Logs
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
Even though it was overcast it was a hot muggy day and the walk up to this cache brought out the sweat in us both. A lot of hidey holes to check but we eventually came up with the cache. As per previous logs this cache is showing signs of neglect. It needs replacing - both the container nd the log book are beyond repair. Perhaps the next visitor could come prepared.
After reading the logs about needing maintenance I've been up here to do some repairs. The only trouble is that I haven't been able to find it to fix the problem. I've disabled the cache until I can actually find it. I didn't think it was that hard.
Too many rocks to look under! Bits of barbed wire everywhere. Gave up our search with geokids. Go hunting for something different instead.
after a bit of a search and a lot of rock moving finaly found it but could not log our find due to the wet condition of log book.
It took a long time but we eventually found the cache. Great view from this lookout. Be prepared for a very damp logbook.
Had xmas picnic lunch at the gorge today so decided to have another look and bring some extra eyes, 5 sets of eyes and 40 minutes later we still did no good
Found walk in but decided in wrong spot and went back to swing bridge only to find we were at the right spot in first place so walked all the way back. Never mind great place and lookout just enjoyed it twice! spent ages looking for the cache but just could not find it. We will be back, once rested!
Spent a good hour wandering around and trying to find this one. Ended up giving up and heading off to another cache in the area.
Nice cache with a great view. Thanks for that. (Unfortunately the log book needs some upkeep, because it's very wet)
Great walk to GZ then a thorough search finally turned up the cache. There were lots of small lizards around but no snakes thank goodness! The log book was quite wet and needs drying. I took the geocoins and TB's to take to Queensland. TFTC Bird Boys.
We spent far to many visits to find this one. Finally found in the dark with a head lamp. Don't know why we could not find it before. Anyway we have it now. Grabbed a travel bug and geocoin for our efforts.
walked on from 'From an Eagles Eye' and arrived when it was almost dark.
It was still raining but the fog was thicker than ever and seemed to reflect in the torch light.
I phoned a friend for help and even extended my search but the conditions and the fact I watched 'Predator versus Alien' the night before made me give it all away after about a half hour.

Found it. The lid of the container has a crack so the content is a little damp, but in good shape. I left the Sydney Hospital Travelbug, now this thing is absolutely stuffed with Geocoins and Travelbugs.
Liked the hide! Loved the view! Amused that Sparklellama couldn't even find it again when we went back with him a FEW MINUTES LATER!!!
After going to the wrong look-out we decided to initially give up. Sparkellama pushed on to find it. Upon returning to the group Sparkellama realised the he needed the numbers of some items he placed in the cache so we decided to go back with him. We thought it would be an easy find since we had Sparkellama with us to show the way, we thought wrong. You see he forgot where the cache was so the four of us spent the next 10 mins trying to locate the cache again. Eventually it was located and we also decided to fill this cache with trackable items. Thanks for the cache. BTW the gorge was fantastic in flood.

Came up the hard way from the alexandra lookout Cache lid cracked - maintenance needed? But contents appear OK, hiding spot is giving adequate shelter it seems. I actually dropped off 3 bugs but am only logging 2 as one I can't get the code to work - will fix if I can.
No muggles around so had a good scrounge for it, but bombed out on this one unfortunately.
Thanks for bringing us up to this lookout never been to this one before, however no luck with the cache.
Next time maybe.
Next time maybe.
Went to the wrong lookout to start with,
but we couldn't find it after the correction.
the camelpack
but we couldn't find it after the correction.
the camelpack
found it after a bit of a search. lots of good hiding places and the GPS was a little off. the lid of the container was cracked and thing were a little damp. put log in new zip lock bag but will need drying out come summer. we have had some good rain and a lot of logs are damp. good tassie weather is back. it is still a great view. TFTC.
Thank you for this cache..We were on holidays from NSW and really enjoyed a different view not on the tourist maps..
regretfully dnf - too many great spots between rocks too much barbed wire... Couple of rock falls. a few injuries. searched for an hour. we'd like to see someone else find it before we get too excited about going back.

DNFon this one searched for an hour with fiveforthefinding with injuries and no cache may go back another day good spot .
I misinterpreted the advice about following tracks and managed to take the rock scramble from the lower lookout (like so many others before me I now see...). After some searching I broke out the hint and but I didn't find it helpful. Like others before me, I found plenty of barbed wire though!
Good fun, and what a place! Glad I took the hike up here. There where lots of people around, but none where geocaching. I was walking around with a purpose ... which would be strange, as I had never been there before. As it was, it was nothing less than awesom! TNSL, and left a special geocoin.
A better lookout than the one below and worth searching out the maze of walking tracks to find. Kids enjoyed the view but the hunt was too challenging for them...and for me. Abandoned the search after the smallest child had an incident with an innocent rock leaving a nasty painful scrape down her calf.
Will have to search for this cache on another visit, thanks Bird boys for the GZ, it's well worth the walk.

