Out on a caching expedition with my 6 year old nephew. A very hot spot at WP1 today. Well worth the visit for the views and the history. Information easily gathered and final coords calculated. A sweltering walk to GZ, followed by a fruitless search. Checked the logs and found we were in good company so gave up. Watched a stingray swim past. A welcome breeze sprung up on our way back to car.
Had a good search for this one today, no luck. search all the places noted by people with nothing. just lots of rubbish and a dead bird :S
Spent a while looking for this thengave up once I checked previous logs. It was a great day in the bay today though.
Grrrrr. Spent far too long in the hot sun looking for this one, though it was fun scrambling around the rocks on such a lovely day. Nice to see boats coming and going. Chatted to a muggle who said she had seen a container further down the groyne. (she thought we were looking for penguins so we explained about geocaching). Looked in the two places mentioned in the logs, plus where our coordinates took us with no luck. Went and had a cuppa.
[Took quite a while to find the final as it was quite a long way from where the coords and the hint placed it. The cache was found fairly exposed ]within 1.5m of the no. 24 peg.[A fun multi with great locations and an interesting history lesson. TFTC 12 of 15.]
First attempt the day before went wrong when I applied strict mathematical conventions with respect to solving numbers in brackets and then mulitplying adjoining brackets. Then after dark I had another idea and cycled to the cache easrly the next morning. Thanks for the detour and the history lesson.
A lovely multi, thanks. Found cache under rocks on left of path about 4 m back from light, quite visible. Left it where we found it but with rock on top to make it slightly less likely to be mugged. However, hint probably no longer quite accurate. TNLNSL TFTC
Another Golden Farewell cache, another repeat visit, this time with a find logged... That's 2 out of 5! Always a great spot. Had to creep up on some muggles stationed out at the end staring out to see. Think I got within 3m of them without them spotting me. TFTC
A nice little Multi and we found unless you want a long swim to read the sign fully! Quick correction and all was well and we were off to GZ. A bit slower at GZ due to a couple of fisherman at the end, one of them being within 2 m of cache but with nice work from Niteowlnz she had recovered cache and returned it without them even knowing what was going on. TFTC
What a neat monument and what a great view on a lovely day like today !! finally worked out correct co-ords ( Stretch0 wasn't keen to swim out to our first caclculation) soon spotted our mistake completed the loop walk then high tailed to the final only to follow out 2 fisherpeople that set up within meters of the cache when I spotted it had a quick oppourtunity to grab cache signed log dropped in a TB then waited till they cast again and popped it back into place !!! thanks for the cache
Loved the view from the first waypoint, and a good bit of history too. Calculated the final co-ords - looked a very likely spot. Found at sunset at an interesting location. Remembered to collect the vital number for the Golden Farewell cache. Thanks!

An appropriate place to visit for the local history. Numbers collected and location plotted on the map - must be right! Enjoyed both locations, particularly as the sun was now shining. SL. TFTC.
A great monument and very nice to visit. Quite an amazing voyage without the navigational aids we know of today - such as a GPSr of course
Navigated my way to the final successfully.

1500hrs Make sure you look at the right light. 'Green' horns may get it wrong. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
Nice cache, found the information interesting. Had coffee's & hot chocolates on espresso ship while working out & entering new co-ordinates. Nice place for final cache, best to do this one on a calm & fine day. TFTF
A neat multi which KM laid her hands on at 1426. We ejoyed the monument, which we were driving past... then I realised that I had a cache loaded up in the Oregon with questions about Abel Tasman.. hmm could this be the starting point? Screeched off the road.. woohoo only 59m away!
Enjoyed learning more about Tasman, and then laying our hands on the goodies despite the auto-route wanting us to drive THROUGH the sea!

