11-Nov-24
Replaced the cache container and added a new log book. All good to go.

26-Oct-24
I will enable this cache again, but it looks like I will still need to visit next month. Thanks to chudles for finding one of the versions of the cache.

24-Oct-24
Saw that the cache had been disabled since I visited before, but I decided to ride up again. I thought that I should have a second look so I didn't look like a total idiot when the CO inevitably found it SmileThe nook was undeniably empty, so I wandered around just in case some one had thrown it, but couldn't spot it. Turned back to the shed and spotted it on a ledge above the door. Brought it back to earth with a suitably bent stick, and replaced it where it was meant to be. Reading the last maintenance log now though, I may have found an earlier version of it! Cache is now a sistema with a cracked lid.

14-Oct-24
Seems like it has gone missing again. I'll be up that way the second full week of November so will try to replace it then.

10-Oct-24
Rode up from Bright (and down the other way to Porepunkah). Luckily my main aim was the ride and not the cache SmileA very obvious spot based on the hint which was empty. Maybe someone can replace to save Muzza a trip?

29-Jul-24
Seems to be missing.

Thanks again.

From time to time we make the trip up Mt Porepunkah to carry out maintenance on a Community cache. The views from the Fire Tower Rd were pretty special today. The cache is in good condition as well. A lovely autumn day to make the drive.

10-Apr-23
The OSHFAM clan are up here in our shack in Porepunkah. After attending the Mega in Rutherglen on the weekend, the next few days were spent looking for caches around Porepunkah and Buffalo.

I remember having a conversation with the CO at the Mega about Mt Porepunkah. I can't believe I have never driven up here in all the 25 years we've been coming here. Today I decided I would drive up. I had 2 of my kids and a muggle kid with me.

What an amazing view we found up here. The weather was totally beautiful with sun shining, no wind, peace and serenity of nature. We stayed up here a while taking in all the 360 degree views.

We even managed to find the cache.
Cache and log in good condition.

Thank you for the cache here Muzza and for telling me to come up here

Staying in Bright this weekend. Should be able to check/replace soon.

08-Aug-22
Disabling for now, but I am unlikely to be able to get there for at least three months, so may need to archive it unless someone does a throwdown.

07-Aug-22
Came up here for lunch today and was going to grab the cache however it appears to be missing. Had a really good rummage underneath and nothing but smashed glass. May have been looking in the wrong spot.

29-Nov-21
Found it while watching the sun set and BBQ Sausage sizzle

11-Apr-21
Today was day nine of our Beechworth and Bright holiday (take two, post the very disappointing escape from Victoria Covid of 2020).

Today was an easy day - we went for a ride up to Wendi-something, explored the old gold mining area and the Chinese history, then we headed up to Mt Porepunkah in the car for a look around this afternoon.

This was the fourth and final cache for the day - and, just WOW!!

The views up there are incredible - in every single direction. There were black clouds, rain, mist, sunbeams - you name it. What a fantastic place.

Thanks for bringing us up here muzza - its amazing - a fav point for sure

20-Mar-21
Good little drive up here with the two little geocacher sidekicks. I’ve never explored this area before so it was good to have some direction of where to go. There was a lot of smoke cloud about today so not much of a view unfortunately.
Cache is a bit brittle but all safe and sound.

17-Mar-21
Came up here for the GCA cache - the trig, and luckily had the GC map open. Thus I discovered that this cache was up here. I would have felt terrible if I looked at the map later and realised it was here. Met at least 7 cyclists winding their way up - fun??? TFTC muzza. An easy quick find thanks to the hint, but little view thanks to a controlled burn off over near Bright or was it Mount Beauty. SL TNLN

#4213 We were hoping for snow and we weren't disappointed when we got to the summit. The geohounds had a good run around as we completed the find here. No Buffalo in view today however we did get a break in the cloud to see the valley below briefly. The road up is in great condition at the moment. TFTC muzza.

After our adventure with A Long Way to the Top, it was time now for a quick find. Just as we arrived, another car did also, the first we had seen since leaving Bright!
Not an issue, we still managed to find the cache quickly, while they walked their dog. Then is was time for lunch, which we enjoyed while viewing the 360 degree panorama.

Thanks muzza for the hide, and a reason to head to the hills.

01-Apr-18
what an awesome view

Easy find after a nice drive.

05-Jan-18
Drove up this mountain on the twisty but well maintained roadway to check out the views and enjoyed looking around the region's valleys, towns and mountains. The ranger was up in the fire tower but paid us no attention. Found the cache with ease thanks to the hint. There was no log in the cache so we added a piece of paper for a log.
Thanks for this cache, Muzza.

