Visited nearby magnificent building then this great structure, Canberra is impressive with its buildings.Impressive cache thanks Tankengine
We needed to visit a nearby institution this morning and went for a wander hoping to find this. Is it here or is it there? It's here. A clever hide for a few reasons so gets a fave. Thanks Tankengine.
Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. Our time in Canberra is drawing to a close. today we headed in on the light rail with the geobikes to try and complete the bridges loop around Lake Burley Griffin. Wow awesome weather , chilly at the start but hot in the afternoon. Markets on so lots of muggles to add to the DT rating. Fantastic day, Mr F jumped on a boat to the Captain Cook Fountain. Plenty of memories and photos' from today.TFTC Tankengine
Day 7 of mogni and sir_spectre visit the ACT. Today we tackled the many, many city caches. We parked at Parliament House and started walking and walking and walking. It was another beautiful day and lots of people out and about enjoying it.We really only stopped so we could attend a local event and saw few a familiar faces. As per normal if a cache needed a bit of love, it got it. Thanks to Tankengine from mogni
Today was all about Capital Hill and the area to the lake. About 10 km walked today ( at least ). Adventure labs, virtuals, earthcaches, multis, wherigo and trads plus the odd puzzle were targeted on the walk. some we just didn't have the time for. We walked for over 8 hours. Some interesting history was sighted along the way. quick find.Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favourite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and eevry different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.
1 April 2024 09:39 TFTC Tankengine for placing this cache, number 14027 for me. Signed as TINZ. Hint to open the cache, twist, don't pull. Wayward Waterloo2.5/1.5 Small Mystery Cache Thank you for the cache Tankengine.1 April 2024 11:35am
Took a bit of a search, but I spotted it. I found your D2.5/T1.5 Small Mystery called Wayward Waterloo on 31 March 2024. It was find #19121 for me. Thank you Tankengine for placing this cache for our enjoyment in the wonderful state of Australian Capital Territory.
We heard about a Mega in Canberra a year ago. Having never been to the big capital, we booked our accommodation and the planning began.Which caches shall we do? Wow they really love their mystery caches in ACT! Ok, we need to get our thinking caps on and solve some of these puzzles pronto. We have made the trek from Adelaide to be here and appreciate the efforts of all those involved to make the Capital Geobash happen. We have hired bikes to ride around the lake today.
Part of the Sandgroper contingent that has come to the Mega to explore new hunting grounds. Its sure to be a great week with many finds and laughs with lots of great friends and maybe some new ones along the way. Thank you for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Logged as WA.
Something special or unusual goes here:This took some searching and I am embarrassed to say I looked at where the cache was found first and didn't see it. Anymules then spotted it and guided Muff where to feel it out. I just stood in the corner with a dunce hat until it was time to stamp the log. FP for this hide [:X]The Generic Bit:The Capital Geobash Adventure 2024. Day 9: Adventure Labs Day Yet again today myself, Anymules and Muff1 set out to try and find a few more caches. We concentrated on doing as many Adventure Lab caches as we could and then some virtual caches . We also managed a few other caches whilst passing so close. ***Thanks Tankengine for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
Out and about again, headed around Canberra for the MEGA. Super excited my first MEGA and heading over with 2 others from the Cockburn Crew - signed log as WA to save time. This is 14875, hoping to clock over the 15,000 finds in the week in New South Wales and ACT.Thanks to Tankengine for the caches we found.********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********Head over to Australian Capital Territory for Capital GeoBash MEGA - Canberras first ever Mega Event. Easter 2024 (GC9PNFB): - 5 day event at Canberra Park adjacent to EPIC (Canberra Showgrounds) on the Federal Highway, only 6km from the centre of the city. The mascot for the Mega is Gangles the endemic Gang Gang Cockatoo, a bird you may see or hear while in Canberra. The official website - geobash.ozmega.com.auACT has over 4700 active caches, power trails, and over 100 Lab Adventures. Heaps of challenge caches, hikes for geocaches for all levels of skills and fitness.
Another fantastic day here in Canberra, the locals have certainly turned the wonderful weather for the event, maybe they had a chat with the Lord Above. We did not find many caches today but they certainly are quality caches. We signed a couple of challenge caches that we do not qualify for but found many others that we do qualify for and signed. So many caches and we will never get anywhere near solving or finding a small percentage of them. SL TFTC
Geobash Easter Mega - Day #4 (Easter Sunday 31/3)Day four saw me having a chill out day. I decided on going finding quality hides instead of quantity. The day started with the event GCAMJ0W but given I arrived early, I did the nearby tree climb. I also joined the flag parade up Mt Ainslie. I found a couple of historic hides as well as some higher terrain caches. I really enjoyed a day of taking it slow and not rushing around everywhere. I also avenged some previously DNFed caches which one of them I now understand why it took me so attempts to find it. I also found a few labs and once I got back to the motel it was time to get ready for my big power trail day tomorrow. TB visit. If the cache wasnt signed as JohnoMawbs, it was signed as JM or as the tour group name. A big thanks to the CO for adding this cache to game for the Geocaching community to enjoy. TFTEs & TFTCs My last find of the day. I had solved this one a while ago. I have also been to GZ a while ago but unfortunately always left with a . Today however, I was able to leave with a . When I arrived at GZ, I knew what I was looking for and it didn't take long to have the CIH. Signing duties were completed and now off to get dinner. Thanks for another historic cache.
Found 31 Mar 2024 at 5:26:03pmOut and about on a cycling tour of part of Lake Burley Griffen with Team_Crumble in a beautiful sunny day. We cycled about 20km today, picking up a few caches as we went. Many thanks to Tankengine for placing Wayward Waterloo for us all to find
The Cockburn Crew are on tour at the Capital Geobash in Canberra - travelling from Perth to Sydney, Canberra, Sydney and finally back to Perth.Today was day 3 and we had an absolute blast, after an earlier night last night we got up early to head to Yass and the surrounding areas to cleanup a bunch of caches inparticular whereigos and our personal favourite the challenge caches. We stopped in Yass and completed some high quality caches before venturing back to the trails. We completed a huge number of trails, challenges, whereigos, traditional, multis, earthcaches, labs, virtuals and puzzles. It really was a great day for variety. We enjoyed caching in territory we havent been before. Weve filled our boots with some rare DTs and DTTs and generally had a great time. Thanks to the COs for a great day and event. Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. We have commenced our raid on Yass. All logs have been signed as WA to save space, abbreviation for our team of cachers from Western Australia, who are cleaning up the series together. Cheers Tankengine! Join us in Augusta, in Western Australias South West, for WA Goes Big 2024 (GCAGV8Y) on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Log your will attend now!
After finishing up the mega event festivities I C Nothing and I were still up for a spot of caching so talked Lachlan1.77, Leg5 & Barnzy12 into joining us and we made our way back into the city in an attempt to get as many central caches as we could before the end of the weekend and a return to normal life beckons. On a quiet night in Canberra we combined between walking and driving to caches and by the time we returned to our accommodation had managed to collect a tidy sum of 21 finds and starting to rest before an early morning event to kick off Monday. Thanks Tankengine for placing Wayward Waterloo for me and others to find.I added my name to the log on 31/3/2024.This is find number 8757 for me.

