Another nice quick find while out for a bike ride along here this afternoon, TFTC

Had a fun bike ride along the trail. Youngest son hadn't biked along here before and he really accelerated when he saw the tunnel! The cache was a nice quick find. TFTC

12-Apr-21
I was just out for a few hours today spending some quality time with my mountain bike and camera. After riding over from Cross Creek and having lunch at the Kaitoke end I was working my way slowly back to the car. Near the shooting range I decided to check the Geo app on the phone to pick up a few caches along the way in order to make this side of the rail trail a more interesting ride. Arriving here I missed the cache on the first pass and, ignoring my phone, I blundered my way up towards the top of the tunnel before realising that A) It looks much higher once you get up there than from trail level B) The edge of the drop isn't very well defined under foot and C) I had gone well past the GZ. After backtracking, and paying more attention, the find was quickly made.
As I hadn't planned any geocaching today I wasn't carrying a pen with me. At the time I snapped a picture of the log book with my phone as proof of find. However, a day later, I now see that the image didn't upload and I cannot find it in my gallery. If required by CO I can email a description of cache and log book. A few damp items in the container, but the log book is wonderfully dry. TNLNSL TFTFC agcnz

Found quickly, cache all in good order, thanks.

14-Nov-20
Nice drive by. Quick find. TFTC

22-Mar-20
Took a minute for GPS to settle. Then hubby and kids went into the Bush while I tried to look casual and not suspicious with 5 bikes around me.

03-Mar-20
Ahh, back on track. After two dnf's, pleased to make a quick find here. Not too many of these containers around these days, a pleasant change from the sistemas with plenty of room for tradeables..

16-Feb-20
Ahh blackberry, keeping the cache safe, TFTC

16-Feb-20
Out on a ride on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with DaVinciHunter. Always a joy finding one of these geocaches. TFTC.

24-Jan-20
Found this while spraying tradescantia. Didn't remember having done this one in the past but turns out I have several years ago

11-Jan-19
Great hide. Good size but no TBS with me. Not far back to the car. Great ride if not rather tired now

24-Nov-18
Out today with wb1116 on a bike ride. He was hunting another but we had time for me to look for this one.
Rain was not pleasant but cheered up when I found the treasure.
Cache in good order. TNLNSL, TFTC Agcnz for maintaining.

22-Oct-18
With things at WENZ Headquarters than it was yesterday I was given a leave pass for a few hours. So I headed up to the Rail Trail to give my new Stumpy ST 29r it’s first off road trial. Rode up to Summit Yards with one stop to chat to rattll and watcache who I bumped into along the way. Pleasing to see some others enjoying this excellent trail, the excellent caching, and today's excellent weather.

Thanks for the new container and nice new logbook. It didn't take me too long to find it. The penultimate find of the afternoon.

Oh and the mtb, passed with flying colours. Cheers and TFTC

21-Oct-18
Well its Mega time again and its held in Wellington so there has been lots of planning envolved with puzzles been solved and trails to do this trail along the habour betrween Wellington and Petone was planned to be done after the festivities of the Mega but there was to be a slight hick up at the start of Friday morning before we set off for Wellington and that was a truck accident with a chemical spill blocking the road restricting movement along state highway one in the road not likely to be open until 8pm that night. so after watching the NZTA website up until 3pm a plan was hatched to divert to Wellington over the Piatua track and down the Wairapa to our desination right at ground zero so there we stayed for three nights, after entering into the Waves to Waitrapa and trying to get 10 lab caches and 11 differnt cache types in a day on the saturday.
The next morning turned out to be another beauty so after breakfast we loaded the bikes onto the car and off to the start soon we were heading to the start of the trail where we un[oaded the bikes and adjusted one of them to suit mr rattl, then we were off and it was not long before we reached this one but we must have been away with the fairies on this one so we picked this one up on the return trip, mr rattl located this one so the log was signed and replaced as found.
Thanks for the smiley and the cache

21-Oct-18
We lost coverage as we neared this one and by the time we'd regained it, it was about 100mts behind us, so we left it to pick up on the return journey.
Nice to find a decent sized cache here. We left a pet rock - a blue whale.
Thanks for placing this cache at another interesting little spot for us to stop at

16-Oct-18
Thanks to those who reported water in the container and the damp logbook. I called here this morning and have now replaced the container with a camouflage-painted and labelled steel ammunition box, secured to a tree with a chain. A new waterproof logbook has also been included. I have relocated the cache back to near its original location from the somewhat exposed position that it had crept to, and have updated the coordinates by a small amount. Please ensure that when you replace the cache you heap plenty of sticks and vegetation debris over it so that it is not visible from a distance. All good to go, happy caching!