4288 Great spot for both the waypoint and final, took some photos before heading off. TFTC.
Thanks, a fun multi-cache. Went on the wrong fork yesterday, and there were too many muggles, so returned today for a quick find.
Wow! What a neat view from the monument. Had to smile at all the school children learning to sail their Optimus yachts with flat glassy sea below. Mind you, in my primary school days I was never given the opportunity to have fun like that in school hours. I'm very jealous. Was first to sign the new logbook. TNLN T4TC.
Great views from initial spot but no sign of cache at calculated co-ords. A shame because now we can't complete Golden Farewell.
DNF our first one for this trip (knew our run had to stop somewhere) – This was supposed to be our last cache for the day. Arrived near GZ parked the car and a short walk in the lovely evening we arrived at GZ. Uhmm, wonder where this one can be. On well time for the search (but gave Mrs Yeetrees all my valuables first – last time I did this sort of cache my cell phone ended up swimming with the fishes) After a long and vigorous search at GZ we came up empty handed. We think that the cache is gone for a swim or got muggled. BUGGER - we also had a previous finder - boxhill with us and he said that it was under a certain spot whenn he found it.
Our last cache for the evening, but we came away empty handed in spite of 4 pairs of eyes scouring the area. No number collected at this one...
Perhaps time for a maintenance check?

Ok so we are a bit late in logging this. Found the first spot OK on March 8th but we went back the following day and had no luck finding part two. I see now that we weren't the only ones, but that the cahe has now been replaced. Will have to have another go next time we're up that way. Cheers!
Got so cross with ourselves over this one.
Got all the first part right.
Understood all the hints.
Found everything else but the cache!
A perfect early morning to be out there looking for it too.
Grr!

Unfortunately a no find for us. GPS was playing up, but i'm certain we were looking in the right place! Last visitor looks like it was a no-find for them also??
Either something went wrong with our number crunching, or with our hint following as we had no luck here. Couldn't complete the Farewell either without this one sadly. But it will be no hardship if we have to revisit this area!!!
Didnt find it after kids and husband looking around in the pouring rain....sad because we couldnt complete the farewell
Now WP1 I had visited before and thought what a great place for a cache, that was before I looked this one up. Fifth and final of the clues tracked down and located! Plenty of fisher folk around GZ but none too close. Had a good look before locating the cache but no problems there and all is well. And now for the Farewell itself ! TFTC, Biggles.
Another great Cach in Golden Bay! A good sunset cache on both, the beginning and the final!!!
A very enjoyable an informative multi. Mr Three D shipped into Tarakohe (with the Anchor Shipping Company) many times during the 1960's to unload coal for the Cement Works. Massive changes since those days! TFTC
Having worked out the final co-ordinates some time in advance, I walked out to the cache site one fine afternoon, stopping off at the memorial on the way. But when I got to the final site, I was confounded by a fishermen and his family sitting right on top of the cache. I waited a short while, but soon realised that they weren't going to leave any time soon, so I left. I returned later, but from a distance, they appeared to still be there. It was not until the following morning (and thus after the end of the Labour weekend) that I was able to get to the cache site, and quickly sign the log before the elderly dog-walking couple got too close. Thanks for the cache - a fascinating spot, in different ways.
Loved this multi. An interesting spot that I had never visited. Many thanks! Oh, and I enjoyed meeting you at 'Dolmen' yesterday, BuzzTasman!
A quick cache with Cakemonster on a beautiful calm morning. We stopped to watch some boats launch nearby. TFTC.
24/10/09: A short walk to the monument from our base in Ligar Bay. A great viewpoint and some interesting history - many thanks. After decoding the final coordinates I walked to the final, which was easily found after using the clue and orientating myself - not being an antipodean, it takes some effort to remember that the sun is in the North! Dropped off Pirate Booty coin in a very suitable location.
A great history lesson at another spot that we've always planned to stop at but never have .... a quick find for the sharp eyed Miss Beanso(8yrs) at the final GZ, next time we'll bring the rods .. TFTC
A delightful find as part of a bike ride from Tata Beach to Pohara. Had never been out to that particular promontory before. Introduced geocaching to some friends.
Really enjoyed finding this one. Took monkey on monocycle and left an alien...Thanks.
we really enjoyed this one. We parked up o/n at the boat club, so went walking as the sun rose after a stormy night, which included heaps of calling by penquin. We then carried on walking to the cache, then breaky in the sun. Thanks
Beautiful spot, water in bay below so clear, saw sting ray swimming about, decided to join it and went kayaking from the beach before going on to final cache site several hours later!

