And, school holidays have rolled round again. We are up at the lake for a couple of days and after the walk to Whisky Falls yesterday, I have a shorter walk for myself today. A circuit of the skating rink loop.
Find 7 here after a couple lakeside. Yes, wouldn't want to be a round pooh bear trying to get in here. Eventually got the right rock.

Decided on a bike ride around the ice skating loop. A nice little ride. After walking our way through teatree we made it to the cache it was a bit damp but all good.
Thanks for placing this cache here.
Thanks for placing this cache here.
I had an early morning walk into here, really nice along the bush track... the bird song was plentiful...I searched for quite some time without success...them A set of women's eyes and its all done durr moment....thanks for the cache Maimearv
Wow, poor lonely cache! We headed in and a vehicle was idling close by, behind the manuka. Safe from prying eyes then. Just needed to find the proverbial rabbit hole. The cache is damp but considering it hasn't been found for a while, pretty good. Thanks for the placement waimearev
Checked on this today all intact but if you would like bushes have grown up a bit more since last year
I certainly took the long way around to this one as the phone wasn't showing an easier way. Never mind I found the easier and shorter way when I eventually headed back to the car. My eyes were playing up a bit yesterday and I was seeing double occasionally so that didn't make looking for a cache any easier. Eventually I spotted something and squeezed in to get the cache. I think I know why Pooh lives there, must think there is honey around with all the buzzing. Great to finally get this oldie. tftc
Brought the caravan up to the lake to test out the new towing wheels. We have spent the last couple of nights parked in the park over property behind the cafe...
This morning it was a solo walk for me while hubby stayed reading in bed. "Just be back by lunchtime" was all I got.....
Tucked away here - not too much of a squeeze for me.

A pleasant ride around the lower tracks, picking up caches along the way.
Love the A A Milne reference, a favorite point for that.

Now its time to explore these mountain bike track. Parked up the Seagnoid mobile and started walking.
Quick snag and tag here after scouting along the fenced off area. Cheers
The Seagnoid has to move his new cache, which is way down past St Arnaud, so going along for the trip, with Ricardino in tow as well. There are some caches at St Arnaud, along a bike trail to explore, after business sorted.

Well hidden, but quickly rooted out by TBD. TFTC waimearev.
Got the offer from the Seagnoid to go for a trip down to St Arnaud a few days back so decided to take him up on it. Haven’t done much exploring around St Arnaud so here was a good chance. Weather played ball, and Taybee Dragon was coming too, so it was the three of us on this trip.
First up, the small matter of retrieving one of Tom’s newly planted caches to give it a new location. This was duly done, although the whole process took a little longer than expected. After that, off to St Arnaud. We didn’t pack the bikes but it was mainly caches in a bike park that we targeted, getting these by foot with the car ferrying us as close as possible to them. A few roadblocks, literally, with some locked gates that restricted how close we could get, and a bit of a time restriction too in that we needed to be back in time to host the GIFF later that evening. No worries in the end. We did our caching and still had time to stop in to get an ice cream and say hi to Karen at GC7V5ET. TFTC to all COs.

Nice bike ride to the location. Added our quote to the book. Shame about the fly's. Tftc
If I was only to find one cache today, I wanted it to be this one, as it is a missing placement month; still a long way to go, but every little helps.
I spent too long knocking on the wrong door, before realising that I needed to push further into the Hundred Acre wood. Once there, it was a quick find.
Perhaps not a favourite quote, but apt for geocachers: “I'm not lost for I know where I am. But however, where I am may be lost.”

I was staying nearby with Nana and Grandad and we went for a walk to find this one - they found it about 3 years ago so it was only for me to sign today tftc
Took a few minutes to find the correct hint object but finally got there. The local paradise duck couple were not best pleased to see humans in their habitat though with a concaphony of squawking.
Looked in all the obvious spots but to no avail. And the sand flies were so intense so abandoned this one.

Mrs Kiwimykl and I booked a holiday home at St Arnaud for a long weekend in which we hoped to do a few of the local day walks. Being new to geocaching we thought there might be a few in the area that we could pick up on our walks, so imagine the surprise I got when I checked the GC map of the area, it would take us a week to clear it.
So wouldn't you believe it, after a summer of drought, the weekend we go to the Lakes, the weather forecast is pants. We arrived on Friday morning to driving rain and blustery conditions... well it was like that the whole trip up from Blenheim. So we unpacked the car and had lunch then settled in to read books and magazines for the afternoon.
At about 3pm the weather cleared enough to consider venturing out, so we decided to take a mountain bike ride on the Teetotal flats and hopefully pick up a few caches that had been saved into c:geo. This was the 2nd of 6 we managed to get in three hours on the local tracks. Although there were more about, I hadn't had the opportunity to save them to the app beforehand and the mobile reception was non-existent on this side of town. Never mind, my dedicated GPS is on order and should arrive next week.
Having ridden the Teetotal tracks before, I had a good idea of the general area where the cache may be hidden and when I got there I didn't notice a 'Pooh', but I did find the cache. The log was quickly out and signed and it was good to see three workmates had been through recently as well.

