We missed the stairs and came up via the metal rail. Took us a while to locate, the photo helped us narrow down possible hiding spots. Thanks for maintaining this cache in this awesome spot!!

08-Oct-24
Climbed via metal pipe then spotted the stairs. Was rummaging around a while then extended search and spotted TFTC. Found with Crazynumbat.

Loved this, thankyou for the adventure

That took its time to show itself. Although I didnt see the old stairs that led up here until I was at GZ, lovely location, thanks for

Thanks for the cache. Great spot.

03-Jul-22
Despite growing up on the mountain this is the first time I have been out here, except for a scout hike years ago.

What a lovely spot. The dam is looking very full after all the rain with gum trees on the edge half under water.

We wondered what the stone stairs used to be for as they continue up through the fence these days.

Thanks for the cache and the new container.

01-May-22
Was a bit more hidden. Beautiful view.

01-May-22
Great find thankyou

01-May-22
What a beautiful view

This cache has been in need of some TLC since it was burnt in the 2019-20 bushfire. I have replaced it with a new container, so now I (and those who follow) can legitimately log it as a find. I hope the CO doesn't mind. Note there is no mobile reception here, so you need to put the coordinates in your GPS before you leave civilisation.

12-Feb-22
Camouflage or needs some care… awesome find… no service up here is hard

03-Oct-21
No luck

03-Oct-21
Not luck today

15-May-21
Came for a picnic and a look around. I've visited this lookout years ago and it's interesting to see how it's recovering after the bushfires.
Had a brief look for this cache, but wasn't having much luck and the wind was freezing so didn't hang around for too long. Saw lots of potential spots out could be but couldn't see it hiding in any of them. Unlucky. Maybe next time.

27-Mar-21
After the recent deluge we thought we'd take advantage of this beautiful day and have a picnic at Mangrove Dam - somewhere we have never been before even though we live just 50mins away on the CC. Most of the time we had the place to ourselves (which we were pleasantly surprised about), apart from the reptiles lol. Was expecting more water in the dam but obviously we are nowhere near Warragamba.

Oh look there's a cache here. The cache took some time to locate as I wasn't expecting what I found. Only now whilst logging it later do I learn that it has a NM due to being badly damaged by the 2019 fires. Managed to extract the log ok and find a spot on the log to sign. I think this thing has probably had it's day. But TFTC and Jasmer spot anyway, chambos/ Team Yota/ y4dodis.

Well another day trip up to the Central Coast and you just never know where you'll end up!
It was a very dreary day today but despite that our bird watching group found plenty of really unusual birds.
We started at the Letter A at Bucketty then visited spots around Kulnura and Bucketty ending the day here at Mangrove Creek Dam picnic and viewing area.
We were really interested to see how much the bushland had rejuvenated since the fires 12 months ago. It really looks beautifully green and lush up here.
There were no caches that I haven't previously found along our route of travel but on arriving here I realised I hadn't been here before. What a great view!
Even with the mist, technically we were actually up in the clouds, it was a lovely view.

Having never been here I checked the GPS and found this cache only a couple of metres from where I was standing. Well fancy that!
I left the others enjoying the view and began searching. Surprisingly, or maybe not, half a dozen muggles from our group came over and watched me search and find the cache.

OK, it was severely damaged in those bushfires.
Don't know how 2 finders this year could say its in good condition??
The container is really melted. Fortunately although I couldn't get the lid off I could extract part of the log book and write my name.

The container was severely damaged in those major bushfires last year.
It is very badly melted and needs replacing asap.

The lid cannot be removed as its melted on and there's a hole in the side.
Really its remarkable that any of the container survived those fires.

27-Feb-21
This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

Found with the geo-crew during a pre-Easter detour around Kulnura and Mangrove Creek Dam. The look-out guardian was up out of his hidey hole in a flash looking for a feed but didn't get anything from us. All good at GZ. Many thanks chambos

11-Mar-17
Some good picnic facilities here, plenty of picnic tables that's for sure, even in the middle of the carpark. Stopped here for some morning tea overlooking the dam. Cache was located quickly, we had read previous logs although coordinates weren't too bad for us today anyway. TFTC

03-Mar-17
Had a good look at GZ, however nothing to be found. We had no reception so couldn't see the advice from previous finders that the coords are well off. Will come back on another occasion.

06-Nov-16
No problems finding this cache even though a couple of muggles seemed to be quite interested in what we were doing. Tried to be as discreet as we could while signing the log and replacing the cache. Had a picnic lunch there and saw a large goanna wandering around on the hunt for food. Thank you to chambos for putting this cache into play.

19-Oct-16
Found when visiting the area with a local. Previous comments were a great help as co-ordinates are a little out. TFTC

Such a big variety of hides & caches found.

