On a lunch break in Taumarunui. First cache i have looked for this year. My caching sense must need retuning. Believe i found the right tree and it even had a good cavity for a regular sized cache but alas it eluded me.

A quick weekend road trip from Maramarua to Taumaranui and then on to Rotorua. We arrived at the camping ground today, had a swim in the river and got to work finding this cache. Searched a few spots without luck before checking the images. The tree in the uploaded image was instantly recognisable and a quick find was made. Log book in good condition. Cache is just a plastic bag with contents but seems to be holding up well. Thanks for a lovely walk in the forest.

What a hidden surprise! Loved this bush walk! Located cache but log was too wet to sign (have taken a photo of cache if CO needs evidence). Thanks for bringing me here, a great leg stretching a long drive.

We are heading home from Palmerston North to Tauranga but taking a "slight detour. Weve never been here before and really enjoyed the walk. The sun even graced us with it's presence. There are some beautiful old kaihikatea trees in this reserve. As others have mentioned, this cache needs attention. Unfortunately we had nothing suitable with us. There is no container and the log is mush. Worthwhile keeping this cache going though. Thanks for bringing us here

26-Jul-22
Found out in the open bag unzipped, along with being very the log is one step away from pulp..sadly this cache requires some TLCreplaced in hole at base of the wonderful specimen..tftc Arkwright and nice little walk to GZ

24-Jul-22
Our very first find! Took us longer than I thought because we were looking in the wrong place lol.
I saw it on our way out thinking it was rubbish, but sadly it wasn’t actually hidden and the log book was left outside of the bag Sad I did manage to write a faint “J&E” and placed everything back in the bag.
Thanks for the Cache! It’s been a long time since I’ve been through that walkway Smile

Mr P was on a mission to complete his bike ride from Cape Reinga to Bluff - this sector to Wellington, so what does a good wife do but fill in time by geocaching. Wow, this one is old. Thanks for keeping it active.

Nice easy find. But all wet inside. Someone had put leaves in. So couldn’t write in the book

Last cache of the day and was happy for a quick woodland stroll after being sat in the car for a little while. Nice easy find after checking a couple of possible options.

Today's the last day of us living in Auckland having taking possession of our new home in Rangitikei on Friday after a few weeks of will we/won't we. I headed up from our home on Sunday morning and had the remains of the day to clean the rental a little bit more before handover today. Was back there this morning for a quick last hour and all was well and I was on the road just after 10. I had a few possible targets as I transited South and a pleasing haul of 18 caches and back home in good time. I grabbed a few in Huntley then pushed on through to Piopio for the FP hungry 'Giant' caches there and the weather was great as was the scenery. It was a good day today, thanks to all COs for their efforts.

Team SEAC had decided a few months ago to attempt the Tongariro Crossing. Not JUST because there were caches here but to get us all out and about.

Yesterday we Conquered the crossing. Today was dedicated to caching in the National Park and surrounding area.

All logs signed with Team SEAC to save log paper.

TFTC

27-Feb-21
Mr HeMaLuDy and Purply completed the Tongariro Crossing yesterday as part of a group from Team SEAC. Unfortunately Mrs. HeMaLuDy and Darthcacher1 were unable to do the crossing but plan on attempting it at a later date. Today was booked as a reserve day but luckily was not needed. So instead the members of the group went in several directions. Six of us decided to go caching to stretch our legs so we began with the local caches then headed north from National Park. Found using the hint as there was a little difference between GPS's. Pleasant spot to visit. There was a very vocal Fantail who greeted us as we got to GZ. Signed Team SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC

27-Feb-21
After a full day hiking the Tongariro Crossing, I left the rest of the team and made my way to New Plymouth. I tried using the updated coords, but ended up across the main highway. I went back to the old coords and found the cache with no problem. TFTC.

27-Feb-21
A few of the Team SEAC crew were in town to complete the Tongariro Alpine crossing which we successfully managed yesterday - woop woop. The plan for today was to get out and stretch a little and of course find some caches.

What a lovely little walk here.

Found about 10m off from my GPS coordinates but pretty spot on with Mr Stik-a-Crane...a little odd but that didn't bother us as its another smile on our map.

Thanks for the cache.

27-Feb-21
In town with my good friends from Team Seac to do the Tongariro Crossing. We did the crossing on the Friday, so to relax the following day we went caching of course. So we explored the local areas. Sorry for generic logs. Log was signed Team Seac or Seac to save room on the logs.

27-Feb-21
The day after our group from Auckland had completed the Tongariro Crossing, and were on a bit of a high, decided to take a look around the area at some local caches, not knowing local would extend to Taumarunui....needed to be back in National Park to sort out food for dinner, so off we went....

Signed in as SEAC to save log book space...

TFTC.

Thanks Arkwright for the cache. It’s #1400 for us. We found your cache on 16 February 2021. Not as close to GZ as I would have hoped. Took a bit of expanding the search area together with the hint and we found it. Nice hide.

Day 6 of a road trip with Saethwr around the lower North Island. Caching not a priority, but we will get a few.
Waitomo to somewhere south.
Decided that is was it for the day. Too much we wanted to see further south, so made the decision to stop in Taumaranui, do some washing, visit thd lavender farm a little bit down the Forgotten Highway.
Took a walk this evening to get this cache, then got disorientated and ended up further along the river in the wrong direction.

Thanks for the smilie Arkwright.

Straightforward find on a wonderful still morning! Took nothing, left nothing. Thanks for hiding this for us!

04-Nov-20
I chose this cache as a good one to search for as it would provide the length of walk that I was looking for to stretch my legs on a break during a long drive home. It wasn't exactly an instant find but I got there soon enough.