A busy weekend of caching was planned by Capperz, and The Seagnoid and myself were invited along. This was a great chance for each of us to pass a few caching goals. Many of our logs were abbreviated to GH, CAP, SEG or GH TS CZ depending on room available.
With our accomodation booked near Lake Rotoiti, and the inclusion of a small boat to expand our travel options the planning was sorted. Pick up a few each on the way up Friday night. Do the bulk of the walking on Saturday morning. Boat around the lake in the afternoon and then break out the Landrover for some off roading on Sunday. We explored some amazing areas, had a lot of fun and dodged the worst of the weather.
Got this one. "when you go after honey with a balloon, the great thing is not to let the bees know you are coming".

A weekend trip up to the Nelson Lakes with G H 6 7 1 0 and the Seagnoid was planned with a couple of days of the weekend in one of the work baches not far off the lake side in Rotoiti/ St Arnaud. Targets were set; get the Seagnoid past 4000 caches, get more than 50 a day for G H 6 7 1 0, and get me past 3200 cache finds. Also in target was some tramping, some boat caching (grabbing whilst moored as close as safely possible to G Z) some 4 W Driving and some basic park and grabs. We also wanted to get all of the puzzle/unknown caches in St Arnaud as well as 100% of the multi caches in St Arnaud (cache Tectonics!). There was driving, boating, walking, rain, mist, sun, ducklings, eels and trout, sandflies (of course), beech trees and great views. Fun and sweat (no tears), a wasp sting and over 100 caches found for me. We all surpassed our targets and at the end of 2 full on days we returned to a cooler Blenheim than when we left tired out.
Day 3 begins and a couple around St Arnaud to start us off including two solved puzzle caches and a couple of 'on the way past' caches too. Aren't they always on the way past? We contrive to make it so usually!
Nice little hide here with a good theme too. Not many characters from the classic tales present but there was the lesser known character 'alien'. Perhaps they were blown away on a blustery day?

[green] Capperz decided that this was the weekend for a marathon run on St Arnaud. Not sure why, except that base lodge there had a cancelled weekend and was free to grab. So he, I and GH6710 had an interesting time caching the surrounds. Rained on and off. The wet long grass meant that I had wet feet for the entire trip. Saw the insides and tops of clouds, some great views, lotsw of rabbits (or maybe just the one, many times over - it always did the same thing: safe on the side of the road, it decides to runs across just in front of the car). Also got to see robins, sandflies, no keas, sandflies and more sandflies. We managed to get GH to break his 50/day record, and over 120 for the whole trip. Saturday we climbed half way up Mt Robert in the morning then boated around Lake Rotoiti in a little yellow plastic dingy for the afternoon. Sunday was lonely cache day - some over 10 months since their last find. Many of these found with GH's 4x4, bumping over some very rough roads, my first real experience of four wheel driving. What an awesome weekend!
Today is 4x4 day. But first we got to get there, early start, caching along the way.
“When you see someone putting on his Big Boots, you can be pretty sure that an Adventure is going to happen.” Or in my case, the real adventure starts when I am putting on my boots that aren't really big enough. I am going to have to throw out my shoes at the end of this trip.

Tackling a Teetotal MB Park cache run.
Underway and biking this was #3 of the run.
Straightforward find, cache in order; log signed and safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
Loving the St Arnaud area. The MB Park adds to the interest, for sure.

After walking to Lakehead Hut and back, I drove over here to see how much snow was still around. (Orienteering here tomorrow). I parked as close as I could drive and then skirted the pooh ponds to GZ. After a bit of rummaging around I spied the hiding spot. I unstuck pooh, signed his log and stuck him back. Cache in good condition. TFTC.

Had a good look, maybe I should of put my hand in there.
Pretty crappy here LOTS of dead ducks all lying around not a pretty sight.

