Was in the area today for a different reason and thought I would check out the spot where the wingaap story all got underway. Cache isn't there for those wondering, but perhaps a shrine should be raised instead? A memorial perhaps? (although he is not dead, so perhaps memorial is the wrong termWink) The recent milestone of 20,000 finds on wingaap caches Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin is simply fantastic and should be celebrated by all who love the game, or even just dabble occasionally. Having found just 65 out of I think 200 placed wingaap caches I have a ways to go still, more marvels await me. woohoo!!! So, to wingaap the master, TFTCs.

19-Feb-12
this was one of my favorite caches - interesting and little visited (for all but a local) spot.

This cache has been on a bookmark list of mine for quite a while now and it sounded it might be still there - yep, it is! Grabbed it between passing traffic. I hear this was wingaap's first ever cache? It's historic! Smile TFTC

I hear wrong... his 5th cache!

02-Mar-08
Cache 22 of 40 on a big day of caching with Kholometers. We didn't realise it had been archived either, we found easily and quickly and then moved on. TNLN, TFTC.

18-Feb-08
Didn't know it was archived as am working off an oldish PQ.
The cache is there!!!

Cheers,
Moneydork (your NZ friend).

16-Feb-08
Replaced twice this week. Looks like the local muggles or school children have taken a liking to my magnetic boxes.

23-Jan-08
At 6:30am it is pretty deserted, a good time to search for a cache. A good hide, found after Green Corner this morning on my way to work.

31-Dec-07
Eenie, meenie, minee, moe - yes that one. TFTC

14-Nov-07
With the name of the log we were hoping to get some lunch here but we went hungry. After finding the cache the name was very apt.

28-Oct-07
Recieved a shonky call from shonylogic as I arrived at this cache. The perfect excuse to park the car and wander around jabbering. All the while peering and peeking.

Spotted the cache and logged while still on the call. Shonky was wondering if I was near a PC to do a webcam. Sorry. Not just here.

Lovely location. Very pretty suburb.

28-Oct-07
Mmmmm minty Sandwich, my favourite. Quick find by Maryan whos eyes are better than mine. Thanks for the cache. Andrew and Maryan.

28-Sep-07
Found with assualt on the way into our local library. We would have passed this unknowingly a heap of times! TFTC!

28-Jul-07
Found @ 5:55am

Snowman48 and I met up with Slapshot52 and jaymegee (visiting from the US) at oh dark thirty to see if we couldn't get a good "day's" caching in before the breakfast. Cache density is pretty high in wingaap territory so we were in for a pretty good morning.

This was our first cache of the morning and got us off to a good start. We found it just as the sun was turning the clouds to the east deep red. Slapshot made sense of the description and all but walked straight up to it and found it.

28-Jul-07
First of 15 caches on a "cache and dash" trip with Snowman48, Mloe, and Slapshot 52 while visiting Brisbane from Colorado on a business trip. Ditto what Slapshot52 said -- big thanks to Mloe and Snowman48 for choosing the caches, driving us around and (ahem) teaching me to use my GPSr more effectively Smile

28-Jul-07
Grabbed this one on a personal record breaking "Cache and Dash" with Snowman48, Mloe, and jayemgee while visiting Brisbane from Colorado Springs, Colorado on a business trip. It was nice to get out of the downtown area and see something beside the inside of the hotel and the walls of a meeting room! Big Thanks to Mloe and Snowman48 for taking time away from visiting family on a beautiful Saturday morning to show us around this great city.

28-Jul-07
Since we were visiting from the USA we decided to a little cache hunting very early in the morning. So a team of Jayemgee, Slapshot52, Snowman48 and Mloe (the guy with the local knowledge) set out to find as many caches in 4 hours as possible. This was one of 15 finds for the day and a great welcome back to caching for Slapshot52 who has been in a very unsuitable caching location for a good time. Thanks for the cache.

18-Jul-07
Finally got around to finding this cache on my way to the library. An easy find.

29-Jun-07
Night-caching is much easier than day-caching! No muggles. And walked straight to cache. TFTC

17-Jun-07
Haha, "sandwich"! Nice little spot, had a look around at the old houses in the area. Muggle-free, so apart from my family laughing hysterically as this not-quite-as-tall-as-she-needed-to-be geocacher leapt for the cache, it was an incident free grab. And another off my catching-up-to-Mum list! TFTC. ='.'=

03-Jun-07
Drove past GZ and wondered if I should skip this one. At 10:50 on a Sunday morning it was fairly quite, so I strolled over and there it was. A quick look around and I had the goods. Back to the car to log it. TN/LN/SL. Putting it back was a bit tricky. One of the neighbours must have had a family reunion. I had to wait for four car loads of hugging, kissing, waving visitors to leave.

02-Jun-07
Didn’t see anyone about, and a quick find meant there were no ‘feeling conspicuous’ issues! Thanks for the cache wingaap.

21-May-07

Whilst others may not consider the area significant...it is significant to me personally. It was in the library adjacent where I first found out about geocaching.