16-Oct-18
Coordinates changed from:
S 41° 7.091 E 175° 10.886

Coordinates changed to:
S 41° 7.091 E 175° 10.884

Distance from original: 9.1 feet or 2.8 meters.

Hopefully a slightly better coordinate set.

26-Sep-18
Today I thought that seeing it was going to be a nice day I would head out to the Rimutaka Rail Trail and try my luck with my new e-Bike.

I missed this one on the way up but managed to locate it on the way down. It is now at the base of the bank below the whiteywood tree.

Cheers for the cache.

Cool hide

28-Apr-18
HAd a good look around in the wrong place at first before dad found it

27-Apr-18
Quick find with monkeymoo1. GPS was jumping around a bit but we got there in the end. TFTC

25-Feb-18
On the way to Summit I briefly stopped here and had a look around (in slightly the wrong place I later discovered) but decided to defer it and have another look on the way back. This time I parked the bike out of sight so as not to raise to suspicion for passers by (of which there were a couple) and got to work. The GPS led me pretty much to the same place as last time but this time I also used the hint. But that wasn't panning out and, somewhat unbelievably,, when I noticed I had an untied shoelace I squatted down to remedy that and found myself staring right at the cache! The hiding place is perfectly sensible but I had trouble reconciling it with the hint. A slightly fortuitous find then but that'll do. TFTC!

20-Jan-18
Just past the narrow tunnel easily cycled without lights. That is if another cyclist does not stop with here bike across the tunnel so she can take a selfie in the dark (of course another group were coming the other way). I later saw her partner cycling back looking for a lost selfie stick (karma) Twisted.

The hint says "top of bank" which is no longer true. There are plenty of the hint tree up on the bank so we searched up there for a while without success and it was only when we came back to the first hint tree at the bottom of the bank that we found the cache.

10-Sep-17
Cache not quite placed as described by hint, but found after a few minutes' searching. TFTC!

09-Sep-17
Found after good search thanks to SJT_NZ's log; him & Tregearp last in physical log. TFTC agcnz, fascinating read of tunnels after find.

06-Jul-17
Thanks for placing the cache. We went for a ride on the incline track and picked up several caches on the way back to Upper Hutt.

02-Apr-17
A quick trip up the incline track today placing out some promotional cards for the WENZ 2018 event. Check out the details on the [WENZ Webstite](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/).

Got there in the end - coordinates are good, but possibly some cache creep? Cache is on the far side of the Mahoe if viewing from the track, but below the bank and under some concealed under some sticks and leaves but in the open - albeit in scrub. All in good condition and replaced as found - TFTC.

02-Apr-17
A quick find on the trail and lots of other people walking, running or cycling the trail today. TFTC

10-Feb-17
Riding the Rimutaka track, going in from Kaitoke to the summit and back down today..... really enjoying the history panels and the scenery. Thanks for the cache

28-Jan-17
Stopping for a breather on our on our three days on the Rimutaka Cycle Trail, the ventilation shaft is not quite as architectural as the newer ones that you see around. Found with Lilywyte. TFTC

28-Jan-17
Cycling the Rimutaka railtrail and caching with Trampingkiwi.
Day 1 Maymorn to Cross creek.
Enjoying the trail. TFTC!

23-Jan-17
I took an educated guess to what a Whiteywood might be. After ten minutes of searching around every Whiteywood ScattyP and I could see, we finally managed to spot it!

13-Jan-17
Found this in the open while working near the track. Covered it a bit but wasn't sure where it is supposed to be hidden

30-Apr-16
Decided I needed 'a bit of a walk' today, so went out to gather the necessary info for the multis. As I was passing, it would have been most remiss of me not to add this one to the cache haul. All in good condition, and the light on my phone did what was needed in the tunnel! TFTC.

09-Apr-16
Found it fairly quickly, good size container to spot.

13-Mar-16

Out for a long caching weekend with KiwiExplorer and JoshThePirate Big Grin We did a lot of good caches, odd caches and some of them were just caches Razz
But most important, we had a lot of fun and the weather was brilliant all the time! [^] Thanks for all the caches Big Grin

While JTP and I went back to ride the tunnel again and again, KE was bush bashing around and around, but finally he found the cache Big Grin

Out for a MTB ride along the rail trail with Cache.Mike and JoshThePirate today. This was our first stop after making it through the tunnel. The others decided to go ride the tunnel again while I searched for the cache. They were back and I still hadn't found it but then it was soon spotted.
Thanks GenCuster and agcnz for the cache.