I was very excited that I was able to solve this puzzle on my own in the comfort of my lounge chair before heading to Canberra for the Mega. It was exciting to be there when we found the cache. Thankyou for bringing me to this cache so I could complete my cache solving journey. Thanks Thomas Tankengine.
Day 5 of our Capital Geobash mega-holiday, and first up for us this morning was to join the tour of Lake Burley Griffin, led by our wonderful guide Tankengine. After completing my tour with Toy Hunters and a group of great cachers, I met up with my new friend, TrinityNZ. We met at the event I held in Wellington a couple of weeks ago. She had some solved puzzles she wanted to snag and we both love virtuals, so we had a decent plan.I had no hand in the solve but am happy to have been a part of the find. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!The day:Today was day 2 of my time in Canberra for the GeoBash Mega from the U.S. and getting to spend time with my friends. Hooray! This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Well that was an unexpected location. I always thought those steps seemed a bit pointless. But of course they are there for easy cache access.......Thanks for showing me another unexpected Canberra location TS. A fav point for sure.BTW love that cache design.
Found it on my fourth or fifth visit to what I know to be GZ (wasnt sure before as I hadnt found the hide). Really good to tick this one off at last. A unique puzzle and a great container. Couldnt actually get it to open, but have taken a photo as proof of our visit. Will supply if requested. Had a thorough rummage around before the sun came up this morning (around 5:50 am, before running group nearby), with no luck.
Checked that I was on the right track with a previous finder, and got some pointers, that make me think the cache could be missing.
Would appreciate a CO check on this one. Will be back sooner rather than later for another look.
Thanks anyway TE for highlighting a splendid historical spot

#22435. A great cache to start the caching day with. GZ was nicely tucked away and suprisingly quiet given it was close to a busy area. Troodles soon spotted the nicely hidden cache (nice container too). TFTC.
An interesting puzzle which was a quick solve in preparation for our trip to Canberra. It didn't take long to find the cache. Nicely tucked away
I wonder how many locals have passed by without realising these relics are here? TFTC.

