Altaire and I came up here for a nice walk this afternoon. They were the last finders. Sadly the cache is gone.
This was the last of the Dial Ranges peaks we had left to do - did we leave the least to last? Not really. They are all unique and worth doing - different views from each one of them. Parked at the usual parking area and headed along the lovely Myrtle creek track. This section of track is worth doing just for itself - such a pretty little creek. A very well built and maintained track as to boot.
We soon came to the point where the track left the creek and began its considerate switch back route up the hill. Fairly easy really and certainly a popular walk - saw three other groups heading up as we came down. Luckily we had the top to ourselves. Quickly nabbed the cache and parked ourselves on the nice seat whilst we carried out the log duties and took in the terrific view to the east.
Great cache location forthferalz.

Great cache location forthferalz.
Great location for a Cache. Thanks. Well hidden. Out on a run in this magnificent area whilst here from Sydney.
As I was unlucky with the "downtown" Penguin caches, I tried my luck with "in and around", which I found pretty soon. As there was still heaps of daylight left , I decided to go a little further to this one although the name did not really appeal to me. Anyway, going there I was really pleased to be in a great bush area with almost no muggles - I just saw one short before I reached the top. Before I entered the reserve, I saw an Echidna, just within the reserve boundaries, I saw a black cockatoo and heard another one nearby. It was a great walk, first along Myrtle Creek and further up in dry forest until I got to the top with a good view. Cache contents smell as if they had been wet, but everything is dry now and the container is in good shape, too.
Thanks a lot forthferalz for luring me up here!
Thanks a lot forthferalz for luring me up here!
this was the first cache for me today and spirits were still high. the view from the summit wasn't that good, but at least there was one. that was about to change at the next mountains and caches... TFTC!
Nice little cache! Great views over penguin from the top. Contents were a bit wet, tried to dry it out as best I could.
Nice trip up to the top - well worth the effort as the view was very very good! Cache was slightly damp, but exactly where it was meant to be! I tried to dry the contents out and as such they should be a little less damp! TFTC SL TNLN!
We picked a beautiful day to climb Mt Montgomery. The start of the track had been recently upgraded and we were thinking this is going to be an easy walk but boy we were wrong. The walk is very steep in parts and took longer than the estimated 1.5 hrs on the signs.
The views were clear and we enjoyed a rest at the top while contemplating the walk back down. It was nice to visit an area that we had not been before. TFTC

The weather finally perked up after heavy rain and blustery winds so we decided to go for this cache. It was steep and very warm and despite a lack of helpful signs we made it to the top. We found the signs on the way down, so suggest that people setting off (on foot) take the vehicle track from the car park not the walking track. Then the signs are clearly visible. A good walk with fine views of the sea today. TFTC.
Found with the Northwestern Bushwalking club on a training day. TLNSL. Thanks for the cache.
(etrexer)Found today after a very hot stroll up the hill,Many stops. But what a great view at the top today. The last time i was up here was 36 years ago on my grade six end of year excursion and im sure the mountain was not as steep back then.Added a small car and a key ring to cache got the photos of the view and for the trig cache then scrambled back down,Not sure if it was any easier going back down but had less stops. Thanks forthferalz very enjoyable.
Found after TAFE and during a training run for the Triple Top race. Mt Montgomery is important to the CEyres as it was the very first mountain in Tasmania that we walked up as a family, the memory of carrying the two small ones up that last pinch is quite strong. Anyway this cache finding run started with ominous skies and as I huffed along the track I had time to gaze at the very foamy waterfall, the foam was at least a meter thick. The hill was climbed and half the view admired before the clouds, drizzle and rain set in. The cache was found, the mountain trig was photographed for the GA site and then I had to scamper down the hill. In heavy rain. And I was wearing cotton work clothing that hung heavy in the rain. I finished the run, soaked but happy that I was able to go up the hill relatively quickly, that is the hill that I can usually see from the highway but today I couldn't because of the low clouds. Thanks ForthFeralz for this cache as it was an excuse for an adventure.
Enjoyable walk on a cool winters day on a well marked track. Quick find. TNLN SL
Pleasant walk along the creek then a fair bit of a slog up the steep tracks. Fair bit of water in the cache. TNLN. Thanks for a Great cache.
Parked the cachemobile at the local disused tip. The weather was overcast and the top of Mt Montgomery was covered in mist. There were a few drop of rain on the car so I put on my wet weather trousers and off I went in search of the PCT.
Found it 200m later - 1.5hrs return, the sign indicated. OK I thought.
Followed the track and then the road to the next sign - 1.5hrs return. Wish they would get it right....
Finally made it to the top and was cursing that I could have made this a drive by?
Found the cache, emptied the water out but everything seems OK - hard to tell because at the 400m to go mark, I had to don the raincoat and loose my glasses as they kept fogging up!!! The log is probably a little damp.
Rehid and went off to hide red tag's movable.
Thanks for the cache and the walk - pity about the view today.
Returned to the car by the vehicle track - all up the trip was 2 hours.

