I tried... for AGES... but no luck. There are so many places it could be and without a clear hint it just wasn't possible for me. I came away with holes in my jacket from the spikey plants instead of a smiley
Replaced container with a large peanut butter jar containing a waterproof log inside a smaller pill container as both existing containers were not watertight and ine had succumbed to the UV.This is a great spot for a cache and it would be a shame to see it archived.
Found it. Outer container is broken in many places, was filled with water and had a dead wetta in it. Inner container was intact and dry
We had a Easter Saturday walk up to the Trig. Easy find with the small ones. Bring a jacket. It gets windy!
Greetings from BC, Canada.
We are a family of 5 on vacation in New Zealand. Cachers in the family include BeesKnees34, SOB_4M, AlexBN16 and me. We have been enjoying the beautiful landscape and visiting some awesome locations.
Stopping along the way to grab some cool caches. We targeted high favourite, old caches, different cache types and some other caches along our routes.
Thanks to all the cache owners for creating, placing and maintaining these great geocaches!
After a bit of searching we found this one. Good to get this one.
Thanks Murth for the fun cache!

Stumbled on the right spot while my son was taking a nature wizz! We'd been out of reception so glad we could find a few on the tops. Tftc!
Cool misty day up here today! Live the triple containers! Well protected from the elements.
Talking to a mate (the Seagnoid) a few days ago, and he tells me that he 's looking to head up to Belmont Trig on Thursday (today). Great, that sounds worthwhile, can I come along?
And so a plan was hatched to head over to the track after work, which would also give me a chance to have another crack at a nearby cache that I had previously DNF'd.
It's a bit of a slog to get to the Trig, but not majorly. I'm used to walking up Kohitere Trig near Levin which is not dis-similar to this climb. Fantastic views to be had up here. We were blessed with no wind which really made being here a pleasure.
Once signed, it was all put back as found, and we were back on our way again.
Thanks for the cache.

Today is a day that I need four caches and a size "other" So I suggested to TwigNZ that we climb to Belmont Trig. Started after work and were still back before dark. Despite spending ages looking for that "other" and not finding it - but at least we got the four caches .
I crawled through the bush while Twig took the easy route around and found the cache. Alas the lid is shattered, but the log was triple containered so was in good nick. I added a pathtag for the next person. Photos! Despite the shattered lid, this gets a fav.

Last time I looked for this cache it was 8 sept 2013! My old age means I didn't remember where. Found a decoy cache before the real one. Found with roving medic
Found this one after a night march with a group oc ladies training for a Spirited Women event. Great vies of ghd city lights. Grabbed the travel bug.
Thrilled to find this one - puffed my way up Takapu Ridge
As mentioned already, lid cracked but all fine inside as last finder had placed it back upside down. Have left a trackable and will log this once back home later today. Lovely patches of dense bush here - makes you wonder what it once was like ... Many thanks