25-Oct-20
Mr rattll wanted to stretch the legs and have a break from driver so today was finally the time to stop and pick up this one.
As it was fairly late in the evening, there were no muggles about.
Nice straight forward find at GZ.
We left a pet rock - a big fish.
Thanks for putting this here for us to find.

07-Oct-20
Heading south after visiting family, collecting caches along the way. Nice place to park up and stretch the legs. Nice hide. Cache all fine. Thanks

11-Sep-20
On my way to Hamilton for the weekend for a daffodil show. Thanks Arkwright for the cache.

Very well done

28-Aug-20
We decided to head away for a few days in the camper and do some geocaching. One of our aims was to travel the Forgotten World Highway. After overnighting at the NZMCA park south of Taumaranui we head north to clean up the caches around the area. This was the first stop and Mr S went for this while Mrs S babysat the camper. Fabulous trees here and this was a particularly fine straight specimen. Elsewhere the trees were festooned with lots of lichen.

Thanks Arkwright.

Foolishly I thought this would be a fairly simple roadside grab, so I left the GPSr on the seat, grabbed my phone and headed off from the carpark. I managed to get within a couple of metres of the posted GZ, but could not locate the cache. I saw the note about new coordinates but, without the GPS, I had no idea in which direction it had moved. I ended up spending far too long here (mostly being followed and entertained by a very curious and brave pīwakawaka) before deciding I had blundered my way through enough hook grass and spiderwebs for one day and left emptyhanded. Will have to save this one for another day.

Scouting out Taumaranui before heading south today. Another great park with bush walks and lovely huge trees to discover. Gave Grandma Kahikatea a hug while we were here. Left our calling card here. Cheers. Fav from me.

Day 17 - Sunday 29 December. Taumaranui through to Hawera today. So lets go!!

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

29-Dec-19
I have lost my notebook! Sad When I go on a geotrip I record my finds and notes in a log book or, in the case of this big circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki that Taybeedragon and I did over Christmas, in three notebooks. And I have lost notebook number 3 - 29th December onward. Luckily I enter the caches as found on the GPS (helps with avoiding backtracking) so I am using my GPS log to identify which caches I found/DNFed. Alas, however, no cache notes. So it is now March - and I am relying on memory. A fickle thing, memory. I suspect most will have no notes above. Sorry, folks.

10-Nov-19
Found it after a short walk. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Hamburg Germany

I thoroughly enjoyed the walk to GZ - thanks for bringing me here! My gps can either be really good under canopy or can be not so good (putting it nicely ). Unfortunately today the gps was a bit all over the show so had to poke and prod a few places before coming up trumps.

Well I would have driven past this place and never known its here. Great spot. Nice easy walk around. Lots of little tracks. Grab tb and left one. Tftc

06-Mar-19
Continuing on our tiki tour.
Making our way up towards Taupo. Stopped by here and grabbed the two in the area.
This had us confused initially as the cache page mentioned new cache coords which when input where on the other side of the railway line. We read other logs and no one mentions this issue, read back to the CO log in 2018 and same thing there, but the description said only 10m from original coords.
We went with the original and cache found quickly.
TBs left
CO possibly needs to amend cache page as it was confusing

#6385. I am on my way to Auckland on a road trip. The family decided to go north by train to take in the scenery. That means I have 2 days to get there and no complaints when I stop for caches. Life is sweet. Stayed overnight at Taumarunui and now picking up local caches before heading north. Enjoyed the bush walk here. What a lovely stand of kahikatea forest. Some pretty big forest giants amongst them. Took the long route to the cache. However the hiding spot was soon guessed and quickly had cache in hand. Great to get another 2006 cache. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Walked back by the shorter more central path. Thanks Arkwright for hiding the cache here.

Nice place to stretch the legs and find a cache. Tftc

Tftc! Tnlnsl. Cache in good condition. TA hiker here, staying at the holiday park and thought I'd detour a bit to grab this. Nice spot Smile

A very nice find. We spent the night at the campground and enjoyed the short walk around the track in the evening sunshine.
Thanks very much for the cache.

Out this way doing the Forgotten World Adventure railcart tour. Spent a rather great weekend clicking along 142km of rail track in a golf cart from Okahukura over to Stratford at 20km/hr. Weather was off and on again, but did not damper the experience. Amazing way to see this area and get into reaches that you’d not normally expect to see. I came back from Stratford on the Sunday night and though since I was staying an extra night in Taumarunui and I was still a bit damp from the weekend adventure, I would pop over to this park for a quick find. Really easy to locate and a wonderful block of bush. Very impressed by some of the larger native trees in here. An easy find and very nice and dry. Thanks for the cache and for bringing me here.

25-Sep-18
nice place to walk the dog.

Dry cache in an excellent mature native forest. Really enjoyed my walk. Found a different track to return to the car making a nice circuit.

05-Feb-18
We decided to leave home at lunch time and head to the famour Timber Trail and stay a few nights at PiraPira campsite what a lovely spot, we did one half of the ride on Saturday and then did some of the other on Sunday. the just relaxed and enjoyed refreshments and good conversation with our friends. Then unfortunately it was time to move on so off to the national Park area. We were going to stop here on the way to the Timber Trail but time was against us so on our return we got the chance to stop here, I got to go get the cache while Mr Watcache was at the dump station so I and 2 bullbars headed off into the bush track it was starting to spit/rain so we quickly found the cache signed the log and placed the cache back exactly where we found it then rushed off back to the car trying not to get too wet, by the time we reached the car the rain had stopped. It is a lovely bush walk thank you for making us stop and doing the walk without the cache we would of never known it was here. TFTC