Ran the calculations before heading out, and checked both spots whilst in the area. Realised that only one was really viable, but after a thorough search didn’t come up with the goods.
Hopefully it is still there and we were just blind to it’s presence, but a maintenance run may still be in order. Thanks anyway for the fun and unique conundrum TE

After sweet talking my way out of what I had on this morning, I headed to Canberra for a day trip. An event plus a few finds around the centre of Canberra. Unfortunately, I did also have DNF. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the caching community enjoyment. TFTE & TFTC’s!
After the event Sebass19 and I headed off to find some nearby caches. This was one we attempted but unfortunately after a two long of a search we came up empty handed. Even getting a hint from a past finder wasn't enough to make the find. We tried contacting the CO but unfortunately didn't respond until later that night. We left without a find this time.

#1883 A little online investigation last night left me with a couple of potential hiding spots. Came out this morning to beat the majority of the crowds and initially came up with a long discarded nang. Clearly this area misses out on a regular taxpayer cleaning service. Had to go for a bit of a walk to reach my second possibility and this time came up with the find. What a wonderful piece of history to have here. One that until now I knew nothing about. Thanks Tankengine for highlighting this area.
First find in (in what I would presume is a high traffic area) months!
Had a DNF the other day - didn’t do a good search as the ‘spot’ I was searching was filthy. My geogirlfriend didn’t want to stick around (she didn’t want me to look) due to the condition of the area.
Sadly, walked away with this mystery empty handed assuming I wouldn’t get it this trip.
Last night, I planned out a route for cache hunting today, when I noticed that there was another potential position this cache could be hidden in, and I got excited!
Swung by today and managed to grab the cache after a quick couple of checks in some possible positions.
Great to get this 15 year old cache in the bag.
Tftc,
JFS.

I had worked out the likely spots for this cache some time ago, so today it was a matter of testing my theory on a lovely walk near the lake with what seems to have been most of Canberra.
As is the way of these things, it wasn't in the first but rather in the second spot we checked, but that's fine - I'm just glad my idea was validated!
Cache and log are in very good condition.
Thanks, Tankengine. I love these little historical snippets!

Have tried to find this cache a number of times but never could. However then the CO said he replaced it so I made the find. Sorry I forgot to log until now. TFTC TE!!
Today I wanted a multi and a mystery for my calendars so I set out early and after a quick find at the multi continued on here hoping for another quick find. Ha ha ha!
I made the most basic mistake that a newbie would be embarrassed to admit to. After not being able to find it I contacte4d a couple of friends including the CO who gave me permission to log it thinking that it had been taken again. However he checked it on his way home and guess what?!?! it was still there. He kindly let me know this and I set out again knowing what I had done wrong.
This time it was a very quick find and the log was soon signed and cache returned to its hidey holes. Thanks for this fascinating cache Tankengine. I would never have known about this bit of history without the cache.

After working from home for the day, I decided to scoot into Friday drinks instead of catching the bus so that I could enjoy some sunlight. I had solved this puzzle about a year ago, while stuck in Melbourne Lockdown 2.0. To think they are now in lock down 6, poor state is really coping it. I solved many Canberra puzzles during that period, between applying for jobs in Canberra. The cache was in a great spot, very well mad. Not what I was expecting given some of the other features here. Thanks for the cache Tankengine, and for highlighting the interesting pieces of bridge history!
Not totally a park'n'grab cache, but after a miscalculation a few days ago and going back to the drawing board, I had a good idea where to look this time. The time - 8:30 pm - and the rain made this a muggle free experience. I still got a wet foot on the way there but the lights made for some interesting shadows.
When I found the stone blocks the other day I was a bit disappointed that they are not actually build into the foundations of the bridge. Nontheless impressive. An interesting link to London for me as I lived there for a few years.

Made plans with Bonfire7 & Muppet95 for a day in Canberra to cherry pick a few caches with interesting DT combos, types, dates, or other attributes. We got off to an early start, the weather was superb, and the caches were great. Thanks to all the COs for making Canberra (and around) a good place to come back to time and again.
Out caching with muppet95 and 154crows,today muppet was aiming towards a milestone so armed with TOTT's we planned on spending the day searching for speciality and higher D/T rated caches.
As always it was a top day out caching in and around the ACT with the company of good friends,we found some really cool hides thoughout the day whilst muppet reached his milestone so that was great to be a part off!
Looking forward to our next trip!
GZ was a nice location to visit before wrapping up our day
Thanks Tankengine for the cache

Planned a trip to Canberra to coincide with my 6000th find milestone. I teamed up with geobuddies, Bonfire7 and 154Crows, for the day outdoors! We targeted cache types as well as D/T ratings (particularly high T-rated caches requiring a TOTT). Thanks to all the Cache Owners for their contributions to this recreational activity!
We found the container with no logbook. TFTC

My brain is not wired for puzzles, so coming across a puzzle I can do is an opportunity that I can't pass up!
My suspicions on cache location were confirmed with a little research and at GZ a quick find was made before returning to the geo-ute to warm up!
After a full day outdoors in this horrible wind I was almost in Yass before I had thawed out.

