The cache is gone, probably carried away by a flood!
We'll consider placing a new one.
In the meantime you may still go and check out the cave, however it can't be logged right now.

Cheers

Another great adventure with the MUAC, but this one didn't have a happy ending.

The dog and I left Waiouru at 1430 on Friday and headed for The Pines. We parked up and headed into Mitre Flats hut at 1800, making it there by 2030. After a quick feed we headed to bed. Woken at 0245 by two other trampers coming in - apparetly they prefer to walk in the dark!

After breakfast we headed up towards Cow Creek, following the track and the trusty 12XL. A final creek crossing close to the cache made it easy to get down to the river bed and the cave was pretty easy to find. After a quick look from the shore with no luck, it was time to nude up and cross over - very cold! (I'd hate to imagine the response if someone had come walking down the river just then!) After a hunt for a while, nothing was found, and I crossed back to the shore again. Clothes back on and as getting ready to leave when I wondered if the container had been buried, and it would have just really bugged me if I didn't have another look. So, time to nude up again and swim back across the river, this time with my walking stick. After 5 or so minutes of digging in the sand, nothing but rock was found, so back across the river again. After drying off, we walked back to Mitre Flats hut, via the riverbed this time - definitely an easier walk!

A quick lunch, then back to the Pines and back to Waiouru, empty-handed unfortunately.

I've sent a picture of where I thought the cache was to MUAC, just to confirm I had the right spot, but it looks to me like a flood may have carried this one away - or the Eels beat me to it!

Edit: After confirming the location with MUAC, permission has been granted to log this one as a find.