Went to one lookout and left Geo kids and geowife to scramble vertically up the hill to find the next lookout. Watch out for the barbed wired. TFTC.
No TB found in cache. Maybe next time.

Found this one on our first day in Tassy on two week holiday - beautiful sunny day with stunning view TFTC Took NSH Boomerang TB Cheers Sarian
Found With a School Group, In IT Grade 9 we do a segment on GIS and GPS's and we have a Geocaching Excursion, My IT teacher Let me Teach the class about Geocaching!
Good Hide I did not get to find it because another Group found it before us and were logging it, Great Hiding Spot!, I have wanted to do this cache for ages but my IT teacher told me not do do the ones around the Gorge so I restrained myself from doing them (well mostly)
Thanks for the Cache, Took nothing Left Nothing As we had a race for who can do the most caches! (my Group Won, the other groups had old Garmin 60's without the high sensitivity receiver where i had my eTrex Venture HC, PSP for paperless caching and experience.)
Thanks for making our Caching Trip a success with your Cache!

Found quickly, by a muggle friend who is fast learning the art of geocaching. Put me to shame as I was standing less than 2 feet from the location when he said "is this it". Also of note is that the last log entry (from earlier in the week) was from to muggles who stumbled across the cache. The log book makes for an interesting read (I had this happen to one of my ACT caches, and it shows that there are people around who do care for others enjoyment!!). Took nothing, Left NSH Boomerang TB. TFTC
Some wallabies showed us the way so it was an easy find with some awesome views. TFTC.
Lovely spot, but couldn't find the cache by hook or by crook! So many perfect cache hiding spots and too much barbed wire to make it an easy find. I didn't know this lookout existed though, so TFTC.
I should know better than to look for caches on an overcast day on a time limit, in the words of a famous Austrian..... I'll be back
We were about to give up on this one, as the GPS had us 23 metres down the path. Spent nearly 1 hour looking. Walked up to the lookout to have a look before heading back to the car with our tails between our legs with a DNF. Sat the GPS down to have a look and there it was only a new reading only a few metres from the GPS was placed. Hey presto, LCC, SL
We looked everywhere for this one under all of the rocks and nooks and crannies but to no avail. We have to log a DNF. The hint was no good to us as there was barbed wire everywhere going in all directions which was actually quite dangerous as it was all rusty. TFTC and bringing us up to this nice part of Cateract Gorge.
Took a couple of wrong tracks before getting the right one. Great views.6 of 9 on a GORGEous afternoon. Thanks birdboys
Great views, Mrs Daimler Ute needed a few stops on the way a bit too steep for her liking. Daimler Ute (Qld).
Found with Little Miss Muggle and Dicko. Fantastic View from up the top there and a decent bit of leg work to get there.
Thanks Bird boys for the cache,

Still not a terrain 5 but some very good views so we are passing this coin through for a look.
After completing the nearby GORGEOUS with micaparamedic we headed off for a walk to this one. After finding the right track we were happy to find the area muggle free. After taking the mandatory photos we started to search for the cache. We were thinking that it might be another DNF when micaparamedic located the cache in a spot we had previously checked

A great view point made up for not finding this cache. Looked for 20 minutes and used the clue but did not come up with the goods.
My third lookout today around the gorge and dont my legs just know it!
Once the GPS settled the cache was found within a few minutes.
Many thanks.

Made the climb on a very hot afternoon after lunch, leaving mum and bub behind at the water's edge.
Found plenty of the clue, but no cache. Has not been seen for months.
Went back down and had refreshing swim in the gorge. Beautiful.

went here, found the stuff the clue spoke of, couldn't for the life of us, find the cache.
oh well, there's always next time!