20-May-07
Unarchiving cache.

17-Apr-07
Found OK....

17-Apr-07
removed from service....

The cache was seen as being similar to takeaway style container, next to a dumpster in the back of a shopping centre (rating 1)

To me the area was significant as it was near where I first learnt about geocaching (the library across the road)....for others it has nothing except for the small park just down the road.

17-Apr-07
Found SL and picked up the container for the owner (Ransom note to follow)..

So long Sandwich and thanks for the fish!!

15-Apr-07
Found after big brissy brekky. Found with the Bundy's in tow.

The hide was clever (and I like clever), but I couldn't quite fathom why the cache was located here, which I thought let the cache down.

*Overall Experience: 1* - this is a GCA thing and in this case relates to the locale.

Found after big brissy brekky. Thanks - nice little hide. Good luck in having it last though!

*Overall Experience: 1* < this is a GCA thing.

25-Mar-07
This must have been 'muggle in the front garden day' and I wasn't informed!!! Managed to look like we were teaching the geokids how to cross the road and think we got away with it!

25-Mar-07
Busy little place today - lots of cars driving through, neighbours all out having a chat. Luckily we took the kids with us and used them as a distraction so I could make a quick grab for this sandwich. Thanks again wingaap.

25-Mar-07
Gracious, how tricky was that to grab without being seen! We wandered over to the park to sign the log so we didn't look quite so conspicuous. Geokids were happy they got to sample yet another playground.
TFTC

15-Mar-07
As I approached the cache site, I knew where it would be hiding.
2 minutes all up to find, sign and replace.
Gee, the Posspet Boys have long arms, or maybe I'm short.

10-Mar-07
DNF @ 11:09

I gave a cursory look for the cache but really Saturday morning is not the best time to have a proper search for this one.

04-Feb-07
Easy find. TFTC

A dash for this one and it was in hand.
Cheers from the Posspet Boys

Luckily I am height blessed. Found easily. Beautiful in here. I used to live in this area and I miss its little dead end streets, hills and parks. Thanks wingaap for an enjoyable afternoon exploring it again.

06-Jan-07
Found this cache quite easily however whoever was here before us must have been on stilts when they replaced it. We almost needed a ladder to retrieve it. Anyway we thought we would assist the next person in finding this cache by locating it a little lower in its location.

Find 7/23 today

[Found it just sticking around minding its own buisness, TN L TB (Microcache Rider)

01-Jan-07
Found by Sunshine Toledo and Her Majesty at 3:40pm. This is our 2nd look for this one but the first visit was at night when it wasn't there. No wonder we couldn't find it. It was very quiet in the streets but we still used the library to sit and fill in the log. Holidays mean lots of people are away so getting to this type of cache is a little easier. TNLNSL TFTC.

Yum, finding this one made us think of lunch! Stealth mode required as this is quite a busy little spot! SL TFTC.

Sandwich seems to be MIA

I'll get a replacement out as soon as I'm able

This cache was find number 25 of 102 finds I did with Dtay for our record attempt on Saturday 18 November 2006.
We were here at 05:57 hours.

An unusual place for a cache this one - fortunately no muggles around at this time on a Saturday morning.
Recorded our visit and off to the next one.

This cache was find number 25 of 102 finds today with Rogainer as part our record attempt.

Found at 05:57 hours.

Interesting place for a hide. Paul found it as I was taking the name too literally.

21-Oct-06
Nice easy find - especially having just left "Bystander". TFTC

19-Oct-06
Plucked up the courage for a bold grab at 7am. Not too many muggles around but the location is rather exposed! Cheers, Featherwaite.

17-Oct-06
We spotted it, grabbed it and took it back to the car and signed the log - that was the easy bit. Trying to put it back posed a bit of a problem Muggles evvvvverrrrywhere.
You need eyes in the back of your head for this one.
However finally replaced it, confident the cache is safe.
TFTC TNLN.

11-Oct-06
Did this at 4.30am. Guy sitting at his front window was a bit off-putting, but he seemed intent on what ever he was doing (propably looking up his next cache)and was oblivious to me mucking about outside (I am height disadvantaged so this was a challenge). TFTC

Sandwich – Found at 4:03am, found by number 2 daughter. Nice and quiet at 4am in the morning, no problems with being observed at this time of the morning. The name really says it all. Easy pickup.

Cheers

30-Aug-06
Eleventh of fifty cache finds for the day, on my fly in fly out visit. I found the cache at 11:55. A nice quick walk in walk out log the cache in the car and put it back cache. Thanks Wingaap for the cache.

Found at 2.20 pm by an excited 5year old geoboy . This generated more excitement than usual because this was our 2nd go at it .Nice hide TNLNSL TFTC.

15-Jul-06
Spottde the cache straight off but getting it proved to be a problem. muggle city saturday arvo.Between library visitors and muggles talking on the corner I had to go for a walk and come back for the booty.TFTC.