No luck today as has to keep moving to meet deadlines. Realize now we were very close to it - bother. Thanks for the placement.
Found while doing the Belmont Trig loop with a friend on a beautiful spring day. By the time we got to the trig, the clouds were rolling in so we didn’t stay long but made this find before moving along. Outer container has a crack in the lid so some water had pooled and the second container also had some water in it. The inner container was damp however the logbook was fine. TFTC. Will be back to find the rest of the caches up here. Hadn’t saved them offline and my GPS was giving me jip.
Wonderful to find such an old vintage of cache. It was a perfect calm sunny day up here (jackpot) and it didn't take too long to locate the cache after poking around for a while. Was a bit wet in the main container, which I emptied out, but the log was dry in its other container. TFTC, fav point for ageing so well.
I have had my eye on the trig for some time so it was pleasing to make it here today. I was surprised to see the amount of attractive greenery at the top in what must be a very exposed site at times. It was very pleasant when we were there which made searching for the cache less of an effort and I was soon rewarded with a plasticy thunk on probing with my walking pole. TFTC
Found where it should have been - nice spot in the ferns but no sight of the cache and too tired to search for ages
Quick find where all good at GZ. God climb - pretty windy today. Thanks for another smilie.
Never been up to Belmont trig before although I have visited other parts of the park. Great view from up here. Before I left home I was expecting it to be very cold and possibly rainy but actually it was very still and quite warm. Met a lady (and her baby) at the trig and another couple of other walkers arrived from a different direction, so there were five of us at the trig. After a snack and a chat and some photos the others left and I could have a look for the cache. Found quickly thanks to the accurate coordinates. Lots of layers of protection around the log book, no issues with water today, TFTC
Sadly I forgot to bring spare batteries for my GPS especially as I knew the batteries were low. Fortunately the batteries lasted just long enough for me to get a rough location, then it was a case of figuring out where someone would choose to hide a geocache. Found it but the outer large container was half full of water. The inner container was just slightly damp but okay. Logged my find and returned geocache to where I found it. Thought large outer container may have been sucking in water with changes of temperature and air pressure. Maybe it needs a small breathing hole. Decided to place large outer container upside down with lid on bottom. If water can get in then hopefully it can also get out. Thanks for the find on a good day but cool up there.
An early morning start to head up to get this one that I've had my eye on ever since I started geocaching, as it's so close to home. I've been up here a couple of times, but not for several years. This was my target for this morning, and needed to be my first find as it was the right D/T combination to complete my 1`00/100 challenge.
Parked at Stratton Street and started my way up. The peak was clouded over as I started, but as I headed up the skies cleared and I was able to actually see the trig. Finally arrived at the junction and was a little confused by the planks boarded over what was the original track, but because there wasn't any signage and there was still a style post I headed over. I found the other end with the fence and realised that that stretch of track is now closed - oh well.
Made it up to the trig where the wind finally hit, but the views were awesome - the South Island was really clear. I took some photos and recorded the extra information I needed for the Welly Climbs cache, and then it was on to hunting for the cache. There appeared to be a bit of a geotrail heading away and as I got closer started hunting and soon found the cache. The outer was completely full of water but the inner layers were still nice and dry. Dropped off a discoverable wooden geocoin and replaced. TFTC+Fav

I found that more triggy (tricky) than it should have been because I didn't take enough notice of my instrument But finally I looked properly and then found it quickly Outermost container had water in it but cache all dry inside the inner protection TFTC
Cache # 4,109 - The weather was supposed to be fine, but it didn't eventuate in time for our early morning hike up. I have planned to do this since 2015, when I was FTF ont he nearby Welly Climbs Belmont, but was not able to get to the top that day (due to time pressures) and therefore couldn't retrieve the needed number from the Trig for the Welly Climbs series. Have that now!
Even on a workday in cloudy conditions, a reasonably busy track. We were passed on the way up by a mountain biker, and met a camper pushing a baby stroller (with baby inside) after a night of camping somewhere near the top. Then there were the several vehicles of workers that went by, and a group of magnificent horses, including one that had a complete head blindfold on. Lots of beehives too.
CelloJoss, JohntheStrong and I headed out from Stratton Street in cloudy conditions, and the last 20 minutes on the way to the top was all in a very light rain/mist - enough to get us mostly wet. Had been interested to note the entrance to the trail was fine, and not boarded up, but arriving closer to the Trig itself we saw what Trancer had noted in their log - and did the same as them, climbing the fence and continuing up the trail. What we were able to notice once higher was that there is a new trail to the trig, and the fence is there to keep people from the old trail, which will return to native bush. DON'T turn off to the Trig here but continue about 100 metres to the new, and correct, turn off. It is well-signed - if you go far enough.
At the top the views were good, as the mist and rain had just cleared. Kapiti Island and all of the Wellington Harbour lay spread out in front of us. Cache was a quick find after a few photos, and I had brought replacement items with me. Decided to leave main container, as it is a nice size even if cracked, but now the log sheet is double bagged and inside two other containers inside the big one. Should be weather proof. The original log was complete mush, so removed that. The two replacement logs were combined into one and the names transferred into the one remaining. Cache should be good to go for a long while to come now. Took away the rubbish and one large toy that no longer fit in the newly configured container. TFTC!