Terrain 3? If "Braken Principal" is a 3 then this is a 10!!! Raced up from the start of the PCT to Gz and was rewarded with fab views on a clear day. No time to sit and contemplate unfortunately as the rest of the party were waiting at the bus, so dash back in 11/2 Hrs return . MMMM, Maybe thats why the climb was so tough. TNLN. TFTC!
The weather was wonderful - clear blue skies and not a hint of wind. Magnificent views eastwards from Mt Montgomery. Quite surprised to meet so many people on the track. This made the 3hr return walk along an often quite steep track worthwhile. TFTC
Soaked to the skin in the pouring rain, no view at all but we enjoyed every minute of it.
After a steady walk in on a hot afternoon I had no problems finding this one. TNLN but took in the views. Thanks
Checked on this puppy after visiting nearby Trig cache....and even after 3yrs 4mths still found without the gpsr. I'm sure the best caches stay in the memory banks forever. The cache is still in top condition...but not quite as alarming as my first visit though...lol. Hopefully the cache will get more visits now there's another nearby....the stunning views certainly well worth the climb....Cheers Forthferalz.
Agree with Beetles2 regarding the "easy(ish)" rating! Beautiful view of the coast. Took keychain. Left US coin & child's game. TFTC!
Found it with the alarm having the expected result. There are about 5 trees that are still across the track brought down by the Sept 27th storm. The track is well marked with pink tape so wrong turns can be avoided. Nice assortment of goodies.
An easy find once we got to the top. Think Forthferalz must be a lot younger and fitter than us if they classify this as an easy 2 hour walk!!! The sweat was flowing freely and we were glad that we tackled this one in the winter rather than the summer. Took nothing. Left a keyring. TFTC.
Hot day, so the climb up was tiring... great views of the surrounding countryside and the sea from the top, though. For some reason we tried to find the cache without the hint, but it was too hot to fumble through the rocks and bushes so we fetched the hint, which made things a whole lot easier. A couple of walkers came up while we were sitting in the shade of the shed with cache stuff strewn about. Wondered if they were fellow geocachers, but they didn't spend much time up here so maybe not... Managed to get the cache back when they weren't looking. The two oldies overtook us on the horribly dry slippery slope down, but they had the benefit of walking poles...
TFTC, Forthferalz!
TFTC, Forthferalz!
Finally got up to this cache,- first one on an overnighter thru to Wings Farm. This Mountain might not look much from the Bass Hwy, but fair dinkum, she's steep toward the top! I took the track that curves around and comes up from the South.
Brilliant views right along the coast on a clear day. Cache was found easily and is in good order.
Thanks Forthferalz

