Heading on the Journey South to OzGeoMuster'18 with Fangsoki and Crew153 in the mighty Suzee and we'd been on the road for about 5 hours already, with the sun now up we were starting to think a short leg stretch stop was on the cards. Now Fangsoki remembered this old beauty. We'd actually had it on our radar - same people, different car - when we drove back from a Sydney weekend nearly four years ago, but we were tired and not wanting a stop then. But today, this looked about right.

Once we worked out where to park and how to do a U-Turn on the freeway, we found ourselves only a hundred or so metres from GZ along what looked like a comfy walking path. Until we turned left and went bush. Head-high, still wet, grass. Yumm. Up the Pile we went until stopped a metre or so from desired GZ by thistles. So back down and around we went to come up - as suggested - from the West-North-West side. Simpler, if still somewhat of a bush bash and a swamp underfoot. But a much better approach.

Ah hah - the 'heralded blocks' we were reading about. Niiice. And so we set about the search. Fang and I went too far "in", but Mr reliable Crew153 was able to proudly announce "Got it". WOW!!! six and a half years. 2400 days. We will sure accept that!

Coordinates were pretty good. You are essentially underneath a bush and trees so a metre or two between friends doesn't count. The contents are old, but recogniseable, and the all important logbook is in very good condition. This cache is a good-un.

Thanks for placing this cache, fletchboy. Found in fine condition.

I have had this cache on watch for over 5 years now. When I was in the area, I just could not get to this one - mainly due to work.

In 2014, Pprime, Crew 153, and I were going to go for it after coming back from Sydney. However we hit the Coffs area around 9pm. No one was interested... we were all very tired. Abort.

The others forgot this one. I did not. I kept it bookmarked. I reminded everyone today and of it and I was not interested in sailing past this time. I wanted to look.

And that we did. We parked up nearby and made our way toward the cache.

I never get my hopes up when hunting for archiveds. I would say we fail 98% of the time. But that 2% when we do find one is sweet.

First order of business was to traverse grass up to chests. Lordy - I wonder just how much this area has changed since this cache was found 6.5 years ago? We started up a mound where our GPSr's were sending us. Wet underfoot... lots of lantana. Crew 153 led the way and we got up the top.

But where to from here? We tried to follow the hint. No.... no good from this angle. We tried to follow our GPSrs. No - a wall of lantana had other ideas.

Back down and we went and around. I led the way.. across some invisible swamp (the grass was that thick). We started to see hiding spots in the shapes of rocks. We checked a few and found nothing. Up we went around the back the back of the mound. Rocks. Lots of rocks. We started the hunt. It was tough going. The lantana was unrelenting and we had to break a swathe so we could search without being scratched and poked.

It wasn't looking great. I was re-tying my shoe for the 15th time for the day when Crew 153 announced he found it. We had all walked past it. But Crew 153 was the one that came up with the goods.

The cache was in excellent condition. We happily signed the log 6.5 years after the last folks. With obligatory pictures taken, it was back down to the grass and back to the car.

We were very itchy and scratched up - but that archived find was so worth it. A fun cache to do - especially when it hasn't been found in so long. TFTC fletchboy Smile

For quite a few years I have kept a track of all caches in Australia which have been archived and I have created bookmark lists of them all (see my profile page). I also look at he listing of archived caches and try to determine if the cache has been left in situ and also created a separate bookmark list of these.

When I am out and about I try to look for caches in this list and occasionally I come up with a gem like this. But, I cannot take too much credit for this one as it was Fangsoki who had remembered it as we were in the area on a drive down to the Mega event.

Along with Pprime we headed into the long grass and hidden watercourse and then climbed the mount to obstacle to discover that there was nothing that remotely resembled the hint so we headed back down to approach from a different angle. The area must have changed a lot since the cache was placed 13 years ago as we could not see any of the mentioned landmarks but we spread out to see what we could find and after about 5 minutes I spotted something under a rock and excitedly withdrew the container and called "I found it" to the others. The container was in great shape after the length of time it has been there as the hide has been keeping it out of the weather.