Early morning walk up to the trig with CelloJoss and The Wandering Dragons. Great views in all directions and a cache also. Perfect. And able to claim 1290m towards the DGSC Distance challenge from where car parked at the Stratten St entrance. thanks for the cache.
A nice morning to go for a walk before the day got too hot. I had been eyeing this walk for a little while. On arrival at the Stratton St carpark I noticed that agcnz had just arrived as well in order to claim some FTF's available on the track. We decided to join forces so we could chat on the walk. On arrival at the top we were welcomed with great alround views and more importantly there was a nice breeze. I had a quick find after a short search. Everything in order. TFTC [Find # 4053]
For some reason the approach track to the trig from the Stratton Street ascent has been boarded off without any explanation and yet the trig itself is obviously still accessible by several other routes. So I climbed under the barricade and found no reason for it beyond. I think there might be a longer detour available but why?
At the trig I was caught off guard by a muggle resting behind the big rock who was taking on food and drink and looked like she might be there for a little while yet. I took the easy approach to the situation by saying hello and telling her I was about to do some suspicious-looking searching in the name of geocaching. She was moderately intrigued but left it at that and I went about my search.
It didn't take too long to find the cache but, as previously noted, it's not keeping out the water. I didn't even try and open the log book which I could see was soaked. Instead I put in a new log in its own bag from my inventory and called it a find.
As it happened I was out of view of the muggle all this time anyway and she was gone when I returned. However despite the fact that she was "jogging" back down the hill I was catching her up at a brisk walking pace!
Thanks for the cache but you gotta fix that container - as per previous NM.

Today I walked in the Belmont National Park to the highest point, the Belmont Trig.
On the way I could find a few Caches - this was the fifth. Thanks for the Cache to all owners and many Greetings from Germany.

Lucky the cache was on the leeward side of the gale for wind today! Was a bit further from the trig than anticipated but the coords were spot on.
Given the owner has not logged on 4 a couple years we replaced the sodden logbook with one made from "write in the ran" paper which should hopefully last longer.

Nice walk on a wet, misty day. The cache is very damp, I managed to find a dry enough piece of paper to write my log - but I suggest that it is replaced soon.

Great view point. No problems locating cache! Log very wet, could do with a replacement. TFTC
Definitely not the best thing to do with a hangover but survived making it to the top and found it. It's a bit wet in there CO might want to check on it. Beautiful view TFTC
Out for a training run with a couple of friends. Lovely warm evening with nary a cloud in the sky. This was a nice quick find thanks to the accurate hint. All good with the cache - cheers for the cache Murth. We were disappointed at the lack of etcha-sketch, but such is life
This was the highlight of our evening, having run from the Petone Foreshore area all the way up to the summit here. Took us in the region of 1 hour 15 mins, allowing for multiple stops for caches on the way.
The wind was picking up when we arrived, and the sun setting. So we made very quick work of signing the log (the only one which is not soaked through!) and then headed down via the more direct Ridge Track. Will save the Stratton side for another day!
Cheers!

It was a bit "triggy" to find, but we got it in the end. As expected very windy at the trig! The cache could do with a new container lid as clip seals are tired. Great sense of achievement when we got it. TFTC.
Out for my long run this morning with Jess. We were heading for this spot. It is well worth the effort to get here just for the view - which is spectacular on a clear day. Lucky for us, today was one of those days where you could see the whole panorama.
For here we headed over to Cannon Head and back down to Stratton St.
There was a guy near the top who had set up his short wave radio. No idea what he was listening to, but it did seem a bit weird. Anyway, he was far enough away to not be able to see what we were doing so we went ahead and searched for the cache.
As noted in previous logs, there are two very wet log books here, plus one that is not so wet and has been used relatively recently. We wrote our log in the driest one.
No sign of a magna doodle so was unable to leave a message!
Thank you

