We walked to the top of Mt Oberon this morning. The view was spectacular as always. Unfortunately, there was no trace of our cache. As this is a difficult cache to maintain, we have decided to archive it permanently.

Couldn't find it although we found the logical place where it should have been. Looks like it's gone.

15-Apr-08
We will do the big walk this weekend and see if it's there or not.

Beautiful spot, with rainbows and rain showers all around but no joy on finding the cache today. The coordinates led us to a plausible spot along the track but a fairly intense search was unrewarded. Definitely worth a second visit at some point. Thanks for placing a cache in this gorgeous place.

Found at 5.00pm on sunset.
A delightful walk to GZ with stunning scenery.
Watching the sun set was magnificent and a great way to end the day.

Had a great walk up this track. The climb was greater than expected but the views were magnificent. I thought the cache location was a lot further back down, so I nearly missed it. Found in the company of Poodle-Smoodle. When you see a view like this, you feel alive. TFTC

I've been up this mountain a dozen times and each time it's wonderful. This time we were blessed with clear weather at sunset and I got some rather special photos. Log found without a drama, signed.

A beautiful day for a walk in the prom. I left the other half of Team Quasar sunning herself on Norman Beach and started the walk up Mt Oberon. It's about as strenuous as it looks - a long way up. Unfortunately right at the top, there was this bit of cloud sitting on the mountain that wouldn't budge. So there were only glimpses of the fantastic view to the west, but great views to the east. Found the cache no worries, and started the long descent. TNLN. Thanks for the cache Squalid.

Found by Mary & David at 0926 in company with Ian and Penny and Rhinogeo. Staying at the Prom for dj's Event. Ian and Penny gave us a lift to the car park, and we enjoyed the walk from there despite the cool wind and a few spots of rain. Our first cache since returning from overseas, and what spectacular views to commemorate the occasion. Our collection of TBs paid a visit too to mark their arrival 'down under'. Our thanks to squalid.

A fantastically long walk to the top, but the views were well worth the effort.

Found on 08/10/06 @ 0925 AEST returning from the Prom event.with Ian & Penny and David from Maccamob. The walk up was a little bit character building when one had not eaten breakfast yet Red Face, but the sensational views and the cache made it all worthwhile Smile

Found at 13.06 today by OHBEEONE, princess and 2 newbies. Superb views, maybe the clue should say 'Look under it', as that was where we found it. Took nothing, left York key ring. Thanks.

Wandered up here straight after walking to and from Sealers Cove so wandered is probably the correct description. Had a DNF at Sealers so we had to have a win here and we did. The views were fantastic and finding the cache was a bonus. Thanks guys. TNLN

After walking to Sealers cove this morning, we went straight up the hill. Possibly not our best idea, but there was a cache there that had not been done! For a gentle uphill slope, it sure goes up a long way (well, it seemed that way). It was a bit blowy on top, but a fantastic view. "And there's a cache over there, and one over there, etc..." Great tour of the Prom.
Found the cache and we were on the slow slog down, down, down....
Thanks, Robmc.

Found after a night up the nearby Mt Ramsey with lots of lovely scrub bashing. Walking up this hill was a _lot_ quicker. Now the clouds are rolling in and the pleasant weather seems to be turning. TNLN

Picked up the Surfer Girl TB to move to somewhere closer to where she wants to go.

Thanks for the cache.

Found with robmc and chewinprickles. Just as windy as my last visit but it was coming from the other direction. Great views, of course. TNLNSL Thankyou.

Dropped in to check co-ordinates. Thanks Gahpee for the tip.

Note to all ... the co-ordinates for WP1 should now be correct. [B)] Don't quite know what happened the first time Red Face

Found with the help of our muggle friends.
It was 10 in the morning and a beautiful sunny day at Tidal River, but the top of Mt Oberon was shrouded in cloud. Never the less we set off on the hike and were grateful for the cloud/fog because it helped keep the temperature down.
On the walk up it was great to see the regrowth is starting to happen with a nice shade of bright green over the burnt trees. We got to the top in good time and views were fantastic. I think the lingering cloud made it look even more special.
Once at the top we found the trig station without a problem and also noted that we apparently had 200m to go. Unfortunately we hadn't read the previous logs and didn't guess that the datum was wrong so a couple of us carefully walked a little further. When the GPS pointed off a cliff and still said 140m to go we guessed the co-ords were wrong.
The calcs were quickly done and off for an easy find.
Took the bracelet and left a candle.

Found at 2.15pm GAFF2. We have been up here a few times over the past 30 yrs or so, but this time was probably the best as we could see the east valley and coast while walking up - unfortunately due to the devastating fires. A completely still day and when we reached the top we were not dissapointed with crystal clear views that stretched for miles - the best we have seen over the years. We were glad to have read gahpee's log and took note of the corrected co-ords, as we were not too keen to continue 200 metres over the edge of the viewing area. Found the cache in a few minutes and left Surfer Girl Kelly to enjoy the views. The walk back was done in 40 minutes as we needed to catch the shuttle bus before the designated break for the afternoon, overwise we would be waiting for another hour amongst the mean looking March flies. Thanks squalid for bringing us here again.

First to find - a birthday present for Greg today. A slight problem when we got to the top - the gps said still 200M to go although we were on top of a survey marker. Then the penny dropped! the datum must be wrong. We converted the coords to AGD66 and sure enough we were at the right place. Assuming the same datum was used for the second waypoint we headed off down the hill but although we ended up not far off the road there was no cache to be found. Maybe the datum for this waypoint was WGS84? Another conversion then back up the hill and finally success.

The coords for the first waypoint in WGS84 are S39 02.418 E146 20.691

Thanks for all the exercise and the great views.

TNLN Greg and Bev