We had wanted to make our way to this cache for a while but we never knew how to get here. So after studying the GPS we thought we would give it a crack. Upon setting off we thought that this trip would not take to long, but we were wrong. Up and up we took the little Mazda 3 until finally we made it. Wow, what a view from up here, wouldn't it just be terrible to have an office upstairs just like this guy has Wink The cache was found quickly and replaced just as quickly so as not to draw attention from both the man upstairs and the 2 motor bike riders you were having a rest. It made me laugh that as they took off one of them asked me if I had locked the hubs on the Mazda before we set off. Thanks for the cache Muzza.

Dianne and I spent the long weekend up near Bright.
After Lunch Dianne and I decided to drive up the hill in my 4x4. We drove up the road from near Porepunkah. This was interesting drive trying to follow the map. The road is driveable in a all wheel drive, but wouldn't try it in a 2 wheel drive.
When we got to the top we walked around and enjoyed the view first, would have loved to see the view from the top of the tower, but alas not possible. Finding the cache was easy enough when we walk around the far side of the building.

Thanks for bringing us up here, we wouldn't have come here we without this cache.

Found with Sharkiefan and FUF009 on our second day of using caching to guide us around the Ovens Valley area. Yesterday we did the HVPowerTrail and today we've been to Mt Buffalo, Myrtleford, Harrietville for dinner and we've been nightcaching our way back to Porepunkah since.

This was not a planned journey, but it turned out to be a fantastic adventure. Initially Chook had been talking about an unloved multi with a nearby trad around the outskirts of Bright, however, as often happens, there were more than one of these combinations, and as we neared Bright Sharkie found another couple of caches matching this description on the online map on the phone. Hmm it was an area none of us had been to before, so we pulled over and studied the map, tried to figure out the topography and decided we would give it a go. Knowing that we would lose phone reception a few kms in, we only had FUF's GPS to guide us.

We climbed and we climbed, and came across various wildlife in our travels - some deer, a wombat, and a rabbit (now dec.) just on the way up..

At GZ, the blood red crescent moon was just above the horizon. By the time we had found the cache it had disappeared entirely. It was pitch black, other than a small set of lights in the far distance, but we could sense that there would be some rather cool views (that everyone raves about in their logs). So this location is definitely on the list to re-visit when we return to the area one day - but in the daylight next time.

We also logged a GCA Trig while we were here.

Thank you Muzza for placing a cache up here and providing us with lots of fun and adventure. We will be back!

13-Mar-16
Found with FUF009 and chooknchunk. A muzza cache! This has been a great trip with caches owner by many friends which is a bit unexpected but awesome! We were out this way doing an unloved multi and ended up here. I found the GCA trig too! It was one hell of a drive but well worth it for the views. We got a bonus as the moon was doing spectacular things and was a fingernail size and went from orange to red before disappearing altogether! A good spot to be at 10.30pm. Tftc

Find # 3047 @ 2230 H

Up in the Alpine Country with sharkiefan and chooknchunk for the long weekend.
Yesterday we went on the Power trail hunt. Today we went for Height, sights and hidden local knowledge.

After caching on the top of Mount Buffalo and turning a number of icons to smilies in Myrtleford, we headed off to Harrietville for a good pub feed and some more caching, all be it by night.

Every now and then we do something mad well, this cache was found while up in the hills getting the Multi cache "Long way to the top"
It was a great drive up and we were greeted with a great glimpse of the Moon. it was orange when we first got here but soon become Blood red just before disappearing behind the hills.

At the last moment, I received time off of work in order to head over to do the High Voltage 101 power trail and spend time 4WDing in the amazing and wonderful Victorian high country Cool
GPS, thewhitedoggang and Princess Consuela were my travelling companions and great company they were, too [^]
All up, over 6 days, 161 caches were found Smile with only 2 DNFs Sad (one of which we later realised was already disabled Red Face )
Also, during our High Voltage experience, I hit my 8,000th cache find Cool

After an interesting drive up (for the newbie 4WDer (me) anyway, we found some amazing views and a cache too Cool
Awesome spot and as today was reasonably low cloud free, this was probably the best view we had all trip [^]

OMG!! THE VIEWS!! Unfortunately for the photographers among us, the sun played hide and seek and did not play fair. We enjoyed the views, but were disappointed with the photo op.

Travelled from SA to do some High Country trails with The White Dog Gang, Princess Consuela and Locus Cache. We all had a great time.

Thanks Muzza for the cache, the laughs and the adventure.