Today's 30km hiking trip done... 1st cache of 3 today... Hard to find them without GPS, just based on hint/description But this one - FOUND.
Yee ha! Up the top with 3 and 5 yr Olds. Very proud. Log books are very soggy. 5 yr old says... "we've had a really long walk and we had some treats and we had lots of fun from... r and j" ttfc
#1234. Having come up here to collect the new cache further downhill we carried on to pick up the two other caches near the trig. A fairly steady uphill climb but quite manageable on good farm roads and paths. Some awesome views towards the city, harbour, Hutt Valley and Kapiti Island once you get up here. Still a bit of a chilly breeze today despite the large anticyclone over top of the country. After taking a lot of photos we hunted around for the cache. Took a bit of effort to find as plenty of hiding places available. Luckily it is a big container and coordinates are fairly good so got there eventually. The last logbook added is still dry but the original is very soggy. I emptied out some water from the container and dried the cache with tissues. Put the old logs inside another plastic bag. Got rid of some the broken and rusted swag that was wet and beyond redemption. Returned cache where found and time to head back downhill to the car. TFTC Will add this walk today to the Ramblers Reward challenge (GC2XBA7).

TFTC. First cache of the day. Huffed and puffed my way (very slowly) up the hill this morning, at least there was no problem in getting to the general area - just head up! My Phone GPS took a while to settle - I reckon it was being buffeted by today's 'gentle zephyrs' - one of the few time's I'm grateful for my 'low and compact' build, it kept me anchored to the ground. Once the phone decided to behave itself, this was a quick find, and blessedly out of the wind! 1.54km towards the DGSC challenge as I parked in the lower car park, and amazing views over to Kapiti in one direction, and the South Island in another. As this is a older cache, many thanks to everyone who's helped keep this going over the years - long may it continue!
Was up this way placing a cache so thought it rude not to stop and get this one. All in order at GZ, TFTC
I've been looking at this one for way too long now. Today provided an opportunity to scale the heights of Mount Belmont and claim the prize.
A few pointers - it takes longer than 1 hour return, which is the time suggested in the cache description. The information board on Stratton Street says that you should allow 1 hour 30 minutes one way. That's a big generous. In my turtle-like fashion (yep, that's why I'm known as the turtle) I managed to get from the car park to the trig in around 60 minutes. Coming down is much less, maybe 40 minutes.
When you are looking for the cache take the hint distance and double that. Better still, trust your GPSr. The coordinates are bang on.
The cache has been in situ here since 2006. Nice one. There are two very sodden and unusable log books and a third log that appears to have been temporarily added by some thoughtful cacher. Thanks.
Signed the log, replaced safely, just as found. All in order.
Great views to be had, even on a not too great winter's day with rain showers passing through. Well worth the bit of huff and puff to get your good self up here.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Thanks for placing the cache. Found on a winter's walk. No one up here today. Easy find. Two logs very wet. The most current log is dry.
Found this one quickly on second visit - first had been spoiled by others sitting nearby. Misty day but not too chilly and very peaceful. TFTC.
This used to to be my regular running destination until we moved. Great to be up here again. The cache container is rather inadequate for the extremes of weather up here. Thanks for the cacher who replaced the waterlogged log in a double plastic bag. As per usual for this time of year, gale and cool; but I like it that way TFTC!
Enjoyed the views from the top.
Heard a fire siren go off from the direction of Tawa, and then another a little later from Petone.
Easily found.

Out for a run on a freezing cold morning. I had looked for it before but not wanting to hang around had not looked hard. This time I read the logs and had a good idea of where to look and decided to take 3 mins at the top to have a quick look for this one. Thankfully found it quickly. TFTC
found this and as others have said log is soaked but the one put out by another cacher is in good order and dry. it is blowing unbelievably hard we walked very wobbly being pushed around by the wind at the top great to sit down out of the wind to record the log. very please to be at the top now time to head down towards baked beans bend and homeward. tftc
Quick find during an evening run whilst staying nearby. Beautiful views from up here on a stunning day.

