Hmmmmm.

I picked up a hire car at the airport at night, then headed for this one. I looked around for a while with my torch but had to leave empty handed. Only now that I am back in Melbourne do I find that it had already been archived. C'est la vie.

25-Jan-07
Can't post a DNF on a cache that isn't there! Big Grin I was at the airport with time to kill, so came to grab a cache or two.
I didn't look very hard, didn't want to go into the garden, and felt like I'd be spotted for sure. I'd have to agree with fehrgo, glad you're considering relocating. Smile

11-Jan-07
Cache has been retrieved from the Australian Federal Police.

The Cache is ok - I have met with the Federal Police and they laughed and said that they enjoyed learning about the sport of Geocaching and indicated that they were just following instructions but that they were quite happy with the cache and saw no problems with it at all.

Negotiations have commenced for the cache to be relocated at the airport with official Federal Police and Airport sanction.

In the mean time I will ensure the TB's are either kept safely or passed on to a nearby cache..

If you wish to add your voice of support to the request for Bug X-change Brisbane cache (and potentially other caches)to remain at the Brisbane airport and be officially sanctioned/endorsed please send us an email stating your support and the value that this cache offers to those wishing to transport travel bugs intra/inter state and internationally.

Thanks

For anybody wanting to know the whereabouts of this cache, its with the Australian Federal Police at Brisbane Airport. I will contact the owner regarding picking it up.

The cache was placed on Airport Property (The General Aviation Area) without permission and, being an ammunition box, has caused some concern to various entities.

07-Jan-07
Due to some recent concerns of some as to the whereabouts of the cache and the public comments by a seemingly disgruntled cacher who still cannot find cache despite others finding it and maintenance checks being done; I am temporarily disabling the cache until I confirm its location and the on-going suitability of the location due to drought conditions and heavy footed cachers.

I am negotiating re the relocation of the cache elsewhere in the immediate vicinity...?

"fehrgo" if you have any more cantankerous comments to make about this cache please do this friendly community a favour and communicate them directly to me first before you publicly cast seemingly unfoundered and disgruntled assertions - Thank you.

I apologise for any inconvenience whilst this cache is Temporarily Disabled.

Cache is poorly located for the volume of activity that it receives, and encourages poor caching etiquette due to placement inside the gardens. I'm not blaming the cache owners, as this was most likely not anticipated. Read numerous logs about damage to the gardens caused by this cache. Additionally, the cache seems to move around within the gardens, encouraging further damage. Currently it also seems to be AWOL. I'm biting the bullet and saying that something really needs to be done about this cache.

For those wishing to use local caches as an airport TB motel, Smithy is better located and currently constitutes less of a potential security threat to the airport, at least until the new runway is built.

[Searched for 20 minutes no luck in finding AMMO box under tree.]

03-Jan-07
[After 15-20 min search didn't find it, disapointed]

02-Jan-07
we looked and looked to no avail with triangulation ... if this is an easy find, I might advise a maintenance check of the area ... the bushes have been trampled significantly and the area appeared to be cache free.

But then again maybe we were in the wrong area? If this is the case ... well done.

28-Dec-06
We searched and searched but to no avail. Its probably still there, its just our inability to see it! Shame though, as we had some bugs that needed dropping off before our flight back to NZ, luckily we found another nearby cache that would take them.

27-Dec-06
Great idea for a cache and real handy for me as I do a lot of travelling. Dropped off Barney Bulldog TB and took Magically Delicious TB before heading out to Cairns

25-Dec-06
[Very easy find, on way to Melbourne. T TB Police and L TB Magical Dellious, peg, $500.00 poker chip, mini deck of cards, frog and a bar of soap. Great cache for quick finding whilst waiting for flights]

Had a bit of a search but came up with goods.

Drop of Best Friends TB for The Green Team 2 today. I really like the Geo Path!.

Have a good trip guys. Say hello to the hobbits for me.

19-Dec-06
Finally clearered this one off my to do list while dropping off an early morning travellor. TFTC

With the garden condition deteriorating and the clear geotrack I was able to easily locate what had eluded me on a previous visit.

Unfortunately this is a demonstration of what geocachers should not do to a site.

What, we didn't bring the co-ordinates for this cache along with us! Fortunately we had an idea of the locality of the cache and there is no harm in doing a reconnoitre. We just followed our nose and found the cache.

13-Dec-06
Easy find after a good walk from the domestic.
Took Jake's Toronto 06 Geocoin to Townsville.