Staying nearby at the Pohara boat club so decided to walk to the cache. Solved puzzle and located the cache without difficulty. Were treated to the sight of three Orca swimming inside the harbour. One came within metre of where we were standing on the sea wall. A very special experience and as usual I didn't bring the dam camera.

Really appreciated both the history and the stunning view. Excellent cache all round - thanks.
Great hunt, loved the clues and the history. Great views of lovely Golden Bay. Lots of muggles close to final location made it all the more fun!!
Found this on a amazing evening, no wind, no clouds, just fantastic warm light and great views
An esy find this morning. Lovely views. Saw 2 dolphins in the harbour as we walked up to GZ. Beautiful day!

Another favourite! A lovely multicache. Found cache under rocks on left of path about 4 m back from light with a rock on tip. Added some extra camouflage too. TNLNSL TFTC
Stunning views on both stages! Perfect weather today! One of the caches we enjoyed most in NZ! Thanks a lot!
Had some fun pinpointing GZ after several wrong turns managed to get on right track TFTC
A quick dash to the waypoint before a swim at the next beach, then off to the final. Lots of muggles around but not too near to prevent success! TFTC
Took two attempts to get this. First time around was foiled by a group of fisher-persons lurking right on top of GZ. Could potentially have snuck up from underneath but if sprung would have had a LOT of explaining to do Came back a couple of days later and was dismayed to see a large family of English tourists tracking in the same direction. Fortunately they were preoccupied with something in the water off in one direction while I conducted my devious affairs behind their backs in the other. Retrieved the geocoin and retreated to the car... and then had to go back and do the whole thing all over again to get the number for Golden Farewell Excellent fun, thanks BT.
Found while holidaying at Tukurua. What a great cache ! WP was very interesting, but had great fun finding the Cache !
Pin-pointed the general area, and got within 200 metres of the cache 3 times, but kept running out of solid ground !
Drove back to second parking area and it was a case of fourth time lucky !
Had to wait 5 minutes for muggles to leave, then daughter Sarah grabbed the Cache.

Neat cache - really enjoyed it - blustery day with rain on the way - glad to complete this before we got wet. +TB Seemed like a good spot for a whale to reside.
Out to sea we went and found the cache! This was yet another cracker of a multi. Thanks ever so much. Oh, just to be padantic, Abel Tasman does not have a 2nd name, that is a patrianomic. +TB.
Totally didn't get this, worked tha co ordinates out several times but it kept sending us out to sea?!?
Did the first half before tea and then had an evening walk to finish it off after tea. Brought two prospective Cachers with us.
Thanks
Thanks
A particularly appropriate cache for Mr B as he was born in the Netherlands Enjoyed reading about Mr Tasman - have to admit to looking for the cache in the wrong place initially - those "age" clues can be confusing, but got there in the end. Mr B & Jnr B retrieved the cache while Baby B had his evening meal.

[a nice little cache and i got some quit interesting info about abel tasman] you seem to have a thing hiding them under rocks
The last cache in the Golden Farewell series, but have decided to buy 'Elementary Arithmatic for Idiots' as soon as I get home. After reading Abel's info carefully, I still managed to enter one wrong digit and GPS indicated the final cache site to be 3.4 km into Golden Bay. Back to the drawing table after a cup of enhancing caffeine. Finally found cache after having driven past the area about 5 times. But Abel did the same.
Thanks for the fantastic series! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Now have to find last one though.

What a day - gale force winds and driving rain!! We had to wait for the weather and do this in stages. You'll know what we mean when you come to do it. Great cache, took TB Wandering Mickey and we'll drop him off somewhere in the North Island in the next week or so. TFTC
Great to learn some history, at a beautiful spot. Left Travel Bug (Micky) and uplifted Travel Bug (racing car) to help on its travels. TFTC
Took us quite some time to get there - because our wee one was interested, too. Calculating was easy enough to get to the destination. Left TB Racing Car. Thx.
Great spot. Thought we do some history lessons with the kids. Final cache was back where we were parked up for a couple of days. So extra bonus TFTC
Very busy at both wp's today, but we managed the find safely. Some good fossil shells around the final wp, made an interesting diversion.