10-Jul-06
A quick look for this one while being given the muggle look from all directions. Now I have got home and read the previous logs ,I now know we weren't looking in the right direction.I thought DAD78 was called so because he a late 70's baby but now I'm thinking he is an ex basketballer who stands 7 foot eight .We might need to borrow him , to compensate for our lack of height.

07-Jul-06
Another great cache. There were very few people about so the find was easy to make and record etc, despite the hijinks of the Micro-Geeks. Some very nice scenery in the park while watching the Micro-Geeks playing on the swings! Bonus! Thank you, Wingaap.

Regards,

Pseudo-Geek.

4th find out of 6 today so far. Very busy with the mugles around the library. TFTC wingaap

27-Jun-06
Found as part of a trip to the library - a nice place to fill in the micro-log (and, possibly, to log a visit)

12-Jun-06
What Crew 153 said!

Thanks DAD78! See I am not tall at all!

12-Jun-06
This required two visits today.

First time we were watched by neighbours. Located the cache but could not retrieve it.

Returned later with the assistance of DAD78 who had the right attributes for retrieval.

No watchers this time so it was easy.

Thanks to DAD78 for the help with the 16 finds today.

12-Jun-06
Had to be tall to get this one.

06-Jun-06
This was our 27th cache of 40 for the day on our self guided tour of Brisbane We pulled up at this one and after a brief search in a few possible locations we spotted the cache. It took a further ten minutes before the coast was clear and we could actually retrieve it. Went back to the car to do the paperwork and then we had to wait for another 15 minutes for the chance to replace it
Thanks for a good hide in a difficult location

26-Apr-06

Replaced log book.....yes, it's a micro log book for a microcache Smile

25-Apr-06
Nice hide Smile

Very quiet today - not a muggle in sight. Log book is full, so we signed the sheet of paper someone else had left. TFTC.

25-Apr-06
great day for caching today - nomuggle around^^ need a new notebook Wingaap - left red pencil TFTC

We were trying to guess the exact sandwich location as we were approaching. The 1st lady won! The Pres has been planning a similar hide for some time, just hasnt' got 'round to it.

TFTC wingaap

17-Apr-06
The kids were well and really tuned in to cache locating by now and this one fell with barely a whimper. All that was required from the parents was the GPS, a reminder to be careful crossing roads and a signature for the log book.

Muggles , muggles and more muggles but the geocycle allowed me to sus out the correct spot.

Think I found the "Grey" in a spot like this last week.

Fifteenth of 24 finds for the afternoon. Out in the open for all the World to see is right! Fortunately, there was nobody about, except a bloke building a carport up the road, and he was too engrossed in his work to notice me. It was an easy find at 1630. No exchange made. Thanks to wingaap for the cache.

29-Jan-06
I guess I'm one of those persons to whom this cache is unsuitable. But as there was no-one around on Sunday morning, I snached the box, walk to distance to log and returned it back yo its place. Presumbably it all went unnoticed.

12-Jan-06
Needs some paper also damp

08-Jan-06
Was difficult to search properly for this one as neighbour muggles were having a vocal domestic in the street....
Decided to leave and return at a later date when not QUITE so obvious.

07-Jan-06
Difficult due to the prominate location of the site, hard to be discrete.

The log was wet and full of entries.

The Carta juniors spotted it first otherwise I would still be there.

Thanks
The Carta and Co

01-Jan-06
A very apt name for this one. Quite an exposed area, but not too many people about.

14-Dec-05
22:33hrs Found this one easily but even at this time of the night there was a muggle returning books to the library. After he left we logged our visit.

Not to be disappointed at another wingaap cache, my Sister In Law spotted this one when I told her the name of the cache. We could have been here for so much longer. I loved the idea and the placement.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks wingaap (again). I can't wait to see what other ones we find of your today.

The first cache of many on a very long but enjoyable night in the company of Critter2. She had a laugh watching us walking in circles as she had already done this one. Found at 2020. Nicely hidden!! TNLN

26-Sep-05
Well it certainly is! Great hide and maybe an inspiration for a future Melb cache!

20-Sep-05
It was 10.30pm and I was sprung by an old couple sitting quitely on their porch while they had their evening cuppa (In the dark.) What was I doing with a torch "there" at that time of night?
Of course I explained I was from the UQ doing research on a particular type of Geeko often found in the area. ( I'm certain they would not have believed me if I told them what I was really doing!!!)
This seemed OK to them so I went back to the Car with the Cache and drove off. I had to wait 30 minutes (so they had gone inside)then return to replace the Cache.
Nice spot and has given me some a good Idea!
Signed Log in the car.

Found the sandwich without too much trouble whilst on the pushbike today. Once again the bike came in useful as a distraction whilst grabbing the cache, everyone thinks you've just stopped for a rest. Thanks for the cache.

11-Sep-05
after driving a few small cirlces around ground zero we finally had to just park and seek it on foot.

score, and fortunately there was no one around for the few minutes it took to get, log and replace.