27-Nov-06
My friend and I were a bit uncomfortable when looking for the cache as there was driver staring at us parking on the road. Relieved to see him gone. I like the cache box although a bit hard to open it. Wow three travel bugs! I took one. Hope it will enjoy travelling with me! Thanks.

26-Nov-06
Dropped of findus and Police TB. Police TB not in my list? Can next cacher please log as I didnt write down the number.

26-Nov-06
Found the number for Police TB

17-Nov-06
T & a taxi full of muggles found this cache on their way out of Brisbane. The taxi driver was very understanding but a bit of a smartass. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to get the damn ammo case open.
t: damaged goods tb
l: Lest we forget tb
TFTC Brisbane
PS sorry I forgot to write in the travel bug log.

10-Nov-06
Picked up the travelling photo album. Thanks TheWrightFamily

Touched down at BNE this morning, and came straight here to snaffle the Geocoin and to drop off a couple of TBs and a non-trackable Geocoin.

IN: Traveling Photo Book TB, Lil'l Ling Ling TB, damaged goods -( stitch) TB, and Vacman Geocoin
OUT: The Stifmeister Geocoin

Found at 12.30pm with fiancee. A nice easy cache. A few muggles around, just airport workers though. TNLN.

28-Oct-06
I'd organised with Bindy & Homer to meet them here to find this cache. I've been here several times in search of it, but always seemed wary of the Security Patrols. As I'd arrived first, I had another quick look around with no luck, it wasnt until Bindy was just about to reach down and grab the cache that I spotted it, and couldnt believe that I'd missed it earlier.....Discovered the "Wish you were here" Geocoin

Found this morning. Cache was quite exposed initially and only hidden by its camouflage colours as the vegetation had died back in some areas. I replaced it under a fresher part of the vegetation. Picked up Carry Boy TB and Sailor TB for a trip up to Cairns. Left my sons "Going Travelling" Geocoin, for its first release out into the real world.
SL Thanks for the cache.

23-Oct-06
Searched and searched for this one despite the co-ords being spot on. The cache was probably too obvious!

Left Captain Weymouth TB and picked up an untagged bottle opener that wants to travel to London.

19-Oct-06
Found 10:10 met fellow geocacher but forgot to write down his name... will watch logs to remember. Took TB Send me Selma TFTC.

Just a thought: Put two big, well labelled, plastic bags in the Cache. One for _FLOWN IN_ and one for _TO FLY OUT_. TBs are place in one or the other. It really helps when you don't have all the info on the TBs at hand and you want to grab the right ones travelling in the right direction. Easy for dropping off too.

18-Oct-06
Met a fellow Cache seeker while looking for this one and between the two of us we found it. I took a travel bug 595541 Grumpy Gus and left a Beerwah Camping key ring with my card.

18-Oct-06
Was dropped in here by SAMY!

18-Oct-06
Looks like there were a load of us seeking this cache in the last few days... for me it was a case of too many places to look, too many muggles, and too little time... hopefully I'll be back up this way again to have another go.

17-Oct-06
We found this cache today after brief search.
Picked up geocoin and dropped off Grumpy Gus TB.
TFTC

Dropped in before flight back home. Dropped Larry Boy and EMIGRATE Coin that I brought with me to tour a bit more of Australia. TFTC

23-Sep-06
Quick Find, did get attacked by a bird while filling out the log. Sorry no travel bugs to drop off this time.
TNLN

17-Sep-06
Found in the usual way for Steve & family - Geokid tripped over it!

Had planned to drop the Hummer TB in, but it doesn't fit, so we will have to find a different new home for it.

No swaps, TFTC

15-Sep-06
Dropped in on the way to Melbourne to grab a few bugs... it's empty now! Will fill it up again when we get home.

07-Sep-06
This is the second unsuccessful attempt of ours to find this one. Perhaps someone could leave more detail about the location in their log, since this one is supposed to be a quick in 'n out, unlike the difficulty 3 down the road that I found in about 20 seconds.

03-Sep-06
Also looked for about 20 or so minutes but came up empty handed. Was hoping to pick up a bug or two and let them continue there journey in Aust. Cheers, azucar...

