Passed this way last week and the cache is definately buried. As I dont get out here that often anymore I have closed the book on Weird Al

Ahh well, as I now live in the area, I will place a new cache in this area, as it really does deserve one here.

I did a tour around the Emerald and Blackwater areas to pick up a couple of caches, now being based in Bluff. I stopped off at this cache site, and can confirm it is in dire straits. Having previously found it, I knew where to look. Owner might find an excavator handy, as basically only river sand exists where there used to be rocks. Cache, if its still there, is probably buried a good 40-50cms. Looks like GZ was covered by about 2-3 metres of water during the floods. Even now, Bedford Weir has a good 30-40cm of water overflowing it, with water still above road level on the bridge below the weir.

It really is a great spot for a cache, so could really do with a replacement if the original is lost.

Cheers

Will try to get out and retrieve cache if it is still there in next week or so

Judging by the sand, debris and dead fish at gz, I think this one may have been washed away.Still it's a great location and worth the drive.Cheers.

Being based very close by now, I intend to go and check on this cache, as the water level during the floods earlier this year would have covered the cache location. Passed by on a familurisation tour a couple of weeks and saw that there appeared to be a heap of sand spread over the general cache area. Unfortunately, time constraints prevented me from checking on the cache on that occasion.

The sixth find on my trip out west, and up north. Nice and easy, with a quick detour off the Capricorn Highway.
Found at 1505 hrs.

The weir is full, very full, which is really a surprise given the nature of things in recent months. Quite a lot of travellers camped nearby.

The cache itself was easily found, and is in good condition.

Cheers

Had a good day anyway.

We arrived at the weir late in the day with the caravan on the back as we had read that we could stay at this spot. We were greeted to a glorious sunset over the water. We found a great place to park the caravan right near the water and in the morning were greeted to a awesome sunrise. As we were leaving the area we picked up the cache. TNLN. Thanks freaky kwyjibo

The Peatey80 crew found this one today while going for a nice drive. We arrived just in time to feed the baby and search for the cache. We also took a look at the Head stone next to the road. Great spot for a picnic here.

Left a St. George Dragons Tazo

Took the Little People Doll and a Acme toy

Easy cache found in a matter of minutes with not a single soul in sight to be weary of. However, the noise of the running water did trigger a second stream of running water Razz Found this one around 5:45pm.

Took: Green bouncy ball
Left: Emerald Shire Xmas Party Stubby Cooler
(I had to re-read the notes to make sure I wasn't suppose to leave a wind-up toy)

Thanks,

Joe Possum and partner visited Wierd Al and found cache at 2:40pm on a hot afternoon ("hot" for visiting Victorian/Kiwi possums). Took philips screw driver and left green (to match Al...) flashing ball. We also paid our respects to trooper Owens.

Thanks to Freaky for the cache. If it wasn't for the cache we would not have visited this interesting spot.

1/6/06 Found it OK. Interesting - it is within 20 meters of one of my other-interest locations, the headstone of a trooper who was apparently involved in a gold heist from the Clermont-St. Lawrence route in the 1880s. 'Involved' could be taken both ways, but his interest was terminated and he now lies just above the road that crosses the sometimes water.

The cache was in good condition. As is usually the case when I am without the family, I took nothing and left nothing but a log entry.

It was only after I was 20 km away and on my way home that I realised the significance of the naming of the cache.

Good one, Freaky!