A very nice walk this morning, don't know why I didn't take the last right fork as instructed (by walk books, cache notes, logs, everything) so went past the burnt sign and the track petered out. Rather than go back a short way I went straight up and met the track again. It was getting close to the top anyway and map indicated I'd have to re-meet it. Last 5 minutes on the 4WD track veeery steep..and slippery coming down: dry gravelly dirt nicely sprinkled with dry leaves. But lovely views from the top and a glorious day to enjoy it. Nice cache, all in good order. A surprise too. TNLNSL. Thanks FF.
We've been meaning to get to this one for ages and finally made it. A perfect day for the weather, what else would you expect on a Good Friday. A nice walk through the bush to get here but we were amazed at the number of people we ran into. All up we met four other parties doing the same walk, must be the thing to do over Easter. Anyway, back to the cache. A nice easy find once we were on top although there is a need for fresh batteries. We actually had the screwdriver to replace them but when we went to put them in realised we'd left them on the kitchen table. Grr. We took the Compass Rose and Civil War Geocoins and left a travel bug and Pieman, our hero, in the cache. Another great cache, up with the usual high standards we've come to expect from FF. Thanks for this one, the view was worth the walk alone and we never would have got here without the cache being here.
Visited with papa feral to air cache and check the guardian who is rather tired of waiting again and needs 2 N2390 batteries. Lots of good swaps for these - take a mini philips head screwdriver if you plan to feed him. Creek virtually dry but plenty of butterflies and some black cockatoos decorating the walk. Peak is a lovely romantic spot inthe late afternoon -watched a pair of Wedge tailed eagles dancing together in the eastern sky. Saw nice big snake on trail at the creek He's not the the guardian! L geocoins
what an awsome cache , for the shortest hill it seemed a long way up , great view on a rather warm afternoon.had thought about taking a short cut back to ring ring but i think the track will be easier t gun dog l go go bus thanks forth feralz
Checked agree with Sirius although GPS not happy - 20m accuracy on crystal clear day with 12 sats. The bush has thickened due to rain and cache not at the trig point so take the hint! We averaged those initial readings over an hour on a 8m accuracy day with 10 sat lock.
Another climb up a bit of an anthill..not.. really.Glad I took hint,as coords...waaaaaaay out, according to my GPSr anyway. My coords are 41-09.061, 146-03.912..will check at work on Monday,as I will have coords to Trig Station.Hint spot on anyway.Have been here for work purposes many times, but you would never get sick of spectacular view of Ulvy. and surrounds..would have to be one of the best views of a major town and river, anywhere in Tassie.Fantastic.Yep,speccie spot Thanks Forthferalz, for getting me here once again..geopooch loved the walk also.
By the way...loved the surprise when opening cache..great stuff.Topped off a great day. TNLNSL Cheers F/Feralz.

NOTE: stick to the right if trail junctions are not marked after the leaving PCT (signed left turn 10m after Myrtle creek ). Fed the guardian +checked coords; A few of the turnoffs are unmarked and decided to explore the other ones... curiosity - past a burnt out signpost headed up into bush and even the dog was pooped after losing the overgrown trail. (lost on my own cache
Highly recommended walk for the energetic. Decided I would run up the hill, which was good for about 2/3 of the way, the rest was a steady walk. Rewarded at the top for all my efforts by a stunning view of nothing. Cloud was well down , but I'm sure it would be nice if it stopped raining.
Co-ords were way off for me, maybe to do with the cloud cover, had me 30 metres away, but the clue honed straight in. Guardian is getting a bit tired, if anyone has a spare AAA battery to take up, I'm sure he would enjoy the feed.
- Matchbox car
+ Padlock and Key
Thanks for the great cache, last of my tour of Aust.

Thanks for the great cache, last of my tour of Aust.
Still had days off over the Easter break to use up so a quick jaunt up the closest hill to home was in order.
Had a leisurely stroll up without any mishaps to be rewarded with excellent views of Ulvy.
Found cache without any problems and opened my bag of swaps to find very slim pickings. Did have a keyring though so did the trade. Also took the minder for a journey around the countryside.
Well done FF, great fun and good hide.

After a hard day at work, there's no better way to unwind than putting your feet up and cracking open a cold one..... or walking up a mountain..... that's similar isn't it!?!
Come to think of it, I don't remember the slogan "A hard earned thirst needs a big rocky peak". But regardless... It was nice to get back up into the Dial Range again. I remember when we were planning our Dial Range cache (wait for it.... the shameless plug's coming) I used to drive past this northern peak in the range on my way to and from work. I thought to myself that there was no point in caching this one because the views wouldn't be very good, due to the top being covered with trees. Well, I was wrong wasn't I? Who's a silly cachemonkey then?
In short. the views are great. They are from all these Dial Range mountains, but while this one has limited views West, it's views east, particularly down the Leven estuary are magnificent!
A cracker of a cache ForthFeralz... we loved it! Even if doing it after work was a little tough. But then I blame Aloysius for that!
Took - Robot Dog keyring.
Left - N.Z. Thermometer keyring.
Thanks ForthFeralz. Now that I've finished my log, I might just take this opportunity to say how nice the Dial Range is, and shamelessly plug a certain other cache in the area (GCP3VK). It has the least impeded views of any Dial Range mountain, and being the highest, a great sense of achievement to be gained!... Go on.... you know you want to!
Thanks again F.F. The Captain salutes you!

Yay! first to find to me! Oooh yeh who's the man!
Sorry...im still getting back into the swing of caching after a year of predominantly hides only
This one was a ripper. After walking the rest of the peaks in this range in the past it was high time i bagged this one.
It was also the perfect spot to test out my new digicam...which performed a treat. No snakes today for a change...last few caching trips have had at least one sighting...
Took Photos Left Footprints.
Cheers.