26-Aug-06
Poked around for over 20 min before the security guards pulled up and disturbed my search. Hope it hasn't gone MIA.

ruzzelz Sad

13-Aug-06
Had a bit of trouble with this with the nearby van cleaning muggle - will try again some other time when it is less busy

07-Aug-06
This was my first stop after getting off the plane from Melbourne. Surprisingly, it took me a while to find it, despite having found it previously. Anyhow, I found it again at 1000, and I put in three TBs and took out three TBs and the Geocoin. Thanks to TheWrightFamily for the cache.

IN: ...It's Good for You TB, Smiley TB, and Soccer Cat TB
OUT: Curious George TB, Sandal TB, Little Green Dragon TB, and T's Coin Geocoin

03-Aug-06
Grabbed Jackalope, forgot Sandal (sorry Moosiegirl), Dropped Oshkosh Cow TB

26-Jul-06
Could some kind compassionate soul PLEASE take Moosiegirl's Jackalope and the Sandal TB out of this cache, and place them where they might get a bit of action? They have long ago lost the bug race they were in, but I'm sure they would love to see the inside of a different container somewhere.

Thanks, and Happy Trails!!

Nice easy find for Mumma NANKS as Dadda NANKS waited in the car. We didn't take any bugs as we didn't know which ones had just arrived in town and which ones were wanting to get out of Brisbane!! Twisted

Maybe they need seperate compartments???

SL TNLN TFTC Big Grin

22-Jul-06
A nice easy find. left TB as you do TFTC.

16-Jul-06
Second go at this one - and after a good 'girls' look, the cache was in hand.

Left: Dragon TB, Shelldrake TB and Curious George TB

Took: Simon Says TB

09-Jul-06
Well we had finished caching for the day but driving past here on the way home - who could pass up the opportunity. After missing this last time I really thought that it must have been muggled, but there it was - and it took less than 2 minutes to find it today.

Regarding the discussion about destoying the garden - can I suggest that if you don't want the garden destroyed then place the cache on the edge of the garden & tell people that they can reach it without going in - it could be hidden quite adequately along the edge. But as it is now people MUST go in the garden to retrieve it, its only going to be a matter of time before the garden is destroyed again as its not like people can just walk straight up to it.

TFTC... nice idea having a travel bug motel out here.

05-Jul-06
Our 2nd for the day. What a bad time of the year to be in this part of town. 7yr Old Geo kid found this one.
In 2 Glow Sticks and pencils.

Out Geo Coin & Baseball man TB

Cheers

Holiday trek on a stop-over with Fore!.

I love the airport caches...make it so easy to move bugs and a nice distraction on long delays.

A pleasant walk and a turnaround of about 40mins or so to trek out and back.

TNLN (see Fore!s log)

Fun Big Grin

Visited this one on a 4 hour delayed flight from Canberra to Hamilton Island with Shadow. Isn't caching simply the best way to kill some time? As I mulled over the change in temperature from -6 degrees C in the ACT morning to the balmy 21 degrees C of the airport, the world was definitely looking brighter!

We wove our way around the airport... surely we didn't look suspicious!!! Found the ammo box and dodged the muggles!

TFTC - dropped off a Florida Geocoin, and collected Nolan's Neopet whose mission it was to go to exotic locations. I figured Hamilton Island might just qualify!.

30-Jun-06
No luck today. Searched and searched and searched.

18-Jun-06
Thanks to the recent re-discovery of the cache again on June 16 by snoosnoo - I did another cache check and all is OK!

This cache may have been temporarily removed or relocated ?

Either way it is back in it's rightful position!

I am very happy to report that it is in tact and in good condition at the coordinates of the original location Smile

PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF THE NEED TO RESPECT THE NATURAL SURROUNDS OF THE AREA.

16-Jun-06
Found this morning at 0615 has been buried in the ground somewhat, only located it because i heard the familar sound of an ammo tin been stood on. Co-ords where spot on. Took a TB.

06-Mar-06
I have been to the GZ 3 times scouting for the Cache container and still no luck...

I guess it is missing with at least 6 known TB’s inside.

It would be pretty same to say that it was probably muggles.

I have reason to believe that it is not missing because of any official decision or interference…

As for the area around GZ – it is a total disgrace and I am appalled and disgusted at the complete lack of respect for the environment and the way in which the gardens have been totally destroyed and trodden into oblivion.

The exact GZ spot was once completely covered by undergrowth but now lays completely exposed and baron.

Shame on the persons who are responsible for the damage that has probably led to the ultimate disappearance of this cache and it’s contents.

Sorry to the folks who previously visited this cache and respected it and to those who had TB’s inside.