Two of the MadMyers found this one - the other two staged a sit in on the steps on the way up. Too many steps in too many days! But the other two charged on up and found the cache and signed the log. Thanks for the cache.
Great lookout - thanks for the drive to get up there. I think I missed the geocoin in there - I'll get it next time!
It took a while to get to this one, and then it took a while to find it as well. Ran into a muggle as I was clambering over some rocks trying to find GZ, but I think I scared him off
Had no luck with this one - found the barbed wire but way too many hiding places for us. View was great though and worth the effort.
It was a beautiful day in Launceston and we loved this location. Needed the clue for this one as there was a myriad of hidey holes. Left a couple of coins to reward those prepared to climb all those steps. TFTC
We've never been to this particular lookout before.Great view. Took a while to find it, even with the clue. No muggles about. Took a lizard and TB, left a glow in the dark eyeball. Thanks Bird_Boys.
On a day like today i think we should have added another star to the difficulty, over 30 degree heat, should have stayed at the pool with the kids, felt like those stairs would never end, thanks for that, searched everywhere but had to give up as there are no lights all the way up there, not quitting though, we will give it another go when we take the kids for another swim, looking forward to challenging those that track again.
Approached from the wrong lookout also but decided there MUST be another way, as I wasn't up to a vertical rock scramble. Found another path and many more steps!! (Thanks for them Bird_boys!) and eventually also found the cache tucked into a snug little possy. A great view within a magnificent park. Thanks for bringing me here.

Found after some searching and a small encounter with some barbed wire. Good hide and great views. Thanks
A new logbook and much better container have been installed today. Happy hunting.
aaaaargh!,found it but cache desperatly needs new waterproof container, could'nt sign log very wet, another great view, tnln, thanks ftc.
I approached this one from the wrong lookout and had a rock scramble increasing the terrain difficulty to 5! Otherwise an uneventful find. Thanks bird boys these gorge caches are at spectacular sites.
Top view..logbook wet..soggy even..managed to sign with biro..needs attention though.Nice location..lovely area..well done.TFTEC TNLNSL cheers Bird Boys.
poor little bead hare dude TB stuck longtime in cache - can someone rescue him please?
ooh not a BSFjnr friendly cache. we got there eventually though and found a very well hidden cache. Thanks for the hunt.TNLNSL after a lot of searching.
[Easy to climb straight up 60m from one lookout to the next rather than backtrack maze of trails - glad I found this tiny cache! Logged by South Launceston Cricketer muggles! Glad I left the kids behind. Logged in idyllic seclusion from "Tea Rock".
Those with small children might like to note:] To save traipsing small legs uselessly all over the shop - you are looking for the Cataract Lookout not the Alexandra which is below it - turn off 41 26.753 147 06.974 near small bridge, it is about 4 metres off trail but in a straight line from center of lookout - no need for extensive bush bash, it is also almost directly under a piece of barbed wire which is abandoned fence around GZ - careful not to sit or fall on the stuff.[TFTC L TB T photos!

Nice hide - I definately needed the hint on this one. Found with only 30 minutes of light left, and the view was still great! TNLNSL. Thanx Bird_boys...
16.20 Not ANOTHER fantastic cache by the bird boys?! I had sent the slaves into the Gorge to find Where Eagles Dare, and once that was accomplished found myself asking them to find this one as well. They started off at the wrong lookout, but then (now take note of this Swampy) found the correct path to the correct lookout (did you see how easy that was Swampy? No first aide kit required). Took a little hunting, but found without too much trauma. It was a lovely sunny but cool late afternoon autumn day; perfect for these caches that can be a bit ‘warming’! Great views! Thank you for the cache!
What could be better than the Gorge at dusk???
Finding a cache, thats what!!
A quick hike up the hill and soon I had the cache in my hand... I have NO idea why I couldn't find it before, this time it practically jumped out and bit me!!
Excellent work BirdBoys
Walked back down the Gorge towards town when all the lights were on...absolute magic!

As this lookout is not on my maps, I went to the closest one and found out I was not in the right place. Well, I'm not going down those stairs again so I'll just take off straight up the hill and follow the arrow. I know that some of you will cringe because I blindly follow the arrow but in this area, it makes it all the more fun!
Ended up arriving through the back door and the Japanese muggles that arrived shortly after I found the cache were none the wiser until I dropped onto the path and scared them. I made amends by taking their picture for them.
Took nothing, left bounce ball.
Thanks Bird_boys.

I'll have to come back another day.
Was a great evening in the gorge, enjoyed the walk all the same.

Took the climb up to this one on a "very hot" Spring day...
After finding the right track to take to the "Lookout" had little trouble in finding the Cache. The clues put me straight on the spot. I learnt my lesson this time and "stayed on the formed tracks" Took a few wrong ones but just went back and found another one to try.
Thanks Bird_boys, didn't know this lookout was here, great view........O....FTF as well )

Lovely walk - not too ouch but too much barbed wire, too many rocks to look around and not enough GPS accuracy to find this one without geo sniffer doggie....or another hint? I presume it's not too far from the track.