Chuffed to find an unloved cache and to put our mark in the log book 2400 days after the last finder.

TFTC fletchboy. Let's hope it lasts another 13 years for our enjoyment.

Found this one after a bit of a hunt, but almost twisted my ankle a couple of times in hidden holes. Coordinates seem to be a bit off. Thanks Aussie Liahona for mentioning to not go down the hill. And something in the cache had started to corrode other objects. It was pretty disgusting. Cleaned it out as best we could and threw out some of the worst damaged items. Still, may need some maintainence. TFTC!

Not recommended at night. Too many nooks. Possible to park next to gz if you do it right.

Met the property owner coming home from work (cache is next to his driveway).

I went too far up the Pacific highway, so had to climb a couple of fences and jump a creek to get to this rather than try and turn around. On approach to GZ, realised I could have got within meters of it. I took a pen out, as I couldn't close the lid with all the geojunk. Don't get what all the description is about. It must have meant something before the highway was completed? Cheers from the Browngang.

Found this one while a local was knocking off gravel nearby for his driveway.

Didn't read the hint, gps took me slightly off course ended up ankle deep in mud and lost my shoe. Alot a' fun tho.

09-Oct-10
Parked in Deans Road and walked around the short distance to GZ. Not the most attractive location around Coffs and there could be a few joe blakes around in summer. No one around and the cache was eventually found when the search was widened a bit. Thanks for the cache fletchboy.

Was able to drive almost right up to this cache and park in parking beside the highway. can't believe this pile of mess has been here hiding the cache since early 2005. It looked like the co-ords wanted to take me down off the pile but a further look proved to be fruitful and the cache was found before I climbed down. TFTC.
Took: doctor toy
Left: Bouncy ball

10-Jul-10
I got a bit lost trying to navigate to this one. After studying the map I worked it out and ended up parking pretty close to the GZ.

A stumpy legged lizard was hanging out by the caches hidey hole. TFTC

Took nothing, left doctor Nic Riviera.

Eventually got to GZ but couldn't find cache for some time . Finally found it about 10m away from where the GPS said it should be. Suggest that you add 6 to the posted South co-ord and add 2 to the East figure. TFTC.

Found the site readily enough, but wasn't impressed with it. I spent at least half an hour fossicking in the long grass and rubble, but no luck. I think I stayed too close to the published coordinates. Eventually got fed up with the area and left. I may try again now that I know where to go.

New coordinates left in previous visitor log closer than published coords
Found after about 10 ins searching
Took mirror ball
Left scout patch

06-Sep-09
Not a very nice place for a hide, much nicer ones close by. Evidence of large equipment movement, so be careful hide isn't disturbed by excavation works. Took toy bronze medal, left pirate coin.

16-Aug-09
Thanks, nice bike ride. Took Geocache Cow Critter, left orange tail light. Cheers.

It's a pity that this cache was placed in such a crap location, considering that there are countless beautiful natural sites in this area.
Never the less having made the effort we persisted and eventually found GZ. The published co-ords seem to be out a bit so took an average to compare: (S 30 20.808. E 153 03.951)
Left a Cache Critter - Geo Moo, with the goal to travel Australia then hopefully overseas; and some salt sachets (for the leeches) . Took nothing.

13-Jun-09
Had to search a bit as the co-ordinates seemed to be 7-8 meters out but the kids eventually found it. Had to remove several leeches as has been very wet recently. TNLN. Thanks for the cache.

Getting to GZ was easy enough but the deep grass and heaps of rubble refuse to give up the cache Smile

Mrs K and I looked for this one in the long grass area, we found the hills hoist but the grass well covered it's direction, guess we wait and try again when in the area

Found on the great Top Gear tour with Geo-uncle Lat & Long Junkie. Boy did this one test us. I was looking everywhere but couldn't locate it. Lucky L&LJ had his caching eyes on and spied it in the end. TFTC

This was something of a challenge. Geonephew, 'Bedmaker' and I arrived quite close to the cache in the bedmobile, but that was the last of the easy bits. The terrain earns those stars and the long grass kept us scratching for ages afterwards. I found the cache, after crawling about and reaching into all sorts of places, by standing in one particular spot and looking in just the right direction. I think the cache felt sorry for me and moved into sight. I'm sure it wasn't there earlier. TN/LN/SL. Thanks for the adventure.