#56: I had no idea these stones existed. Thanks again to TE for identifying Canberra's not very obvious historical treasures and helping us to find them.
I’d concluded my recent DNF must’ve been cache blindness so rode over for a late lunch today. After revisiting several spots there it was. How did I miss that ? A great little puzzle and interesting spot. Tftc.
Well I did enjoy the little test to bring me to what I’d hoped was GZ. Two stones tick, piece of history tick. Try as a I might all I could find was broken glass and a bottle with a syringe in it. Yuck. I’ll keep an eye on this and return one day. It’s a nice lunchtime run over the bridge. Tftc.
Found during a day of caching that started with a walk around the Canberra City centre, along the foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin, across the Commonwealth Avenue bridge, spending most of the day in the Parliamentary Triangle before heading back across Kings Bridge and down to the Airport. Thanks for the interesting puzzle and cache Tankengine!
Canberra Day 3: Lake Burley Griffin West Loop
Headed out today for another bike ride to find yet more caches in Canberra. The target was the far out AL waypoints and all the little Parks along the way. The ride went swimmingly with a lot of lovely vistas and views of the lake along the way, though slowly but surely, the midday heat started taking its toll. Huffed and puffed up to the National Arboretum visitor centre for lunch, and headed back down to finish off the rest of the circuit. It has been one tiring day, but generally very productive throughout.
This is the specific log for this cache:
First cache of the morning was this one. An intriguing bit of history here, makes me wonder where else in the world have these wayward rocks made their way too. I know CO’s being cheeky by putting the coordinates in the middle of the bridge but luckily I had my tools on hand to sort this one out. Easy find once at GZ, TFTC!

That was our third consecutive November trip to Australia. We could "tick off" the last two missing states and territories and see both Sydney and Melbourne again, and the red heart of Australia and the capital Canberra. This was a great week and I would have loved to take the unexpected and sometimes very exhausting heat with me to cold Germany. This cache contributed to this great experience. Many thanks for that!
What a great location for GZ. The weather is superb and the cache is hidden well.

Raced out with Kittykatch at lunchtime for a quick cache. Great to be out and about and walking in the sunshine. What a great spot. I thought it was going to be cold but the sun proved stronger and the breeze made walking very pleasant. Love LBG.
Found today with Joolay on a linch time cache run. Lots of fun and great to get out of the office for a walk. Cache in good condition. TFTC Tankengine
Tried to find this one a few years ago and quickly realised I was on the wrong side... Very rewarding to make a triumphant return today!! TFTC.
An event earlier in the day brought me to the lake. While doing a meander, I found this one. Another history lesson that I only know thanks to gc. TFTC te.
What a beautiful day for a wander around the lake! I’m not really sure about the placement of these stones and whether it quite matches the intention of the “gift”, but somewhat interesting nonetheless.
Initial cache search had me put my hand directly on broken glass, so I resorted to my eyes instead which did the trick rather quickly!

Found during my adventures at the Clear Waters mega. Thank you for all the caches!
We had a guided tour through the western part of Lake Burley Griffin. TFTWalk!
Years ago I looked at this as something I could do when onsite and today was finally here!

Day 6 of trip to Queanbeyan/Canberra for the Clear Waters Mega Event, travelling with RLD4963.
Today we had hired some bikes to go for a ride around Lake Burley Griffin. We picked them up on a clear sunny morning and headed off. We decided to see if we could find this cache, so hopped off the bikes and soon had the cache in hand.
Thanks for bringing us to this interesting bit of history tankengine.

Day 3 of our Clear Waters event and Queanbeyan/ACT adventures and again we had cracking weather, perfect for caching. A walk/tour around Lake Burley Griffin took us to many highlights which we followed up with some more random wandering around Canberra. Log signed as TET2.
Loved the idea of this cache. It’s certainly a unique fact that you’d never know about had it not been for the cache that brought us here. Thanks Tankengine for placing and maintaining this cache.