Short of locating the original cache container (it is highly identified on the outside), this will be the sad end of this cache location.

22-Feb-06
Im not too sure if im just blind but i couldnt see this cache anywhere after spending half an hour searching. i will try to get back and have another look for it, thought though that a green ammo case, at an airport, hidden in the garden possibly isnt a good thing and maybe it was found a dn treated suspicially????

14-Feb-06
10.37am

Oh yes...see what you mean about the garden being trampled Sad

Nice easy find. Thanks

I have received an email from the owner of one of the Texas TBs I picked up yesterday. It seems that the race is over, so getting back to Austen is probbaly no longer a priority. That owner said he would alter the TB's web page.

It's probably fair to say that these TBs can now be considered fair game for moving to other caches. However, perhaps it would be a good idea to contact the owners before doing so.

Last of five cache finds on the way to the airport. Actually, this time I was at the airport. I had come to Brisbane with ten Travel Bugs, and I was determined to leave them here. I had stopped by the "GES Travel Bug Motel" on the way here and dropped off seven of them. I dropped the other three here in exchange for four others.

I tossed up about what to do about the Austin, TX bugs. Taking them to Melbourne might seem to be taking them further from their goal, however, I wonder if they might actually have a better chance of attaining their goal in Melbourne. I grabbed just two of the Austin TBs. Time will tell, I suppose as to whether they reach TX before the others or not.

I logged the cache at 1615. Thanks to TheWrightFamily for the cache.

IN: Three TBs
OUT: Four TBs

04-Feb-06
23:39hrs The area looks pretty trampled was the first thing I noticed and as we continued to loo for it stood on it we did. Took a few bugs out as the Witch is off to Melbourne this week.

28-Jan-06
I decided that today was the day to visit this cache as like previous logs suggest Saturday arvo is nice and quiet out this way. Most muggles are heading for the viewing area at the end of the road to watch the planes land and pay little attention to anyone hanging around. Dropped in Tubs Topper TB. Nice cache and very close to work [^]

26-Jan-06
Took the Geokids for the finding of our cache (they weren't with us when we placed this one)...

Great to see some TB's moving - Took HISSSSS and will drop him somewhere outside Brisbane area very soon.

21-Jan-06
thanks for the cache TheWrightFamily great hide The Mackies . TNLN

15-Jan-06
Last find for the day. Had a couple of bugs that need to get out of the country so this is the spot to be.

Great spot down here and nighttime certainly makes it easier although some of the passing vehicles like to check you out.

Left Badd Azz Mutha and HISSSSSS for the next stage of their journey's.

TFTC!

Found as the last thing before I left Brisbane for return trip to New Zealand... Business kept me from hunting lots of caches in Aus but wanted to drop Cecil B here before I went home.
didn't have map of local area so ended up walking a kilometer from domestic terminal!!! and the heat!!! lol..
found easily enough and dropped in TB Cecil B der Celery.
Cache was loaded with TB's so took 3 that didn't have obvious missions onboard and bought them back to New Zealand. Will place them once I have found out their mission.

Cheers Clive
(will be glad to get back to cool New Zealand and Xena)

11-Jan-06
Sorry I just had to have the ‘Compass Rose Geocoin’ TB in my kick just once before it moves too far.
I will get it to a nice place. Soon.

Cheers,
Brummy

09-Jan-06
Looks like I am following Deco around.

Dropped by here on my way home to check out the new cache for TBs.

Dropped off "Deco's Compass Rose" Geocoin looking to travel to all points of the Compass. Thought this was the logical place to drop him off on his journey.

Easy to find and parking in the back corner of the General Aviation Car Park provides some cover to assist in stealth.

TFTC (Great Idea for TB's looking for a ride)

To get things started we have placed 10 TB's in the cache:

* Moosie's Jackalope
* Tony's Pony
* Texas Luggage Not Lost
* Bawls
* More Cowbell Please!
* Sandal
* McGwire TB
* Kayla's Homeless Cross
* Texas Boot
* Juan the TB

These 10 are seeking a ride back to Austin Texas...

Found with Deco. I'm glad that we found it late on a Sunday afternoon. I don't think there would be too many other times that the area would be muggle free. As we have no plans to travel to the states we did not take any of the Travel bugs but did leave Singapore Sling in the hope that it can get a lift to Singapore.

FTF with Crew153.

Wow there are some bugs in there!!! Alot of stealth will be required most of the time!!!