[blue]Day 3 of our 31 Days of Caching Challenge.[/blue] 30/30 for the day. The sun was setting and we had just found our 29th cache for the day nearby and we wanted to bump it up to an even number before heading into St Arnaud for the night. I looked up what was close and thought we could go for this one on foot. Sorry I didnt know any Winnie the Pooh quotes to write in the book but was amazed that the log has lasted so long. The outer bag with trinkets in it had a bit of water in it and had rusted the badge and a few other bits. Mum dried the not rusty toys and put them back but we took the wet outer bag. Thanks for the cache
Found myself close to here while exploring options for another cache so risked life and limb according to all the hazard signs to achieve this smilie. Tipped out all the water but log still ok. Resisted the temptation to play pooh sticks on the way back to a much appreciated coffee prepared just to my liking. TFTC #4612
Back for a second look. Found rabbits back door this time. Emptied a wee puddle of water out of the container. Log all dry.

pretty neat location, so many flies... hint: bring Off or some kind of bug repellant.
but yes, what the.fox said, we tried and failed.
but yes, what the.fox said, we tried and failed.
Passed the green pole the first time, backtracked and found it on the way back. Followed GPS to coordinates and found rabbit hole with rock blocking it. Seemed like obvious location but couldn't find cache. Rainy day, stuck our hands in as far as we dared - either wrong location or cache is in deep? Looked around but didn't find anything else...
I'm not sure we took the recommended track to this but we got there anyway. A short search soon turned up the cache but not where we were expecting. TFTC.
Another beautiful day in paradise so why not do a cache or two with Holymu. At GZ a few options were explored as long as the arm could reach. Not sure if cache creep or regenerating vegetation played a role but eventually the cache was in hand and log signed. TFTC
Missed the green pole on our way in,I did find another pole but of course was the wrong one, backtracked and found it quickly,Not what I was expecting when we got there.Took us awhile to find it as we were all looking in the wrong place,Noone seemed to want to put their hand in there. Finally Dazzaboi found it.TFTC
Took a bit of hunting around to find this, Im sure there has been a bit of growth since the placement. Found while out caching with friends on a big misson. Thanks for the cache
We came up empty handed today. Found a rabbit hole with a rock guarding the entrance. Stuck my arm in past my elbow! Wouldn't be doing that in Australia! I think the rabbit has come in from the other end and stolen your cache Searched around for other possible hidey holes to no avail.
Had to rummage around a lot to get this one - if sandflies were bees then Pooh Bear would have been in heaven! There was definitely a rumbly in my tumbly so off we went for lunch...TFTC
Pooh was home wen we popped in late tonight. Bit of scratching round in the dark to find it. Cache is a bit wet, tried to get as much water out as we could. TFTC!
A nice walk to this unusual location followed by a fairly quick find of the nicely concealed cache. No smell today. TFTC - 23 of 75
1230hrs And it did to, don't expect any seet 'hunee'. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
No heffalumps or tiggers falling out of trees today just a few ducks .Quick find thanks waimearev.
After dinner at the lodge with the olds, went out for a spot of night-caching... This was most enjoyable in the dark, but glad I didn't wander too far past GZ TFTC
Ahh the lake that we all share in common... Nicely hidden from civalised view. Tftc
Find #5 - Finally found it when the girls had given up and we where heading back. GPS is (as thought) out, so on backtrack went by hints along with descrepancy of previous find (Skating on Thin Ice). Bingo! Just after noon so uplifted coin. Thanks.

Found this in a bit of an unorthodox manner - involving a bit of cross country work. Still, an easy find if you just follow your nose! Great cache - Thanks.
Eventually found this one as we were about to give up, and one of us had found it ages ago!
Good cache name.
Was surprised to find 'Kens creek' filled in as they are logging up here. Kens creek?? oh, something about a mechanic drowning his car in it... ha ha

A lovely little walk on a brisk but clear blue winter’s afternoon. Amazing ice crystal formations just under a thin layer of soil. Will try to post some photos later if they turned out any good.

driving along and stopped 260m away.took cross country version, which turned out to be quicker comming back! At cache, and oh dear, no read the clues before hand. Found in the end,as gps co-ords turned out bang on.thnx
Our Ford had no problem with the ford. The track was hard to follow by torch light. LOL at GZ.

Didn’t see Winnie the Pooh or Tigger, but we saw Rabbit and plenty of his siblings… Mrs YuGeo managed to capture a shot of Christopher ROBIN fluttering around. Nice spot for a cache… Thankfully the rental company upgraded our sedan to a 4x4 at no extra cost.

We were a bit twitchy after an encounter with the rental car and a "judder rock" at another cache today - very low clearance. Got to a ford that was too murky to judge the depth, and with out any gummy boots, decided best not to attempt this one.
Found with Anna, cachehunter007, kache cat and kache rat. Easy find. TNLNSL. T4TC.
Spotted an obvious uncovered rabbit hole near GZ. Hoped that this wasn't at as it was empty. Looked a bit further afield and located cache, no problems. No Tiggers or Heffalumps but plenty of Rabbits. A A Milne quote for today, "They're chainging guards at Buckingham Palace".
Completely missed every possible path or track and ended up going "as the eyore crashes" until I hit a fenced reservoir. Along the fence accompanied by a squawking duck on the other side. Find cache, and therefore the track to get out. Good stuff, thanks.