After spending a relaxing afternoon around the caravan paqrk, we enjoyed an early tea.
Mrs one-eyed attends a U3A class of fellow photographers one of whom suggested that she drive to the top of Mt Porepunkah for views and Sunset.
Bonus , there was a cache up here, some 1200m above sea level.
The track up was dirt, narrow, and very very winding, but made it to the top in our 4WD, very scarey.
But views were spectacular.
After a brief walk found the cache.

Find 1353 at 18:17. I was out caching with heardrwt around Bright and we managed to collect 6 caches on this run. It's been quite a few years since I last cached around here so there were a few new ones to get - along with some old ones that I missed last time! This was find number 5 for the day.

Although I've been up to this tower a couple of times since this cache was placed, I never bothered to check for caches in the area. Today was a different story and despite the tower being manned, the hint allowed the cache to be found and replaced quickly enough to not raise any suspicions from above. Thanks for the cache, muzza!

23-Sep-14
Set out for a drive and morning tea at the Emu Farm that geomum decided on, but then driving along the road she decided to take a detour to a Lavender Farm. So we go past, not much to see, and she keeps going. Of course, I'm looking at the phone and notice we're heading towards a couple of caches we need to check off. We stopped to find the waypoint for the nearby 'Long Way to the Top' cache but then drove to this as the mountain was calling. What a stunning view, still some snow on Bogong and Feathertop, great view of Buffalo and clear views towards the Main Range over the border. A wonderful find, thanks for the cache muzza!

Bright and early this morning I set off for the Buffalo View Smile
Morning should be the best time !!
And better still, Tower Dude won't be there yet Wink

Sure 'nuff at the top, the views were ... well um ... awesome Big Grin

The cache was a nice easy find with the clue Red Face

So with the views looked at and the cache found, I was off for a walk to find the other, 'nearby cache' Wink

Oh and don't forget to log the trigpoint on the GCA website while I'm here !! Smile

Done the Dawn Anzac Service this morning, so now ready for a day out and about enjoying the change of autumn colours in the valley. This was a sceinic drive up to a spectacular view, as we tried out our new 4WD. We had visited here earlier, whilst doing a close by cache, so now we are back to do this one. It didn't take the geokids long to get there has on the cache. Thanks muzza for the cache and bringing us up here.

16-Dec-12
Been there a few times but never before with a cache in mind. Its a great spot - a challenge if you come all the way along the Tawonga spur from Tawonga gap, or up from Havilah, a cinch from Porepunkah. Either way you are rewarded with spectacular views from GZ. TFTC!!!

23-Sep-12
Stunning views. We came up via Khancoona South. The drive up was just gorgeous with lovely open, moist forest and a myriad of ferns in the gully. Cache is in good nick. TNLNSL. Thanks for placing a cache here - an excellent location that earns a favourite from us.

Thanks Muzza for bringing up up here for the view. It's not a quick one with 20 minutes drive each way (gee the road winds around a bit doesn't it) but we are so glad we made the effort. A quick, easy find, some refresments and we were soon on our way back down the mountain.

I was working in Bright today, with the company 4WD, and thought it'd be a nice way to spend my lunch break ( normally 30mins) to drive up the hill and have a crack at this cache. Needless to say I discovered that it's a good hour return drive from Bright! This'll be fun to explain to the boss! Very lovely views, and a nice, if hurried, drive. TNLN TFTC

#932 @ 11.25am. Out on a caching day with haveanez, our travelling companions had found this one previously. The GeoPrincess was given the GPSr and after a tiny bit of assistance from Big Ez she was able to zero in on GZ. Fantastic views from here, we grabbed the Trig & Survey Marker whilst here as well. TFTC Muzza, top spot [^]

Took: Purple Frog
Left: Green Gecko Keyring (the GeoKid and GeoPrincess actually caught a little gecko (aptly named "Trevor") whilst we were there & we had to encourage them to let it go)

WOW! What an amazing view & a nice drive to GZ!
Never been right up here before, so we spent the time to take in the spectacular views!
We let GeoKid jump out of the car and find this alone! Read the 'hint' to him & he came up with the hide all by himself!
TOOK: Mini Dog Sticky notes
LEFT: Purple squishy frog!
GeoKid had to put it back aswell! He was very proud of himself! Big Grin (He re-hid it well too)

Many thanks for bringing us up here! Very nice!

Well, the tracks are a bit crappy after the recent rain, the road surface is a bit uneven and it's washed down to the bedrock in a lot of places.

I drove up from Kancoona, down the other side to Porpunka, back up the hill after lunch in Bright, and down through Havilah, and I did it in... wait for it... in a fking HOLDEN BARINA!!

Great fun in a tiny car!!