09-Mar-16
Stopped to see the ventilation shaft - and listen for trains? So of course there was time for this cache as well, thanks!

04-Mar-16
All in good nick but this fairly large container was pretty easy to spot by anybody who strayed to look at local points of interest Covered it over with a few more sticks and bits of vegetation The hint will still work Tftc

29-Jan-16
Enjoying the ridr and the history. Tftc

10-Jan-16
Tftc out for a ride today with some fellow caches. I had the lot to get they have already done them. Haha made them let me look they went on ahead or waited for me it was a fun day out nice to get back out onto my bike. No dobby though too far for him to run the whole way.

13-Dec-15
Out for a 21km walk with fellow dog-owners on a lovely summer's day so I wasn't able to cache as much as I would have liked. I looked for this one on the way to the summit but gave up after a reasonable search seeing as I was now far behind my companions and would have to run to catch up. When I finally did rejoin the group they were conveniently clustered near another cache (bonus!). After lunch, at the summit, we turned around and headed back to the cars. As we passed this cache again, I thought to try again - we were all pretty tired, but the lure of hidden treasure proved too much! This time, it was a quick find. TFTC!

07-Oct-15
Found it after a bit of a search

08-Aug-15
Nice hide. Nearly looked in the wrong location. The shaft nearby is pretty impressive as was the tunnel through which we walked to get to the cache. Thanks for the cache. Did with Wandering Dragons on our tramping day out.

06-Feb-15
Bit of a scramble, but eventually found it and second for the day. TFTC

24-Jan-15
Always a favourite place to stop. And some welcome shade on a very hot day!

24-Jan-15
Nice easy cach to find in an interesting spot. Beautiful day to be riding the Trail today. TFTC

22-Jan-15
Found just as a train went through the tunnel underneath!

04-Dec-14
Found after a bit of a hunt around in the undergrowth. Great tunnel section of the trail. Log book very wet. TFTC

30-Nov-14
Final day of the month, last day of spring and the Rimutaka rail trail beckons.
Pleased to make a straightforward find here. A bit of a vintage cache this one. Cache in order, log signed, safely re-hidden, just as found.

21-Apr-14
Went for a ride with Wbond1116 over the incline to Featherston today and got some caches but saved some for another trip.

15-Mar-14
Fourth visit here, finally a find.

When found it was deeply buried and had fresh blackberry growth over it - no wonder I missed it the first three times. Seems a couple of months with the weather we have had has caused a great amount of additional cover.....

Fresh growth has been stripped away (with a few cuts etc), and cache replaced with cover but not buried so deeply.

Now I can cycle past here on future trips.

Thanks AGCNZ - finding this one has been an adventure!

09-Mar-14
Searched on the way up and on the way back on both sides but no joy today.

08-Mar-14
Unsure if this has been muggled?????

25-Jan-14
Found on a beautiful sunny morning while cycling some of the trail, great to be back up this way after a long absence. TFTC, #6202

10-Jan-14
#5098. Didn't find anything after circling what the GPS was pointing to. Then realised it was loaded with the old coordinates. Re-input the updated ones ... and found the cache quickly afterwards. TNLNSL. TFTC.

30-Dec-13
Found it after a good look at wrong bank!
Then back down from the sun to the car before the rain set in.
TFTC

29-Dec-13
Well there you go! Pays to read the hint thoroughly as we were thinking the big bank before trusting the co-ords (which were spot on).

Fascinating to think that the current train line is over 100m below where we were standing Surprised! TFTC.

29-Nov-13
Coordinates changed from:
S 41° 07.085 E 175° 10.894

Coordinates changed to:
S 41° 07.091 E 175° 10.886

Distance from original: 51.8 feet or 15.8 meters.
Updated coordinates using averaged readings on two GPS units, hopefully these will be more accurate than the last ones.

28-Nov-13
Called here this morning and I couldn't find the cache myself, it's certainly not where I last saw it. I have replaced it with a new clear 1-litre Xeonic container with logbook and pen, and updated the coordinates and the hint. It's possible the old cache is still there and has either "crept" or evaded my searches - if anyone finds the old one, please leave it adjacent to the new and let me know so that I can go back and set things right.

23-Nov-13
Had a good rummage, but didn't find. Hint not super helpful.

16-Nov-13
Hmm pushed 4 time couldn't seem 2 locate cache. Left 4 another day.

