran back to the car. Just back near the car I saw the sign for the walk I had done: "Leave 3-4 hours". I had ran it in 2! Definitely my favorite cache of the trip and is held high enough in my books to make it onto my pool room list. TFTC!!!!!!

TFTC. Great views, and fantastic location for a cache. Visited with Team Riddell.
Did this walk on our rest day at Ormiston Gorge after 8 days of hard walking along the north side of the Chewings Range exploring the canyons.

Visited this Cache together with Apfelsine during our Holidays in Australia during our Ormiston Gorge Pound Walk. Very nice views from up here.

Thanks for the cache. It is nice spot.

Found it when touring the West MacDonnell's. What a fantastic walk, thouroughly enjoyed it. The wet crossing at the end was nice and refreshing after the warm walk. TFTC!

01-Jul-14
This was my top walk in the area because I love rocks and geology and Ormiston has a lifetime of both. We had a look around the gorge first and then headed off on this walk. Climbed up to the lookout for morning tea and as I sat there, I checked the gps to see how far we'd come. Oh! A cache right near me!!! So I quickly scrambled around and found it before heading offo on the rest of the walk. Rather chilly swimming the river towards the end though.Surprised

31-May-14
Another wonderful walk in Central Australia. Thank you for placing this cache to make sure we did this walk. We had to walk through water at the end, chest deep and very very cold. Well worth the trek.

24-May-14
TFTC and thank you for the great location. Caches like this make it a worthwhile activity. We found this while walking the Larapinta trail.

07-May-14
The Pound walk at Ormiston Gorge has to be one of the best walks in the NT. The landscape is spectacular and we were amazed as the Pound view came into sight as we walked up the lookout trail toward the cache. Absolutely spectacular! Big Grin

The cache was found nice and dry without too much difficulty. We really enjoyed the rest of the walk especially carrying our backpacks over our heads as we waded across the river (a welcome relief) and then up to the lookout before getting back to the car park.

A fav from us. Cool

20-Apr-14
Got to Ormiston a bit later than we wanted and as a result found this as the sub was going down. Still got some amazing views at the lookout but had to trek it back by torchlight! Tftc

21-Nov-13
AM and I are on an epic Outback journey, enjoying the amazing geology and landscapes, and of course, visiting caches along the way. TFTC, nice one! The Pound walk was one of my favorite walks in the NT. Such gorgeous colors of rocks - purples, reds, oranges, and that with the green of the trees....stunning! Gets a fave point from me!

21-Nov-13
Wow, the view at this GZ is absolutely amazing. We found yesterday with CJ after visiting Alice and all the other amazing Northern Territory hot spots in the 500km area. We reached Ormiston Gorge and decided to do this walk after overnighting in the camp site.

We'd been focusing on doing higher DT caches along our travels in the Northern Territory, but today we were just taking in the caches along our way north. This one was right nearby and had been donloaded onto our GPSr. We've been wanting to get out to th McDonell Ranges to do these local caches. The caches are all so dry in the NT! We had some time to focus on a few nearby as our car was being repaired. The coords and the hint were excellent and the cache was quickly found. It is in good nick.

Anyway, it was another great day to chase down our second Northern Territory cache. Thanks F.A.T. for your cache. We really enjoyed it and this one gets a fav point. SL TNLN TFTC

06-Oct-13

Nice walk around Ormiston Pound with wildflower out in full bloom. We've had a bit of rain over winter, so there was plenty of water around. This is one walk I never get tired of doing. TFTC

We did the Pound Walk and celebrated with a swim at the end. Beautifully cool water and a favourite. TFTC.

21-Aug-12
found on day 8 of the Larapinta Trail

Found this on the 16th August whilst doing the Ormiston Pound Walk. What beautiful views into the Pound. Better by far than the views into Wilpena Pound from the Wilpena Pound Lookout near Rawnsley Bluff.
Funny thing, I retrieved a Taurus Anja TZ (Travelling Zodiac) tracking number zckkjr, from the cache. On further investigation I see that "tateneedham" placed it in the cache, then apparently grabbed it again, but forgot to take it (all on 30/06/12).

I will move it on.
Cache is in good condition. TFTC

Great view, great cache!

01-Jun-12
Would have loved to complete this walk, but high water levels, a bad knee and a rolled ankle all conspired to prevent it. Next time. Tftc

01-Jun-12
Found on the Anja & Setsujoku honeymoon tour!

After getting married on the 19th May it was time to head off for some rest and relaxation, or rather camping and lots of walking!

Find 41 of 74 on our tour of the Red centre outback.

Didn't complete the whole loop as wanted as there are parts you currently have to swim, but we made the walk to the cach and then headed back to camp. Some great views of the pound near GZ though. A lot like the Flinders.

Thanks to F.A.T. for the cache and another chance to see the outback.

30-May-12
With the wind howling around the tops as we searched, finding the cache was imperative to get into the more sheltered part of the Pound. Loved the walk and the locale.

26-Mar-12
Found the cache fairly quickly but the walk was something different.
At the beginning we saw signs saying, we will have to wade trough water towards the end of the cirquit. We reached this part of the gorge after 2,5 h. However we found ourselfes swimming for a fair distance and still couldn't reach the carpark. It was swimming, not wading. As we had cameras and everything with us, we decided to rather go back all the way. We made our way back in 1:40h speed hiking with little water and finished just before 5 in the afternoon.
Nevertheless it was fun, but make sure you know how the conditions are really, before you start.