Find #691

After our trip into Yengo to find 'From the Dreamtime' earlier this year, we
decided to explore further south today, so planned a route from home to Broke, then south through Paynes Crossing, Wollombi, Laguna, Bucketty, Kulnura and on to Mangrove Creek Dam. We then had an interesting drive home through Brush Creek Road through Yarramalong, so we now know where our next day out will take us...
Final stats for the day read at 40 finds, 4 DNFs and 280km traveled.

At the dam for the earthcache. This one took a while, and was nearly given up on when spotted. GPS was swirly, and finally settled, but kept pulling us to the other side of the steps, as other finders have commented. Go high people, then left!

Arriving to GZ, there was some people around. I waited for them to leave and freely could explore the area. Quickly find the cache and had all the time to appreciate the landscape! As a company, a Monitor lizard! Actually, I forced our friendship.. I wanted to get a shot of him, but he didn't keep still! Finally, he decided to trust me and made a good pose! Thanks chambos! Beautiful spot!

We had a picnic lunch, gathered the Earthcache details and followed the goannas for a while. The GPS said there was another nearby so I set off to find out where. These steps would now be pointless if it wasn't for this cache. Thanks chambos.

01-Oct-15
TFTC had no reception so took a little longer than expected. This was also between the visiting muggles

07-Sep-15
A day out with the two geokids today exploring the area and finally getting down to check out the dam after a few failed attempts in the past due to bad weather. This took a while to find - GPS had GZ about 8m away from where it was listed. Clue helped with this one - my GPS had it further down the stairs, but once we realised we needed to go all the way up it was a quick find. Kids and I saw a massive goanna lurking around the lunch tables today. He was friendly enough but definitely a big unit! TNLN TFTC

a Lot of People were out and about at Picnic Spots all over the Coast this weekend.
So as we approached GZ I could feel the Eyes on me.
I climbed the stairs and admired the View.
Everyone else turned to look at what I was looking at too. So I turned on my heels and Dove onto this Cache.

I was planning a geo-drive to Mangrove Creek Dam today in order to do some caches in that part of the world. Mumma-Kel, who was going to take her kids out today anyway, decided to tag along and pick up enough caches to get her to her #600 milestone.

We arrived at the Dam to find it quite busy with visitors enjoying the picnic/bbq facilities but they didn't cause us any concern as we wandered off and headed up the hill. As we climbed, I soon saw the likely hidey hole and directed GeoJorjy there, where she was delighted to make the find and then fossick through the treasures it held.

Thanks for the cache chambos, and for bringing me here ... another place it's unlikely I would ever have come here but for geocaching.

16-Apr-15
About 8 months ago I was out here doing the Earthcache for my 300th find, but I hadn't stored this cache into my phone for offline use, and with zero reception with vodapoo down here, I was out of luck then.... This time I returned prepared, with cache stored offline, and The geokids and Opa-Shrek in tow. When we pulled up in the car park, GeoJorjy said "oh, look, stairs" and joyfully skipped ahead of us up them - straight over the fenceline to stand above the 'No Entry' sign

We started early this morning and making a full day of caching around this part of the country side, Had a very successful morning, this is a road we have not travelled before and were delighted with what we seen. wild life, the hides and company. Some of the hides were quite tricky and challenging. Thank you for placing all these caches for our enjoyment.

04-Oct-14
Camped at Wollombi, and headed out to pick up some caches in the area.
We travelled along the winding country roads, with fantastic views.
With a good variety of cache hides, we had a great day out.

GPS didn't settle, so this one took us longer than it should have, to locate.
Took 2 trackables, and left one trackable.
Many thanks for placing this cache, chambos, for us and others to find.

This is the second time ever we have been to the Dam. Wow, it sure looks a lot nicer now than it did a while back. A lot of work been done to make it a beautiful spot to have a barbecue picnic. Lots of muggles here today, so luckily cache located a bit away from prying eyes.

Came in here to do the earth cache, our first one, and was about to leave when we looked at GPS to see where next cache was and it was approx 50m away! DUH!! Talk about being disorganised. So back out of the car, up to the cache making sure we made lots of noise as it was a warm day and certainly a nice day for snakes! Cache soon in hand. The grounds here are supberb! They must be one of the best maintained at a dam and have fantastic views. The peice and quiet was also brilliant. While there we were watched by 2 Lace Monitors about 1m long each. Australian wildlife, got to love it! TFTC

Quite a lot of people around the lookout for a weekday but think it was some car club picnic. Made a detour via the amenities block and quickly ducked up the hill to “check out” the stairs to nowhere… nowhere but a cache Wink