0635, While on my solo way to Qld for a heart health conference thought I'd drop in and grab this cache. Well hidden from drive-by muggles.
Brought through: Baa and Oink coins, and B2B travel ingot.

(Used decrypted clue to aid in finding cache as GPSr was taking me a bit further away).

I tried this one about 12 months ago on another trip to Coffs Harbour, without success. As I drove north on the highway today, this one again popped up on my GPS. I was able to park on the side of the north bound lane within 50 metres of the cache. So I thought, why not [^]

Used the hint and although I found the Cache my GPSR had me about 20 metres out.

Found at 3.40pm GAFF1. Not the highlight of our day by any means, but at least we got to work out the best approach. Can't stop thinking that the recent works in the area have interferred with the recommended various stages. GZ was once again a fair way out for us - not sure if it some weird magnetic field thing around here or the way the co-ords are read for the initial posting.
Thanks fletchboy.

Every so often a cache will take you to a spectaculary beautiful location that you never knew existed. This is not one of them.

I loved the rhyming encrypted clue.

Took something and left something, but didn't write down what it was. Oops.

We tackled this cache from Deans road and were quickly on site, so the directions on getting to the site were not needed. We posted this as a DNF after a good 45 minutes searching. We wonder if this cache should be disabled until it can be checked out by the owner, given the amount of time since the last find and the physical evidence of caching traffic at the cache site without any log action.

After treading lightly as I didnt want to surprise the slimey snakes that live around here I found the cache tucked away.

I'd crossed this cache off my to-attempt list for the day as it looked like too much work for what we were after, however as we were speeding by we noticed ourselves almost upon the cache, so we pulled up and had a look.

Getting to GZ was easy, however, no matter how hard we looked and how many times we read those hints we couldn't find the cache anywhere. We eventually left, very disappointed at our efforts.

It was only a few hours later after we'd done a few other caches that we decided to come back and give this one another go! Based on our discussions over those hours we were sure we knew where it would be - we were wrong Sad

But we kept looking and looking and eventually, what do you know, there it was, exactly where the hints said it should be! Very relieved to get this in the end.

Heading through to Woolgoolga, stopped for some more caching. Looked at the clues and figured I had skipped the first couple of steps through luck on parking spot selection. From there a short walk to the cache location, with the cache soon found.
TNLNSL, thanks for the cache!
best wishes,
Wal

Lucky no snakes met up with us!

clues were as good as they get, found it in less than a few minutes once reaching the GZ.

Early morn' and I found myself walking along in the rain following the clues to find the foxy cache.
What sort of adventure lay ahead I wondered. I was expecting a swim after all the overnight rain [:o]
Stayed dry though and with some help from the hills found the nice dry cache Big Grin

A challenging rock scramble for a 2 year old and 5 year old. Lucky dad was there. We followed the Hills hoist and found this one. Good job Fletch Boy. We left a block and took Batman for a ride to Crossy.

Handy to where we are staying Took travel and pedometer and left pliers. Thanks fletchboy

13-Mar-06
Found eventually, after a false start behind lots of houses with lots of dead ends. Agree with Chambos about co-ords also found GZ to be about 20m off.
Droped of TB Tazz who is on a detour on his way to Hobart. Picked up TB Cyris the Dream

24-Dec-05
Found it 0850, another first find for the chambos.
An interesting approach path. We walked the track, didnt need to get our feet wet and found the unsaying blocks and the not hidden hills hoist.

Suggest that the co-ords need to be checked as GZ was some 20 meters off the final cache location.

Took the golden finch and left TB "Cyris the Dream"

Thanks Fletchboys.