After quite a bit of frustrated hunting I spotted the cache, good deal of natural camoflauge growing on the container
poured out the water from inside the cache, tnsl

Weather forecast from the top. Cold wet and zilch visibility. Was happy to find the cache out of the wind. Home to walm up now.
Easy find... but didn't even try to open the soggy log. Photo attached as proof of find. Note the possum poo on the lid.
A quick find, and yes - the cache was pretty wet inside. I started a new log using a piece of A4 paper which is double zip-lock bagged so hopefully that stays dry. I also dropped off a Geocoin which I'd picked up earlier on in the day at GC22DTW Sugar High. It just started to lightly rain as I left back down the hill - much easier going down ! TFTC.
A bit windy and cloudy for good views today, but a great walk with a friend and fellow cacher, SG Kahu. Next cacher to come up here needs to bring a new log book and some wet wipes to clean up as everything is slimy and there were puddles of water in the sistema.
What a great spot - top of the world (well this part of it anyway). Needs a bit of TLC - a long hike for the owner so as Helen says, maybe if another cacher is planning a visit they could do it. Very very very wet.

After climbing to the top with my wife and taking some time to admire the view and climb the rocks, I checked for nearby caches and found this one quickly. Nicely hidden. Liberated a travel bug and will help it on its journey. TFTC!
Good hint helped. A beautiful Autumn day up here with fantastic views and little wind. Took a TB and left one .
Soggy soggy soggy logbook. Time for a quick rest and bikkie before the downward run with Belmont scouts.
The whole container a bit mouldy and yuck! Could do with a little TLC, perhaps! Quick find. TFTC.
Was a bit soggy and we couldn't leave a message on the magna doodle as it was too wet. Gave it a dry off. Nice sheltered spot to eat lunch. TFTC TNLN
Found this one on a mammoth run with JimmyNZ along the 23 km Puke Ariki Traverse from the Dry Creek/Haywards hill end. Took just over 4 hours to run with geocaching and photo stops along the way. JimmyNZ gets the credit, i just huddled behind a rock and waited.
Ran here from Haywards with Greenslime. And all I was thinking when I made it here, not another hill! Figured out that when looking for a cache, look for the stash of toilet paper and the cache will be near by. TFTC! TB out.
Third attempt to find this cache and today i was lucky. Short walk up the hill and quick grab. Great views. In : TB. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
A quick find.
The logbook was soaked and unusable so added a new one in a plastic bag.

Lovely spot on a hot day! Have been meaning to come up here for years. Found the cache quickly but, like others have said, it is very wet. I wrote my log on a piece of brown paper bag and put it in the bag with the toys, which was dryer than the bag containing the log book. Totally forgot the request to bring a new box up here or I would gladly have done. TFTC!
Came up the Belmont Trig South track from Baked Beans Bend. Its very steep to start and quite exposed but thre is a nice piece of bush in the middle. The track is well maintained. The cache is not looking so good although the toys dried out very quickly while we had lunch. The log is a write off and sadly Magna Doodle is no longer working. This is still a very good location for a cache.
A quick find today while out on the mtb. This cache has been on my todo list for quite some time so it was great to finally get here but unfortunately the cloud cover prevented me from enjoying the view. A very fitting starting point for my attempt on boxhill's Peak Performance Challenge. TFTC
The container was completely full of water and the log is soaked. As the owner has not been online for some times, could the next visitor please bring in a new container and log book.

A steep and unrelenting uphill slog, but well-rewarded at the end with fabulous views in all directions on a fine Sunday morning. Cache took a bit of searching before it was found - but there was no way we were leaving without finding it.
The expected time as listed on the cache page must be for very fit people only, it took us well over 2 hours for the return journey. As we descended, we passed 3 people running up the hill - crazy!

The expected time as listed on the cache page must be for very fit people only, it took us well over 2 hours for the return journey. As we descended, we passed 3 people running up the hill - crazy!

#4517. Had a look at the height gain (350m or so) and decided the climb by itself would take a bit more than an hour (which it did). We were rewarded with excellent views (was a little surprised to be able to see Kapiti Island). TFTC. Ramble #7 for Ramblers Reward Challenge.