04-Aug-13
Found after a short search ... GPS was out by about 17 metres for me. My hint for the current location would be '~3 metres towards the tunnel from the shaft'.

TFTC!

Found while on a georun to the summit and back

Luckily the sink hole has been sorted, found a little exposed, so tucked away a bit.

15-Mar-13
First find of day and that huge sink hole put mrs j off. Mr j found it on his own! Given the hole and how far out the co-ords were we never would have found it without the hint. Just in Wellington for the week-end and the Oregon has really been struggling. This was the third attempted today and our first find! Hired bikes from Upper Hutt and had them drop us off at the trail head. Had a great time - we got as far as the middle of the Summit Tunnel. It took us about 2 hours with caching and lunch. Back down took under a half hour with few stops and then we rode back to the bike shop. We had a great day. NINO TFTC

10-Mar-13
Reasonably quick find once we navigated past the huge hole next to the ventilation shaft. TFTC

24-Feb-13
Found on family bike ride. A bit of searching was required as hint put us off track a little.

24-Feb-13
#191 Great trail to ride with the family. TFTC

06-Feb-13
Found with JimmyNZ on a 20 km run to the tunnel and back. Pretty easy find, once the instructions were correctly relayed to me Wink TFTC!

06-Feb-13
Found it eventually. GPS lead Greenslime and i a little off track, didn't realise it was that close till Greenslime found it. I wonder if that hole beside the shaft goes all the way down as well?

08-Jan-13
Found on a short cycle of the trail this afternoon. We tried to find this one a couple of years or so ago with no luck. I do not remember that massive hole being there - a bit disconcerting! We sent the youngest Paua Ranger through the bushes and directed him from a safe distance... found in seconds! Cache is very damp inside and some of the goodies are going rusty. TFTC!

05-Jan-13
Beautiful day. Found while completing the rail trail for Oxfam Trailwalker Training. TFTC

26-Dec-12
Took a while to find, even with the hint, a very well hidden cache. Spent ages looking in the wrong direction at first. Log book pages are just a little damp, but the container and bag seem to be sealed OK, probably just moisture absorbed when being written in while it is raining. TNLN, TFTC.

09-Dec-12
Find #1391. Got up real early to cycle the Incline. Left the car at Birchville and cycled up the river trail, through to Maymorn, Tunnel Gully, Station Drive, Kaitoke Loop and arrived at the Incline carpark at 0745 - only one car present. Enjoyed a spectacularly quiet ride with a tail wind, reaching the Summit by 0900 including all the caches. Have not explored this route for many years - just after the pine forest was stripped out. Great to see the regrowth of both new pines and native bush. Enjoyed the ride through the tunnel, reminiscent of the Otago Central Rail Trail which also has curved tunnels. Was a bit put off by the gaping sink hole but determined the cache was on the other side so bashed through the bush. Easily spotted after that. Signed the log, took a photo and on my way. TFTC.

08-Dec-12
Took quite a while, but wasn't that hard to find- we must have been blind! TFTC

08-Dec-12
On a Tawa Scouts bike ride, took a bit of searching as GPS had me elsewhere, used the hint and soon found cache in logical place. Tipped some water out of container, but log dry in its bag. One more cache and several Kms before we caught up with the scouts again. SL TFTC.

29-Sep-12
Nearly derailed by the large hole near GZ ... Thankfully, StreetWalkerNZ and JardislikeTardis nimbly leapt across to search while the rest of us contemplated the current Rimutaka tunnel underneath and wished for a train to rumble through it.

29-Sep-12
A nice easy stroll to this one in the light drizzle. So neat to think that the tunnel for the modern train line was underneath us. Would have been cool to hear a train go by. Streetwalker grabbed this one for us while on a walk up the trail with Streetwalker, Kjwx, Jardisliketardis, Troodles and Renard & co.

29-Sep-12
Had a little bit of drizzle to cope with on our walk but not enough to dampen our spirits. Interesting that here we were above the new railway, with the ventilation shaft near the cache.
A great gaping hole made access to the GZ a bit more of a challenge - we let StreetWalker do the honours!
TFTC.

29-Sep-12
#4136. I ventured across the hole, but had no luck (my GPSr seemed to want to take me down the bank). Eventually, a jardisliketardis materialised nearby and spotted the cache immediately (she had found it on an earlier visit). Cache was half full of water, but despite that the log book was in reasonable shape). Maybe the -gonefishing- coords would have got me closer. TFTC.
